BALTIMORE, Md. — Fletcher Johnson, 61, formerly of Beckley, died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at his residence following a long illness.

Georgia Vann Martin Jones

OAK HILL — Georgia Vann Martin Jones, 41, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, following an extended illness.

Born in Oak Hill, Oct. 21, 1964, she was the daughter of Ida Shockey Martin of Oak Hill, and the late Harry Martin.

Georgia was an avid bingo player in Fayetteville, Oak Hill and Bradley.

Survivors include a daughter, Brandy Renee Jones of Oak Hill; a grandson, Jacob Bowyer; two brothers, Clarence Lee Martin and Harry Wayne Martin, both of Oak Hill; three sisters, Joann Cox of Louisburg, N.C., Dorothy Dilley of Sheperdsville, Ky., and Linda Sears of Minden, and by a special niece, Carla Ervin.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Butch Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary Smith Lowe

FAYETTEVILLE — Mary Smith Lowe, 87, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Fayette Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Fayetteville, following an extended illness.

Born on July 20, 1918, at Clifftop, she was the daughter of the late John Smith and Sarah Effie Flint Smith.

Mrs. Lowe was a retired social worker with the WV Department of Health and Human Resources and received her nursing diploma from Montgomery General Hospital. She worked with Dr. Elias at the Hillside Clinic at Charlton Heights, the Montgomery General Hospital, and for Dr. Berkhead at the Gauley Clinic.

She was of the Baptist faith and she was a member of the Mary Ingles Hiking Club. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, working with flowers and traveling. She had made a number of embroidered quilts and many woven lap throws.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lowe II.

Survivors include her two sons, Roy Woodrow Lowe III of Flagler Beach, Fla., and Michael S. Lowe of Gauley Bridge; three grandchildren, Melissa Sonny, Sarah Neuman and Mary Henry; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lowe was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Pastor David Minturn officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Ansted.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Suites 6 &7, 301 RHL Blvd., Charleston, WV 25309.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Stephen H. Pilkington

CHICAGO, Ill. — Stephen H. Pilkington, 34, formerly of Hinton, died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, following a short illness.

Jody Lewis Puckett

CORINNE — Jody Lewis Puckett, 30, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 10, 2006, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on the Welch-Pineville Road.

Born Jan. 15, 1976, in Beckley, he was the son of “John” Gary Lewis and Sandra K. Blankenship Puckett.

Jody was a 1994 graduate of Mullens High School, a 2001 graduate of Bluefield State College with an Associate and Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, and was presently employed as a field technician for Specialized Technical Services.

In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, tennis, watching NASCAR Racing with his Dad, and spending time with family and friends and loved life.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Luther Gaylord Blankenship; his paternal grandparents, Thomas Lee Puckett Sr. and Betty Jean Smith Puckett; and two cousins, Ethan Benton and Noah Dustin Diehl.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving parents, John Gary and Sandra K. Blankenship Puckett; a sister, Stephanie Puckett at home; maternal grandmother, Janet Blankenship Meadows of Mullens; uncles and aunts, Donald Blankenship of Stephenson, Lisa Blankenship Lambert and her husband, Keith, of Pilot Mountain, N.C., Luther Jay Blankenship and his wife, Patricia, of Millville, Thomas L. Puckett Jr. and his wife, Shelia, of Coal City, Robert Puckett and his wife, Mary, of Coal City, Chester “Jake” Puckett and his wife, Barbara of Pilot Mountain, N.C., Fred “Boosie” Puckett of Coal City, and Judy Chafin and her husband, Stanley, of Coal City; special cousin, Luther Blankenship and numerous other cousins and many close friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Eskins officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Hayden, Chris Meadows, Chris Houck, Andrew Finney, Tommy Wikel, and Ashley McNeely.

Myrtle Payne Rodriguez

Myrtle Cora Payne Rodriguez of Greystone Dr., Beckley, died Sunday, June 11, 2006, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. She was 88 years of age.

Lloyd Fredrick Ruff Sr.

Lloyd Fredrick Ruff Sr., age 55, of Coal City, died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a long illness.

Born at Lawton, W.Va., on July 27, 1950, he was the son of the late Fred and Louise Redden Ruff.

Mr. Ruff was a former sawmill employee, and had last worked as a truck loader for a refrigeration company. He had made his home at Packs Branch for most of his life.

Mr. Ruff was preceded in death by brothers, Henry, Donald and David; and by sisters, Drema Kessler and Arlena McCoy.

