Paul Ernest Wills

NAOMA — Paul Ernest Wills, 70, died Thursday, April 19, 2007, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following a long illness.

George Oliver Zickafoose

DANESE — George Oliver Zickafoose, 84, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, following a short illness.

Born March 18, 1923, in Landisburg, he was the son of the late Benjamin McDonald and Virginia Frances Berry Zickafoose.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having also been preceded in death by a special nephew, Herb Zickafoose, and a son, Mark Zickafoose.

A retired coal miner, having worked for Westmoreland Coal Co. for 44 years, he was also a farmer, and had worked at the Kaiser Shipyards during World War II. He was a member of the UMWA, and was known as one of the Clifftop Seven, who were instrumental in starting the black lung movement for all coal miners. He was one of the founders of the Danese Public Service District.

Mr. Zickafoose was a member of the Zickafoose Memorial Church, a member of the Zickafoose Quartet in which he sang bass, and was past President of the Fayette County Singing Convention. He loved life, most of all the Lord, his church family and community, and dedicated his life to helping others.

Survivors include a daughter, Jill Sisk and her husband, Roy, of Danese; five sons, Mike and his wife, Betty, of Bristol, Tenn., David and his wife, Beatrice, of Rosamond, Calif., Douglas and his wife, Carol, of Oak Hill, Tim and his fiancée, Nancy, of Fairmont and Greg of Beckley; grandchildren, Michael, Deanna, Donnie, Debbie, Stephanie, Jenny, Matt, Andy, Brian, Bradley, Leslie, Chad, and Sara; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Jack Reaves officiating. Burial will follow in the Zickafoose-Shuck cemetery at Danese.

Robert Warren Burnett

Robert Warren (Robbie) Burnett, 34, of Forest Hill Road, Hinton, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday Dec. 2, 2006, at his home, following a long illness.

Born Sept. 7, 1972, in Hinton, he was the son of Willa Richmond Burnett of Forest Hill Road and the late James Burnett.

Robbie was a graduate of Summers County High School and was of the Baptist faith. He had lived his entire life in Summers County.

Besides his mother, other survivors include two brothers, Larry Burnett and wife Jo Ann of Narrows, Va., and Jimmy Burnett of Forest Hill Road. Three sisters, Connie Burnett of Forest Hill, Donna Sue Wolfe and husband Seldon of Covington, Va., and Floretta Terry and husband Bruce of Chesapeake, Ohio. Very special nephew and niece, Scott Burnett and Rachael Terry. Two nephews, Jay and Tim Cales, and special friends, David Richmond, Scott Garten, and Heather McKinney. Several great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Bill Fox officiating. Burial will be in the Richmond cemetery at Sandstone.

Friends may call from 12:00 noon until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Sharon Lynn Fitzwater

GRASSY MEADOWS — Sharon Lynn Fitzwater, 41, of Grassy Meadows, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at Glenville, following a sudden illness.

Born June 26, 1965, at Radford, Va., she was a daughter of the late Julia Fair Buckland, and Samuel Delvon Lowry of Grassy Meadows.

She was a homemaker.

Other than her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Diane Boggess.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Eugene Fitzwater of Grassy Meadows; father, Samuel Delvon Lowry of Grassy Meadows; two sisters, Audrey Zickafoose of Grassy Meadows and Carol Lowry of Lewisburg; and a brother, James Delvon Lowry of Christiansburg, Va.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wallace and Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Rev. Gay Stover officiating. Burial will follow at McElhenney cemetery, Grassy Meadows.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Connie K. Love

SUMMERSVILLE — Connie K. Love, 58, of Summersville, died Saturday evening, Dec. 2, 2006.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Nebo Baptist Church at Nebo. Friends may call at the Waters Funeral Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. this evening.

Edwin Ray Shupe

Edwin Ray Shupe, 87, of 1012 Terrace St., Hinton, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, in Summers County A.R.H., following a long illness.

Frank Robert Wade Jr.

Frank Robert Wade, Jr., 69, of Beckley, formerly of Saulsville, was peacefully called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at the home of his daughter in Beckley after an extended illness.

Born in Big Stone Gap, Va., on Feb. 5, 1937, he was the son of the late Frank Robert Wade and Virginia Mae Dillon Wade O’Neal.

He is now reunited with his loving wife of 45 years, Priscilla Hope Wade, who preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 2006.

Frank and his wife, Priscilla, were the owners of Wade’s Gifts previously located in the Raleigh Mall, after his retirement from the Wyoming County Board of Education. Frank was a member of the Glen Fork Baptist Temple, a member of Beckley Lodge #95 A.F. & A.M., Royal Arch Mason Chapter #38, a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed meeting people and being around his loving family and friends. One of his favorite pastimes was bass fishing, and he had no greater joy than teaching his little buddy to fish.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving daughters, Deborah “Debbie” Dalton and her husband, Steven D., with whom he made his home, Demetra “Dee” Mullins and her husband Layne of Mt. Sterling, KY; grandchildren, Tiffany Bailey of Beckley, and Ryan A. Mullins (his little buddy) of Mt. Sterling, stepgrandson, Jason Dalton, great-granddaughters, Kaytlynne Hope and Destiny Faith, stepgreat-granddaughter, Briauna Paige, all of Beckley; brother, Sterling “Buddy” Wade and his wife Pat of Rising Sun, Md.; and a sister, Ann Lawson and her husband Jerry of Colora, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family of Frank (Junior) would like to thank Hospice of Southern WV, Inc., for their kind and compassionate help and service during the sickness and death of their loved one.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Prosperity, with Pastor Craig Stevens officiating. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell, at 2:00 p.m., also on Wednesday, with Military Rites by Mercer County Veterans Council and Masonic Rites by Beckley Lodge #95 A.F. & A. M.

