Barbara Ellen Wyatt

Barbara Ellen Wyatt, 59, of Shady Spring, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Born Feb. 15, 1946, at Eccles, she was the daughter of the late Homer Lee Conn and Frankie Barbetta Conn.

Mrs. Wyatt was a homemaker. She was a member of Hotchkiss Missionary Baptist Church and lived most of her life at Shady Spring.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wesley Wyatt, in 1991; a son, Earl Wesley Wyatt; a granddaughter, Katrina Lynn McKinney; and a brother, Delmer Conn.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol McKinney and husband, Randy, of Shady Spring, with whom she made her home, Donna Lilly and husband, Larry, of Whitby and Elizabeth Simpson and husband, Randy, of Coal City; three brothers, Chester Conn and wife, Chea, of Pennsylvania, Dallas Conn and wife, Melissa, of Naoma and Gary Conn of Naoma; a sister, Betty Gooslin and husband, Jackie, of Pemberton; 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two nieces, four nephews and a great-nephew.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley. Burial will follow in Slab Fork cemetery.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Wanda Fay ‘Adkins’ Bradford

Wanda Fay “Adkins” Bradford, 60, of Dry Creek, formerly of Glen Daniel, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, following a long battle with diabetes and kidney failure.

She was born Nov. 4, 1945, at Cabin Creek and was the daughter of the late Hershel and Dorothy “Scott” Adkins.

She attended Trap Hill High School and was a resident of Illinois for a number of years. She worked for 23 years in the nursing field while in Illinois. She was of the Baptist faith and loved Gospel and country music and Nascar racing.

She also was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James E. Bradford; two brothers, Everett Ray Adkins and Mike “Melvin” Adkins, on Aug. 14, 2005; three sisters, Vonnie Sue McMillion, Geneva Adams and husband, Bobby E. Adams, Bernice Miller and husband, C. Frank Miller; two nieces, Cassondra Bledsoe, and Vonnie Adkins; and two great-nephews, Pele Adkins and Eric Mills.

Survivors include her loving son, Jimmy Lee Bradford and wife, Carrie, of Bolt, whom she loved very much; two wonderful grandchildren whom she loved and was so proud of, Sabrina Marie Bradford of Beaver and Daniel Lee Bradford of Bolt; three sisters, Betty and her husband, Raymond Nixon of New Carlisle, Ind., Ruth and her husband, Bobby Massey Sr. of Willowick, Ohio, Tressie and her husband, Troy Richardson Lester; five brothers, Kermit Adkins and wife, Charlene, of Wisconsin, Bobby Adkins and wife, Shaly, of Wisconsin, Hershel H. Adkins and wife, Peggy, of Arnett, Hubert Adkins and wife, Vickie, of Glen Daniel and Connie Adkins and wife Chris of Virginia; mother-in-law, Maxine Bradford of Dry Creek; sisters-in-law, Sandy Adkins of Indiana, and Delores Lego and husband Charles of Ohio; brothers-in law, Rexford L. McMillion, Sr., of Glen Daniel, Johnny Bradford and wife, Mona, of Florida, Dean Bradford and wife, Drema, of Rock Creek, Glen Bradford and wife, Jean, of Dry Creek and Robin Bradford of Daniels; also lots of loving nieces, nephews and friends.

The family and especially Carrie and Jim would like to thank her caregiver, Eva Hendrix, for all the wonderful care she gave during the past five years and to all who helped in any way. God bless you all. Thanks.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Whitesville with Rev. Dewey Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Chapel of Faith Mausoleum in Prosperity.

Troy, Mikey, Robin, Dean, Kevin, Danny, Charlie and Johnny will serve as pallbearers, and Thomas and Chad Mills will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

She is now at peace and resting with her beloved family in heaven. She would say, “Don’t grieve for me, because now I’m free.”

Leva Elizabeth Gum Brown

Leva Elizabeth Gum Brown, 82, of Orgas, formerly of Buckhannon and Mill Creek, passed away Nov. 11, 2005, at her home after a long illness.

