Edwin ‘Pop’ Webb

FAIRLEA — Edwin Posey “Pop” Webb, 79, passed away Friday, June 23, 2006, at Charleston Area Medical Center.

Posey was born Dec. 30, 1926, at White Sulphur Springs to the late Charles and Jessie Wickline.

Posey retired from Acme Limestone Co. in Fort Spring with 47 years of service. He graduated from National Business College of Roanoke, Va. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Greenbrier County Board of Zoning Appeals for 34 years, a member of the Fairlea Ruritans, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ronceverte, where he served as treasurer for eight years, and was a charter member of Spartan Boosters Club.

Other than his parents, Posey was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Patton.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Webb; three daughters, Tina Watkins and husband, Tommy, of White Sulphur Springs, Christy Ford and husband, Glen, of Lewisburg and Kendra York and husband, Tim, of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Brandon, Loren, Jessie and Frank; and a brother, Marshall Webb of White Sulphur Springs.

A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 26, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ronceverte, with the Rev. Mike Estep officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call one hour before service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions to be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, which Mr. Webb was actively involved: United Methodist Church Building Fund, 707 Pocahontas Ave., Ronceverte, WV 24970.

Alice Faye Wells

SMOOT — Alice Faye Wells, 65, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at home following a short illness.

Born April 6, 1940, at Charmco, she was the daughter of the late Parker David and Lilly Jane Sheppard DePriest.

Mrs. Wells was a homemaker.

She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, Theodore “Rose” Wells; and several brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory are her devoted and loving husband of 46 years, Carl Adrian Wells; three sons, James Carl “Pete” Wells and wife, Lori, of Mount Hope, Kevin Wayne “Peanut” Wells and wife, Pam, of Smoot and Teddy David Wells of Smoot; three daughters, Leslie Ann Wells of Mount Hope, April Lynn Osborne of Rainelle and Teresa Jo Martin and husband, Ronnie, of Mount Hope; very special friends, Ennis and Bill Allen of Rainelle; seven sisters, Rosalie Jane Jozwiak of Flushing, Ohio, Bina Virginia Taylor of Rupert, Mamie Nell Martin of Rainelle, Juanita Mae Ruzek and husband, Frank, of Greenville, S.C., Madeline Carol Detrick and husband, George, of Rainelle, Patricia Ann Kessler and husband, Roger, of Rupert and Gladys Arlene Bowles of White Sulphur Springs; eight grandchildren, Kristen, Olivia, Maggie, Gary, Conner, Chel-sey, Mickaela and Emily; one great-grandchild, Madison; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Michael Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Smoot.

Friends may call one hour before service Saturday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Cyrus A. Williams

Cyrus A. Williams, 85, of 202 Fairview Ave., Beckley, formerly of Kopperston, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at Hilltop Center following a short illness.

Born April 9, 1920, at Long Branch, he was the son of the late Frank Williams and Virgie Walton Williams.

Mr. Williams was a retired electrician for Eastern Associated Coal Corp. with 47 years of service. He lived in Beckley since 1986.

He was a World War II U.S. Army and Air Force veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Williams; and brother, Frank Williams Jr.

Survivors include a son, Richard Williams and wife, Sallye, of Apopka, Fla.; daughter, Peggy Brown and husband, Craig, of Beckley, with whom he made his home; grandchildren, Brian Williams and wife, Donna, of Beckley, Kimberly Williams of Apopka, and Lindsay Wilson and husband, Ian, of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Tanner Williams of Apopka and Morgan Williams of Beckley; a sister, Pattie Brooks of Beckley; four nieces, a nephew and four “granddogs.”

Graveside rites and burial will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with the Rev. Jerry Cook officiating.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Mullins, Brian Williams, Craig Brown, Dan Thacker, Richard Williams and Gayle Pennington.

Robert Lee Workman

Robert Lee Workman, 78, of Clear Creek, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, after a long illness.

Born July 4, 1927, at Artie, he was the son of the late James and Belva Collins Workman.

Mr. Workman was active in his community and was a lifelong member of Advent Christian Log Church at Artie.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline E. Jarrett Workman; three daughters, Donna Shea of Mount Hope, Deanna Sizow of Virginia Beach, Va., and Dina Baggett of Beckley; two sons, Larry R. Workman of Route 1, Beckley, and Lonnie R. Workman of Fayetteville; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mattie Hodge of Elkton, Md., O’Dessie Long of Oak Hill and Janet Burgess of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Service will be 1:30 p.m. at Advent Christian Log Church, Artie, with the Revs. Roy Runion and Robert Hodge officiating. Burial will follow in Workman’s Family cemetery, Artie.

Friends may call starting at 6 p.m. today at the church.

Amber Marie Adkins

MILTON — Amber Marie Adkins, infant daughter of Ronald Ray Adkins and Troy Leann Pennington Fisher of Milton, was stillborn Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Charleston.

There will be no visitation.

Graveside rites and committal service will be 3 p.m. today at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Richard ‘Bugsy’ Allen

SINKS GROVE — Richard “Bugsy” Hillard Allen, 22, passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at his home after a short illness.

Born May 26, 1983, in Lomer, he was the son of Richard L. Allen Jr. of Union and Deborah V. Weikle of Sinks Grove.

