Heather Virginia Hamilton

GLEN MORGAN — Heather Virginia Hamilton, 29, of Glen Morgan, was called into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006.

Born Feb. 23, 1977, in Raleigh County, she was the daughter of Darrell Hamilton, and the late Kathy Hamilton of Glen Morgan.

Heather was of the Baptist faith and as a member of the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church: Heather spent Tuesdays quilting with the ladies and enjoying special fellowship with the women’s circle.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathy Lynn Hamilton; her paternal great-great-grandparents, John H. Hamilton and Hazel Gibson Hamilton, Alpha Stull and Ella Hoalcraft; paternal grandparents, Virgil and Margaret Ann Hamilton; maternal great-great-grandparents, Barton and Marietta Rock; great-grandparents, Carl and Rose Treadway; and an uncle, Melbourne Burke.

Survivors include her father, Darrell Hamilton of Glen Morgan; her fiance, Jerry Farmer of Crab Orchard; maternal grandparents, Billy and Luella Rock of Beaver; uncles, Mike Hamilton and wife Linda of West Union, J.B. Hamilton and wife Diana of Cool Ridge, Ricky Hamilton and wife Linda of West Union, “Buster” Rock and companion Sherry of Beckley, Tim Rock and wife Dina of Cool Ridge, and John Rock and wife Michelle of Beaver; aunts, Rosemary Staats and husband Bobby of Cool Ridge and Glenna Kirk and fiance Mark Dempsey of Glen Morgan; cousins, Steve Hamilton, Ricky Lee Hamilton, Timmy Hamilton, Garrett Rock, Tim Rock, II, John Rock, Adam Rock, Joseph Staats, Seth Moore, Gavin Plumley, Bryce Rock, Kimberly Gwinn, Deborah Staats, Jennifer Hash, Krystal Rock, Emily Farley, Brianna Hash, McKenzye Rock, Dakota Rock, Shane Holt, and Tiffany Hamilton; extended family, Marrietta Ellingwood, Mary Rock, and Diane Wyatt; and best friends, Adrian, Tommy, and Carla.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church, Glen Morgan, with Rev. Grayson Lilly officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Visitation for family will begin at 10 a.m.; visitation for friends will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Chester Lloyd

RICHWOOD — Chester Lloyd, 88, of Richwood, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 22, 2006, at home.

Dr. George Francis Moore

ATHENS — Dr. George Francis Moore, 83, of 404 Plymouth St. in Athens, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at his residence.

Born in Monticello, New York, Feb. 17, 1923, he was the son of the late Frank and Minnie A. Grote-Moore.

Prior to his retirement in 1987, Professor Moore taught Political Science at Concord College for thirty-five years. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of The Heavenly Rest in Princeton and the Athens Lions Club. During World War ll Dr. Moore served in the United States Army.

His wife, Mary Louise Eddins-Moore, preceded him in death.

Survivors include five daughters, Lynne Callahan and her husband Griffin of Itmann, WV, Bobbie Sue Hurt and her husband Jerry of Galveston, TX, Catherine Moore of Whiteriver, AZ, Dr. Sarah Whittaker and her husband Ed of Princeton and Mary Frances Pitotti and her husband Tom of Winchester, VA. Nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the Episcopal Church of The Heavenly Rest in Princeton with Rev. Bill Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Griffin Callahan, Jerry Hurt, Thomas Pitotti, Edward L. Whittaker, Edward L. Whittaker, ll, David G. Whittaker and Andrew T. Whittaker.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. However, friends may visit the family at the Moore home, 404 Plymouth St. in Athens, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the George F. Moore Scholarship Fund, Concord University, College Box 83, Athens, WV 24712.

Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Lee Morris

Virginia Lee Morris, 79, of Evans Street, Beckley, went home to be with her Lord Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at her home surrounded by her loving family, following a short illness.

Born at Pax on Sept. 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late James and Annie Wood Evans.

Mrs. Morris was a homemaker, and a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church at Sweeneysburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Latell Morris.

Survivors include her sons, Larry Morris and wife Donna of Beckley and Wayne Morris and wife La-Verne of White Sulphur Springs; a daughter, Lesa Hunt of Beckley; three sisters, Sa-die Watson of Ak-ron, Ohio, Hazel Bossert of Akron, Ohio, and Stella Lively of Beckley; grandchildren, Craig Morris and wife Meredith, Mitchelle Coleman and husband Phillip, Keith Morris, April Brooks and husband Andy, and Matthew and Kristina Hunt; and great grandchildren, Summer Lynn, Justin, Britney, Jeffrey, and Jason.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, with Pastor Gary Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Friends may call one hour prior to services.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Johnny W. Murray

Johnny W. Murray, 58, died Dec. 23, 2006, after a long illness.

He was born May 14, 1948, at Arnett. He was a loving husband to his wife, Diana Murray. He was an avid baseball fan with a great passion for the Atlanta Braves.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Todd and Butch Murray, both of Charleston. He is also survived by loving in-laws which he considered brothers and sisters, along with great-nieces and nephews that gave him much joy, Tyler, Hailey, and Izzy; two little buddies, Nathaniel and John Dickens. He had a special love for Kady, which he nicknamed “Sugar Buger.”