Family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Blue Ridge Funeral Home.

Arrangements are in the care of Elk Funeral Home, Charleston, WV.

Zackary ‘Zack’ Worthington

FAYETTEVILLE — Zackary Christopher “Zack” Worthington, 30, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006.

Born on Oct. 29, 1976, at Beckley, he was the son of Susan Kolar Worthington of Munster, Ind., and Gene Worthington and Karen Vuranch of Fayetteville.

Zack was a graduate of Oak Hill High School and the Fayette Plateau Vo-Tech Center at Oak Hill in 1995. He was employed at the Bob Evans in Fayetteville. He enjoyed hunting and umpiring for the Fayetteville Little League and often refereed at local wresting matches.

Besides his parents, those left to cherish his memory include his 7-year-old daughter, Whitney Faith Worthington of Fayetteville; brother, Colin Worthington and wife Nicole, of Villa Rica, GA; nephew, Liam Worthington of Villa Rica, GA; brother, Andrew “Andy” Worthington and wife, Amanda, of Beckley; grandmother, Jane Kolar of Munster, IN; special friend, Diana Bandy of Fayetteville; and a host of relatives and special friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Father Roy Crist officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Whitney Faith Worthington College Fund, c/o The Fayette County National Bank, Court and Maple Avenue, Fayetteville, WV 25840.

Mary Virginia Briers

HINTON – Mary Virginia Briers, 92, of 210 Miller Ave., expired at 1:45 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at home following an extended illness.

Born Nov. 10, 1913, at Ansted, she was the daughter of the late Virgil H. and Myrtle B. Neal Long. She was a loving, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and known for her beautiful roses. She was a member of the Miller Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher as long as health permitted.

Besides her parents, and a teenage brother, James, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles S. Briers Sr. in November of 1996; a son-in-law, Jack A. Richmond in December of 1997; and a great-grandson, Christopher Neil Briers in 1990.

Survivors include two sons, Scott Briers and wife, Emily of Hinton, and Thomas Briers and wife, Joyce of Bonita Springs, Fla.; daughter, Nancy Neal Richmond of Hinton; six grandchildren, Gregory Briers and wife, Kelly of Huntington, Jeffrey Neil Briers and wife, Carolyn of Oak Hill, Susan Briers Boland and husband, Mitch of Shady Spring, Maj. Jack J. Richmond and wife, Angela of Scott Depot, Michael T. Briers and wife, Chandra of Shanghai, China and Rachael Briers Bell and husband, of Fort Myers, Fla.; 14 great-grandchildren, Grant and Delaney Briers of Huntington, Sam Walters and wife, Candy of Welcome, N.C., Heather Shannon of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Amy and Aaron Briers of Oak Hill, Casey, Elyse and Allyson Boland of Shady Spring, Hunter Scott Richmond of Scott Depot, Mary Beth and John Michael Briers of Shanghai, China, Charlie and Jack Bell of Fort Myers, Fla.; one great-great-granddaughter, Sarah Walters; two nephews, Robert Myers and wife, Marie and Terry Briers and wife, Janie of Talcott; devoted caregivers, Pat Woodrum, Betty Fox, Jeanie Cales, Jean Houchins, Judy Fortner and Minnie Rudisill.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Eugene Fullen and Dr. James M. Rice who will serve the family. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Burial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral parlors and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Grandsons, Max Cale and Alan Harvey will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations of sympathy to be made to Hospice of Southern WV, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802.

Larry Eugene Darby

WHITESVILLE – Larry Eugene Darby, 66, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Beckley, after a long illness.

Born Aug. 22, 1939, at Ameagle, he was a son of the late Enoch and Carrie Bailey Darby.

Mr. Darby was a member of the Whitesville Moose Lodge, and served in the US Army in the 101st Air Born e during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by FMC until he became disabled.

He is survived by his wife, Lorena Averson Darby; two sons, Billy Green and his wife, Meldena of Oak Hill, and Ricky Green and his companion, Neysa of Whitesville; three daughters, Ada Morris and her husband, Freddie, Dreama Hannah and her husband, Frank, and Kathy Peters and her husband, Danny, all of Whitesville; a sister, Phyliss Hurst of Bradenton, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be noon Thursday at Valley Funeral Home Chapel, Whitesville. Entombment will follow in Pineview Mausoleum, Orgas, with military rites being provided by Madison VFW.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

OCEANA – Nyrmal Ann Daughtery, 3, departed this life Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at CAMC Women and Children Division.

Services entrusted to the Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Edmond P. Fields

FAYETTEVILLE – Edmond P. Fields, 87, formerly of Chester, WV, passed away on Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at Hilltop Nursing Home in Fayette County, following a long illness.

Born Oct. 28, 1918, at Walton, WV, he was the son of the late James Robert and Iva Jones Fields.

Mr. Fields served in the US Army during World War II and retired from Crucible Steel in 1980 after 38 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, having coffee each morning with his retired buddies, and most of all reading his Bible daily. He attended the Chester Church of the Nazarene.

A son, Gary Fields; four sisters, and one brother, preceded Mr. Fields in death.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 61 years, Lillian Fields of Fayetteville; a daughter, Marilyn Payne and husband, Dale, also of Fayetteville; two sons, Larry Fields and wife, Judy of Columbus, Ohio, and Dave Fields and wife, Sabrina of Whitesville; a brother, Gay Fields of Coolville, Ohio; a sister, Atlene Litton of Post Falls, Idaho; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, with the Rev. Tim Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Hill cemetery, Chester.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
