David Mack Williams
HAZARD, Ky. — David Mack Williams, 52, formerly of Quinwood, passed away suddenly at his home recently in Hazard, Ky.
Born May 25, 1954, he was the son of the late Mack and Hazel Williams.
David had a B.S. degree from West Virginia Tech in computer science, and got his Master’s from Marshall University in electrical engineering.
Survivors include two sisters, Brenda Williams of Rainelle and Shirley Viers and husband, David, of McRoss.
There will be no service at this time. The body has been cremated. The family wishes to have a small gathering of friends and family at a later date.
Anyone who worked with Dave in West Virginia and/or Kentucky should notify Shirley Viers (number in phone book) as to their whereabouts so she can keep in touch with them and let them know when the memorial service will be.

Edith Ellen Gabbert
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Edith Ellen Gabbert, 85, died Wednesday morning, April 12, 2006, at the White Sulphur Springs Family Care Center after an extended illness.
Born June 12, 1920, at White Sulphur Springs, she was the daughter of the late Charley and Blanch Mae Hoke Counts.
Mrs. Gabbert was a homemaker and attended Victory Temple Church at Rupert.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Marshall Gabbert, on March 17, 1989; a grandson, Eric Gabbert; and a daughter-in-law, Judith Ann Gabbert.
Survivors include three daughters, Alice M. Chieffo of White Sulphur Springs, Connie M. Dowdy of Hopewell, Va., and Beverly K. Wood of Louisa, Va.; five sons, Marshall R. Gabbert and Eric K. Gabbert, both of Roanoke, Va., James F. Gabbert of Colonial Heights, Va., Larry W. Gabbert of Dawson and Ernest L. Gabbert of Rupert; 26 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Victory Temple, Rupert, with Brother James Taylor and Brother Gary Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Alleghany Memorial Gardens, Low Moor, Va.
The family will receive their friends 7 to 9 p.m. today at Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, and the body will be taken to the church one hour before service Saturday.

Helen Marjorie Gunnoe
DANESE — Helen Marjorie Gunnoe, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 11, 2006, surrounded by family.
Born Aug. 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James A. Shuck and Laudie Ewing Shuck.
Mrs. Gunnoe was preceded in death by her husband, Lealand Edward; her children, infant Larry Edward, Barbara Moorman and Berneice Queen; grandchildren, infant Gregory Martin, Steven Martin and Darlene Gunnoe; special son-in-law, Gary Martin; three brothers and two sisters. Oh, what a happy reunion they are having.
Those left to cherish her precious memory are a son, Billy and wife, Nancy, of Danese; daughters, Betty Allen and husband, Jim, of Grandview, Bonnie Martin of Summersville, Beverly Sue Polen and fiancé, Jim Lindsey, of Parrish, Fla., and Bonita Shinault and fiancé, Harold Jones, of Hillsville, Va.; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Hanshew of Sandstone and Madeline Goins Harkelroad of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Mama was a very precious mother and friend to anyone who knew her. She was a special God-fearing lady. If you asked her to pray about something, you knew it would be done. She let us know, almost daily, that she was ready to go to heaven.
God saw she was getting tired and the cure was not to be. He put his loving arms around her and whispered “Come with me.” A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove he only takes the best.
It will be very hard to do without you, Mom, but we know God knows best. As we’ve expressed many times, thanks for being a special mother. Heaven will never welcome a sweeter Mama.
We wish to express special thanks to special caregivers, Linda, Gaye and Diane.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Chris Hanshew officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.

David Roland Allen
David Roland Allen, 67, of Scarbro, died 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006, at VA Hospital in Beckley following a short illness.
Born Aug. 15, 1937, at Marfrance, he was the son of the late Elwood Allen and Elsie Allen.
Mr. Allen was a retired U.S. Navy veteran and an employee of Alloy Metal. He was of the Baptist faith.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leoda Finney Allen; three brothers, Leroy, James and Reed Allen; six sisters, Inez Washington, Alice Walton, Carolyn Allen, Marie Staples, Mary Allen and Rita Allen.
Survivors include children, Gloria Gant and husband, Joel, of Dayton, Ohio, Vernice Cosby and husband, Ernest, of Dayton, Stephanie Connor and husband, Eddie, of Dayton, and Deanna Allen of Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Robert Allen and his wife, Frances, of Dayton, Ohio; 10 loving grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church at Carlisle with the Revs. Charles Brown and David Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour before the service Thursday at the church.

