Genevieve ‘Jenny’ Carol Naylor Elmore

WHIPPLE — Genevieve “Jenny” Carol Naylor Elmore, 74, of Whipple, died on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at her home, following an extended illness.

Born Nov. 12, 1932, at Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Tarlton V. Naylor, Sr., and Iva Hess Naylor.

Mrs. Elmore was a member of the First Baptist Church, Scarbro. She was retired from Roy’s Loans in Oak Hill, and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Raymond Nevel Elmore, and two brothers, Jimmy Naylor and Tarlton “Sonny” Naylor, Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Elmore and wife Karen of Oak Hill and Danny Ray Elmore of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two daughters, Lynn Neumann of Nashville, Tenn., and Rebecca Vento of Dahlgren, Va.; two brothers, Marshall Naylor of Woodbridge, Va., and Charles Thomas “Tommy” Naylor of Westerville, Ohio; three sisters, Violet McConnell of Lake Toxway, N.C., Marian Murray of Portland, Ore., and Madeline Legg Hamilton of Whipple; five grandchildren, Aundrea Ericson, Denise Ward, Benjamin Elmore, Samuel Elmore, and Morgan Elmore; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Bob Creed officiating. Entombment will be at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill.

Friends may call the funeral home on Tuesday one hour prior to the services.

Ida Mae Lilly

ROXBORO, N.C. — Ida Mae Lilly, 79, of Roxboro, N.C., passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006.

Born March 18, 1927, at Riverside, she was the daughter of the late William and Cora Lee Elmore.

She was known as Ida Mae; she was also known for her sweet smile, loving kindness and her love for children.

Ida Mae enjoyed helping those in need, baking cakes, sewing, and fishing. She was involved with the March of Dimes and the Special Olympics. She was of the Methodist Faith and was a member of the Blue Jay Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Ida Mae was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Elmore and James Elmore; and a grandson, Martin Fronske.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Barbara Johnson of Overland Park, Kan., Lynda Tilley and husband, John, of Roxboro, N.C., and Victoria Fronske and husband, John, of Pocatello, Idaho; a son, George E. Lilly, Sr., of Beckley; a sister, Joanna Richmond of Blue Jay; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with Rev. John Salvage officiating with burial to follow.

Perry Vaughn, Russell Pulliam, John Tilley, George Lilly, Jr., John Fronske, and James Moran will be serving as pallbearers.

Donations of sympathy may be made to the Special Olympics.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Lynda, Johnny, Melissa, and Susan for their caring during her illnesses over the past several years.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Ann Smith Longanacre

Elizabeth Ann Smith Longanacre, age 61, of Fort Spring, W.Va., died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Center, Roanoke, Va., following a short illness.

Born Aug. 10, 1945, at Creamery, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John L. and Lillie L. Bowyer Smith.

Mrs. Longanacre was a homemaker. She was a 1963 graduate of Greenville High School and was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Longanacre dearly loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed crocheting.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Fred L. Longanacre, of Fort Spring; two daughters, Lois A. Lephew and her husband, Tommy, of Pickaway, and Vicky L. Humphreys and her companion, Doug Brooks, of Fairlea; a sister, Drema Williams and her husband, Rick, of MacArthur; three brothers, Leroy Smith and his wife, Jean, of Creamery, James Smith, of Creamery, and Blaine Smith and his wife, Cathy, of Wayside; five grandchildren, Adam and John Lephew, of Pickaway, Wayne and Samantha Humphreys, and Kody Brooks, of Fairlea; father-in-law, Fred E. Longanacre, of Fort Spring; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with the Rev. Gary Baker and the Rev. Roy Gwinn officiating. Burial will follow at the Campground cemetery, Creamery. Friends may call today, Jan. 1, 2007, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rusty Hedrick, Johnny Sams, Robert Sams, Bill Hedrick, Herbert Scott and David Miller. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Humphreys, Adam Lephew and John Lephew.

Callyn Maynor, 20, of Beckley, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006.

PINEVILLE — Monica Lynn McConnell, 33, of Pineville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at her residence.

Calfee Funeral Service of Pineville is serving the McConnell family.

Doris Lucille Parker Alexander

OAK HILL — Doris Lucille Parker Alexander, 94, departed her earthly home Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, and entered her heavenly home.

Born Jan. 7, 1912, at Twin Branch, McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late John T. and May Strickler Parker.

Lucille was a 1931 graduate of the Sandy River District High School (Iaeger). She attended Concord College and obtained a Standard Normal Teaching Certificate. Before marrying and moving to Fayette County, she taught school in McDowell County.

She was most of all a loving mother to her children, but she worked as a store clerk and a hospital worker.

Mrs. Alexander was a member of Summerlee Presbyterian Church where she was active in many capacities of the church. In 2000, she was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in the Presbyterian Women.

