GILBOA — Jane Karen Jones, 65, of Gilboa, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the Rich Creek cemetery at Jodie. There will be no visitation.

HIX — Boyd G. Lilly, Jr., 66, of Hix, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, at 12:40 a.m., in the Charleston Area Medical Center General Division, following a long illness.

John Joseph ‘Joe’ West
John Joseph West, 75, of Beckley, went home to Jesus on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005.
Born Nov. 20, 1929, at Vals Creek, he was the son of the late Edgar F. West and Nora Elizabeth West.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence West.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Mary S. West; daughters, Pam Stewart and husband Jack of South Carolina, Sandra Hawley and husband Mark of Beckley, and Linda West Swiger and husband Greg of Oak Hill; three grandchildren, Afton Hawley of Beckley, Joseph Stewart and Kelli Stewart, both of South Carolina; his beloved cat and buddy, Goldie; and his sister, Ruth Adkins of Cedar Bluff, Va.
Mr. West was a veteran of the United States Army, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Beckley Shrine Club. He was a retired employee of Tomchin Furniture Company and John W. Eye. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s United Methodist Church.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Rev. Steve Rector officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Members of the Masonic Lodge will be serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dora Ruth Aliff
Dora Ruth Aliff, 79, of Beckley, formerly of Pineville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, following a long illness.
Born Jan. 9, 1926, at Pageton, she was the daughter of the late C.B. and Ollie Sexton Taylor.
Mrs. Aliff was a member of Sunhill Methodist Church.
She was married to Albert Aliff in 1943 at Pineville.
Mrs. Aliff worked as a medical secretary for 25 years for the late Dr. Ned C. Rogers and Dr. V.S. Diwan of Pineville.
Many people will remember Mrs. Aliff for her gift of singing gospel music. She and her husband sang as a group called the Pineville Sacred Singers and also as the Happy Travelers.
Mrs. Aliff and her husband attended faithfully for 45 years the West Virginia State Gospel Singers Association at Mount Nebo. She also served as financial secretary for the association 16 of those years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Aliff, was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Mr. Albert Aliff; and two brothers, Bud Taylor and Gene Taylor.
Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Peggy Jane Huffman and husband, Larry, of Beckley (whom she affectionately referred to as her best buddy).
She was “mamaw” to grandchildren, Kristen Sisler and husband, Bill, of Fayetteville and LeAndrea Young of Beckley.
Mrs. Aliff was the great-grandmother of Kaitlyn, Whitney and Aaron Sisler.
She also leaves a brother, Ted Taylor and wife, Imogene, of Pasadena, Md.; and sisters, Ruby Morgan and husband, Mack, of Pineville and Betty Graham and husband, Mickey, of Florida. She will be sadly missed by a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
At her request, graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, with the Rev. Ronald Adkins officiating.

Robert Harmon Biggs
Robert Harmon Biggs, 80, of Beckley, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at the Beckley VA Medical Center following a long illness.
Born Aug. 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Henry and Maggie Samples Biggs.
Mr. Biggs served his country in World War II as a gunner instructor for the B-29 in the Army Air Corps. Following his military service he began work-ing for the U.S. Postal Service where he retired as a superintendent of mails with 41 years of service. He was also a member of St. Mary’s United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Biggs was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry, James, John Ernest and Russell Biggs.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara Cole Biggs; a daughter, Cynthia Sweeney and her husband, Dwayne, and their son, Shawn, of Greenville, S.C.; a son, Robert L. Biggs of New Haven, Conn.; and a sister, Cornea Meador and her husband, Frank, of Pontiac, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Roger Casteele, 65, formerly of Beckley, was dead on arrival Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at an Alexandria hospital.

Dorothy A. Chapman
Dorothy A. Chapman of Beckley went to be with her heavenly father on Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Chapman was a longtime resident of the Beckley area. She was a retired LPN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Lester Chapman, and a daughter, Hazel L. Sigmon.
Survivors include her children, Robert L. Chapman of North Carolina, Harold E. Chapman of Mount Hope and Nancy Lunsford of Florida; five grandchildren, Mike and Jimmy Chapman of North Carolina, Steve and David Sigmon of Ohio, and Susan Lunsford of Ohio; and a sister, Macil Rucker of Glen Ferris.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Roes and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Sandy Corey
On Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, Sandy Corey died suddenly at her home of an apparent heart attack. She was 62 years of age.
Born Sandra Ballard on April 12, 1943, at Hinton, she was the daughter of Pauline Meadows Ballard of Jumping Branch and the late Forest Buford Ballard.
Sandy spent her childhood at Jumping Branch, moving to Beckley at the age of 10. She was a graduate of Shady Spring High School, Class of 1961. She was formerly employed at the Bank of Raleigh, Crossroads National Bank and was the office manager for William H. Harris, DDS, at North Kanawha Street in Beckley for the past 18 years. She had a very kind and caring way for Dr. Harris’ patients. A lover of animals, Sandy enjoyed gardening and entertaining friends and family at her home on Tank Branch Road where she had resided for the past 20 years. An avid WVU Mountaineer fan, Sandy will be remembered for her outgoing personality and making people feel special.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Wills.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her beloved husband, John S. Corey; was the loving mother of David O’Neal and his partner, Bill Masters, of Washington, D.C.; a dear sister to Libby Rupe of Beckley; she is also survived by a stepdaughter, Lisa Pow and her husband, Donald, of Sterling, Scotland; a stepson, Jay Corey and his wife, Kellie, of Ellicott City, Md.; and two step grandchildren, Callum and Anna Pow. Several nieces and nephews also survive, as well as many friends.
Memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley. The family will receive friends during that time.

Una Meleese Cox
BRADENTON, Fla. — Una Meleese Cox, 94, formerly of Wyoming County, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, in Casa Mora Rehabilitation Center, Bradenton.
Born in Crockett, Ky., she was the daughter of the late John and Corinthia Baird Barker.
Mrs. Cox graduated from Berea College with a degree in nursing and taught science at Pineville High School during the late 1940s and early 1950s. She taught nursing and directed the nursing program at Cortland General Hospital in Cortland, N.Y., from the late 1950s until her retirement.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Landon B. Cox; a son, Roger E. Cox; and a brother, Victor Barker.
She is survived by a brother, Leslie Barker of Bradenton; and a sister, Vivian Winget of Oklahoma City, Okla.
