Orval ‘Bob’ Russell

CRAIGSVILLE — Orval “Bob” Russell, 70, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 9, 2007.

Service wil be 2 p.m. Saturday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Myrtle O. Smallwood

Myrtle O. Smallwood, 95, of 119 Washington Ave., Beckley, died at 9:09 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2007, at SunBridge Pine Lodge Care and Rehabilitation, Beckley, following a long illness.

Arrangements by Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.

Paul A. Todd

DEXTER, N.Y. — Paul A. Todd, 77, formerly of Alloway, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, April 10, 2007, at home.

The husband of the late Viola (nee Cochran) Todd, who died in 1993, they were married for 42 years.

Born in Beckley, he was the son of the late Robert Harvey Todd Sr. and the late Maude E. Todd (nee Murphy).

Mr. Todd worked as a weld-er his entire life. During the Korean War he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a welder stationed on the famed 49th Parallel.

Returning from the war, he continued to travel extensively with his family around the eastern United States working on everything from bridges to tanks. He was a member of Union Pipefitters and Welders Local 322 based in Westville. Mr. Todd’s last job was working at the PSE&G Hope Creek nuclear power facility in Lower Alloway’s Creek before his retirement in 1989. The newspaper “Today’s Sunbeam” wrote an article about him and dubbed him a “living legend” for his unmatched welding abilities.

Mr. Todd was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and also the Mason Lodge, both of Salem County. He loved to travel and he and his wife visited the western U.S. many times.

During retirement he spent most of his time with his family and relaxing. He was an avid poker player, and no one could beat him at a game of checkers.

He is survived by three children, Allen P. Todd and his wife, Laura, of Dexter, Esther Rebecca Robbins and her husband, John, of Leola, Pa., and April V. Miller and her husband, James, of Alloway; four grandchildren, Esther Master and her husband, Craig, Aimee Viagiano and her husband, Lenny, John K. Robbins II and Mallory Robbins; three great-grandchildren, Blake Leonard Viagiano, Alexis Viola Master and Paige Ann Master; a sister, SueAnne Pack and her husband, Jack, of Princeton; and three brothers, Earl Todd and his wife, Dorothy, of Frederick, Md., Samuel Wayne Todd and his wife, Faye, of Chicago, Ill., and Ross Todd of Beckley. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Harvey Todd Jr.

Service will be 11 a.m. today at Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton, with the Rev. John C. Robbins of the Haleyville Mauricetown United Methodist Parish officiating.

Interment will follow at Fernwood Memorial Park, Hopewell Township.

Friends will be received one hour before service today at the funeral home.

Thomas Walter Treadway

OAK HILL — Thomas Walter Treadway, 67, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill.

Born Feb. 29, 1940, at Lochgelly, he was the son of the late Bill Burke and Mary Catherine Yarber Treadway.

Mr. Treadway was retired from the U.S. Navy with 20 years of service and was a disabled postmaster, having worked at Edmond and Thurmond. He was also a former Fayetteville city police officer.

He was a member of Hilltop Family Worship Center and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Manning Burke Treadway.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Marie Bender Treadway; a daughter, Angela Marie Adkins of Oak Hill; grandson, Thomas Giles Adkins of Oak Hill; and two brothers, Leon Treadway and Melvin Treadway of Fayetteville.

It was Mr. Treadway’s request that his body be donated to the WVU Human Gift Registry in Morgantown.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Kenneth ‘Kenny’ C. Williams

OAK HILL — Kenneth “Kenny” C. Williams, 62, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born Nov. 24, 1944, at Lochgelly, he was the son of the late Emory and Ethel Sadler Williams.

Mr. Williams was retired from John C. Dolphs. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth C. Williams Jr.

Survivors include a sister, Bernice Kinsler of Sophia.

Service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Jessie Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Friends may call 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Paul A. Todd

DEXTER, N.Y. — Paul A. Todd, 77, formerly of Alloway, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton, N.Y. Friends will be received one hour before service Friday at the funeral home.

Arrangements by Freitag Funeral Home, Bridgeton.

David M. Toler

LYNCO — David M. Toler, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 10, 2007.

Service wil be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pentecostal House of Prayer, Lynco. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and Friday at the church.

