Willie Edward Mullins

Willie Edward Mullins, 76, of Itmann went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.

Born Aug. 13, 1929, at Carswell in McDowell County, he was the son of the late John Waldon and Sarah Belcher Mullins.

Mr. Mul-lins was a former coal miner, retiring from Consolidation Coal Co. at Itmann with 32 years of service, a member of the United Mine Workers, Local Union 9690. He was also a member of the Herndon Freewill Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean conflict.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 50 years, Shirley Graham Mullins; four daughters, Sheila Mullins of Coal City, Linda Austin of Matoaka, Carla Lane and her husband, Ricky, of Fairdale and Shelma Justice of Itmann; one son, Willie Mullins Jr. of Princeton; 12 grandchildren, April Parent, Rachael Hall, Sarah Bowers, Sheryl Grey, Kristin Mullins, Amber Cantley, Holly Johnson, Matt Lane, Ashlee Lane, Brandon Justice, Adam Justice and Jeremy Justice; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Herndon Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. William O. Tolliver and the Rev. Silas Mullins officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley.

Friends may call today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Matt Lane, Brandon, Adam and J.J. Justice, Don Hall and Kevin Parent.

Kathy Ann Plumley

The angels came to call to take our mother home and baby sister and daughter.

I hate to go and leave you, please remember our good times we had.

I’ve stayed my time on earth, now it’s time to go.

Please don’t cry for me. Because at last I’m free.

Kathy Ann Plumley of Beaver died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born Feb. 18, 1963, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Thelma Plumley Pyatt and Silas Pyatt of Beckley and the late Ray Bennett.

She was a homemaker, a graduate of Shady Spring High School and a member of the New Salem Baptist Church at Abraham.

Besides her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Dale Bennett.

Survivors include twin daughters, Courtney Fay Mooney and husband, Steven, of Cool Ridge and Candice Kay Mooney and husband, Daniel, of Cool Ridge; two brothers, Willard Ray Bennett and wife, June, of Geneva, Ohio, and Gary Neil Bennett and wife, Myrtle, of Elyria, Ohio; three sisters, Alice Fay Halbert and husband, Don, of Marion, Ill., Nora Belle McMillion of Beckley, and Donna Sue Ward of Beaver.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at New Salem Baptist Church at Abraham with Pastor John Wesley Richmond officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Plumley cemetery at Plumley Mountain.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior at the church on Saturday.

Steve Mooney, Daniel Mooney, Will Bennett, Ronnie Bennett, Derick Lester and Paul Daniels will serve as pallbearers.

Essie Marie Underwood

FAYETTEVILLE — Essie Marie Bias Underwood, 97, of Fayetteville, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, following a short illness.

Services will be at noon Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Bill Tury officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson cemetery, Goose Creek Road, Fayetteville. Friends may call one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Scott Warden

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Arthur Scott Warden, 29, formerly of Shady Spring and St. Albans, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, in a Charlotte, N.C., hospital, following a short-term illness.

Born Oct. 28, 1976, at Beckley, he was the son of Arthur Lewis Warden Jr. of Daniels and Terica Holtsclaw-Wolfe of St. Albans, and the stepson of Sharon Warden of Daniels.

Mr. Warden was a framer for Perfect Angles in Rock Hill, S.C.

He was a graduate of Shady Spring High School and lived in Rock Hill for the past seven years. He was a member of the Riverwood Baptist Church at St. Albans.

Other survivors besides his parents include his fiancée, Frances Lilly of Rock Hill, S.C.; children, Destiney Faith Lambert of Prosperity, Brennon Alan Lee Knight of Rock Hill, and Eathen Danyel Ray Knight of Rock Hill; a brother, Aaron Holtsclaw of Rock Hill, S.C.; sisters, Christi Holtsclaw, and her children, Ethan and Kaitlyn of St. Albans, and Krystal Warden of Daniels, and April Warden of Daniels; paternal grandmother, Bertha Warden of Beckley; and maternal grandparents, William and Bobby Knapp of Nitro.

Service will be today at 1 p.m. at Rose and Quesenberry Shady Spring Chapel, with Pastor Jack Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Tom Moran, Roger Warden, Tim Warden, Harry Wood, Dale Meadows, Dwight Long.

A memorial service will also be held for Mr. Warden Saturday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 523 Second St., St. Albans, with the Rev. Joel Harpold officiating. Visitation will start at 1 p.m. prior to the service.

Ralph O. Wilson Jr.

HINTON — Ralph O. Wilson Jr., 80, passed away at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital after a long battle with brain cancer.

Born in Huntington, W.Va., on Sept. 24, 1925, he was the son of the late Ralph O. Wilson Sr. and Helen Chadwick Wilson. Ralph graduated from Hinton High School in 1944 while his father was working for Dravo Corp. building the Bluestone Dam. He was drafted into the Army in 1944 and served in the European Theater and was part of the Occupation Forces in Japan. He was honorably discharged as a technical sergeant in 1946.

