Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Burns Wornal Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center, Athens Road, Princeton. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Ruth E. Lawson
Ruth E. Lawson, 80, of Midway, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2005.
Ruth was born July 23, 1925, at McAlpine, the daughter of the late George and Annie Mae Doss.
Ruth was a homemaker and a member of Sophia Church of God.
Other than her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Lawson; four brothers, Raymond Doss, Walter Doss, Eugene Doss and Robert Doss; and two sisters, Bertha Steele and Shirley Cox.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving children, George L. Lawson and wife, Garnet, of Crab Orchard, Mary Williams and husband, David, of Oak Hill, Rita Bolen and husband, Chester, of Coal City and Norma Jean Cochran and husband, Larry, of Cool Ridge; two brothers, George Doss of McAlpine and Douglas Doss of Cedar Bluff, Va.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor F.D. Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Effie Mae McVey
Effie Mae McVey, 85, of Beckley, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at the home of her son in Cross Lanes following a short illness.
Born Feb. 8, 1920, at Woodbay, she was the daughter of the late Boyd Little and Lillian Jarrett Little.
She worked at E.M. Payne Co. for 17 years, George’s for six years and at Rahall’s six years before retiring. She was a member of Beckley Presbyterian Church for 43 years and was supervisor of the nursery most of that time. She was a member of the Calico and Jeans Square Dance Club and Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James McVey; and a sister, Elva Brewster.
Survivors include a son, Melvin McVey and wife, Sheril, of Cross Lanes; grandchildren, Chris Douglas, Craig Preston, Diana Lynn Gillespie and Lisa Marie Booth; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna Stover of Crab Orchard and Ella Booth of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and a brother, Bernard Little of Birmingham, Ala.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Adrian Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Tabor cemetery.
Memorial service will be 8 p.m. today with the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be the Men of Beckley Presbyterian Church.

Eugene E. Nicewonder
Eugene E. Nicewonder, 88, of 106 Daniel St., Beckley, a former resident of Princeton, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at his residence.
Born in Bluefield on June 2, 1917, he was the son of the late Hubert E. and Anna Doyle Nicewonder.
He retired in 1977 as superintendent of the New River Division for Norfolk & Western Railroad after 41 years of service. Eugene was a graduate of Beaver High School in Bluefield and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War ll. He was a longtime resident of Mercer County before moving to Beckley in 2003.
In addition to his parents, a brother, Edward T. Nicewonder, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Geneva Osborne Nicewonder; a son, Robert K. Nicewander of York, Pa., and Melbourne Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Anna Childers and her husband, Harry Childers, of Salem, S.C., Donna Bensey and her husband, Lee Bensey, of Charlottesville, Va., and Rebecca Kirkpatrick and her husband, H.L. Kirkpatrick III, of Beckley; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Frederick H. Nicewonder and his wife, Elsie, of Roanoke, Va., Dennis Nicewonder and his wife, Joanne, of Boca Raton, Fla., and Richard Nicewonder and his wife, Laura, of Redford, Mich.; and two sisters, Lucille Berry of Portage, Ind., and Wilda Martin of Lawrenceburg, Ky.
Private family graveside service will be conducted at Monte Vista Park cemetery, Green Valley, with the Rev. Daniel Johnson officiating.
His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers, Dean Nicewander, Daryl Nicewander, Jeffrey Williams, Michael Williams, John Kirkpatrick, Robert Kirkpatrick and Amanda Bensey.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Paul Oar and his staff, the nursing staff of Raleigh General Hospital and Hospice of Southern West Virginia for their support and care during our time of need.

