Huldia Z. Mahone, 97, of Charleston and Beckley, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before service Saturday at the funeral home.

Robert Lee Painter

SCARBRO — Robert Lee Painter, 69, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at his home following a brief illness.

Born Nov. 22, 1935, in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Harold J. and Georgia Carpenter Painter.

Mr. Painter was a custodial/ maintenance worker for the Fayette County Board of Education.

He was a U.S. Navy and U.S. Army veteran, having served on the USS Braine off the coast of Korea.

His companion, Dorothy Meadows, and a brother, Everett Painter, preceded him in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Roberta Mercer and husband, John, of Tucson, Ariz., Rose Hughes and husband, Donald, of Ida, Mich., and Linda Kardia and Patti of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a brother, Dan Painter of Ypsilanti, Mich.; two sisters, Betty Burford of Ypsilanti and Jean Tyree of Austintown, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside rites and committal will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at Pax Community cemetery with the Rev. Ron Sears officiating. Burial will follow with military rites being conducted by VFW Post No. 3110 of Oak Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, WV Division, 301 RHL Blvd., Stations 6 & 7, Charleston, WV, 25311.

Rachel A. Shumate

NEW RICHMOND — Rachel A. Shumate, 85, of Mullens, died in Wyoming Continuous Care Center on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005.

Tilden T. Siers

CARL — Tilden T. Siers, 78, of Carl, passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2005 at Genesis Health Care Center at White Sulphur Springs following a long illness.

Born April 30, 1927, at Carl, he was a son of the late Charles Wesley and Melissa C. Nutter Siers.

Mr. Siers was a member of Mountain Baptist Church at Carl, and a member of UMWA District No. 19 as a coal miner.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Brown Siers, in 1983; two sisters, Lois McFarland and Ressie Morrison; and two brothers Isaac “Phil” Siers and Elden E. Siers.

Survivors include a son, John W. Siers of Rainelle; and a sister, Olive Ramsey of Charleston.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at Mountain Baptist Church, Carl, with the Rev. Houston Boothe officiating. Burial will follow in Fields cemetery, Nettie.

Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the church. There will be no evening visitation.

Ercelle Marie Courington Simpson

Ercelle Marie Courington Simpson, formerly of West Virginia, passed away at home in Miami, Fla., on Nov. 10, 2005, after a one-year battle with lung cancer.

ERWIN, Tenn. — Anna E. Lewis Stratton, 92, formerly of Mullens, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, in Erwin Healthcare Center in Tennessee.

Dr. Everett B. Wray Jr.

Dr. Everett B. Wray Jr. of Beckley died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005.

Memorial service will be noon Saturday, Dec. 3, at First Christian Church, Beckley. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to noon at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests, memorial contributions be made to the Beckley Area Foundation or Mac’s Toy Fund.

Roger Basham, 55, of Coal City, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005.

Louise M. Davis Blankenship

Louise M. Davis Blankenship, 78, of MacArthur, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Nov. 27, 2005.

Louise was born May 11, 1927, in Beckley. She was the biological daughter of the late Garnett and Carrie Clyburn Short, who passed when she was a toddler, and the adoptive daughter of the late Clarence and Brooke Wright.

Louise was a member of the Regular Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She loved gardening and growing beautiful roses.

She graduated from Clear Fork High School and worked for Embies and Montgomery Ward.

In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin Davis, and two brothers, Coe Allen and Blaine Wright.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 33 years, John Blankenship; a daughter, Kathy Bowles and husband, Rick, of Aikin, S.C.; two sons, Calvin G. Davis and wife, Peggy, of Richlands, Va., and Charles Davis and wife, Nancy, of Beckley; two brothers, James Wright and wife, Ruth, of Charleston and David Wright and wife, Janet, of Beckley; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Pastors Jason Knapp and Chris Grimstead officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Tabor cemetery.

Friends may gather with the family 1 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.

Samuel J. Darius ‘Butch’ Cassity

Butch Cassity, 31, of Beckley, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005.

Born June 3, 1974, he was the son of Charlotte Cassity of Crab Orchard and Jack Cassity of Mabscott.

Butch spent his childhood at Mabscott. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1992.

He began his career as a correctional officer at Mount Olive Correctional Complex. He was also a longtime employee of Verizon.

He was of the Baptist faith. In his leisure time he enjoyed spending time with his precious children, fishing and outdoor activities. He was an avid Mountaineers fan.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Roy McDaniel of Grandview; and his grandparents, James and Daisy Cassity of Mabscott.

Survivors include his children, Tyler Cassity and Alex Cassity of Crab Orchard, the loves of his life; his sister, Jackie Cassity of Glen Jean and Robin Cassity Bailey of Brooksville, Fla.; his niece, Jennifer Bailey of Florida; and his grandmother, Rita McDaniel of Grandview.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Vondie Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Doug McDaniel, Steven McDaniel, Rusty Simmons, Mike Simmons, Brian Simmons and Matt Lester.

Julia Maggio Cipolat

Julia Maggio Cipolat, 87, of 100 Hull St., Beckley, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005.

She was born April 18, 1918, in Stickney, a daughter of the late Francesco and Christina Maggio.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marco Gotet Cipolat, in September 1970; and her sisters, Anna Williams, Dollie Sowers and Addie Stone.

Julia was a lifelong West Virginian. She graduated from Marsh Fork High School. During her 60 years in Beckley, she was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing. She was known for her outstanding cooking, especially her Italian foods.

Julia is survived by her daughter, Trina Banco and her husband, John, of Bluefield; and her sons, Frank and his wife, Carolyn, of Liberty and Mike and his wife, Mary Lynn, of Beckley.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Steve Banco and his wife, Wendy, of Washington, Pa., Mark Cipolat Banco of New York, N.Y., Stacy Hawkins and her husband, David, of Liberty and Ilora, Erin and Rachel Cipolat, all of Charleston; five great-grandchildren, Trey, Jax, Ty and Jase Banco of Washington, Pa., and Jared Hawkins of Liberty; her brother, Mike Maggio and his wife, Inez, of Charleston; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 626 S. Oakwood Ave., Beckley, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

The family suggests memorial donations to be made to Hospice of America, P.O. Box 6364, Bluefield, WV 24701, or to the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 626 S. Oakwood Ave., Beckley, WV 25801.
