LOCHGELLY — Opal O. Thorne, 79, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at Hilltop Health Care Center.
Born on Jan. 24, 1927, at Ramp, Summers County, she was the daughter of the late Pete Jeffries and Etta Frances Jeffries.
Opal loved gardening, especially flowers, and she had a great love for children.
She was preceded in death by her son, Benny Ray Thorne; four sisters, Josephine, Armel Maxine, Beaulah Cameron and Betty Morris; and four brothers, Earl, Clarence, Har-old and Carl “Buzzy” Jeffries.
Survivors include her daughter, Nelma Jean “Sally” Thorne; five sisters, Pauline Richmond, Mabel Jeffries, Frankie Redden, Norma Thompson and husband, Tommy, and Barbara “June” Shaffer and husband, Leslie; and two brothers, Billy Jeffries and wife, Shelby, and Arvel Jeffries and wife, Dreama.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hilltop Center for their kindness and dedication to Mrs. Thorne.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Robert Morey officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Everett William Vaughn Jr.
JUDSON — Everett William “Bill” Vaughn Jr., 64, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at his home after a brief illness.
Born July 14, 1941, on Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of Mary Marguerite Thompson Vaughn of Columbia, Md., and the late Everett W. Vaughn Sr.
Bill was retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Hunt Valley, Md., having last worked in the Human Resources Department at the company. He was a former resident of Stewartstown, Pa. Bill purchased a farm at Judson and moved to enjoy “country living.” Bill enjoyed farming the last 15 years that he spent at Judson. He was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Patrick Parish in Hinton. He always gave his time and efforts to anyone in need and was active in the Summers County 4-H program. He was the secretary of the Summers County Farmland Protection Board, and was a former member of the Farm Bureau. He was current member of the Ballengee Farm Club. He was a former volunteer at Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg and also volunteered at Loaves and Fishes in Hinton. He was a member of the Friends of the Summers County Library. He adored his family and especially his grandchildren, all of whom were very dear to him.
Besides his mother, other survivors include a son, Adam Vaughn and wife, Katherine, of Hanover, Md.; a daughter, Amy Schiano of Niwot, Colo.; two sisters, Marjorie Eastman of Granola, Kan., and Sarah Martinson of St. Lake City, Utah; four grandchildren, Emma, Noah and Calvin Vaughn and Milan Cerny; and two aunts, Jimmie Madden of Miami, Kan., and Helen Sprague of Granola, Kan.
Funeral Liturgy will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with Father Arthur Bufogle officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Granola, Kan.
Friends may call noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Summers County 4-H, 97 Park Ave., Hinton, WV 25951.

Kelly Reece Wells
FANROCK — Kelly Reece Wells, 31, died suddenly Wednesday, April 5, 2006.
Born Oct. 19, 1974, in McDowell County, he was the son of Terry and Ruth Bradford Wells of Fanrock.
Mr. Wells was a truck driver and a 1993 graduate of Pineville High School. He enjoyed fishing, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Carles Bradford Sr.; paternal grandfather, Charles Wells; an uncle, Carles Bradford Jr.; and a great-grandmother, Lillian Jewell.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Crystal Ritchie Wells of Pineville; a son, Tyler Chase Wells of Fanrock; a sister, Amanda St. Clair and her husband, Eddie Lee, of Mooresville, N.C.; maternal grandmother, Betty Bradford of Fanrock; paternal grandmother, Norma Jean Wells of Lillydale; and a nephew, Brady Lee St. Clair of Mooresville.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Bill Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Pallbearers will be Harvey Gentry Jr., James McNew, Amon Stanley Jr., Alfred Belcher, Charlie Johnson and Jim Toler.

Anna E. Lewis Stratton
Anna E. Lewis Stratton, 92, formerly of Unicoi, Tenn., died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, in the Erwin Health Care Center. She was a native of Wyoming County.
Mrs. Stratton had spent her latter years in Unicoi since moving from Mullens in 1990. She was a daughter of the late J. Andy and Sarah V. Sizemore Wood.
Mrs. Stratton retired in 1978 as owner-operator of Stratton’s Inc., Mullens, after 30 years of service. She was a member of Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Otho F. Lewis, and her second husband, Samuel M. Stratton; three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, G. Ray and Zeny Lewis of San Diego, Calif., and Larry Dave and Margaret Lewis of Grey, Tenn.; two daughters and son-in-law, Shirley J. McKinney of Covel and Norma A. and Fred Johnson of Lincolnton, N.C.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Beatrice and Tank Tankersley, Josephine and Bob McMullin, all of Coal City; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three stepgrandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, with interment to follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Elder Jerry McGrady will officiate.

Hazel Ann Walthall
FOREST HILL — Hazel Ann Walthall, 94, of Forest Hill, died Friday morning, Nov. 25, 2005, in Summers County ARH in Hinton following a long illness.
Born Oct. 7, 1911, at Blake, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Harriett Pennington Mitchen.
Ms. Walthall was a homemaker and a graduate of Hinton High School, Class of 1931.
She was a member of Roles Chapel Baptist Church at Forest Hill. She was a former treasurer and clerk for the church, as well as serving as Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Women’s Mission Circle at Roles Chapel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan H. “Bill” Walthall, on Sept. 28, 2001, and a sister, Ruth Wade.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane Turner and husband, Earl, of Forest Hill and Martha Morgan and husband, Victor, of Hinton; four grandchildren, Billy Turner and wife, Linda, of Forest Hill, Vic Morgan and wife, Kim, of Lewisburg, Scott Morgan of Hinton and Melissa Lively of Hinton; and six great-grandchildren, Brad, Zack and Josh Morgan, all of Lewisburg, and Kelsie, Jacob and Logan Lively, all of Hinton.
A celebration of Ms. Walt-hall’s life will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Roles Chapel Baptist Church, Forest Hill, with Pastor Jeff Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

RICHWOOD — Dorothy Lou Williams, 68, a lifelong resident of Richwood, lost her battle to Lou Gehrig’s Disease on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, at Richwood Area Community Hospital.
She was a member of World Wide Church of God, Summersville. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She cleaned houses, worked at BF Goodrich and was a nurse’s aide at McClung Hospital, Richwood.
She was one of triplets born to George Roy and Maggie Spence Persinger. She was preceded in death by her son, William Douglas Williams; and her parents, George Roy and Maggie Spence Persinger.
Survivors include her husband, William Charles “Bill” Williams; a son, Danny Lee and wife, Gina Williams, of Richwood; a daughter, Darlene Cowell and fiancé, David Kyer, of Richwood; four grandchildren, Shanda Nicole Cowell, Daniel Tylor Williams, Austin Blake Kyer and Caleb Douglas Williams; two brothers, Donnie Persinger of Richwood and Charles Persinger of Canvas; and four sisters, Betty Faulkner of Richwood, triplet, Shirley Persinger of Richwood, triplet, Phyllis Bailes of Richwood, and Mary Walton of Summersville.

Born Jan. 1, 1952, in Paintsville, Ky., she was the daughter of Norma Jean Castle Haney of Paintsville, Ky., and the late Elmer Haney Sr.
Mrs. Blair was a retired L.P.N.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Haney Sr., and a brother, Elmer Haney Jr.
