Norma Jean Ramsey

FAIRLEA — Norma Jean Ramsey, 49, passed away Sunday evening, Oct. 30, 2005.

Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday at Longanacre Funeral Home Chapel, Fairlea. Friends may call 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Suzann Hamrick Smith

OAK HILL — Suzann Hamrick Smith, 57, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at her home.

Born Nov. 23, 1947, at Powellton Hollow in Montgomery, she was the daughter of the late Opie and Hazel Hartwell Hamrick.

Mrs. Smith was a disabled dietitian for Beckley ARH.

She was a member of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Donnie Ray, Jerry Lawrence and Jackie Lee Hamrick.

Survivors include her husband, Gene A. Smith; a son, Anthony John Smith of Oak Hill; a brother, Jimmy Hamrick of Philadelphia, Pa.; a sister, Gloria Thomas of Oak Hill; a granddaughter, Carley Beth Smith of Ansted; and two step grandchildren, Brandon and Cassy Moorehead of Ansted.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Ronnie Persinger and the Rev. Jimmy Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ruby Virginia Spencer

RICHWOOD — Ruby Virginia Spencer, 87, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at the residence of her sister, Myrtle Rogers of Richwood, after a short illness.

Mrs. Spencer was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Ray Rogers of Richwood; a sister-in-law, Billie Hinkle of Richwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with the Rev. Chanon Mullens officiating. Burial will follow in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin.

Friends may call noon until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Rev. Donald M. Stover Sr.

HOTCHKISS — The Rev. Donald M. Stover Sr., 75, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Before moving to Hotchkiss, he and his wife raised their family in Beechwood.

He was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Modock. He was an ordained minister for 25 years and pastor of Stotesbury Community Church for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Roscoe and Annice Stover; a daughter, Kimberly Sue; two brothers, James and Clarence; and a brother-in-law, Matthew Burnette.

Left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Helen Gray Stover; and six children and their spouses, Kenny Ray Stover, Brenda Elizabeth Stover, Sharon Kay and Charles Keaton, Donna and Robert Ward Jr., Becky and Tommy Halsey, and D.J. and Sheri Stover. Other survivors include a brother, Herbert Stover and wife, Anne, of Maryland; and sisters, Reo Burnette of Princeton, Mary Ann Clisso and Helen Hylton of Florida.

He was a proud grandfather to eight grandsons, Kenny Stover II, Lloyd Wolfe III, John Keaton, Daniel Stover, Kenton Stover, Robert Lee Ward III, Mark Ward and T.J. Halsey. He was a proud grandfather of four granddaughters, Jenny Keaton McGhee, Robyn Wolfe Wilson, Amber Wolfe and Emily Halsey. He was a wonderful great-grandfather to Caitlin Fisher and Seth Wolfe, David Ray Wilson, Bryant and Brandyn McGhee, Hunter and Faith Renee Keaton, Kenny Stover III, Shaeley Stover, Jacob Stover and Adrianna Stover. Honorary grandchildren who brightened his life were Megan Tolliver, Brad Green and Jake Justice.

Don was loved dearly by family and friends. His love for the Lord and studying God’s Word was second to none. He was an accomplished piano player, retired coal miner and a history buff.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Pastor Thomas Anderson of Hotchkiss Missionary Baptist Church will be officiating. His granddaughter, Jenny, will provide the music.

Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be Lloyd Wolfe III, David Wilson, John Keaton, Andy McGhee, Kenton Stover, Robert Ward III, Mark Ward and Butch Joynes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Timmy Cook, John McKinney, Hut Burnette and Gary Wright.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley is serving the family.

Lancy H. Windon

Lancy H. Windon, 74, of Sophia-Soak Creek, went with the angels to heaven to be with Jesus Christ our Savior on Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital following a short illness.

He was born April 13, 1931, at Sullivan, and was the son of the late Ollie C. and Ollie M. Windon.

Mr. Windon spent his childhood in Sullivan and attended the old Stoco High School. He was a proud retired coal miner and member of the UMWA District 17. He spent 26 years at Slab Fork Coal Co. where he loved running his Mainline motor.

He was of the Baptist faith, and greatly enjoyed worshiping at Bethel Baptist Church and Tilden Community Church.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who lived every minute of his life to the fullest. He enjoyed the great outdoors and loved to nature watch. In his younger years he was an avid coon hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Junior, Clifton, Raven and Paul; a sister, Norma-Lee Hart; and his father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Snowden Williams.

Those left to cherish his loving memory include his loving wife of 29 years, Iva “Susie” Windon; a son, Darian Permelia Windon at home; a daughter, Crystal Messenger and husband, Harold, of Lester; two grandsons, Harold “Turkey” and Chase Messenger of Lester; two sisters, Gaynel Ratcliff of Sophia and Lazone Bolen of Baltimore, Md.; a special cousin, Janet “Sissy” Wilson and husband, Richard, their children, Richard and Donna, and grandchildren, Richard, Brianna and Katlyn, all of Philadelphia, Pa.

He is also survived by a large extended family including seven sisters-in-law, Barbara Condie, Wilma Williams, Betty Windon, Loretta Bragg and husband, James, Judith Dillon and husband, Randy, Peggy Tolley and husband, Charles, and Teresa Richmond and husband, Johnny; four brothers-in-laws, Steven Williams, Snowden “Bug” Williams Jr., Paul Williams and wife, Kathern, and Larry Williams and wife, Roxy, and numerous nieces and nephews. With a special thanks and love to a dear sister-in-law, Barbara Condie, and a special niece, Vanessa Harper.

