Oliver Stevenson Kennedy Sr.
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Oliver Stevenson Kennedy Sr., entered into eternal rest, after a lengthy illness on Sunday morning, Dec. 31, 2006, in North Charleston. Mr. Kennedy was the husband of Nelma Audry Pigott Kennedy.
He was born March 23, 1918, in Lex, W.Va., a son of the late William M. and Gladys Caudall Kennedy.
He was a retired metering department supervisor for 37 years with the SCE&G. He was a life member of Hammerton Lodge No. 332 AFM and a member of First Southern Methodist Church.
In 1937, Oliver entered the US Marine Corps. Advancing to the rank of Corporal before his discharge in 1941, he reenlisted into the Marines in 1942. He served as drill instructor at Parris Island, and with the formation of the 4th Marine Division, he transferred to the 23rd Regiment of the 4th Division and sailed overseas in 1944. He served as Gunnery Sergeant in the assault wave in four major landings in the battles for Roi-Namur in the Marshall Islands, Saipan and Tinian in the Mariana Islands and Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged in 1945 for wounds received at Iwo Jima.
The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Stevenson Kennedy Sr. are invited to attend the funeral service of the former in First Southern Methodist Church, North Charleston, S.C. at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007). Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.

Louise G. Ray Meadows
Louise G. Ray Meadows, 96, of Bradley, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at Parker Personal Care-Sun Mine Road, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Meadows was a homemaker. She was a member of the Bradley Church of God, where she was the oldest chartered member, and was an active member of the Ladies Willing Workers of the church.
Born Jan. 20, 1910, in Boliver, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James Harvey Ray and Bessie Agnes Smith Ray.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Okla Homer Meadows on June 27, 1989; a son, James Meadows; and six brothers.
Survivors include two sons, Jack D. Meadows (Maryln) of Canton, Ohio and James M. Meadows Jr. (Tresa) of Bradley; three daughters, Agathel Virginia Lawton (Tom) of Richmond, Va., Shelva Jean Arthur (Charles) of Bradley, Nancy Louise Harris (Richard) of Mount Hope, and a daughter-in-law, Violet Meadows of Ringgold, Ga.; a brother, Routhal Ray of Texas; special care givers, Jessie and Helen Parker and Carol, Tresa, and Vickey; 17 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and a host of great-great grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at the Bradley Church of God, Bradley, with the Revs. Jessie Parker and Brian White officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

LEIVASY — Jack G. Mundy, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at the HCR Manor Care, Rainelle, following a long illness.
Born Aug. 21, 1920, in North Tazewell, Va., he was the son of the late John W. and Janie Whitley Mundy.
He was a plant superintendent in the mining industry, a member of the Leivasy United Methodist Church, past president of the Leivasy Ruritan Club and had served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Mundy.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Webb Mundy of Leivasy; a daughter, Janna Rose Mundy Ashton of South Lake, Texas; three sons, Jimmy Webb Mundy of Charlotte, N.C., Jeffrey Todd Mundy of McArthur, Ohio, and Jack Lane Mundy of Yorktown, Va.; a brother, Charles Mundy of Rupert; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, with the Pastor Rick Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Clover cemetery, Clover.

GARY — Ilene G. Fortner, 83, formerly of Baileysville, passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at McDowell County Continuous Care Nursing Home in Gary following a short illness.
She was born July 14, 1922, in Logan County, the daughter of the late John and Lula Grimmett Booth.
Ilene was a homemaker and affiliated with Christ Cathedral Church at Iaeger.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Wonnie B. Fortner; and two sons, Paul David Fortner and Connie Ray Fortner.
Survivors include five sons, Jerry and Carol Fortner of Brenton, Larry and Brenda Fortner of Durham, N.C., James and Penny Fortner of Brenton, Charles and Tammy Fortner of Talcott and Ronnie Joe Fortner of Talcott; a daughter, Pamela Sue Stark of Lyles, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, along with a host of other family and friends.
Service will be 7 p.m. today at Stafford Family Funeral Home Chapel, Lynco, with the Rev. Russell King officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday at Fortner cemetery, Talcott.

Muriel Eloise Dixon Grubb
FISHERVILLE, Va. — Muriel Eloise Dixon Grubb, 86, formerly of Hilton Village, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Augusta Medical Center in Fisherville following a short illness.
Born Jan. 17, 1919, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late John Charles Dixon and Molly White Dixon Bumgartener.
Mrs. Grubb was a member of Hilton Village Baptist Church and the Women’s Auxiliary of John Page VFW Post 4484 of Rainelle.
She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman B. Grubb, who died in 1984, and a son, Donald G. Lanham, in 1969.
Those left to mourn include three daughters, Brenda Crom and husband, Ed, of Eldorado, Kan., Gaye Tanner of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Angela Faye Pence and husband, Ronnie, of Staunton, Va.; two stepdaughters, Anna Mae and Lulu Belle; two stepsons, Bobby Grubb and Norman “Scotty” Grubb; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wallace and Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Eric Keister officiating. Burial will follow at Charley White cemetery, Clifftop.
Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the funeral home. There will be no evening visitation.