Graveside services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in the Pineview cemetery, Orgas, with the Rev. Jerry Pauley officiating. Interment will follow.

There will be no visitation.

Armstrong Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Glenath Geraldine Nevi

WAR — Glenath Geraldine Nevi, age 77, of War, departed this world with her family at her side Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at her home.

Born Jan. 23, 1929, at Yukon, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Delia Christian Altizer.

She was a member of the Mountaintop Baptist Church in Welch.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Victor M. Nevi; two sisters, Lula Blevins and Nellie Wood; one brother, Homer Altizer.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Nevi and wife, Brenda, of War, WV, and Dickie Nevi and wife, Linda, of Cool Ridge, WV; four grandchildren, Jessica, Jaron, Shaun, and Kristy; one sister, Margaret Barrett and husband, Gene, of War, WV; one brother, Dennis Altizer and wife, Drema, of Coalwood, WV; sister-in-law, Veronica Glassco of Waco, TX; brother-in-law, Jimmy Neve and wife, Katy, of Filbert, WV; nephew, Jerry Wood and wife, Jeanette, of Tazewell, VA; niece, Dr. Melody Altizer of Morgantown, WV; great-nephews, the Rev. Jared Wood of Elizabethton, TN, and Justin Wood of Nashville, TN.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA, with the Rev. Jared Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.

Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. and Mrs. Eduardo Tolosa and Priscilla Davidson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006.

Billy Ray Shortland

CYNTHIANA, Ky. — Billy Ray Shortland, 76, a resident of Grand Haven Nursing Home in Cynthiana, Ky., formerly of Sandstone, W.Va., died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ware Funeral Home in Cynthiana, Ky. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Susan E. Summerfield

MACARTHUR — Susan Elizabeth Jane Lee Summerfield, 88, of MacArthur, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at CAMC General Division.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin Lee West

PRUDENCE — Melvin Lee West, 59, of Prudence, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Family cemetery, Greentown.

Gladys M. Persinger

RAINELLE — Gladys Minnie Persinger, 68, of Rainelle, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, in the Heartland of Rainelle, following a long illness.

Ohlan N. Sears

CROZET, Va. — Ohlan N. Sears, 88, of Crozet, Va., formerly of Big Mountain at Quinwood, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at his home, following a long illness.

Born Dec. 24, 1917, at Carl, he was a son of the late Huey B. and Catherine Burkholder Sears.

Mr. Sears was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and had been a coal miner. He also worked on an assembly line, and on road construction.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, William Jennings Shawver and Larry Gene Sears; five sisters, Gertie Dotson, Becky Hellems, Rosie Neal, Maggie Hellems, and Lena Redden; and by a brother, Albert B. Sears.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Eleanor McCutcheon Sears of Crozet, Va.; a daughter, Ruth Ann Shawver Hutsenpiller of Rainelle; a son, James Ohlan Sears of Crozet, Va.; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace and Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Rev. Jerry Cline officiating. Entombment will follow at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum, Clintonville.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Wanda O. Eads Franklin

DALEVILLE, Va. — Wanda O. Eads Franklin, 84, formerly of Kincaid, died Monday, June 26, 2006, at Augusta Medical Center in Fisherville, Va.

Born June 10, 1922, at Page, she was the daughter of the late Preston and Lucy Chaney Eads.

Mrs. Franklin was a retired postmistress for the U.S. Postal Service at Kincaid with 30 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Franklin Jr.; three brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her children, a daughter, LaVerne Cosner and husband, Bob, of Daleville, a son, Leon Franklin Sr. and wife, Jackie, of Stuarts Draft, Va., and a daughter, Annita Kipp and husband, Bob, of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Commella Barnett of Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren, Greg Cosner and wife, Anita, of Daleville, Leon Franklin Jr. of Wardensville, Angelique Lochridge and husband, Andy, of Tampa and Jennifer Fitzgerald and husband, Travis of Fisherville; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua Franklin of Waynesboro, Va., Alexandra Lochridge of Tampa, Cory Cosner of Daleville and McKinley Fitzgerald of Fisherville.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Daniel Rice officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the funeral home.

Samuel Gray Jackson

ATLANTA — Samuel Gray Jackson, 52, formerly of Beckley, died Monday, June 19, 2006.

Born June 17, 1954, in Beckley, he was the son of the late George B. Jackson and Willie V. Hayes Jackson.

Mr. Jackson was a custodian at Raleigh County Courthouse and owned a valet business in Atlanta, Ga. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Letcher H. Gray Jackson; and two cou-sins, Mary Ruth Miller and Fletcher Parker.

Survivors include his brother, the Rev. Earl Gray Jackson of Beckley; three nephews, George Jackson of Mount Hope and Earl Jackson Jr. and Bruce Jackson, both of Beckley; two cousins, Ophelia Belcher and Quincy Madison, both of Beckley; and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.

Services will be noon Friday at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley, with the Rev. Earl Jackson and the Rev. Robert Morton officiating.

Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the funeral parlors.

Arrangements entrusted to Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.
