Billy F. Chambers Jr.

Billy F. Chambers Jr., 48, of the Friendly View section of Dry Creek, passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at his home after a long illness.

He was born April 14, 1958, at Luthren Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Billy F. and Hazel Cottrell Chambers Sr.; a grandfather, Daniel Wheeler, and a niece, Shawknee Alderman.

Survivors include his loving companion of 15 years, Orpha “Tiny” Ward and her two sons, Mark and Jay and families. Grandmother, Delena Wheeler of Nebo, W.Va.; two sisters, Marilyn Chambers and daughter, Kelly of Clay County and Virginia “Jeannie” and her husband, Dwight Davis of Wooster, Ohio; two nephews, Ronnie and wife, Tina Williams and D.J. and wife, Leslie Williams, all of Naoma; several great nephews and nieces, aunts and uncles. He will be sadly missed by the family and friends especially by his nephew, Ronnie and dear friends, Wesley Scarbrough of Rock Creek and Bill Barker of Orgas.

A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. today at Naoma Freewill Baptist Church, Naoma, with the Rev. Charles Tilly officiating.

Mr. Chamber’s request was to be cremated.

Teddy ‘Poppy’ Cline

BAISDEN — Teddy “Poppy” Cline, 68, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church, Baisden.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert.

Tony Dominick Jr.

HERNDON HEIGHTS — Tony Dominick Jr., 72, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at his residence following a long illness.

Born July 3, 1934, at Alpoca, he was the son of the late Tony and Rosie Georgia Fish Dominick.

Mr. Dominick was formerly employed in the timber and sawmill industries. In his leisure, he enjoyed riding and trading horses and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parent, he is also preceded in death by two sisters, “Little Mary” Dominick and Josephine Dominick; a niece, Lambert; and two brothers, Sam and Vince Dominick.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 42 years, Peggy McKinney Dominick; a daughter, Kathy Lynn Forbes and her husband, Jeffrey, of Glen Daniel; a very special granddaughter, “his pride and joy” Samantha Forbes of Glen Daniel; two sisters, Mary O’Neal and her husband, Junior of Alpoca, and Edith Williams and her husband, David of Itmann; two sisters-in-law, Janice Dominick of Alpoca and Joan Dominick of Wolfpen; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and burial will be 12 noon Wednesday at Hickory Ridge cemetery on Bud Mountain, with the Rev. Larry England officiating.

Friends may call 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Charles L. Hall

MATHENY — Charles L. Hall, 45, passed away Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at his residence.

Born Oct. 8, 1961, in McDowell County, he was the son of Roy Hall Jr. and Linnie Belle Morgan Hall of Oceana.

Mr. Hall was of the Pentecostal faith. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, listening to music, and being with family and friends.

A brother, Roger Hall and a sister, Dorothy Myers, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Evans Hall; a son, Charles Joseph Hall and his wife, Darci of Davidson, Mich.; four brothers, Larry Hall of Ohio, Timmy Hall of Matheny, Chris Hall of Crouches Farm, and Curtis Hall of Morgantown; and two sisters, Sherry Ann Johnson of Oceana, and Sharon Kay Rollins of Kopperston.

Service will be 2 p.m. today, Dec. 19, 2006, at the Evans Memorial Chapel with the Rev. E.J. Morgan officiating. Entombment will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of the service today at the funeral home.

Lana L. Hickman

LEWISBURG — Lana L. Hickman, 59, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006.

Memorial service will be 8 p.m. Thursday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the memorial service.

Theodore Martin

Theodore Martin of Beckley, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at his residence.

Edith Daniels Miller

Edith Daniels Miller, 81, of Lester, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, in Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Calfee Funeral Service of Pineville is serving the family.

Drewey E. ‘Sonny’ Mullens

Drewey E. “Sonny” Mullens, 71, of 111 Fulton Avenue, Beckley, died Saturday, December 16, 2006, at the Princeton Community Hospital, following a short illness.

Born at Maple Meadow on February 11, 1935, he was the son of the late Ora Richardson Mullens and Rev. Ezra Mullens.

Drewey was a graduate of Trap Hill High School, and spent 10 years in the Air Force. After discharge from service he began working at Lockheed Martin as an aircraft mechanic. He spent the last four years of employment with Lockheed working in Saudia Arabia. After retirement from Lockheed, he began working at the Raleigh County Memorial Airport in 1978 until 1997 as a flight line supervisor.

