Ronetta Marie Frye

In Loving Memory Ronetta Marie Frye, 63, of Glen Daniel (Posey Saxon Road Community) died Saturday, November 11th, 2006 at her home after a short illness.

Born January 19th, 1943, in Logan County at Sharples, she was the daughter of the late Garnet Marie Cook Ryan Covey and Ronald Ryan.

Ronetta was a graduate of Trap Hill High School, Class of 1960. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of this community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charles Elmer Frye.

Ronetta was a loving mother of two children and grandmother of four grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Charles W. Frye and his Karen of White Oak; a daughter, Monica Akers and her husband Gaylon of Princeton; four grandchildren; grandsons: Jason Frye age 19, Brandon Frye age 16, Coty Frye age 13, all of White Oak; a granddaughter, Breanna Dillon age 13, of Princeton; a brother, Roger Ryan and his wife Pat of Glen Daniel; two sisters, Loudema Wills and her husband Bob of MacArthur, Darlene Bragg and her husband Paul of Martinsburg; her good friend, William (Bill) Cook. Her nieces and nephews, Jeff and Lisa Ryan; Shaonette Cole, Rodney Trent, Amy Birchfield, Wesley W. Trent, and Heather Bragg.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be: Jason, Brandon, and Coty Frye; Jeff Ryan, Wesley W. Trent, Mike Webb, Tommy Covey and Wesley T. Trent.

Ralph N. Jackson

PRINCE GEORGE, Va. — Ralph N. Jackson, 87, formerly of New Richmond, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at his residence following a long illness.

Erma Leatrice McDaniel

BALLARD — Erma Leatrice McDaniel, age 79, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2006 at Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton. She was the daughter of the late Everette L. and Anna Ruth Mann McDaniel.

Miss McDaniel was a lifelong member of the Greenville United Methodist Church, a 1946 graduate of Greenville High School, attended Beckley College from 1949 to 1950 where she was a member of a college sorority, after course completion she begin working at Beckley College as financial secretary working there for over 40 years.

Survivors include one sister, Ruth Catherine McDaniel Jones of Pence Springs; nieces and nephews, David Willard Jones and wife Cheryl of Pence Springs, WV, Debra Ann Jones Canterbury and husband Paul, Karen Sue Jones Persinger and husband Eric, Peggy Lee Jones Miller and husband Ray, all of Clayton, WV, and Everette R. Via of Cashmere, WV. Great nieces and nephews, Timmy Canterbury, Justin Jeffrey, Larry and Barry Persinger, David Lee and William Jones, Tyler Miller, Amy Canterbury Heck and Shelby Miller. Great-great nieces, Gracie Jones, Kara Via, Chloe Heck, Morgan Lynn Persinger and Hope Cales.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Orchard cemetery, Ballard.

Great nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alvin Vernon Meadows

BOZOO — Alvin Vernon Meadows, 63, passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles W. Reed, Jr.

Charles W. Reed, Jr., age 58, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2006.

Born August 9, 1948 he is the son of Charles and Cynthia Reed.

Charles loved spending time with this family. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors and he also loved trucks and cars. Charles was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church on Barn Rd.

Charles is preceded in death by his mother Cynthia Huffman Reed; grandmothers Nancy Huffman and Mary Reed; grandfathers Eugene Huffman and Sebird Reed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his father, Charles Reed, Sr. of Odd; brother, Darrell Reed of Amigo; sister, Mary Leak and husband Klinton of Pembroke, Ky., and sister, Rita Osborne and husband Rick of Cadiz, KY and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles cousins and friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Williams Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia with Gary Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Reed cemetery.

Friends may gather with the family Thursday from 6 to 9 at Williams Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia.

Gary W. Scarbrough

FAYETTEVILLE — Gary Wayne Scarbrough, 56, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2006 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.

Born on July 23, 1950, at Beckwith, he was the son of the late Wesley Edmond Scarbrough and Margaret Frances Simms Scarbrough.

