Richard ‘Rick’ Rinehart Sr.

ELKTON, Md. — Richard “Rick” Rinehart, Sr., 52, of Elkton, Md., formerly of Bud, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, in the Union Hospital of Cecil County, Elkton, Md.

Born Jan. 15, 1953, at Bud, he was the son of the late Harry Vinson and Pauline May Sizemore Rinehart.

Rick was a heavy equipment operator and was employed by G&S Contracting for nine years. He was a member of the Charlestown Missionary Baptist Church. Rick loved everything and everyone, most of all his family. Rick and his family shared many wonderful memories in the mountains. He was also a great singer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Harriet, Patricia, and Carol; and by a brother, Harry, Jr.

Survivors include five children, Sherry Sue Husfelt of Elkton, Md., Jenifer Rinehart of North East, Md., Richard A. Rinehart Jr. of Elkton, Md., Kimberly A. Rinehart of Elkton, Md., and Paul V. Rinehart of Elkton, Md.; nine brothers and sisters, Twila Wilson of Strasburg, Pa., Charlie Rinehart, Pete Rinehart of North East, Md., James Rinehart of Elkton, Md., Ward Rinehart of North East, Md., Paul Rinehart of North East, Md., Kenny Rinehart of New York City, N.Y., Linda Tyndall of North East, Md., and Brenda Rinehart of North East, Md.; and three grandchildren, Mervin, Brian, and Tori. He is also survived by his companion of eight years, Lena Evans, and her two sons, James and Ryan of Belcamp, Md. Rick will be greatly missed by his best friend, Mike Pelletier; as well as his 100 nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville. Burial will follow in Bud Mountain cemetery.

Friends may call from noon until time of service at the funeral home on Tuesday.

A service was held at Crouch Funeral Home, North East, Md., on Monday, Nov. 21, 2005.

In lieu of flowers, the Rinehart family requests memorial contributions be made in Rick’s name to the Richard Rinehart, Sr. Memorial Foundation, c/o Crouch Funeral Home, 127 S. Main St., North East, MD 21901.

Calfee Funeral Service of Pineville is serving the Rinehart family.

Rebecca Jean Runion

Rebecca Jean Runion, 36, of 106 Fifth St., Beckley, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at 8:30 a.m., at her home, following a long eight-year battle with cancer.

Born at Parkersburg on Sept. 1, 1969, she was the daughter of Jane Hamrick Brown and stepdaughter of Denny Brown of Glenville.

Rebecca grew up in Webster County, and was a graduate of Webster County High School. Before her illness, she was an employee of Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital where she served as an L.P.N. and as a ward clerk. She was a member of the Maynor Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, David Runion; three stepchildren, Tisha Clair and husband Chris of San Antonio, Texas, Nicolas Runion and wife Jessica of Beckley, and Joel Runion of Beckley; a brother, Sgt. James Wolfe of Fort Hood, Texas; her grandmother, Violet Hamrick of Bolair; four stepgrandchildren, Dylan Clair, Colleen Adaiah Runion, Justin Ward, and Andrew Runion.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary’s United Methodist Church, with Rev. Forrest Gray and the Rev. Roger Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Friends may call from 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley, and one hour prior to services.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Verna Sexton Skaggs

FAYETTEVILLE — Verna Sexton Skaggs, 91, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at her home, following an extended illness.

Born on Dec. 23, 1913, at Cyrus, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Burley Bailey Hackworth and Jocie Conley Hackworth.

Mrs. Skaggs was a member of the First Church of God, Fayetteville. She was a retired school and restaurant cook and she enjoyed quilting and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Amos Sexton; her second husband, Chalmer Skaggs; one son, Master Sgt. Thomas Sexton; two sisters, Tressie Ivey and Velva Perkins; and three brothers, James, Manuel, and Lee Gibson.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Teresa Lycondes and her husband George of Stratford, Conn., and Eric Sexton and his wife Diana of Mechanicsville, Va.; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Christopher, and Madison Sexton; daughter-in-law, Lu Sexton of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Ethel Decker of Radford, Va., and Gladys Hudnall of Montgomery; and two nephews, Capt. James “Buck” Ivey of Havelock, N.C., and Virgil Ivey of Scarbro.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Church of God, Fayetteville, with Rev. Art Campbell and Pastor Bob Coulter officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Friends may call 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to Hospice of Southern WV, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802-1472.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of the arrangements.

William G. Tate

CINCINNATI, Ohio — William G. Tate, 71, currently a resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, died after a long illness on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at approximately 8 p.m., surrounded by his family.

Sessie N. Vaughan

PRINCETON — Sessie N. Vaughan, 90, of Princeton, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Friends may call today from 6 p.m. until service hour at the funeral home.

Gracie Pearl White

DRY CREEK — Gracie Pearl White, 78, of Dry Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at her home, following a long illness.

She was born Aug. 24, 1927, at Marfork, a daughter of the late James “Jim” and Lottie Pettry Alderman.

She was a member of the Dry Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse White; a son, Robert Lee White; brothers, Dell, Ira, Albert, and Little Harm Alderman; sisters, Lora Webb, Retta Brown, Barbara Underwood, Bessie Underwood, Sylvia Price, and three infant sisters; and a grandson, Jerry Lee White.