Shelby was born Feb. 14, 1951, in Wyoming County, the daughter of Geraldine Hawkins Hayworth of Grandview, and the late Robert Hayworth.
Shelby loved doing crafts and shopping. She was listed in the Who’s Who of American Business Leaders. Shelby was the owner and operator of Shelby’s Tax Solutions and Bookkeeping in Glen Daniel for 12 years. She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Other than her father, Shelby was preceded in death by her prior husband, Roy Pritchard; and a sister, Patricia Pritchard.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Dale Smith; her children, Rosetta Smith and husband, Steven, of Charlotte, N.C., and Wayne Pritchard and wife, Tammy, of Beckley; grandchildren, Aaron Smith of Charlotte, Nicklaus Pritchard of Beckley, Emily Pritchard of Beckley and Zachary Pritchard of Beckley; brothers and sisters, Roger McDaniel, Rhobena McDaniel, Bobby Hayworth, Ronnie Hayworth and Jim Hayworth; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Bennie Kenney and the Rev. Steven Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Frank Robert Snuffer
Frank Robert Snuffer, 86, of South Hill Street, Mabscott, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.
Born July 4, 1919, in Bolt, he was the son of the late Lee and Judi Bailey Snuffer.
Frank liv-ed most of his life in Eccles before moving to Mabscott. He was a coal miner for Eastern Associated Coal Corp. and was of the Protestant faith. In his leisure time, he loved to hunt.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ella Marie Honaker Snuffer, who passed away in 1993; a daughter, Norma Lafferty; his brothers, Wilson Snuffer and Walter Snuffer; a sister, Sadie Herron; two half sisters, Ada Batten and Hiadi Cozart; and a half brother, Sherman Snuffer.
Survivors include four children, Shirley Riggsby and her husband, Bob, of Green Bank, Barbara Ploudra of Anchorage, Alaska, Frankie Snuffer and his wife, Zenia, of Glen Morgan and Louise Chambers and her husband, Jim, of Beaver; a brother, Thomas Snuffer of Rainelle; a sister, Laura Wilson of Daniels; special friend, Marie Shreve of LaGrange, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Ruth Thomasson Warren
ALDERSON — Ruth Thomasson Warren, 93, of Alderson, formerly of Charleston, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at her home in Alderson following a short illness.
Born Nov. 1, 1912, at Reedy, she was the daughter of the late Holly B. and Mame Morford Thomasson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stokley L. Warren; a brother, Holly B. Thomasson Jr.; and a sister, Wilma Thomasson Parrish.
Mrs. Warren was a retired sales clerk, having been employed at Alderson’s Store, Alderson, Johnson and Gwinn Hardware Store, Alderson, and the Diamond Department Store, Charleston. She was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Spencer High School. Mrs. Warren was a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, Alderson, where she was a member of the Ladies Circle, and was a member of the Woman’s Club of Alderson.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Warren of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Janice Thomasson Law of Alderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with the Rev. Sam Groves officiating. Burial will follow in Fletcher Addition of Alderson cemetery.

Anna Mae Lovell Adkins
OAK HILL — A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Anna Mae Lovell Adkins, 71, of Oak Hill, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, following a short illness.
Born April 19, 1934, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late J.D. Lovell and Susie Matilda Cranfield Lovell Johnson and stepdaughter of the late Charles Cleve Johnson.
Mrs. Adkins was a homemaker.
Anna was the last of her immediate family. Her husband, Franklin Delano Adkins; and a sister, Laura Teaster, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Frankie Wayne Adkins and companion, Mary Jo Oldaker, of Oak Hill; a daughter, Shelby Jean Adkins Moses and companion, Terry Underwood, of Oak Hill; a special friend, Lee Drake, whom she helped to raise as one of her own; five grandchildren, Nicole, Timothy Jr., Amanda, Dustin Paul and Priscilla; and a stepgrandson, Jermey Clayton. She is also survived by five sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; two nieces, Ruby and Masel of Rose Bud, Ark.; special niece, Syreda Haynes of Arizona; and two nephews, Bobby of Rose Bud, Ark., and Owen of Oregon.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Revs. Bill Menefee, Allen Gallimore and Robert Pauley officiating. Burial will follow in I.O.O.F. cemetery in Oak Hill.