Funeral services will be 8:30 p.m. today at Armstrong Funeral Home in Whitesville. Interment will be at Mill Creek cemetery. Additional service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Mission Church in Mill Creek with Rev. Long officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 to 2 p.m. at Memorial Mission Church, Mill Creek.

Karen Faye Browning

Karen Faye (Robinson) Browning of Verner went to sleep in Christ on Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Huntington after a heroic struggle with breast cancer.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at Verner Community Church in Verner, with the Rev. Walter Grimmett officiating. Visitation was accommodated between 6 and 9 p.m. Sunday at Verner Community Church. Rev. Daniel Dean and Rev. Michael Browning will conduct these services. The Tiller Family, The Runyon Family, Jackie Mounts and Doug Lester will provide the music. Graveside services will follow at the Browning Family cemetery, Verner, under the direction of Rev. Michael Browning.

Roger L. Casteele

Roger L. Casteele, 67, of Alexandria, Va., formerly of Beckley, W.Va., was dead on arrival at the Fairfax Hospital in Alexandria, Va., on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005.

Born at Ameagle on Aug. 15, 1940, he was the son of the late John R. and Marjorie M. Casteele.

He was a retired State Department employee of the United States government. He was an Air Force veteran, and had made Alexandria, Va., his home for 40 years.

Surviving are his brothers Carl Richard Casteele and wife Jo Ann of Cleveland, Ohio, Gary D. Casteele and wife Louise of Paris, Tenn., his sister Debbie Casteele of Mabscott and several nieces and nephews.

Committal services will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity. Burial will follow.

Friends may call from 2 until 4 p.m. today at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Lloyd Corbin Combs

Lloyd Corbin Combs, 73, of Iroquois, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at a Beckley hospital following a long illness.

Born Aug. 19, 1932, in Corbin Glow, Ky., he was the son of the late Johney Wilson and Gracie Bailey Combs.

Mr. Combs was a former coal miner, a member of the UMWA, and was an avid coon hunter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Calvin Combs, Jr., and John Chester Combs; and a sister, Screda Combs.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Ollie O’Neal Combs; four daughters, Linda Martin and her husband, Teddy, of Rhodell, Dorsey Stacey of Saulsville, Halley Teeters of Coeburn, Va., and Diane Lane and her husband Larry of Welch; six sons, Vannoy Combs of Kimball, Ivan Combs and his wife, Angela, of Iroquois, Carlos Combs and his wife, Rebecca Jane, of Milams Creek, Jessie J. Combs and his wife, Mary Beth, of Iroquois, Buddy Allen Combs and his companion, Terri, of Iroquois and Corbin Ray Combs and his companion, Tracey, of Minden; two sisters, Juanita Poe and her husband, Jack, of Arista Mountain and Elsie Akers of Princeton; 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel in Mullens with the Rev. Charlie Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in the George Shrewsbury cemetery in Barkers Ridge.

Friends may call today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Con Ray Dotson

Con Ray Dotson, 59, of Shady Spring, passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, after a long illness.

Mr. Dotson was born Dec. 10, 1945, to the late Elbert S. Dotson Sr. and the late Margie A. Wilson Dotson.

He served his country proudly as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps as a radio operator in the 3rd Marines Recon Unit in Vietnam from 1966 until 1967.

He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family at their camp on the Greenbrier River and was a devoted fan of football and Nascar racing.

Con was a 1977 graduate of Beckley College where he obtained an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.

He was a terminal manager for Smith’s Transfer for 20 years and was last employed as a terminal manager for Tri-State Express in Lochgelly.

He was a former member of the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department, where he served in numerous capacities including chief. He was a graduate of the first paramedic class in West Virginia.

He enjoyed coaching girls softball at Shady Spring Little League, where he led the team to a state championship.

