Ernest Miller

Ernest Miller, 80, of Beckley passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006.

Born Feb. 28, 1925, at Hinton, he was the son of the late Arthur V. Miller and the late Delilah J. Miller.

Ernest enjoyed raising and showing horses, running a dozer and hunting.

In addition to his parents, Ern-est was preceded in death by his wife, Garnet Miller; a sister, Ruby Ratliff; and four brothers, Raymond, Basil, Dewey, and Charles.

Those left to cherish his memory include his three daughters, Drema Miller of Beckley, Joyce Wriston and husband, Freddie, of Beckley and Leisa Blevins and husband, Larry, of Beckley; two grandchildren, Tricia Nish and husband, Matthew, of Beckley and Tammy Reese and husband, Ronnie, of Elliston, Va.; great-granddaughters, Angel Hodge and husband, Aaron, Shawna, Lariat, and Colt Blevins, Kassie, Nikkie, and Jessie Reese, and Tonya Dillon; great-grandsons, Case and Cohen Blevins and Aden Nish; great-great-grandsons, Shawn Blevins and Cameron Hodge and Colby Keen; a brother, Robert Miller and wife, Dorothy, of Hinton; two sisters, Gladys Fink of Chesapeake and Hilda Cole of Front Royal, Va.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Pastor Thomas H. Brown and Pastor Delmas Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Hodge, Michael Kincaid, Wayne Shrewsbury, Roy Davis, Bobby Cox and John Malay.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Jane Muncy

GILBERT — Betty Jane Muncy, 77, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Highland Memory Gardens, Godby Heights, Pecks Mill. There will be no visitation.

Agnes Myrtle Berry

MAPLEWOOD — Agnes Myrtle Berry, 89, passed away Tuesday evening, May 2, 2006, at her home following a long illness.

Born June 27, 1916, at Landisburg, she was a daughter of the late Jerimah and Ora Mae Parker Lester.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert “Bus” Berry, in 1982; a son, Jennings Albert Berry; four sisters, Gertrude Campbell, Mary Thomas, Lena Halstead, and Virginia Gunnoe; and five brothers, Earl, Lawrence, Everette, Henry, and Gordon Lester.

Mrs. Berry was a member of Lilly Park Full Gospel Church of Rainelle, and a homemaker.

Survivors include three daughters, Rose Marie Fox and husband, Andrew E., of Maplewood, Ardena Farley and husband, Leonard, of Maplewood, and Sheila Ann Keaton and husband, Earl, of Meadow Bridge; daughter-in-law, Dolores Berry of Maplewood; two sisters, Ruby Sorrells of Danese, and Pearl Jones of Maryland; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor James Cox and Pastor Butch LeGrand officiating. Burial will follow in Withrow-Shuck-Bennett cemetery at Landisburg.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charlie T. Buckland

Charlie T. Buckland, 90, of Hinton died Wednesday morning May 3, 2006 at the VA Medical Center in Beckley following a long illness.

Born March 14, 1916 in Hinton, he was the son of the late Charlie Rex Buckland and Sarah Ada Wickline Buckland McNiel.

Charlie was a former employee of Hercules Powder Company and Burlington Mills in Radford, Virginia. He was also employed in construction of the Bluestone Dam in Hinton and was engaged in farming as long as health permitted. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, serving in the 5th Marine Division. Charlie was of the Baptist faith and had lived most of his life in Summers County.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Ola Gill Buckland. Also preceded a son, Charlie Ray Buckland. Two sisters, Arretta Virginia (Teddy) Allen and Pauline Evelyn (Polly) McNiel. One grandson, Matthew Shannon Wills; and one son-in-law, Kenneth C. Wills.

Survivors include his two daughters, Juanita Carol Wills and Melba Jean Buckland, both of Hinton; one sister, Martha Helen Adkins of Hinton; one brother, George W. Buckland of Ravenswood, WV; three grandchildren, Sandra Lemon and husband James, Dennis Wills and wife Lisa, and Kenneth Wills, Jr., all of Hinton; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeremy Lemon and Brian, Shanna and Brandon Wills; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday May 6, 2006 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Jeff Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow in the Upland cemetery at Upland. Friends may call from 12 noon until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Harry, David, Oliver, Oliver, Jr., Jeff, and Benny Allen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hubert Gill & Jeremy Lemon.