Robert Tate Vance

VENICE, Fla. — Robert Tate Vance, 79, passed away Monday, April 9, 2007.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Forest Meadows cemetery, Gainesville, Fla.

Ruth Ann Bailey Jackson

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ruth Ann Bailey Jackson, 62, formerly of Beckley, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, at her home.

Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley.

Billy Bert Massey

Billy Bert Massey, 67, of Sabine, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005.

Born Nov. 27, 1937, he was the son of Hicks and Martha Massey.

Billy was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1959-1962 in military service as a tank operator.

Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Dottie Massey; a son, Vincent Massey and his wife, Susan, of Sabine; a special sister-in-law, Tammy Cook of Sabine; and sisters, Hanner Merle Cook and Freda Blankenship of Oceana; and brother, Ralph Cook of Beckley.

To honor Mr. Massey’s wishes he will be cremated and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Billy’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the second floor nurses and staff at BARH for their loving care and generosity.

Special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Sahadeven of Dag Hammarskjold Cancer Treatment Center.

And also special thanks and appreciation to nephew Donnie Massey and wife, Paula, for all their wonderful help.

Mary Ruth Miller

Mary Ruth Miller, 81, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at SunBridge Pine Lodge Nursing Home after a long illness.

Born in Raleigh County as Georgia Mary Ruth Collier, she was the daughter of the late George Collier and Queen Victoria Collier Madison.

Mrs. Mill-er graduated in the top ten percent of her class from Stratton High School. She attended Bluefield State College, graduated from West Virginia State College and received her Master of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Miller taught high school math at Byrd-Prillerman High School for several years and retired as head of the mathematics department at Scott High School in Boone County. She was a member of the WVEA and NEA teachers’ organizations.

Mary Ruth was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, having served as president of Alpha Zeta Zeta Chapter and State Director of West Virginia.

Mrs. Miller was an active member of Central Baptist Church until her health deteriorated, having first joined under Rev. J.T. Bennett. During her marriage to Thomas H. Miller Sr., she was a member of St. Paul AME Church where she was director of the Y.P.D. After her divorce and retirement she returned to Beckley and rejoined the church family at Central Baptist.

In addition to her only sibling, a sister, Ophelia M. Belcher of Beckley, she is survived by a daughter and her husband, Queen Minerva and Luther Livingston of Atlanta, Ga.; a son and his wife, Thomas Jr. and Dianne Miller of Colorado Springs, Colo. She has six grandchildren, Christy, Marion, Arika, Tanika, Janae, Orlandria, and other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Central Baptist Church where the Rev. Robert Brown is the pastor. Rev. Earl Jackson, her first cousin, will deliver the eulogy. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service.

She will be buried in Greenwood Memorial Park.

Arrangements are entrusted to Durgan Funeral Home of Beckley.

Dana Elise Yeargin Greenwald Roberts

HINTON — Dana Elise Yeargin Greenwald Roberts, 43, of Zion Mountain, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at the Specialty Hospital in New Orleans, La. Dana received traumatic injuries as a result of an automobile accident June 16, 2005 in Mercer County and was eventually transferred to the Specialty Hospital where she received her long-term care, until the devastation of Hurricane Katrina struck the area, in which Dana was a patient.

She was born Nov. 28, 1961, in New Orleans, La., and was the daughter of Edward C. and Patricia Hill Yeargin of New Orleans and Mississippi.

She was a 1979 graduate of Riverdale High School in Jefferson, La., and was a member of Little Wolf Creek Baptist Church in Hinton. She was known for her cheerfulness and smiling face, and loved her family, community and church family.

She is survived by a son, Philip J. Greenwald of Princeton; four daughters, Jenipher L. Greenwald of Princeton, Sarah P. Greenwald of Dawson, Leza Y. Greenwald and Elizabeth E. Roberts, both of Hinton; three brothers, E. Carl Yeargin of Metairie, La., Andy J. Yeargin and wife, Kim, of LaPlace, La., and David N. Yeargin and wife, Allison, of Silver Springs, Md.; a sister, Cynthia Y. Freeney and husband, Arthur, of Independence, La., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Little Wolf Creek Baptist Church, Hinton, with Preacher Eddie Harris officiating.