SIDNEY, Ky. — June Lee Arthur, 55, a native of Beckley, died May 7, 2006, at her home.
Born Oct. 3, 1950, at Beckley, she was the daughter of the late James E. “Tom” Arthur and Virginia Lee Shelton Arthur.
Mrs. Arthur was in retail sales and a member of Sharondale Church of Christ.
Survivors include her brother, James E. Arthur Jr. and wife, Teresa L., of Beaver; nephews, James E. Arthur III and wife, Amy, of Morgantown, and Matthew E. Arthur of Morgantown; close friends, Candy Taylor of McVeigh, Ky., Tina DeGeorge of Pikeville, Ky., and Mary Given of Hatfield, Ky. and many other friends and her church family.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky., with Minister Bob Werntz officiating. Committal service will be 4 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Chapel of Peace, Beckley.
Pallbearers will be James E. and Matthew E. Arthur and men of the Sharondale Church of Christ.

Ernest Kyle Burgess
Ernest Kyle Burgess, 49, of Beckley, formerly of Kernersville, N.C., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 7, 2006, after a short illness.
Born Jan. 4, 1957, at Beckley, he was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Tex and Stella Mae Martin Burgess.
Mr. Burgess was employed for ten years at Sara Lee Bakery in Kernersville, N.C.
Ernie enjoyed the outdoors, karate and walking his German Shepherd companion, Cheyene.
Survivors include his sisters, Emma Jean Bennett of Piney View, Mary Ames and husband, John Paul, of Piney View, Gloria Tanner and husband, John, of Grandview, and Cora Mae Lambert of Beckley; a brother, Jerry Burgess and wife, Connie, of Daniels; nine loyal nephews and two nieces; five great- nieces and 13 great-nephews.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Teel Apostolic Church of Jesus, 219 Front St., Beckley, with Pastor Gary Blankenship officiating.

Ronald Glen Dickens
Ronald Glen Dickens, 62, formerly of Alpoca, died Saturday, May 6, 2006, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, N.C., following a long illness.
Born Oct. 23, 1943, at Sundial, he was the son of Leona Barefield Dickens of Valdese, N.C., and the late Clarence Dickens.
Mr. Dickens was formerly a lifelong resident of Alpoca, and had been a resident of Valdese, N.C., for the past two years. He was a former truck driver in the coalfields for many years.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Leona Barefield Dickens of Valdese, N.C.; two sons, Ronald Glen Dickens Jr. of Coal City, and Jerry Wayne Dickens of Mullens; three grandsons, Joshua, Brian and Michael; two brothers, Randall and Clarence Lee Dickens, both of Beckley, and seven sisters, Melba Wilson of Daniels, Carol Maltba of Lenoir, N.C., Tena Sizemore of Morganton, N.C., Tammy Isom of Hickory, N.C., Rose Adams, Rita Shuffler and Donna Bowling, all of Valdese, N.C.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Rev. Carl Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Allie Rebecca Fitzpatrick
Allie Rebecca Fitzpatrick, age 97, of Glenn Ave., Beckley, died Sunday, May 7, 2006, at the Heartland of Beckley Nursing Home following a long illness.
Born at Covington, Va., on March 13, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Tingler and Bell McCullough Tingler
Mrs. Fitzpatrick was a homemaker, and a member of the Beckley Regular Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Citizens Organization of the church. She had made Layland her home for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William O. Fitzpatrick, and by four brothers.
Survivors include sons, Marvin Fitzpatrick and wife, June, of Maplewood, and Phillip “Fitzy” Fitzpatrick and wife, Kay, of South Charleston; a daughter, Julia Walls, and husband, Cameron, of Beckley, with whom she had made her home for 43 years; a brother, James Tingler of Covington, Va.; a sister, Elizabeth Lane of Clifton Forge, Va.; five grandchildren, Daniel, Rebecca and Kathy Fitzpatrick, Susan Walls and Pamela Neale; five great-grandchildren, Sarah Wood, Eric Fitzpatrick, Jennifer, David, and Michael Neale; and a good friend, Phyllis Herbert of Beckley.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with Pastor Jason Naff officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