GAULEY BRIDGE — Carl James “Jim” Childers, 60, died Sunday, April 30, 2006.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at the Hill cemetery in Belva.

PRINCETON — Lewis Cisco, 72, died Monday, May 1, 2006.

VERNER — Icy G. Cline, 83, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006.

GLEN JEAN — Ethel Gore died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at her home following a long illness.

Ethel Wallace Hare

RICHMOND, Va. — Ethel Wallace Hare, 83, formerly of Narrows, Va., died Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006.

Born Feb. 24, 1923, at Zenith, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late William Grover and Myrtle Elizabeth Canterbury Wallace.

In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Clarence Hare; and three brothers, Dewey Wallace, Grover Wallace, and Kenneth Wallace.

At age 45, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Pulaski General Hospital School of Nursing and served as an LPN for several years. In addition, she was a volunteer Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital, held various offices in the Giles Homemaker’s Club, and assistant leader of the Girl Scouts. She was a charter member of the Pearisburg Seventh Day Adventist Church, serving as District President of Community Services, and at the time of her death a member of the Far West End Seventh Day Adventist Church in Richmond.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, April and Steve Yates of Powhatan, Va.; one son and his wife, Joseph and Pam Hare of Henrico County, Va.; one sister, Betty Wallace Callahan of Hanover, Md.; three granddaughters, Rhonda Yates Hendon of Nashville, Tenn., Laura H. Hare and Kristen E. Hare, both of Henrico County; one great-granddaughter, Riley Jane Wallace Hendon of Nashville.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg, Va., with Dr. Robert Banks and Pastor Daniel Royo officiating.

The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. today at Riffe’s Funeral Service, 600 Main St., Narrows, Va.

Leonard Charles Judy

NEOLA — Leonard Charles Judy, 75, died Monday, May 1, 2006.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Neola Baptist Church, Neola. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Anthony Creek Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Robert Fredrick ‘Bobby’ Arthur

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Robert Fredrick “Bobby” Arthur, 57, formerly of Prosperity, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at the home of his daughter in Mount Airy following a long illness.

Born at Prosperity on June 10, 1948, he was the son of the late Fred Arthur and Pauline Payne Arthur.

Mr. Arthur was a disabled tractor-trailer operator and had made his home at Prosperity most of his life.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Arthur.

Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Baldwin and husband, Lloyd, of Mount Airy; three grandsons, James and John Arthur, and Eddie Baldwin; a great-granddaughter, Malena Arthur; adopted daughter, Cathy Williams, and adopted granddaughter, Amber Williams, of Prosperity; his wife, Beverly Richmond Arthur of Beaver; two stepsons, James and Casey Pierce of Beaver; three brothers, Billy Ray Arthur of Reidsville, N.C., Larry Eugene Arthur of Reidsville and Johnny Arthur of Virginia; and a sister, Nancy Toney of Reidsville.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Chalmer Abrams officiating. Burial will follow in Arthur cemetery, Prosperity.

Friends may call one hour before service Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Michael, Buzzy and Tommy Richmond, John Arthur, Eddie Baldwin, James and Casey Pierce, and Heath Richmond.

Ava Joy Fink, 53, of Egeria Road, Flat Top, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ethel Lee Gore

GLEN JEAN — Ethel Lee Gore, 83, of 69 Collins Hill Road, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2006, after a two-year illness.

Born Aug. 12, 1922, in Orrville, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Johnny Jones Sr. and Mylie King Jones.

Mrs. Gore was a member of First Baptist Church of Glen Jean.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Amelia Allen; brother, Johnny Jones Jr.; brother, Nehemiah Jones; and grandsons, Dwayne Gore and Timothy Mosley.

Survivors include her husband, Glen A. Gore; two sons, Glen L. Gore of District Heights, Md., and Frederick D. Gore of Clinton, Md.; six daughters, Claretta Brown of Washington, D.C., Janette Mosley Cunningham of Suitland, Md., Constance M. Barclay of Fort Washington, Md., Diane A. Stevens of Hilltop, Rachel L. Gore of Fort Washington and Regina I. Gore of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Laska H. Jones of Redlands, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and six sisters-in-law.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Glen Jean with Bishop Fred Simms officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service Sunday at the church.

Arrangements entrusted to Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.
