Lena Tilley

Lena Neal Tilley of Murrells Inlet, S.C., formerly of Westwood Drive, Beckley, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, in Waccamaw Community Hospital following a long illness. She was 98 years of age.

Edith Rodgers Wilson

LEWISBURG — Edith Rodgers Wilson, 93, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at her home following a short illness.

Edith was born Jan. 26, 1913, near Organ Cave and was a lifelong resident of Greenbrier County. She graduated from Ronceverte High School and Greenbrier College for Women. She taught school prior to her marriage to Harvey Black Wilson in 1937. Together they began Wilson Turkey Farm, which provided fresh turkeys to many businesses and families for 49 years. She was an avid gardener, producing prize-winning West Virginia State Fair entries. She was active in the operations of Valley View Farm, known for purebred Shorthorn cattle. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and served as treasurer of the Calvary United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Farm Bureau, CEOS Club formerly known as the Farm Women’s Club, and an active participant in Shepherd’s Center of Greenbrier Valley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Black Wilson; sister, Lucille M. Skaggs; and brothers, Frank G. Rodgers and Charles E. Rodgers.

Survivors include her son, Dr. John R. Wilson and wife, Vicki; her daughters, Genevieve W. Friedman, Sara W. McDonnell and Ann W. McClung and husband, Dr. Richard McClung; grandchildren, Frederick Friedman and wife, Annie, Foster Friedman and wife, Kim, Frank Friedman and wife, Debbie, Christie London and husband, Ed, Kate Fife and husband, Randy, Leslie Bicksler and husband, Doug, Drs. Abby Durden and husband, Dusty, Elizabeth Wilson, Margaret Wilson, Reagan Luntz and husband, David, Ellen McDonnell and husband, Mark O’Neill, Claire McDonnell, Mark McClung and wife, Michelle, and Jenny McClung; 11 great-grandchildren; and special friends and caregivers, Mary Bryant, Sue Wilson, Jotina Hamrick, Natashia Hamrick and Lynn Morgan.

Family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the home of Ann and Rick McClung, Valley View Farm.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary United Me-thodist Church with the Rev. Paul Suttle officiating.

Mrs. Wilson donated her body to the Human Gift Registries to be used at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Donations of sympathy may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, c/o Ruth Sweet, Treasurer, 220 S. Jefferson St., Lewisburg, or Shepherd’s Center of Greenbrier Valley, P.O. Box 54, Lewisburg.

Judy Gayle Lilly Wilson

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Judy Gayle Lilly Wilson, 65, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro.

Judy was born April 25, 1940, in Raleigh County to the late Hurcial and Jewell Lilly. She practiced as an LPN for 27 years in mental health care. She was a beloved mother, sister and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Marvin Carl Wilson, in 2002.

Surviving Judy are her daughter, Dawn Wilson Trail and husband, Jeff, of Pleasant Garden, N.C.; son, Kevin Wilson and wife, Patti, of Beckley; four grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Nicholas and Will Trail of Pleasant Garden, and Tyler and Kristyn Wilson of Beckley; seven sisters and brothers, Susan Szoke, Lois Johnson and Rosanna Lilly, all of Beckley, Roger Lilly of Maine, Freddie Lilly and Mason Lilly of Shady Spring, and Sydney Lilly of White Oak.

Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Saturday at Maxwell Hill Baptist Church, Beckley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Enduring Freedom KIA Fund, a charity devoted to helping families of fallen soldiers (www.killedinaction.org).

Sensible Alternatives, Greensboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Jennie Lou Crotty

SCARBRO — Jennie Lou Crotty, 92, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005.

Born Dec. 8, 1912, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Jones.

Mrs. Crotty attended Full Gospel Church of Scarbro and loved to read her Bible. Jennie was an avid baker.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crotty was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Crotty; and seven brothers and sisters.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Those left to cherish her loving memory include a daughter, Peggy Jones and her husband, Kester, of Scarbro; grandson, Jeffrey Ayers and wife, Jennifer, of Kenosha, Wis.; two granddaughters, Jeri Light and husband, Frankie, of Fayetteville and Jami Evans and husband, Nicholas, of Fayetteville; and four great-great-grandchildren, Breanna, Haley, Jacob and Olivia Ayers, all of Kenosha.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, is serving the family.