Mr. Scarbrough served his country in the U.S. Army and he was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a disabled carpenter and construction worker, he enjoyed fishing and his beloved NY Yankees and Giants. Recently he donated DNA to help successfully identify the remains of his oldest brother, Cpl. Darrell Scarbrough, who was listed in 1950 as a POW-MIA in the Korean War Conflict.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Darrell Scarbrough, Charles Scarbrough and Larry Scarbrough; and one sister, June Sutton.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Debbie McGuire Scarbrough of Fayetteville; three sons, Kevin M. Scarbrough and wife, Lynn of Charleston, Timothy W. Scarbrough and wife, Stacey of Michigan, and Shawn M. Scarbrough of Charleston; two daughters, Ashley R. Scarbrough and Kelsey N. Scarbrough, both of Fayetteville; five brothers, Kenneth Scarbrough of Parkersburg, Sherman Max Scarbrough and wife, Sue of Fayetteville, Johnny Scarbrough of Bradley, Ernest “Ricky” Scarbrough and wife, Linda of Fayetteville; and Michael Scarbrough of Fayetteville; two sisters, Karen Slaughter and husband, Tillman of Lookout, and Marilyn Richards and husband, Jesse of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, Kara Scarbrough, Sydney Scarbrough, Kaylee Scarbrough, Samantha Scarbrough, Hannah Scarbrough and Aaron Scarbrough; several nephews and nieces; and two sisters-in-law: Jari Rhodes of Jacksonville, FL, and Daphney McGuire Davis of Oak Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Rev. Warren Gilpin officiating. Burial will follow in the Scarbrough Family cemetery, Beckwith.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 on today at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of the arrangements.

David Alan Wriston III

David Alan Wriston III, one-day-old infant son of David Wriston of Bradley and Tana Acord of Fairdale, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006.

David was born Nov. 8, 2006 at Beckley.

Other survivors besides his parents are paternal grandparents, David and Marlene Wriston of Bradley; paternal great-grandparents, Agatha Wriston of Kingston, and Marvin Cline of Kingston; a half sister, Catherine Wriston of Rhodell; and a uncle, Derek Wriston.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Legg officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry, Beckley.

Ronald Wayne Dalton

PETERSTOWN — Ronald Wayne Dalton, 56, formerly of Princeton and Beckley, peacefully passed away and entered into heaven on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek, Va.

Born May 19, 1950, at Ronceverte, he was the son of the late Joe and Mae Mann Dalton Sr.

Ronald was a member of the Rock Camp Baptist Church and a past member and officer of the Princeton Jaycee and the Jaycee I. Senate. He was a supervisor for UPS in Beckley. Ronald loved playing with Jena, fishing with brother Joe and friends and spending time with his family at the beach.

Survivors left to cherish the memory of Ronald are his wife of 37 years, Nancy Taylor Dalton of the home; a son, Chris Dalton and wife, Tiffany, of Peterstown; a daughter, Melanie Dalton and her fiancé, Todd Keffer, of Peterstown; a brother, Joe Dalton Jr. of Union; a sister, Drema Wykle of Peterstown; two very loved granddaughters, Jena Dalton and Estella Keffer, both of Peterstown; in-laws, Estil and Irma Taylor of Peterstown; plus many family and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. today, Nov. 13, 2006, at Wickline Funeral Home in Lindside with the Rev. Donald Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in Keaton cemetery, Greenville.

Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Ballard, Danny Hines, Tim Glover, Marty Walker, Ed Gilger and Scott Wickline.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Elmer J. Farris

Elmer J. Farris, of Beckley, died at Raleigh General Hospital on Nov. 11, 2006, after a long illness.

Born April 15, 1916, at Beckley, he was one of 10 children born to Gus and Jamile Salem Farris.

He was a 1934 graduate of Wood-row Wilson High School, where he was a member of the school band and orchestra. He attended Bowling Green Business College in Bowling Green, Ky., and was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Mr. Farris was a charter member of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division where he served as a glider man. He spent 41 months in the military, 29 of those over seas, participated in six major campaigns, and was discharged as a master sergeant. After military service, he returned to Beckley where he was co-owner of Gus Farris Department Store working until the closing of the store in 1991. At that time, the store was the oldest continually operating business in Beckley. He was a lifetime member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where he was one-time director of the men’s choir.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice M. Lynch and Isabel M. Farris; three brothers, Felix P. Farris, Farris Joseph Farris, and Dr. Frederick P. Farris.

He is survived by a brother, Dr. James T. Farris of Beckley, and three sisters, Helen C. Hayes and Evelyn A. Farris, both of Beckley, and Florence M. Boisse of Manchester, N.H., and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley with Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. by Father Samuel Sacus.

Funeral Liturgy will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley. Rite of Committal will be at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Condolences of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice.