Service will be 3 p.m. today at Melton Mortuary, Harper Road, Beckley, with the Rev. David Cook and Rev. Billy Calhoun officiating, with a special reading by Fontaine Veid. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends gathered 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Randy Dillon, Johnny Richmond, Brian Permelia, Jimmy Harper, Danny Harper, and a quite loved one, with honorary pallbearers Kenneth Cunningham and Charles Tolley.

Norma June Richards Allen

Norma June Richards Allen, 77, born and reared in Hinton, died at her daughter’s home in Floyd, Va., on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, following a stroke and related long-term illnesses. Norma passed peacefully while surrounded by her loving family.

After graduating from Hinton High School, Norma was employed by Hinton Telephone Co. She was later voted Summers County magistrate, and was employed at Summers County Hospital.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Kirby Nathan Lane and Bertha Jane Hogan Lane of Hinton; her first husband, Vernon Wesley Richards; and two brothers-in-law, Charles “Buster” Cooper of Nimitz and Merrill Boland of Jumping Branch.

Norma is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jacob Allen of Hinton; and her three sisters, Garnet Cooper and Rowena and her husband, Jim Tassos, all of Nimitz, and Shirley Boland of Jumping Branch. She has one daughter, Dreama Richards Meadows of Floyd, and one son, Ronald Wayne Richards of Charleston, and four grandchildren, William Henry Treadwell IV, Hunter Lane Tredwell, Morgan Crystal Richards and Logan Blake Meadows.

Vesta Faye Bailey

PRINCETON — Vesta Faye Bailey, 75, of 180 Ideal Circle, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 25, 2005, at the home of her daughter, Linda Melvin on Hinton Road, Athens.

Born March 16, 1930, at Hiawatha, she was the daughter of the late Wint and Lula Shrewsbury McKinney.

Faye was educated in Mercer County, having received her Bachelor’s degree in education from Concord College in Athens and her Master’s degree in Education from WVCOG, which is now Marshall University.

She had taught English in Mercer County schools and served as librarian, retiring from Spanishburg High School in 1991 with 24 years of service. Faye was a member of the Mercer County Retired Teachers Association.

Faye was a faithful Christian, having been a member of Princeton First Church of the Nazarene, Oakvale Road, Princeton. She had served as church treasurer for 14 years, was the coach for the teen Bible quizzing team and served on the Church Board in many different capacities. She was a volunteer for Princeton Community Hospital, a member of the WVARSC, serving as vice president, and had for many years, and a volunteer since 1968 at the Mercer County Fair.

Mrs. Bailey loved to cross stitch and had collected turkey figures for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Randall A. Bailey.

Survivors include her loving children, Linda and W.B. Melvin of Athens, with whom she made her home, R.D. and Sharon Bailey of Goodview, Va., Tom and Teigh Bailey of Kinston, N.C., and Randy and Jan Bailey of Princeton; a sister, Norma and Jim Lesler of South Hill, Va.; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and special friend, Tottie Schulz

At 1 p.m. Friday, we will have a Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Bailey from Burns Wornal Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton, with Pastors Jeff Beckett and Ed Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Butler cemetery at Hilltop, near Pettry.

Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Her grandchildren will service as pallbearers.

The Bailey family is being served by Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center, Princeton.

Lovernia Coleman

Lovernia Coleman, 90, of 128 Old Turnpike Road, Beckley, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital following an extended illness.

Jimmie Dale Graham

RAVENCLIFF – Jimmie Dale Graham, departed this life Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at the age of 49 years, five months and 23 days.

Born May 1, 1956, at Pineville, he was the son of the late Tidon and Nancy Bailey Graham.

Jimmie enjoyed fishing and being with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his companion, Gevondelon Graham of Ravencliff; two sons, Billy Ray Graham of Ravencliff and Ricky Dale Graham of Michigan; three daughters, Courtney Graham of Ravencliff, Tina Graham of Delaware and Shawna Graham of Delaware; a brother, Stanley Graham of Mill Creek; and a sister, Jane Kinser and her husband, Charles, of Turkey Creek.

A celebration of Jimmie’s life will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mill Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Rondell Tilley officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell cemetery, Mill Creek.

The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. today at the church.

Casketbearers will be family and friends.

Services are entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Robert E. Graham

LEWISBURG — Robert E. Graham, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, in Rainelle.

Born Dec. 1, 1917, in Clarksburg, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Elva Grace Jones Graham Sr.

Bob had worked with the Bankers Life and Casualty Co. and was a World War II Army veteran where he proudly served in both the European Theatre and African Campaign. He held membership in the VFW, American Legion and Elks Club in Clarksburg, where he had lived for many years. Upon moving to Lewisburg, he was a long-term member of First Baptist Church of Fairlea.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lila Sackers, and a brother, Edward C. Graham.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Olive L. Underwood Graham; three daughters, Leigh Hogan of Denver, Colo., Susan Bussey of Oxford Share, England, and Bobbi Graham-Ward of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Emma Louise Limer; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Fairlea, with the Rev. Kevin Prevett officiating. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. at Beaver Creek cemetery, Watago Road near Huntersville.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg.

Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
