CRAIGSVILLE — Ella “Ruth” Brooks, 69, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Liberty Union Mission Church, Craigsville. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Liberty Union Mission Church.

Ainsley Brown

Ainsley Catherine Grace Brown, infant daughter of Jason and Heidi Peterson Brown of Cleveland School Road, Beckley, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, in a Charleston hospital. Ainsley was born Oct. 25, 2005, in Beckley.

Other survivors include brothers, Joshua Michael and Caleb Samuel; paternal grandparents, Michael Brown and Nancy Brown, both of Maine; maternal grandparents, the Rev. J. Samuel and Dee Peterson of Beckley; paternal aunts and uncles, Matt and Amanda Brown of Charleston, S.C., Crystal Brown of Boston, Mass., and Jordan Brown of Vermont; maternal aunts and uncles, the Rev. Jason and Michelle Lowe of Pasadena, Md., and the Rev. Paul and Cara Rankin of Beckley; paternal great-grandmother, Chloris Calder of Zephyrhills, Fla.; paternal great-grandmother, Jean England of Dayton, Ohio, and cousins, Noah and Benjamin Lowe.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of God Family Worship Center with the Rev. Mark Shrade officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 12 noon until time of the service today at the church.

James E. Cadle

DAWSON — James E. Cadle, 78, departed this life Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005.

Born Nov. 18, 1927, at Grassy Meadows, he was the son of the late Everett E. and Verena Mae Cooper Cadle.

James was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving as a sergeant. He was an active member of the Meadow Grove Baptist Church at Dawson and was retired from Anderson Paving.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Livesay.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Llewellyn Cadle; two daughters, Susan Hutsenpiller and husband, David, of Smoot, and Sandra Arbaugh and husband, Mike, of Lewisburg; two sisters, Esta Huntsenpiller of Dawson, and Myrtle Mitchell and husband, Champe, of Alexandria, Va.; three brothers, Earl Cadle and wife, Gloria, of Moses Lake, Wash., Homer Cadle and wife, Vena, of Smoot, and Ray Cadle and wife, Loretta, of Grassy Meadows; three grandchildren, Chad, Chandra and Sybil, and one great-grandchild, Dawson.

Service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Meadow Grove Baptist Church at Dawson with the Revs. Houston Boothe and Sterling Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville. The service will conclude with the release of the White Flights.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations of sympathy be made to the Meadow Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o William Legg, Rt. 1 Box 127, Meadow Bridge, WV 25976.

Richard Hill Cutlip

PRINCETON — Richard Hill Cutlip, 71, of 107 Karnes St., died peacefully in his sleep, Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, in Spencer, W.Va.

Born Oct. 18, 1934, at his home in Lobelia, W.Va., he was the son of the late Exie Lorraine and Arlene Judy Cutlip. He and his wife of 28 years, Betty Neil Cutlip, owned and operated Cutlip’s Lawn and Garden Center and Landscaping in Princeton. They also owned a medical rental company that grew to serve over 1,200 patients at the time of its purchase by British Air and have entered into a variety of successful business ventures over the past twenty-five years.

Richard began his employment career with Beckley Ice Cream Company in 1955. He then worked for Fairmont Foods in Parkersburg and Huntington before being named County Extension Agent for Mingo County in Williamson, where he served from August of 1959 until 1967, when he was named county extension agent for Mercer County. Richard served in this position until 1978, before leaving State employment to enter the private sector. Richard attended Mt. Lebanon Elementary School, where his mother taught him in a one-room schoolhouse before graduating in 1947. He then went on to graduate from Hillsboro High School at the age of 16. He served as senior class president and was a member of the State Animal Judging Team that competed in Chicago in 1951. He also played football, basketball and baseball. Richard then entered West Virginia University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Dairy Manufacturing in 1955. He received his Master’s Degree in Agriculture in 1968. While a student at WVU, he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.

While living in Williamson, he was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and the bowling league. In Princeton, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Princeton Elks Lodge No. 1459 and Princeton Moose Lodge No. 1521. He was past president of the West Virginia Nurseryman’s Association and had extensive lifelong involvement in all aspects of the 4-H Clubs of America.

In recent years, he was awarded the Business Award by the Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce and was active in the development of Pam’s Place in Princeton.

In addition to his parents, one sister, Lucy Jane Gladwell, and his aunt, Zora Cutlip, preceded him in death.

In addition to his wife, Betty, survivors include three sons, Rick E. Cutlip and his wife, Rose, Timothy R. Cutlip and Tracy A. Cutlip and his wife, Shelley, all of Princeton; one daughter, Renae Cutlip Livesay and her husband, Jimmy, of Greenbrier County; grandchildren, Rick E. Cutlip, ll, Megan Cutlip. Audra Cutlip. Payton Cutlip, Greg Cutlip, Kayla Cutlip, Tracy “TJ” Cutlip, Jr. His former wife, Nannie Louise Coxey also survives him.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Ed Pettus officiating and Jody Jennings serving as eulogist. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Princeton.

Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. today at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton.

Frank Hale, DVM

Frank Hale, DVM, 86, formerly of Beckley, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, in Fort Myers, Fla.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at the St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Morristown, Tenn.

Linda Joyce Eakins Henderson

Linda Joyce Eakins Henderson, 57, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005.

