OAK HILL — Carolyn Joan Rouse Martin, 69, died Monday, May 8, 2006, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division.
Born Sept. 16, 1936, in Monongahela, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George Andrew and Alma Marie Tucker Rouse.
Mrs. Martin was a homemaker.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ, Monongahela.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Lee Martin.
Survivors include her husband, Idris James Martin; two sons, Douglas Martin and Steven Martin, both of Oak Hill; and a brother, George Andrew Rouse of Ridgeway, Pa.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Evangelist Robert D. Nicklow officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.
Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Charley Patton, Jr.
WELCH-PINEVILLE ROAD — Charley Patton, 70, of Welch-Pineville Road, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at his home following a long illness of lung cancer.
Mr. Patton was born July 2, 1935 at Panther, a son of the late Charlie Patton Sr. and the late Lucy Blankenship Patton. He was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church of Iaeger. He had retired from Zenith Electronics in Melrose Park, Ill., after 26 years of loyal service.
In addition to his parents, a son, Lester Patton, a grandson, Charles Austin, and a special sister-in-law, Callie Patton, preceded him in death.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 47 years, Chloe Patton; a son, Harold “Harry” Patton of Statesville, N.C.; two daughters, Vickie Patton of Brighton, Iowa, and Lisa Spratte of Chandler, Texas; four brothers, D.L. Patton of Iaeger, James Patton and wife, Juanita, of Clayton, Mich., Nute Patton and wife, Betty, of Bradley, Ill., and Jack Patton and wife, Helen, of Princeton; and a sister, Princess Murphy and husband, Billy Ray, of Pulaski, Va. Other hearts that grieve are those of his eight grandchildren, Tammy Patton Morrison of Trinity, N.C., Renee Huddleston and husband, Tony, of Cookeville, Tenn., Kristal Brown and husband, Billy, of Beckley, Eric Patton and Mickie Patton of Brighton, Iowa, James Burton Jr., Sarah Burton and Ezra Burton of Chandler, Texas. Also, four great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Marie Patton, Jerrica Patton, Alexus Ackerson and Anthony Brown, mourn the loss of their “papa.”
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, at the chapel of Fanning Funeral Home, Iaeger, with the Rev. Daniel Dean officiating. Burial will follow in Iaeger Memorial cemetery, Roderfield. Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.

Earl ‘Ram’ Rodes
OAK HILL — Earl “Ram” Rodes, 86, died Monday, May 8, 2006, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Beckley.
Born Oct. 30, 1919, at Gatewood, he was the son of the late Ira and Lula McClung Rodes.
Mr. Rodes was the retired owner of Rodes Wrecking and also retired from Merchants and Miners National Bank in Oak Hill.
He was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater.
Ram was a member of Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 AF and AM, Sewell Chapter No. 24, RAM, Mount Hope Commandery No. 22 K.T. and the Beni Kedem Temple AAONMS.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl Hall Rodes, and his second wife, Pat Wheeler Rodes.
Survivors include a son, Tom Rodes and wife, Judy, of Fayetteville; four stepsons, Tom Wheeler of Germany, David Wheeler and Steve Wheeler, both of Fayetteville, and John Wheeler of Lochgelly; two stepdaughters, Sandy Bias of Oak Hill and Tammy Brown of Lochgelly; a brother, Pete Rodes of Gatewood; two sisters, Madora Ballard of Gauley Bridge and Tasty Etchinson of Galion, Ohio; a granddaughter, Leigh Ann Wolfe and husband, Shawn, of Oak Hill; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Seth Wolfe and Shawna Wolfe of Oak Hill; and nine stepgrandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. David White officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with military graveside rites by VFW Post No. 3110 of Oak Hill.

Bertha Lee Russell, 54, of 300 Saunders Ave., Beckley, died Sunday, May 7, 2006, at the home of her sister following a long illness.
Born July 7, 1951, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Emmitt Bradley and Evelyn Irene Terry Douglas.
Mrs. Russell was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, James W. Mills and Mary V. Mills; paternal grandmother, Bertha Bradley; and a nephew, Stephen Jordan.
Survivors include two sons, Berkley Robinson of Roanoke, Va., and James Robinson of Weston; two brothers, the Rev. James (Darlene) Bradley of Kingsville, Texas, and Jerome (Diane) Bradley of Beckley; three sisters, Mary S. Jordan (David Rey-nolds) of Beckley, Marketta (Frank) Jensen of Menasha, Wis., and Hattie Lewis of Roanoke; an aunt, Ethel (Harry) Mosley of Williamstown, N.J.; special friend, Andrew Reynolds; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

RICH CREEK, Va. — Earl James “Pug” Wills, 80, formerly of Bozoo, died Sunday, May 7, 2006, at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital, Pearisburg, Va.
He was born Aug. 21, 1925, at Bozoo, W.Va., and was the son of the late George Kelly and Martha Caperton Wills.
Mr. Wills was a farmer and a disabled World War II U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Allen Edward Wills, Robert Lee Wills, Hunter Ernest Wills, Raymond Thomas Wills and Ross Emerson Wills.
Surviving are a special niece that was his caregiver and was like a daughter, with whom he made his home at Rich Creek, Va., Mary Lou Hager and her husband, Roger, and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, with the Revs. James Hagy and Fred Mooney officiating. Burial will follow in the Peterstown cemetery.

LINDSIDE — Dennis W. Mann, 78, of Assurance Road, Lindside, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Charleston Area Medical Center.
Born Nov. 12, 1927, at Beckley, he was the son of the late Elliott G. and Nina Mann.
Mr. Mann was a retired school bus driver from the Monroe County Board of Education, and worked for Safeway stores in Washington, D.C., for several years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served with the occupational forces in Japan, and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant children; a son, Larry; a daughter, Sharon; four brothers, Herman, Garland, Oral and Ernest Mann; and a sister, Lucy Canterbury.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Clara “Sis” Dalton Mann; a sister, Gladys Rogers of Peterstown; a brother, Derrell Mann of Mora, Minn.; and godchildren, Susan Scheffres, Steve Mazer and Tim Mazer.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with Elder Norvel Mann and Pastor Bob Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Keaton cemetery, Green-ville.
Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.