Survivors include a son, James K. Mullens of Bolt; a daughter, Nancy Wallace of Morrow, Ga.; a brother, Kermit Mullens of Maple Meadow; and three sisters, Imogene Kerschner and husband Gary of Beckley, Marsha Morgan and husband Onnie of Charleston, and Betty Grubb and husband Bill of Tennessee.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with Pastor Don Pflegar officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to services.

Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Gladys Mae Bowman Phelps

Gladys Mae Bowman Phelps, 83, of Eccles, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at Willow Bay Personal Care Home in Oak Hill.

Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope.

Hans ‘Freddy’ Shortridge

SUMMERSVILLE — Hans “Freddy” Shortridge, 66, of 908 Main St., Summersville, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

White Funeral Home, Summersville is in charge of the arrangements.

Roy Pierce Simmons

CRAIGSVILLE — Roy Pierce Simmons, 82 years and five months of Craigsville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006 at Summersville Memorial Hospital, Summersville, after a short illness.

He entered the Marine Corp. at Paris Island and was discharged from San Diego, Calif., veteran of World War II.

He survived the invasion of Iwo Jima and recipient of the Purple Heart. He was lifetime member of Hick-Hambrick Marine Corps League and was active in organization of young Marines.

Active in VFW, Craigsville, retired from Sewell Coal Company as a superintendent, member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Craigsville, member of Hillsboro International Order of the Odd Fellows, member of Richwood Moose Lodge and an admiral of Cherry River Navy, Richwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Bessie Boggs Simmons and a brother, Jordan Simmons.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Roberts Simmons of Craigsville; two brothers, Paul and wife, Nila Simmons of Hillsboro, and Claude and wife, Sandy Simmons of Craigsville; a sister, Anita and husband, Albert Rodebaugh of Craigsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Craigsville with the Rev. Steve Hamrick. Entombment will be in West Virginia Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Calvin.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Craigsville.

In lieu of flowers send donations to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 710, Craigsville, WV, 26205.

SUMMERSVILLE — Claueette Sparks, 64, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006 at ARH of Beckley.

LANDVILLE — Mary Stamper, 101, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at Greensbranch Freewill Baptist Church at Man.

William Earnest Wisen

William Earnest Wisen, of Mabscott Hill and Helen, passed away in his sleep Sunday morning, December 17, 2006, at the Beckley VA Hospital.

William Wisen was born in Salzburg, Pa. of a poor Mennonite family and was one of 16 children.

His father was a Mennonite poultry farmer and his mother was Amish. His parents had immigrated from Germany because of lack of religious freedom.

Mr. Wisen enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1941 and was stationed at Camp Le Jeune, NC and the Philippines. He served for four years and was honorably discharged as a Master Sargent.

Following his military experience, he worked in the coal mines in southern West Virginia as a miner and then as a General Mine Foreman for Eastern Gas and Fuel Company. He was named ‘Running Bear’ in the mine community because of his fast moving ability and concern for others in the mines. He retired from the mines 20 years ago and was a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Club, and VFW. Mr. Wisen raised a family of 11 children with his wife, the late Myrtle Faye Cox Wisen.

He is survived by his 11 children: his six daughters, Anne Viscarro, Mary K. Simpson, and Florence A. Lively, all of Durham, NC, Billie Faye Yager of Atlanta, Ga. and Brevard, NC, Bonnie E. McPeake of Pinehurst, NC, and Judith Ray of Lake Park, Ga.; five sons, William Gaston Wisen of Lake Park, Ga., Earnest Don Wisen, Richard Lee Wisen, and Frederick A. Wisen, all of Beckley, and William E. Wisen, Jr. of Durham, NC; 26 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; special friend and caretaker, Beulah N. Bowers of Helen and her children, Franklin Bowers, Geneva M. Cruey, Gary L. Bowers, James P. Bowers, and Dwight D. Bowers; and many friends and acquaintances also survive.

Mr. Wisen wishes were to donate his body to the Duke University Medical School, Durham, N.C. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Chaplin James Trader officiating.

Friends called at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of William E. Wisen to the American Cancer Society, Charleston, WV Office, 301 RHL Blvd., Suit 6 & 7, Charleston, WV, 25309.
