RONCEVERTE — Mark Haymond Smith Jr., 80, went home to glory on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, after a long illness.
He was born in Logan, on Dec. 12, 1924, to the late Mark Haymond Sr. and Christine Bare Smith.
Mr. Smith was a retired worker for the W.Va. Dept. of Highways and an active member of the Greenbrier Regular Baptist Church in Ronceverte.
He served in the U.S. Armed Forces from 1944 to 1946 in both the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan. During his years of military duty, he received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Philippine Liberation Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the WW II Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal.
Mr. Smith was an avid bowler, gardener, enjoyed hunting and fishing and sending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Mary Jane Sterns Smith; and a son, Mark Edgar Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Nellie Harsanyi Smith of Ronceverte; a son, David Smith of Florida; four brothers, Jack Smith and wife, Virginia, of Ronceverte, Bob Smith and wife, Jewel, of Florida, Herbert Smith and wife, Virginia, of Huntington, John Smith and wife, Betty, of Alderson; two sisters, Mary Ellen Raines and husband, George, of Ronceverte, and Ida L. Gosik and husband, Joe, of Ronceverte; four stepchildren, Ron Doster and wife, Barbara, of Ann Arbor, Mich., John Har-sanyi and wife, Joan, of Princeton, Jean Smith and husband, Joe, of Princeton and Doris Sherman of Ronceverte; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenbrier Regular Baptist Church, Ronceverte with Pastor Tim Dillon officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview cemetery, Ronceverte.
Friends and family may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Longanacre Funeral Home, Fairlea, and one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church. Pallbearers will be G.W. Raines, Cohen Jones, Mark S. Smith, Joe E. Smith, David E. Trout and John D. Trout. Honorary pallbearers include Louis Thomas, Hugh Barnwell and Bill Sturgell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Seneca Trail Christian Academy, 269 Seneca Trail South, Ronceverte, WV 24970.

William G. Tate
William G. Tate, 71, currently a resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, died after a long illness on Saturday, Nov. 19, at approximately 8 p.m. surrounded by his family. He had been a Beckley resident for most of his life.
Born June 12, 1934, at Pemberton, he was the son of the late James and Verta Tate of Sprague. Mr. Tate was preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Marie Michael of Beckley.
Survivors include two sons, Billy and Jimmy Tate, both of Florida; and two daughters, Susan Troppman of Washington and Terry Tate of Florida. Additionally, he leaves behind a sister, Pat Rogers of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Edward Tate of Winterhaven, Fla., and six grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Melton Mortuary, Beckley. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.
Friends and family may call 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning, Nov. 26.
Friends and family members will serve as pallbearers.

James Edward Terry Jr.
James Edward Terry Jr., 52, passed away at his home in Edgewood, Md., Nov. 17, 2005.
Born Dec. 14, 1952, Mr. Terry spent his childhood in Eccles, W.Va., and also was a former resident of Bolt. He was the son of the late James Edward Sr. and Virgie Cochran Terry.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dewey and Thelma Terry; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Edna Cochran and a great nephew, Ryan League.
Mr. Terry attended Trap Hill High School. He was formerly employed by Ranger Fuel, Westmoreland and Beckley Coal Companies, most recently being employed by Ryder Logistics Trucking Co. of Glen Burnie, Md. He was of the Christian faith.
He will be sadly missed by his loving daughters, Angela Terry Harvey and her husband, Richard, of Bolt, Ashley Terry of Edgewood, Md., and Miranda Blevins of Hanover, Pa.; devoted sons, James Edward Terry III of Blue Ridge, Va., and Christopher Hinchliff of Joppatown, Md.; seven wonderful grandchildren, Paige, Taylor, Triston, Rebecca, Matthew, Alexis and Jaydon; a loving sister, Alice League and her husband, Darrell, of Lester; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins who will cherish his memory. With loving memories, he will also be sadly missed by Brenda Terry, Dana Hinchliff and Harvella Collette.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Wallace York officiating. Burial will follow in the Trail cemetery, Surveyor.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of the service on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be John, David, and Harold League, Roger Pierce, Tommy Cochran and Gregory Terry.

