James Lee Miller

James Lee Miller of Stover went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness. He was 79 years of age.

Born Nov. 27, 1927, at Stover, he was the youngest of 10 children born to the late Burrell and Anna Laura Rorrer Miller.

James made his home with his oldest sister, Elsie Sauls Alderman, for many years, until her passing in April 2006. He then took residence at Heartland of Beckley. A lifelong residence of Stover, he never married, but enjoyed life to the fullest.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, Lomer, Chester, Don and Warren Miller; sisters, Genevieve McMillion and Ruth Linesberry; a half brother, Arnett Miller; and three half sisters, Opal Bradford, Mathel O’Dell and Ocie Massey.

Left to cherish his memory are two remaining sisters, Bessie Husner of Lyons, N.Y., and Esta Pettry of St. Albans; along with several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Revs. Wayne Peters and Dean Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Miller cemetery, Rock Creek.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary and one hour before service Sunday.

Nephews Jimmy Linesberry, Shannon Linville, Raymond Sauls, Johnny Dillon, David Sauls and Tommy Alford will serve as pallbearers.

Charles A. Mowery

TIOGA — Charles A. Mowery, 72, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, Craigsville. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Lloyd D. Pierson

WHITESVILLE — Lloyd D. Pierson died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007.

Mr. Pierson’s request was to be cremated.

The service will be at a later day.

Pauline K. Cook Rankin

PETERSTOWN — Pauline K. Cook Rankin, 77 of Peterstown, formerly of Kopperston, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at her home in Peterstown.

Born Feb. 12, 1929, at Rich Creek, Va., she was the daughter of the late Grover G. and Nora Gearheart Ganoe.

She was a former employee of the Wyoming County Board of Education, where she was employed as a cook for Kopperston Grade School. She attended the Toneda Missionary Baptist Church, Kopperston, and Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vannie H. Cook; her second husband, William F. Rankin; three sisters, Louise Stables, Helen Baxter and Betty Ferguson; and six brothers; Rhenard, Harold, Sherman, Finley, Lindy and Bobby Ganoe.

Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Drake and husband, Bill, of Oceana; two sons, retired U.S. Air Force Col. Michael Cook and wife, Ernestine, of Bellevue, Neb., and Thomas Cook of Smithfield, Va.; two stepsons, Donald Rankin and wife, Vickie, of Charlotte, N.C., and James Edward Rankin and wife, Carol, of Verona, Va.; a brother, Garfield Ganoe, of Peterstown; a sister, Marie Link of Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren, Thomas G. Cook Jr., Amanda K. Drake Joyce, Linda C. Cook and Michael W.J. Cook.; a great-grandaughter, Brittney Cook; five step-grandchildren, Chris, David and Mary Beth Rankin, Eric Rankin and Jenna Stedem; and six step great-grandchildren, Hanna Rankin, Taylor Stedem, Wesley Stedem, Samantha Rankin, Benjamin Rankin and Alex Rankin.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

David, Randy and Gary Fields, Thomas Joyce, William Ferguson and Michael Cook will serve as pallbearers. Herbert McDonald and David Weyer will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice Care staff, caregivers Nancy Rules, Marie Link and Robin Weyer.

Bishop Felix William Robinson

Bishop Felix William Robinson, 101, of 721 F St., Beckley, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, at his home following an extended illness.

Born April 1, 1905, in Speedwell, Va., he was the son of the late Brown Robinson and Francis Montgomery Robinson.

Bishop Robinson was a retired coal miner, being a member of the United Mine Workers.

He was a member of Glorious Church of God In Christ, and pastored churches in Sun, Mount Hope and Beckley.

He was preceded in death by his stepson, Elder James Turner; and brothers and sisters, James and Abraham Robinson, Janie Nichols, Neely Kwyole and Mary Robinson.

Survivors include his wife, Esther Martin Robinson; two sons, Clifton Felix (Joyce) of Martinsville, Va., and David Eugene (Debbie) of Beckley; five daughters, Annette Sanders, Barbara R. Coleman (William), Delores Stewart (Ernest), Rhona Schofield and Olinda Smith (Wilbert), all of Beckley; a brother, John B. Robinson of Huntington; a sister, Clara Spiller of Huntington; 24 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family members and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, with Bishop John H. Grant officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service Sunday at the church.

Dink Anderson

CLIFTON FORGE, Va. — Mr. Elmer Milton “Dink” Anderson, 64, of 221 W. Ridgeway St., died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor, Va.

Born on Feb. 3, 1943, in Hinton, he was a son of the late Elmer Samuel Anderson and Anna Josephine Bond Anderson. He was a retired railroad engineer from the CSX Transportation where he had 37 years of service. He served our country in the U.S. Army for 18 years. He was a former member of the West Virginia National Guard, where he retired as a staff sergeant. He was also a member of Hinton Masonic Lodge No. 62 AF and AM, the Hinton Jaycees and UTU Engineers’ Union, was past president of the Hinton Little League, and was an avid hunter.