Vivian ‘Bib’ Sizemore Farruggia

Vivian “Bib” Sizemore Farruggia, 75, of Coal City went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, following a long illness, and to join her beloved family, husband, Tony Farruggia; two brothers, Garland Sizemore and Glen Sizemore; and five sisters, Mildred Mercer, Erma Justice, Margie Spears, Mary Lee Spencer and Kethel Jones.

“Bib” was the daughter of the late Emmet and Effie Halsey-Sizemore; she was born Nov. 15, 1929, at Pierpoint.

Mrs. Farruggia was a member of Lego Church of Jesus, where her pastor was Ray Stewart. She was a proud and strong Christian woman who loved church and her goal was to make it to Heaven.

Besides church, her greatest joy and accomplishment, however, was being a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her three daughters, Shelia Puckett and husband, Tommy, of Coal City, Shelma Adkins and husband, Fred, of Beckley and Tarenna Copley and husband, Billy, of Stotesbury; a son, Michael Farruggia and wife, Valerie, of Shady Spring; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Puckett, Thomas Puckett and wife, Natasha, Toni McKinney and husband, Gary, Freddy Adkins, Serena Ellison and husband, Paul, Donny and Kelly Adkins, Marissa Copley, Whittni Farruggia, Courtney and Ashley Farruggia; six great-grandchildren, Brittni and Shana McKinney, Randy and Jessie Ellison, Tyler and Hayleigh Puckett; two sisters, Wilma Stewart and husband, Rev. Ray, and Lela Smith; and four sisters-in-law, Tena Crook, Doris Farruggia, Dorothy “Tootsie” Farruggia and Frances Vass and husband, Carl.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with the Rev. Ray Stewart, the Rev. Gary Blankenship and Evangelist Eddie Tucker officiating. Reading of the obituary will be by Kelly Adkins, and poem written and read by Serena Ellison. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Thomas Puckett, Freddy, Donny and Kelly Adkins, and other family members, Paul Ellison and Fred Puckett.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Hospice and the staff for all the love and care they showed, especially Darlene Bennett, Debbie and Teresa, and a special thank you to Brittni McKinney, who was so faithful to help all that she could. Also a thank you to Carolyn Ogara. A special thank you to the family and friends which helped in any way at all.

Thanks to all who sent up a prayer, called, brought food, flowers and came to visit, etc. God bless each and everyone that had a part in any way.

Mrs. Farruggia made her home with her oldest daughter, Sheila Puckett in Coal City.

Also we wanted to give special thanks to the sisters and brother who helped in her care in any way they could throughout the years.

She will be sadly missed by her four loving children and family.

HUNTINGTON — Ethel Clay Green, 91, formerly of Beckley, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, in a Huntington hospital of natural causes.

Zina E. Morton Davis James

In the early morning hours Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, Zina Elizabeth Morton Davis James took her flight and left these mundane shores and entered the Celestial City of Heaven in the quietness of her home beside her beloved husband, Tom, in Harper Heights.

Zina was born in Beckley, at Raleigh General Hospital. Zina was baptized at an early age by her father, the Rev. R.D. Morton. She was a former member of Central Baptist Church where she sang in the Youth Choir. Zina enjoyed singing, dancing, playing pranks and laughter. Zina was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, a cheerleader, a lassie, member of the Rap Club and of the NAACP Youth. After high school, she entered West Virginia State College, then Fairmont State College. Zina earned degrees in business management, real estate, accounting and was skilled in computers.

Zina was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, William Melvin and Ethel Mae Morton; maternal grandparents, Rev. Alvin Kyle and Amanda Louise Pryor; two uncles, Alvin Pryor Jr. and Ezra F. Ferrell, aka “Johnny Pryor”; sister, Cheryl Denise, and cousin, Lonnie E. Pryor.

Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Tom James Jr.; two sons, William C. Jr. of Georgia and Jack C. “Pooh” Jr. of Virginia; father and mother, the Rev. and Mrs. R.D. aka “O” and Mary Pryor Morton of Beckley; father and mother-in-law, Tom D. Sr. and Derothia James of Harper Heights; brother, Maj. Professor Robert “Oscar” and future bride, Genice Hodge, of Jackson, Miss.; sister, Cassandra and Clarence Owens of Beckley; a brother, Lawyer (Esquire) Alvin William Morton I of Springfield, Mass., and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews far and near; and friend, Vie Cabell of Beckley.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Baptist Church, 197 Brooks St., Beckley, with Pastors R.I. Brown and R.D. Morton officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service Saturday at the church.

Crystal J. Lehrke

FAIRLEA — Crystal J. Lehrke, 85, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at Greenbrier Manor Nursing Home, Fairlea, after a long illness.

Born Feb. 1, 1920, in Streeter, N.D., she was the daughter of the late John G. and Caroline Rue Olson.

Mrs. Lehrke had been a resident of the Lewisburg area for the past 21 years, member of Greenbrier Valley Church of the Nazarene, Sunday school teacher for 28 years, president of N.W.M.S., Church Board member and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold A. Lehrke, on Feb. 26, 2000; and brothers, Norris, Clifford and Leon Olson.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Lehrke of Lewisburg and Sandra Sams of Alderson; a son, Dean Lehrke of Coffeyville, Kan.; two sisters, Lila Larsen and Hazel Stallock, both of Jamestown, N.D.; two brothers, Vernon Olson of Napa Valley, Calif., and Orville Olson of New Boston, Texas; and two grandsons, Nathan Sams and Jared Sams.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Alderson Church of the Nazarene, Muddy Creek Mountain, with the Rev. Edward Midcap and the Rev. Glen Thaxton officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood cemetery, Lewisburg.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at Longanacre Funeral Home, Fairlea, and one hour before service Saturday at the church.

Loretta Lester

BRENTON — Loretta Lester, 64, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, following an automobile accident.

Wesley L. Meadows

Wesley L. Meadows, 90, of Eccles, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born May 28, 1915, at Tommy Creek (Rhodell), he was the son of the late Albert and Nellie Meadows.

After graduating from Stoco High School in Coal City, Wesley married Chessie Mae Hayworth in 1939 and together they raised four beautiful girls. He supported his family as a fire boss in the coal mines where he worked for 45 years until his retirement. Wesley spent his retirement raising two large gardens a year (sharing with everyone), visiting his homestead in Rhodell and enjoying his grandchildren.

Wesley Meadows’ family will happily remember his bright smile and loving heart, avidly reading the Bible, picnicking, hunting and swearing off doctors and living by vitamins and exercise. His strong will to live and love was enduring to his bittersweet end.

In addition to his parents, Wesley Meadows was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Sue Meadows; his granddaughter, Rebecca Toney; his best friend and brother, Lonza Meadows; and five beloved sisters, Chloe Clark, Eddie Hylton, Myrtle Meadows, Piney Darnell and Willa Warwick.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Chessie Mae Meadows; three daughters, Deanna Meadows of West Virginia, Brenda Barnes of Maryland and Naomi Hughes and husband, Charles, of West Virginia; and sister, Cleo Gordon of Alabama.

Wesley left behind eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. The grandchildren are Timmy Toney of Florida; Pam Stewart and husband, Stewart, and two children, Kyle and Ian, of West Virginia; Tracie Butler and husband, Jack, of Maryland; Marvelle Lewis and husband, Don, with four children, Maria, Jonathon, Chandler and Carlene with husband and daughter, Trinity, of North Carolina; Kimberly O’Dell and husband, Matthew, with daughter, Kristyn, of West Virginia; Jeffrey Barnes of West Virginia; Wesley Toney with wife, JoEllen, and three children, Maggie, Eric and Aleck, of Virginia; and Cynthia Hughes of West Virginia.

Friends and family may call 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Melton Mortuary, Beckley. Service will begin immediately after at 1 p.m., and burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

MAN — Haskle C. Moore, 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005.