Mr. Allen was a lifelong resident of Sinks Grove and worked for Weikle Brothers Lumber Co., Sinks Grove, as a laborer.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Hillard “Smitty” Smith and Richard “Pete” Allen; stepgrandparents, Kenneth and Evelyn Weikle; and his uncle, Timmy Smith.

Survivors include his parents, Debby and Keith Weikle of Sinks Grove and Richard and Sheri Allen of Union; his soul mate, Megan Fick of Sinks Grove; three sisters, Annie Boggs and husband, Travis, of Lillydale, Jenifer Boone and husband, Tommy, of Organ Cave and Hattie “Sissy” Allen of Sinks Grove; a half sister, Brianna Allen of Union; two stepbrothers, Justin Weikle and Jordan Weikle, both of Sinks Grove; maternal grandmother, Virginia Smith of Pickaway, and paternal grandmother, Lois Allen of Union; nieces and nephews, Dalton and Jolie Boggs, Deborah and Shyanne Lane, Hannah and Ethan Boone, Brittany and Courtney Boone; aunts and uncles, Ella and the late Paul Wickline, Gladys and Gene Young, Kathy and Dave Schmidt, Bobby Smith, Barry and Terry Allen, Debbie and Bobby Wilson, and Mary Ann and Billy Level; and a host of great-aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and many friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Longanacre Funeral Home, Fort Spring, with the Rev. Jonathan Hunt officiating.

At Mr. Allen’s request, he will be cremated.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mildred E. Ayers

HINTON — Mildred E. Ayers, 91, of Route 1, Hinton, formerly of Green Sulphur Springs, died Saturday morning, Jan. 28, 2006, at Summers Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at Hilldale following a long illness.

Mary Ramsey Baber

Mary Ramsey Baber died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, James and Linda Ramsey of Granville Avenue, Beckley. She was in her 92nd year.

Born Mary Jane White on Feb. 20, 1913, at Church Hill in Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of the late Milton Hugh and Fannie Raikes White.

A resident of Beckley the past two and half years, Mary was a longtime resident of Richmond where she was employed with the Life Insurance Co. of Virginia in the policy loan division. She was a member of Ridge Baptist Church, Richmond. She will be remembered as a beloved Mother and Grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands James S. Ramsey, in December 1983, and Joseph Wilson Baber, in February 1998; and brothers, Maynard and George Marshall White.

Survivors in addition to her son and his wife are three granddaughters, Anna Renay Pugh and her husband, Franklin, of Greensboro, N.C., and Tanya Leigh Brackman and her husband, Marcus, and Mary E. Barwick and her husband, Andrew, all of Atlanta, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren, Meredith, Franklin, Eli, Reese and Jacob.

Committal service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Forrest Lawn cemetery, Richmond.

Curtis Blackburn

MATHENY — Curtis Blackburn departed this life Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at the age of 71 years, nine months and 21 days, following a long illness.

Born April 6, 1934, at Inez, Ky., he was the son of the late Jasper and Cora Blackburn.

Mr. Blackburn was a greenhouse worker and a member of Sun Rise Church at Koppers-ton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Ray Blackburn; and a sister.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rebecca Burchfield Blackburn; a son, Emmons Jasper Blackburn and his wife, Drema, of Oceana; a daughter, Doris Collins and her husband, Earl Ray, of Oceana; four brothers, Darrell Blackburn, Howard Blackburn and Chester Blackburn, all of Inez, Ky., Carlos Blackburn of Naugatuck, and a half brother, James Nunery of Tennessee; two grandchildren, Earl Jason Collins and his wife, Amanda, of Kopperston and Timothy Jasper Blackburn of Delbarton; two great-grandchildren, Emily Grace Collins and Zachary Jason Collins; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A celebration of Mr. Blackburn’s life will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sun Rise Church, Kopperston, with the Rev. Oza Mullens officiating. Burial will follow in Blackburn cemetery, Naugatuck.

Casketbearers will be family and friends.

The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. today at the church and one hour before service Monday.

Betty Lou Johnson Clayton

SCARBRO — Betty Lou Johnson Clayton, 69, of Scarbro, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, following an extended illness.

Born Dec. 18, 1936, at Sutton, she was the daughter of the late Fred Johnson and Goldie Marie Davis Johnson.

Mrs. Clayton was a member of Scarbro Baptist Church. Her children were her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Goldie Johnson; two sons, Carl Brady Browning and Paul Earl Browning; and three brothers, Don Davis, Jiggs Johnson and Gene Johnson.

Survivors include her six sons, Bobby Ray Johnson and wife, Elanor, of Cleveland, Ohio, Johnny Leroy Johnson of Hilltop, David Shannon Browning and wife, Joan, of Scarbro, Marty Lee Browning of Glen Jean, Calvin Bradford Browning of Hilltop and Shaun Keith Clayton and wife, Donna, of Hilltop; four daughters, Patricia Ann Rivers and husband, Timothy, of Scarbro, Connie Fay Walters and husband, Jack, of Roanoke, Va., Susan Marie Ward and husband, Gary, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Angela Sue Love and husband, David, of Hilltop; 33 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Davis Johnson and wife, Sue, of Parkersburg; and four sisters, Janet Rogers of Cleveland, Sylvia Cartrell and husband, Flip, of Cleveland, Belva Kay Burges of St. Marys and Carol Johnson of Cleveland.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Rev. Kenny Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Clayton Family cemetery, Hilltop.

Friends may call one hour before service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of arrangements.