He was of the Christian faith and attended Maple View Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, Con was preceded in death by a brother, James Dotson; and two sisters, Donna Belcher and Thelma Surface.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 38 years, Darlene Porter Dotson; three daughters, Susan Jordar and husband, Paige, of Camp Hill, Pa., Melissa Leonard and husband, Jason, of Concord, N.C., and Jennifer Holley and husband, Mike, of Beckley; one son, Brian Dotson and fianceé Kim Lively of Shady Spring; grandchildren, Derek and Kaitlyn Jordar, Madison and Makenzie Holley, Amanda Leonard and Hunter and Luke Lively; three brothers, Bennie Dotson and wife, Agnes, of Knoxville, Tenn., Elbert S. Dotson, Jr. “Ebbie” and wife, Martina, of Bluefield and Gordon Dotson and wife, Betty, of Michigan; three sisters, Shirley Sparks of Bland, Va., Geraldine Pruett of Bluefield, and Juanita May and husband Fred of Conway, S.C.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel in Beckley with Rev. Cleve Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park in Princeton.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home will be serving the family.

William H. Feyh

William H. Feyh, 61, of Caldwell died Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C., following a sudden illness.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Old Stone Presbyterian Church with Rev. D. Dexter Taylor officiating. Family will receive friends in the church’s fellowship hall following the service. Burial will be at a later date in Barracanas National cemetery, Pensacola, Fla.

Robert ‘Bo’ Gill

Robert “Bo” Gill, 72, of Hilldale, died Nov. 12, 2005, at his home following a long illness.

Born Dec. 25, 1932, at Talcott, he was a son of the late Nathaniel W. and Sudie Belle Craycraft Gill.

He was a lifelong resident of Summers County, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a retired signal maintainer with 23 years of service with CSX and a member of the Willow Wood Country Club.

Mr. Gill was preceded in death by one grandson, Anthony Adkins; and one sister, Shelby Jean Bailey.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Margaret Raines Gill; one son, Frankie Adkins and his wife, Kim, of Hilldale; three daughters, Karen Sue Adkins of Madam’s Creek, Linda Kay Bennett of Hilldale and Brenda Gay Bragg and her husband, Jerry, of Hinton; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger Gill and his wife, Nancy, of Flat Top and Danny Gill and his wife, Rikki, of Talcott; three sisters, Ruth Farley and her husband Eugene of Grafton, Ohio, Thelma Graham of Hilldale and Mary Edith Davis and her husband Jack of Princeton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Dana Stalnaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Upland cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral parlor.

Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton.

Arthur Gross

Arthur Gross, 52, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005.

Services are pending at Blue Ridge Funeral Chapel in Sophia.

Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 147 Virginia St., Sophia, is serving the Gross family.

Addison Brooke Haney

Addison Brooke Haney, 2 months, of Bolt, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at home.

She was born in Beckley on Sept. 16, 2005, to Michael F. and Amanda Malay Haney.

She was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandmother, Katie Marie Piotrowski; uncle Jack Allen Arrington; aunt, Ethel Virginia Arrington; cousins, Katelyn and Jamie Stump; paternal great-grandparents, William and Bessie Kirk and Elbert and Melissa Haney.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include two brothers, Pete Joseph and Michael Franklin, at home; paternal grandparents, Darrell and Linda Haney of Whitesville; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Eva Yarber of Red Star Road, and Ermel Wriston of Page; maternal great-grandfather Martin William Piotrowski of Lochgelly; aunts and uncles, Diane Haney Williams of Beckley; William Bruce Haney of Comfort, Darrell Haney Jr. of Crab Orchard, Gary Lee Janey of Salisbury, N.C., Rita Janey Morrison of Ashland, Ky., Karen Goins of Kincaid, Joan Yarber of Oak Hill, Ruth White of Wilmington, N.C., Wanda Frye of Fayetteville, John Arrington of Phoenix, Ariz., Frank Arrington of Oak Hill and Everette Arrington of White Sulphur Springs.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with Pastor Jim Elmore officiating. Burial will be in High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Chad Neal and Bruce Haney.

Arrangements are by Tyree Funeral Home of Oak Hill.

NIMITZ — Carl W. Amick, 76, of Nimitz, passed away Saturday afternoon, Dec. 30, 2006, on his farm at Nimitz.
