MARIANNA — Bertha M. Smith Brooks, 49, died Sunday, June 25, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Evans Funeral Home, Oceana, is serving the Brooks family.

Lelia Clementine Dancy

LEWISBURG — Lelia Clementine Dancy, 82, passed away Monday, June 26, 2006.

Born Jan. 16, 1924, at Lookout, she was the daughter of the late George Reese and Matilda Katherine Wheeler Walker.

Mrs. Dancy was a homemaker and a member of Lewisburg United Methodist Church and past treasurer of the Heritage Club of Lewisburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Calvin Warren Dancy, in 2001; a sister, Leah Smith; and three brothers, Lonnie, Leslie and Jarrell Walker.

She is survived by a son, Larry W. Dancy and wife, Rosemary, of Chesterfield, Va.; two granddaughters, Laura Brewer and husband, Brad, of Roanoke, Va., and Heather Gary and husband, Tim, of Lubbock, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ethan and Katie Marie; five sisters, Lucille Shannon and her husband, Glenn, of Rainelle, Louise Bragg and her husband, Jim, of Nettie, Beatrice Dorsey of Nettie, Helen Bevins and her husband, Lee, of Hinesville, Ga., and Hilda Copen and her husband, Gary, of Belleglade, Fla.; and three brothers, Bernard Walker and his wife, Barbara, of Jacksonville, N.C., Darrell Walker and his wife, Georgia, of Covington, Va., and Basil Walker and his wife, Patty, of Roanoke.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Lewisburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joseph S. Kenaston and the Rev. Elizabeth Yost officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial cemetery, Lewisburg.

Friends and family are invited for viewing 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg.

Lottie Edna Dowdy

RONCEVERTE — Lottie Edna Dowdy, 94, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, in Greenbrier Manor Nursing Home, Fairlea, after a long illness.

Born Jan. 5, 1912, at Ronceverte, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Rufina Bennett McDowell Dodd.

Mrs. Dowdy was a lifelong resident of Ronceverte, a member of Salem Presbyterian Church at Organ Cave and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Dowdy; a son, Emmett Dowdy, in 1957; and a grandson, Jamie Massey.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Mitchem and her husband, C.R., of Ronceverte and Geneva Mann and her husband, Johnny, of Ronceverte; a son, Elvin Dowdy of White Sulphur Springs; a sister, Kathleen Fridley of Ronceverte; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Salem Presbyterian Church cemetery, Organ Cave, with the Rev. Gary Baker officiating.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Longanacre Funeral Home, Fairlea.

John ‘Peanie’ Bullick

John “Peanie” Bullick, of Maxwell Hill Road, Beckley, formerly of Eccles, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, two days prior to his 91st birthday.

Born on Dec. 23, 1915, in Kingston, he was the son of the late Dock and Antonia Bullick.

Mr. Bullick graduated from Trap Hill High School where he enjoyed playing football and basketball. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII serving as an MP in North Africa, Sicily and Italy; he was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He was retired from the coal industry and a member of the UMWA Local 5770. Mr. Bullick loved gardening, the Mountaineers and his beloved bulldog “Butchie Boy.”

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Egich and Mary Strimel, and an infant brother.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ines Goosky Bullick; a son, John Bullick of Beckley; two daughters, Sherrie Barr and husband Danny of Sophia and Linda Bullick of Beckley; two grandchildren, Tara Barr and Gary Bullick; a niece, Mary Ann Farmer; and a nephew, Donald Lee Strimel.

There will be no services. According to Mr. Bullick’s wishes he will be cremated.

The family request that donations of sympathy be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1115, Dunbar, WV 25064, or to your favorite charity.

Patty Annalee Daniel

Patty Annalee Daniel passed away Nov. 6, 2006, at her home in Alexandria, Va. She was born Jan. 3, 1941, at Bolt, a beloved daughter of Elson and Alice Milam Daniel, who preceded her in death.

Survived by a brother, Gerald of Knoxville, Tenn.; three sisters, Dolores of Kettering, Ohio, Ernestine of West Carrollton, Ohio, and Nancy of Herndon, Va.; nieces, Vicki and Karen of Nashville, Tenn., Lisa Johnson and Laurie Byrd of Virginia; three nephews, Kevin of Kingston, Tenn., James Daniel of Bolt, and Craig Wiley of Baltimore, Md.; and two great-nieces and three great-nephews.

Patty graduated from Trap Hill High School and then moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she attended Miami Jacobs College. She was employed by Master Electric Company and by Dayco Corporation. She later moved to Washington, D.C., for a career with the Federal Government. While employed by the National Science Foundation, she had the rare opportunity to visit the South Pole while spending two months in Antarctica. She later was stationed at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, for one year, while with the State Department. She worked for the National Security Council during the terms of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and the first term of President Clinton. She retired in 1996 after 25 years of Government service.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 9, 2006, in Fairfax, Va., with the Rev. R. Rowley, Messiah United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum C, Beckley, on Nov. 11, 2006.

Heather Virginia Hamilton

GLEN MORGAN — Heather Virginia Hamilton, 29, of Glen Morgan, was called into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006.

Born Feb. 23, 1977, in Raleigh County, she was the daughter of Darrell Hamilton, and the late Kathy Hamilton of Glen Morgan.