Surviving are sons, Lloyd F. Ruff Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of Charlotte, N.C., and George Timothy Ruff and wife, Michelle, of Dill; daughters, Frances Louise Ruff of Clay, and Jenny Faye Ruff of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Jimmy Ray Ruff and wife, Zella, of Frankford; sisters, Bethelene Fitzpatrick of Newport News, Va., Martha Angle of Coal City, Hilda Mae Ruff of Mount Hope, and Wilda Gaye Adamini of Cleveland, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Committal service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Allen Copenhaver officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery.

Friends may call 10:30 a.m. until time of the service Wednesday at the mausoleum.

MULLENS — Pauline E. McGraw Stennett, 88, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Richmond, following a long illness.

WOLVERINE LAKE, Mich. — Larry Harold Utting Jr., 35, died Thursday, June 8, 2006.

Gracie Pearl White

DRY CREEK — Gracie Pearl White, 78, of Dry Creek, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at her home, following a long illness.

She was born Aug. 24, 1927, at Marfork, a daughter of the late James “Jim” and Lottie Pettry Alderman.

She was a member of the Dry Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse White; a son, Robert Lee White; brothers, Dell, Ira, Albert and Little Harm Alderman; sisters, Lora Webb, Retta Brown, Barbara Underwood, Bessie Underwood, Sylvia Price, and three infant sisters; and a grandson, Jerry Lee White.

She is survived by three daughters, Betty Taylor and husband, C.B. “Chuck,” of Fayette, Ala., Phyllis White of Dry Creek, and Kathy Bone and husband, Phillip, also of Dry Creek; two sons, Willard Orville White and wife, Mary Lou “Betty,” of Hickory, N.C., and Jesse “James” White and wife, Brenda, of Hinton; a sister, Juanita Alderman of Dry Creek; a brother, Alvis “Earl” Alderman of Dry Creek; a sister-in-law, Minnie Pearl Alderman of Dry Creek; several grandchildren, some she reared; several great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express special thanks to the nursing staff at Raleigh General Hospital and to Dr. I.F. Salon and his staff for the care they gave to our mother.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations of sympathy be made to Arnett Chapel, Arnett, or Dry Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Dry Creek, or Naoma Freewill Baptist Church, Naoma.

Funeral service will be 12 noon today at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Revs. David Cook and Roger Mullins officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Visitation was held from 6 until 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Workman

GLEN ROGERS — Helen Workman, 66, of Glen Rogers, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, in a Beckley hospital.

Born Jan. 2, 1939, at Uno, she was the daughter of the late Garland “Bud” and Stella F. Brinegar Carter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Arley, Roy and Roger Carter.

Mrs. Workman was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Workman and his wife, Brenda of Bolt, Christopher Workman of Bolt, and Ricky Workman of Huntington; three daughters, Donna Blankenship and her husband, William C. Blankenship Sr., of Glen Rogers, Michelle Justus and her husband, Carl, of Kopperston, and Beatrice Livingston and her husband, Charles, of Pineville; three brothers, Danny Carter and his wife, Darlene, of Glen Fork, Clinton “Bill” Carter of Glen Fork, and Eddie Carter and his wife, Wanda, of Glen Fork; four sisters, Bobbie Perry and her husband, Bill, of Cyclone, Janice Jesse and her husband, Everette, of Bud, Carol Mudgett and her husband, Gordon, of Moab, Utah, and Dorothy Brooks and her husband, Ronald, of Oak Hill; a sister-in-law, Mary Carter of Mullens; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Revs. Firg Proffitt and Pete Cresong officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Evans Funeral Home of Oceana is serving the Workman family.

Wayne Blankenship

MOUNT HOPE — Wayne Blankenship, 61, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at his home of a sudden heart attack.

Born Aug. 17, 1945, he was the son of Gene and Irene Blankenship.

Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Wayne was a maintenance director at Cranberry Woods housing complex.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Margaret Lilly Blankenship; daughters, Jodi Farley and husband, Joe, of Cool Ridge and Brandi Blankenship of Beaver; grandsons, Mason Wayne Farley of Cool Ridge and Elijah Alan Lester of Beaver; former son-in-law, Gregory Lester of Cool Ridge; sisters, Loretta McMillion and husband, Vic, of Glade Springs, Kathy Ward and husband, Kenny, of Dry Hill and Jill Blankenship of Beaver; and brother, Carson Blankenship and wife, Joyce, of Prosperity.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Mike Gunnoe officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be Greg Lester, Joe Farley, Bruce Meadows, Kenny Ward, Earl Kenneda and Greg Fournier.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