He is survived by a daughter, Susie Crowder and husband, Darrell, of Eagle Rock, Va.; four sons, Shawn Anderson of Scott Depot, Donald Cubbage and wife, Rebecca, of Rileyville, Va., Jerry Cubbage and wife, Lena, of Shenandoah, Va., and Michael Cubbage and wife, Jane, of Stanley, Va.; five grandchildren, Madelyn Anderson, April Alger, Deborah Cubbage, Pam-ela Cubbage and Anthony Shull; a sister, Dreama Clemmer and husband, Gerald, of Stuarts Draft, Va.; a brother, William “Billy” Anderson of Hinton; and a former wife, Joyce Anderson of Hinton.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Paxton Cubbage Anderson.

Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, at the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. Louis Dodd and Pastor Robert Merritt officiating. Interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.

The family will receive 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John A. Ball

John A. Ball, 79, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, following a long illness.

Clate Brackman

COVINGTON, Va. — Clate Wildon Brackman, 91, of 2210 Dressler Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor, Va.

He was born March 10, 1915, in Greenbrier County, a son of George W. and Leola May Brackman.

Mr. Brackman served with the United States Army during World War II. He retired in 1981 as a pipefitter from Westvaco Corp. after 36 years of service. He was a member of First Christian Church and attended Dunlap Christian Church. He served as church treasurer at First Christian Church and was a former Sunday school teacher at both First Christian as well as Dunlap Christian Church. He was a member of the American Heart Association and Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Brackman was an avid fan of both the Covington Cougars and the Washington Redskins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenna Hum-phries Brackman, in 1986; a son, Emory W. Brachman, in 1996; three sisters, Flossie Brackman, Edith Wilmer and Neva Helmintoller; and two brothers, Franklin Brackman and Quillie Brackman.

Surviving are his son, Jim Brackman and his wife, Terry, of Covington; a granddaughter, Kelly Shook and her husband, R.D., of Roanoke, Va.; two grandsons, Stephen Brackman and his wife, Natalie, of Sevierville, Tenn., and Jonathan Brackman of Covington; a great-grandson, Andrew Brackman of Sevierville; a sister, Bertha Duncan and her husband, Roy, of Winchester, Va.; a special friend, Mildred Fertig of White Sulphur Springs, and Joy Weeks of Covington.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Arritt Funeral Home Chapel, Covington, with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.B. Broughman. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.

Friends may pay their respects any time at the funeral home. The family will receive their friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of Jim and Terry Brackman at 104 Sherry May.

Memorial donations in Mr. Brackman’s name may be made to the American Heart Association, in care of Joy Weeks, 2212 Dressler Drive, Covington, VA 24426.

Brenda Gail Lester Brown

CLEAR FORK — Brenda Gail Lester Brown, 55, of Clear Fork, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Princeton Community Hospital.

Brenda was born July 4, 1951, at Pineville, the daughter of the late Luther James Lester and Ruby Gail Adams Lester of Brenton on Baileysville Road. She was a member of Clear Fork Independent Church of God, a former Girl Scout troop leader and a former LPN at the Beckley Veterans Administration Medical Center. Her maternal grandparents, Hubert and Nellie Adams, also preceded her in death.

Survivors also include her loving husband, Tommy Brown; a daughter, Catherine Gail Sizemore and husband, Kenny, of Crouches Farm; a son, James Ray Brown and wife, Angie, of Beckley; a brother, Charles Luther “Chuck” Lester and wife, Cindy Gail, of Wyoming; two grandchildren, Tyler Brady Sizemore and Collin Garet Brown; her little dog, Buttons Brown, whom she loved very much; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Clear Fork Independent Church of God with the Rev. Hannibal Blankenship Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Lester Family cemetery, Clear Fork.

Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service at the church.

The family is being served by Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco.

Treely A. ‘Tom’ Burchette

PINEVILLE — Treely A. “Tom” Burchette, 74, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at his residence following a short illness.

Born Sept. 12, 1932, at Davy, he was the son of the late Treely and Lucinda Bailey Burchette.

Mr. Burchette worked as an engineer for Dominion Gas Co. for 38 years. After retiring, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and, most of all, ball games of any kind. He was a Dallas Cowboy fan. He served in the U.S. armed forces as a corporal during the Korean Conflict.

Left to cherish his memory are three brothers, James Burchette and his wife, Miriam, of Pineville, Edward Burchette and his wife, Jill, of Baileysville and Eugene Burchette of Pineville; two sisters, Juanita Growe of Pineville and Joyce Miller of Pineville; nine nieces and nephews; 10 great-nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

He was a person who was not easy to forget and very dear to all who knew him.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Donald “Doc” Adkins officiating. Entombment will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny. Military rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Mr. Burchette’s name to the American Diabetes Association, 1221-A Ohio Ave., P.O. Box 1115, Dunbar, W.Va. 25064.

Granville Charles ‘Chuck’ Carr

RAINELLE — Granville Charles “Chuck” Carr, 77, of Rainelle, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at the home of his daughter.

Born May 7, 1929, in Rainelle, he was the son of William A. Carr and Ella Ann Lambert Carr.

Chuck enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was a member of the VFW, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, DAV and the Moose Club, all in Rainelle.

He was a retired barber and had served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jean Wade, and a brother, Bobby Carr.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rosalie K. Carr, and a daughter, Margaret Church, both of Rainelle, and a brother, Billy Carr of Spring Dale.

Memorial service will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, at the VFW, Main Street, Rain-elle. Friends may gather with the family during this time.