Richard Dale Tilley
SABINE — Richard Dale Tilley departed this life Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at the age of 46 years, 10 months and 6 days, at Raleigh General Hospital.
Born Jan. 12, 1959, at Mullens, he was the son of Curtis and Joy Phillips Tilley.
Richard had worked at Piston No. 4 mines and Paul Phillips No. 4 at Bolt. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his daughter, Erica, and spending time with his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Brian Tilley; and four brothers, Kenneth Tilley, Jerry Tilley, Stevie Tilley and an infant brother.
Those left to mourn his passing are his parents, Curtis and Joy Tilley of Sabine; his loving wife of 24 years, Carla Tilley of Sabine; two daughters, Erica Tilley at home and Jillian Tilley of Brenton; a grandson, Nayaha Tilley of Brenton; two sisters, Rhonda Allen and her husband, Jackie, of Sabine, and Tammy Francis and her husband, Garrett, of Sabine; four brothers, Dukie Tilley and his companion, Joyce, David Tilley and his wife, Norma, Charlie Tilley and his wife, Sissy, and Porky Tilley and his companion, Janet, all of Sabine; several other family members, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ernest Frances officiating. Burial will follow in the Tilley cemetery, Twin Falls.

INDIAN MILLS — John A. Dosier, 86, died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at 1:40 p.m. at the Montgomery Elder Care at Montgomery following a long illness.
Born May 16, 1920, at Alderson, he was the son of the late Elwood and Sally Bryant Dosier.
John had lived most of his life at Indian Mills, and was a member of the Indian Mills Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Piney Smith, Marie Dosier and Abby Rhoads; and two infant sisters.
He is survived by several nephews; one niece and special friends, Osie and Elaine Flint of Ballard.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Steve Howdock and Darrell Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Mills cemetery.

Violet Elizabeth Ellison
Violet Elizabeth Ellison, age 88, of Beckley, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the Raleigh General Hospital comforted by her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters.
Born on April 18, 1918, at Besoco, she was the daughter of the late Frank E. Tankersley and Damie Lusk Tankersley.
She was a home-maker and was deeply devoted to her family. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Ellison; a daughter, Shelvie Jenkins; a brother, Billy Frank Tankersley, and a sister, Helen Jewell.
Those left with wonderful memories are her daughter, Sara Jane Angle and husband, Gary, of Beckley; granddaughters, Melissa Angle Young and husband, Jason, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Andrea Angle Lafferty and husband, Brian, of Vinton, Va.; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Casey and Whitnee Young, and Ellison, Taylor and Courtney Lafferty.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with the Rev. Allen Copenhaver officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Mary Fondale Interdonato
Mary Fondale Interdonato, age 89, of Beckley, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at a local hospital after a short illness.
Born March 27, 1917, at Slab Fork, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Dominica Gugliotta Fondale.
Mrs. Interdonato was a former employee of Cole Bakery in Beckley and later was a cook at St. Francis de Sales School, retiring after 23 years. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the Bereavement Committee at the church and was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Interdonato on March 1, 1987; two infant sisters and three brothers, Tony, Joe and Sam Fondale.
Survivors include her two sons, Pete Interdonato and his wife, Beverly, of Ripley, and Sam Interdonato of Beckley; her daughter, Elizabeth A. Interdonato of Beckley; two grandsons, Neil Interdonato and his wife, Tess, of Greensboro, N.C., and Craig Interdonato of Ripley; two sisters, Nellie Fondale of Beckley and Ann Cody of Rock Hill, S.C.; two brothers, John Fondale and his wife, Santa, of Folsom, Calif., and Phillip Fondale Jr. and his wife, Shirley, of Pleasant Hills; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral liturgy will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Beckley with the Rev. Samuel S. Sacus as celebrant. Rite of committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, where a Christian Wake service will be held at 8 p.m. by the Rev. Mr. Don Wise.
Pallbearers will be Neil and Craig Interdonato, Phillip, Wesley, Sam David, David Fondale, and Tony Tipane.