She is survived by three daughters, Betty Taylor and husband C.B. “Chuck” of Fayette, Ala., Phyllis White of Dry Creek, and Kathy Bone and husband Phillip, also of Dry Creek; two sons, Willard Orville White and wife Mary Lou “Betty” of Hickory, N.C., and Jesse “James” White and wife Brenda of Hinton; a sister, Juanita Alderman of Dry Creek; a sister-in-law, Minnie Pearl Alderman of Dry Creek; several grandchildren, some she reared; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express special thanks to the nursing staff at Raleigh General Hospital and to Dr. I.F. Salon and his staff for the care they gave to our mother.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations of sympathy be made to Arnett Chapel, Arnett, or Dry Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Dry Creek, or Naoma Freewill Baptist Church, Naoma.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 12 p.m. noon at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. David Cook and the Rev. Roger Mullins officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Workman

GLEN ROGERS — Helen Workman, 66, of Glen Rogers, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana. Friends may call from 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Evans Funeral Home of Oceana is serving the Workman family.

Donald Lee Abshire Sr.

Donald Lee Abshire Sr., 77, of Shady Spring died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division.

He was born June 10, 1928, at Kistler, the son of the late Keenan Abshire and Georgia Morgan Abshire.

Mr. Abshire was of the Mormon faith and retired after 35 years of service with Eastern Associated Coal Corp. as a supervisor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Mae Abshire; and a brother, Harley Abshire.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Abshire; a son, Donald Lee Abshire Jr. of Louisville, Ky.; daughters, Jerri Peck of Iron Station, N.C., and Darlene Radichel of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons, a granddaughter, two great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters; sisters Mavis Wade of Weston, Emma Cook of Jesse and Eva Sanders of Ghent; and a brother, Van Abshire of Covington, Va.

Private service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Salvation Army, 312 S. Fayette St., Beckley, WV 25801.

Mary Emmer Boone

HINTON — Mary Emmer Boone, 96, of Hinton, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at The Brier in Fairlea following a long illness.

Born July 22, 1909, in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Moses H. and Bessie C. Boyd Wyant.

Ms. Boone was a homemaker and a member of Freedom Baptist Church at Powleys Creek. She was active in the Hinton Senior Citizens for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil A. Boone, in 1974; a son, Cecil A. Boone Jr.; four sisters, Dorothy Willey, Mabel Maddy, Eunice Collinger and Eda Allen; and a brother, Moses Wyant.

Survivors include two sons, Benny Boone and wife, Juanita, of Hilldale and B.K. Boone and friend, Eloise Dishman, of Gaithersburg, Md.; a daughter, Brenda Cooper of Forest Hill; a sister, Janie Denton of Christiansburg, Va.; eight grandchildren, Sharon Sizemore and husband, Clark, Kathy Boone, Bryan Boone and wife, Cindy, Carl Boone and wife, Susan, Cherie Drake, Kim Cooper, Kenny Cooper Jr. and wife, Becky, and Pat Boone and wife, Lisa; and nine great-grandchildren, Phillip, Jeremy, Cody, Brandon, Taylor, Grayson, Chelsie, Kelly, Mitchell and Jarrod.

Graveside service and burial will be 2 p.m. Friday at Woodrumtown cemetery near Hinton with Pastor Eddie Harris officiating. Friends may call noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Pivont Funeral Home, Hinton.

Family will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Kenneth “Booney” Borders Jr., 44, of 103 Missouri Ave., Beckley, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Dennie ‘Junior’ Brown

KOPPERSTON — Dennie “Junior” Brown, 83, departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Pauline A. Cook

BRENTON — Pauline A. Cook, 80, departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 16 days.

Born Oct. 12, 1925, at Jesse, she was the daughter of the late Azel and Martha Adkins.

Mrs. Cook was a homemaker and a member of Brenton Church of God. She was a loving and precious wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor who will be remembered by all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward G. Cook; a son, Roy Ford Cook; two brothers, Bob Adkins and Lynden Adkins; and three sisters, Lonnie Trent, Wilmeth Blevins and Faye Adkins.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four loving sons, Ray Cook of Brenton and his companion, Kathy Toler, of Pineville, Roger Cook and wife, Belinda, of Ramey Addition, Randall Cook and wife, Jacqueline, of Brenton and Randall Leland Cook of Brenton and his companion, Angela, of Morgantown; a daughter, Jessica McNeely of Pineville; 11 grandchildren, Shane Cook and wife, Kelly, Debbie Solt and her husband, Terry, Todd Cook and his wife, Kelli, Stanley Cook and wife, Aleisha, Thomas Cook and wife, Virginia, Jonathan Riffe, Johnny Riffe Jr., Dalton Cook, Rachel Stear and husband, Josh, Ford Cook and Michelle Schnur; 12 great-grandchildren, Alexander Cook, Olivia Cook, Terry Lee Solt, Brittany Cook, Molly Cook, Emily Cook, Chasity Cook, Chloe Stear, Alexander McNeely, Blake Bailey, Keisha Taylor and Shadow Schnur; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

A celebration of Mrs. Cook’s life will be 1 p.m. today at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Lee Fisher officiating. Entombment will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny.

Casketbearers will be grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service today at the funeral home.

Services are entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.