He attended Concord College for one year where he met his wife, Patty. He went on to graduate from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Industrial Management. After graduation, he went to work for Dravo Corp., headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he held several positions in the finance department. During his tenure with Dravo Corp., he lived in many places up and down the East Coast, Seattle, Washington and Australia, finally retiring from Dravo in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1990. While working for Dravo, he obtained additional degrees from Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh, Pa., and from Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.

In Pittsburgh, he was active in the Junior Achievement Program, Dale Carnegie Leadership programs, United Way campaigns, and the Institute of Management Accountants (president of Pittsburgh Chapter 1986, national director 1986 to 1988). He was also a graduate of Harvard’s Advanced Management program.

After his retirement, he and his wife returned to Hinton, where he became a “professional volunteer.” He was president of Summers County Chamber of Commerce, president of the West Virginia State Water Festival and president of Main Street Hinton. He served on the Board of Directors of the Hinton Area Foundation, the Tri-Cities Power Authority, the Summers County Wellness Center, the Hinton Railroad Museum and the Lilly Family Reunion Association where he served as treasurer. He held memberships in the Summers County Community and Economic Development Advisory Committee, the Kiwanis Club of Hinton, Sons of the American Revolution, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society (national accounting leaders). He most recently received a commendation for Outstanding Commitment to Volunteerism by the Governor of West Virginia and a Distinguished Humanitarian Award from the West Virginia Secretary of State.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patty Lou Lilly Wilson; two sons, Martin O. Wilson and wife, Leilani, of Columbia, Md., and Robert O. Wilson and wife, Toni, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren, Brandi and Robert Wilson II of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Alexa and Danielle Wilson of Columbia, Md.; two brothers, Donald Wilson of Collinsville, Miss., and his two sons, James Wilson of Culloden, W.Va., and his wife, son and daughter.

Besides his friends, he will be missed by his 102-year-old mother-in-law, Mabel Laizo of the Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hilldale, W.Va., and his wife’s brother, Edward Lilly at Halstead’s Care Home, and his wife, Mary, and sons Dr. Edward Lilly and Alan Lilly, their families and the rest of the Lilly clan.

Services will be noon Saturday, Nov. 19, at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Jeff Canterbury and the Rev. Robert Glaser officiating.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Home. He may also be visited prior to his funeral.

Pallbearers include: Robert O. Wilson II, R.T. Rogers, Ed Hannah, David Ziegler, T.J. Conway, Darrell Lilly, Ron Seaton, Scott Briers, Billy Joe Lilly, Mike Taylor and Pete Peterson.

Hurley ‘B.I.’ Woodson

Hurley ‘‘B.I.” Woodson, 78, 1418 Fayette Pike, West Montgomery, W.Va., died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, at the Kanawha Hospice Care Center after a long illness.

Born March 27, 1927, at Carbondale, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas Woodson and LuLu Medley.

Mr. Woodson was a coal miner and a retired veteran.

Those left to cherish his memory include three aunts, Odesa Mimms of Montgomery, Juanita Kennedy of Fayetteville and Kathryn Gowens of Columbus, Ohio; a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

Funeral services will be at Carbondale Missionary Baptist Church in Carbondale, W.Va., Saturday at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Huse Memorial Park in Fayetteville. Officiating will be the Rev. Cornelius Byers, the Rev. Freddie Davenport and the Rev. Henry Gravely.

The family will receive friends and family at the church one hour prior to services.

Grace Florence Wright

Grace Florence Wright of Capital Heights, Md., formerly of Beckley, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at 2200 S. Fayette St. at the family home after a short illness.

Linda Lou Collins

Linda Lou Collins, 50, of Apple Grove, formerly of the Baisden area, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005.

Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

LOCKWOOD — Ina B. Foster, 81, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005.

Sylvia Herron

Sylvia Herron, 82, of Shady Spring, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at her home following a long illness.

Miss Pauline M. Alderman, 86, of Beckley, died Sunday, April 8, 2007.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before service Monday at the funeral home.

Myrl Eva Bragg

MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Myrl Eva Bragg, 84, formerly of Lester, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, in Madisonville.

Born Sept. 11, 1922, at Lester, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Elmer and Josie Frances Webb Dunn.

Mrs. Bragg was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. While living in Lester, she attended the Church of Christ at Lester and had been a resident of Madisonville for the past 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Merrill Kelly; her second husband, Lacy Bragg; a son, Larry Kelly; and a daughter, Fada Sue Bragg.

Surviving are her daughter, Susie Head of Thompsons Station, Tenn.; her four sons, Perry Kelly and his wife, Jody, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jerry Kelly and his wife, Martha, of Johnson City, Tenn., Kerry Kelly of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Garry Kelly and his wife, Betty, of Lester; a sister, Bill Bailey of Lester; nine special grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial will be 2:30 p.m. today at Webb cemetery, Lester, with Herb Milam officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