Gardening, sewing, quilting and reading were what she loved to do. She made many quilts for her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ernest Alexander, on Feb. 4, 1967; a son, James Thomas Alexander, in 1997; her brother, J.W. Parker; and sisters, Edna Turner, Gladys Thomas and Alice Haynes.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. John (Lelia) Grimes of Knoxville, Tenn., Mrs. Robert (Edna) Wriston of Flat Rock, Mich., Mrs. Robert (Sadie) Brash of Hilltop and Ms. Alice Hambrick of Oak Hill; a special son whom she helped raise, Joseph Krawchison of Copper Hill, Va.; a sister, Virginia Calfee of Tampa, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Irene Parker of Welch.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Kathy Smith, Scott Greene, Mike Grimes, Lisa Elswick, Amber Wriston, Eddie Hambrick, James Thomas Alexander, David Alexander and Lisa Arcos; great-grandchildren, Julie Davis, Meredith and Madelyn Grimes, Justin Hambrick, Dylan and Kella Elswick, Chole and Corbin Greene and Shelby Alexander; and a great-great-grandson, Elliott Alexander Davis.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Hill and the Rev. Jerry Bush officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

GLEN FERRIS — Darlene Brown, 68, of Glen Ferris, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Pine Lodge Nursing Home.

Johnny Bryant Sr.

OCEANA — Johnny Bryant Sr. departed this life and entered into eternal rest Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital at the age of 73 years, four months and 24 days with his loving family by his side following a massive stroke.

Born Aug. 9, 1933, in Hurley, Va., he was the son of the late Jarvey and Mary Coleman Bryant.

Johnny was retired from Akko Fasteners Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio, with 15 years of service as a plant manager and roller thread operator. He was of the Baptist faith. Johnny was saved on Feb. 16, 2006. Johnny loved being outdoors operating his enloader, and he took great pride in keeping his lawn neatly mowed, playing his guitar and listening to bluegrass music. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, uncle and dear friend to many. He was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed.

Johnny was preceded in death by his two sons, Thomas Michael Bryant and Kevin Bruce Bryant; and his in-laws, Robert Belcher and Elsie Belcher Smith.

Those left to cherish his memory are the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Norma Belcher Bryant; two sons, Johnny “Jay” Bryant Jr. of Cincinnati and Larry Bryant and his wife, Ida, of Johnson City, Tenn.; two daughters, Ginger Webb and her husband, Doug, of Oceana and Marsha Kennedy and her husband, Steve, of Baileysville; a sister, Virginia Hall of Hurley, Va.; two grandsons, B.J. Webb of Oceana and Kevin Bryant of Florida; a niece, Brenda Hutchinson and her husband, Jerry, of Oceana; sisters-in-law, Jean Smith of Kopperston and Carolyn Gillispie of Foster; special friends, Russ Faulkner of Cincinnati, Lee Zimmerman of Tennessee and Royce Whitt of Wisconsin; and several other dear family and friends.

A celebration of Johnny’s life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. James Walker officiating. Johnny will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Memory at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Casketbearers will be cousins, nephews, and grandsons.

Family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Alda Mae Cox, 49, of 108 Ninth St., Beckley, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at a Fayetteville, N.C., hospital.

Services entrusted to Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.

Martha L. Davis

Martha L. Davis, 75, of Beckley, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.

Born at Cool Ridge on March 22, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Dora Johnson Davis.

Miss Davis was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church at Prosperity.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Grover Davis.

Surviving are her sister, Mary Jarrell and husband, James, of Beckley; brothers, Raymond Davis and wife, Jo, of Garrettsville, Ohio, and Charles Davis and wife, Hilda, of Silver Spring, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Mark Schrade officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday.

Flura Eldridge ‘Brother’ Ennis

MEADOW BRIDGE — Flura Eldridge “Brother” Ennis, 85, of Old Harrah Road, passed away Tuesday evening, Jan. 2, 2007, at home following a long illness.

Born Oct. 17, 1921, he was the son of the late Wallace and Bertie Smith Ennis.

Mr. Ennis was a husband, father, grandfather, miner and logger. He served in the U.S. Army and was of the Holiness faith.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Ennis; a son, Darrell Ennis; four sisters, Myrtle Stevens, Matrue Reynolds, Ethel Ennis and Elsie Ennis; a brother, Myrl Ennis; a grandson, David Ennis II; and a great-grandson, Cody Ennis.

Survivors include a son, David Ennis and wife, Anita, of Maplewood; a daughter, Linda Adkins and fiancé, Bill, of Meadow Bridge; a sister, Macel Necessary of Beckley; five grandchildren, Melinda Lester and husband, Tommy, of Landisburg, Kimberly Ennis of Danese, Joseph Ennis of Maplewood, Angel Williams and fiancé, Steven Lilly, of Meadow Bridge and Patrick Cool of Meadow Bridge; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle. Burial will follow at Elton cemetery.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