Services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel, Booneville, Miss.

Burial with memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Pineview cemetery at Orgas.

Effie Louise Hood

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Effie Louise Hood, 61, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, in the Alleghany Regional Hospital, Lowmoor, Va., after a long illness.

Born Dec. 28, 1943, at Ronceverte, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy Micheal Turner.

Mrs. Hood had been a resident of White Sulphur Springs for one year and was formerly of Jasper, Ala., a member of the Church of God and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Elizabeth Wykle; two sisters, Elizabeth Vance and Joyce Coffman; and a brother, Buddy Ridgeway.

Survivors include her husband, Erskin Hood of White Sulphur Springs; three stepsons, James M. Hood of DelRay Beach, Fla., Vincent D. Hood of Lakeworth, Fla., and Martin L. Hood of Jasper, Ala.; five sisters, Peggy Holliday of Ronceverte, Shelby Tomlinson of Lewisburg, Bonnie Demo of Roscommon, Mich., Dottie Hoke of Covington, Va., and Sandy Church of Lewisburg; two brothers, Lacy Turner of Ronceverte and Jimmy Turner of White Sulphur Springs, and two grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Longanacre Funeral Home Chapel, Fairlea, with the Rev. Gene Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Robert E. Keesee

Robert E. Keesee, 86, of Beckley, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, following a short illness.

Born at Pike County, Ky., on May 22, 1919, he was the son of the late John Henry Keesee and the late Elizabeth Zelia Keesee.

Mr. Keesee was a graduate of Morris Harvey College, and received his master’s degree in Education from West Virginia University. He had retired as a principal from Marlinton High School, and had served as a principal of various schools in southern West Virginia. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church, the Beni Kedem Shrine in Charleston, the Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95, A.F. & A.M., and the Beckley Moose Lodge No. 1606.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Amick Keesee; his son, Robin Keesee of Fairfax, Va.; and two grandsons, Abbott and Charley.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at the Beckley Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Adrian Pratt officiating.

Friends may call at the church one hour prior to service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beckley Presbyterian Church, 203 South Kanawha St., Beckley, WV 25801.

Huldia Z. Mahone

Huldia Z. Mahone, 97, of Charleston and Beckley, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, in a Charleston care facility after a long illness.

Arrangements are incomplete at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley.

Edna McNiel

Edna McNiel, 99, passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2005.

Born April 19, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lucinda Caudill Osborne.

Mrs. McNiel was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beckley, and a member of the Eastern Star.

Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Frank C. Bowers; second husband, George McNiel; a brother, Edward F. Osborne; and a son, Tom Bowers.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her sons, John Bowers of Asheville, N.C., and James Bowers and his wife, Wilma, of Mullens; a sister, Pauline Tolbert of Novi, Mich.; two grandchildren, Steven Bowers of Asheville, N.C., and Catherine Bowers of Mullens; and four great-grandchildren, Adam Brown and Ashton Brown of Mullens, and Ethan Bowers and Marisa Bowers of Ashville, N.C.

Service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Dr., Beckley, is serving the family.

Albert Potorti

REEDSVILLE, Pa. — Albert Potorti, 74, of 91 Shelly Dr., entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at 4:10 p.m. at his residence. He has been a resident of Brown Township, Mifflin County, Pa., since 2000, and before that lived in Renick, W.Va.

He was born Aug. 4, 1931, at Carmel, Putnam County, N.Y., a son of the late William and Jenny Franco Potorti. He was united in marriage on April 20, 1954, in Norfolk, Va., to the former Barbara Ann Caldwell, who survives.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Feb. 14, 1950, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 14, 1955.

Al retired in 1984 as an electronics technician after being employed by the Federal Aviation Administration for 33 years.

In earlier life, while residing in New Jersey, he was an active Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Belleville Post and a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and the Ruritan Club in West Virginia.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and taxidermist. He enjoyed traveling and attending yard sales and flea markets during his retirement years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons and their spouses, Michael A. and Judy B. Potorti of Wichita, Kan., Stephen J. and Marian M. Potorti of Baltimore, Md., Dr. Anthony and Julie A. Potorti of Reedsville, and Paul F. Potorti of Cary, N.C.; and two daughters and their spouses, Grace M. Potorti and Neal Thorton of Reno, Nev., and Cynthia P. and J. Marty Thacker of Renick. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Dominic Potorti, Julie Potorti, Mary Beth Potorti, Stephen Potorti, Teresa Potorti, Amanda Potorti, Kristi Potorti, Matthew Potorti, Amy Bukowski, James Bukowski, Joseph Thacker and Kristen Thacker; and one great-grandson, Joseph Thomas Potorti.

He is also survived by a brother, Peter Potorti of Ithaca, N.Y.; three sisters, Frances Janero of White Plains, N.Y., Mary DeVito of Valhalla, N.Y., and Vera Potorti of White Plains, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dominic Potorti.

A life celebration service will be 12 noon Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at the Mountain View Mennonite Church, Shelly Drive, Reedsville, with the Rev. Lester Diller, pastor of the church, officiating.

Visitors will be received by the family at the church prior to the time of the service from 10 a.m. until time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Albert may be made to Hospice The Bridge, 400 Highland Ave., Lewistown, Pa. 17044.