Heather was of the Baptist faith and as a member of the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church: Heather spent Tuesdays quilting with the ladies and enjoying special fellowship with the women’s circle.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathy Lynn Hamilton; her paternal great-great-grandparents, John H. Hamilton and Hazel Gibson Hamilton, Alpha Stull and Ella Hoalcraft; paternal grandparents, Virgil and Margaret Ann Hamilton; maternal great-great-grandparents, Barton and Marietta Rock; great-grandparents, Carl and Rose Treadway; and an uncle, Melbourne Burke.

Survivors include her father, Darrell Hamilton of Glen Morgan; her fiance, Jerry Farmer of Crab Orchard; maternal grandparents, Billy and Luella Rock of Beaver; uncles, Mike Hamilton and wife Linda of West Union, J.B. Hamilton and wife Diana of Cool Ridge, Ricky Hamilton and wife Linda of West Union, “Buster” Rock and companion Sherry of Beckley, Tim Rock and wife Dina of Cool Ridge, and John Rock and wife Michelle of Beaver; aunts, Rosemary Staats and husband Bobby of Cool Ridge and Glenna Kirk and fiance Mark Dempsey of Glen Morgan; cousins, Steve Hamilton, Ricky Lee Hamilton, Timmy Hamilton, Garrett Rock, Tim Rock, II, John Rock, Adam Rock, Joseph Staats, Seth Moore, Gavin Plumley, Bryce Rock, Kimberly Gwinn, Deborah Staats, Jennifer Hash, Krystal Rock, Emily Farley, Brianna Hash, McKenzye Rock, Dakota Rock, Shane Holt, and Tiffany Hamilton; extended family, Marrietta Ellingwood, Mary Rock, and Diane Wyatt; and best friends, Adrian, Tommy, and Carla.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church, Glen Morgan, with Rev. Grayson Lilly officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Visitation for family will begin at 10 a.m.; visitation for friends will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Mark E. Miller

Mark E. Miller, 69, died Dec. 21, 2006.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Haisley Funeral Home. A service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Virginia Lee Morris

Virginia Lee Morris, 79, of Evans Street, Beckley, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at her home surrounded by her loving family, following a short illness.

Born at Pax on Sept. 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late James and Annie Wood Evans.

Mrs. Morris was a homemaker, and a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church at Sweeneysburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Latell Morris.

Survivors include her sons, Larry Morris and wife Donna of Beckley and Wayne Morris and wife LaVerne of White Sulphur Springs; a daughter, Lesa Hunt of Beckley; three sisters, Sadie Watson of Akron, Ohio, Hazel Bossert of Akron, Ohio, and Stella Lively of Beckley; grandchildren, Craig Morris and wife Meredith, Mitchelle Coleman and husband Phillip, Keith Morris, April Brooks and husband Andy, and Matthew and Kristina Hunt; and great-grandchildren, Summer Lynn, Justin, Britney, Jeffrey, and Jason.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, with Pastor Gary Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Friends may call one hour prior to services.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Dr. William H. Perrine

FAIRLEA — Dr. William H. “Bill” Perrine, 75, of Fairlea, peacefully went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Dec. 22, 2006, at his home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Born on Nov. 1, 1931, in Richwood, Bill was the son of the late Howard Homer Perrine and Iva Bays (Boone).

He is survived by Shirley R. Perrine, his wife of 51 years, also originally from Richwood; his four daughters, Alinda Perrine, her husband Robert A. Guet, Jeanne Perrine-Neal, her husband Terry Neal, Susan Bagwell, and Jennifer Dent, her husband David D. Dent; his two sons, William Perrine and J.B. Perrine; six grandchildren, Noel Bagwell, III, Holly Bagwell, Autumn Bagwell, Nicholas Dent, Walker Dent, and Chloe Ellis.

Dr. Perrine graduated from Richwood High School in 1949, the West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1955, and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1959. He first practiced optometry in Marlinton in 1959, moved to Lewisburg in 1961, and continued practicing for 47 years with offices in Lewisburg, Marlinton, Union, and Hinton. In addition to being an optometrist, he was an accomplished entrepreneur whose business interests included real estate development and helping the hearing impaired. He was a Deacon of First Baptist Church, Fairlea, and a member of the International Hearing Society. Above all, Bill loved to spend time with his family. He was an avid traveler, sportsman, and a congenial friend to many. His philanthropic interests included his church, WV Baptist Camp Cowen, and Mutual Improvement Club of Ronceverte (MIC). Bill always stressed the importance of education and financed the college and post-graduate degrees of his children as well as others.

Surviving siblings are Betty Jo Austin, her husband O. Gene Austin, Donald L. Perrine, married to the late Charlotte Perrine, Katherine C. D’Ambrosio, her husband Joseph F. D’Ambrosio, Judith A. Wade, and her husband George A. Wade.

One brother, Gerald L. Perrine, married to Doris Perrine, preceded him in death.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Fairlea, with Rev. Kevin Prevett and Rev. Ronald L. Stoner officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home.

Iva Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Bland

Iva Gertrude “Trudy” Bland, 91, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at the NHC Nursing Facility, at Sumter, S.C., following a long illness.

Arrangements are incomplete at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.

FAYETTEVILLE — Ruth Lea Martin Carl, 81, of Fayetteville, Rt. 1, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at the home of a caregiver on Gatewood Road.

GILBERT — Verlo Christian, 67, of Gilbert, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2006.

RICH CREEK, Va. — Gregory Riggins Eaton, of Rich Creek, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 21, 2006.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until time of services Tuesday.
