Ethel Pack Caulkins

Ethel Pack Caulkins, 65, of Shady Spring, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at her home, following a long illness.

Born at Glen Morgan on Oct. 12, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Jesse G. Pack and Nollie Daniel Pack.

She was of the Christian faith. She had made her home at Shady Spring for the past six years. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and friend. She was a person who always put others first.

She was preceded in death by brothers, John and Philip J. Vest; a sister, Lillie Burns; and a grandson, Robbie Finch.

Survivors include her husband Robert Caulkins; daughters, Vanessa Gatliff and fiance Wayne Sandifer of Jacksonville, Fla., and Rhonda and Griffin Crook of Loganville, Ga.; son, Brian Finch and wife Patricia of Hickory, N.C.; brothers, Jessie Pack and wife Helen of Shady Spring, Mickey Pack and wife Diana of Eccles, Charles Pack and wife Virginia of Shady Spring, and James Pack and friend Irene Hunley of Ansted; sisters, Ann Buhrman of Shady Spring, Judy Basham of Blue Jay, and Nellie Hilton of Ghent; 26 nieces and nephews and their families; a sister-in-law, Erma Vest; grandchildren, Paul, Lisa, Kay-Leigh, Magen, Jonathan, and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Landon; and friend, Henrietta Rose of Shady Spring.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel, with Elder Tommy Pack and Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. View cemetery at Mt. View.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Sandifer, Griff Crook, Gene Kessler, and other family and friends.

Freddie Lilly

ELLISON — Freddie Lilly, 70, died 10 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2006, in the Charleston Area Medical Center following a short illness.

Born Nov. 6, 1935, at Ellison, he was the son of the late Kennet and Thelma Mae Farley Lilly.

Mr. Lilly was a lifelong resident of Ellison and a member of the Ellison Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Mae Lilly; and three brothers, Clifford Abe, Eddie Lee and Lester B. Lilly.

Survivors include five brothers, Clarence Oley, Edward Lee, and Aldie B. Lilly of Ellison, Boone Dawson Lilly of Lexington, N.C., and Donald Ray Lilly of Beaver; five sisters, Cleo Lilly of Crow, Hettie and Bonnie Mae Lilly of Ellison, Mary Ann Cole of Norfolk, Va., and Mabel Wills of Raleigh, W.Va.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with the Rev. Richard Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly Family cemetery at Ellison.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral parlor.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

MULLENS — Mildred J. Morgan, 78, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.

Nettie King Sessler of Beckley passed away Saturday, March 25, 2006. She was 91 years of age.

Eddie Setliff, 70, of Cool Ridge, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at the Charleston Area Medical Center General Division following a short illness.

Russell K. Shorter

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Russell K. Shorter, 93, of Fredericksburg, Va., formerly of Hinton, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, in Fredericksburg, Va., following a long illness.

Robert Lee Simms

RUSSELLVILLE — Robert Lee Simms, 82, went home to be with the Lord and his loved ones, after a long illness, early Sunday morning, March 26, 2006.

Born Aug. 24, 1923, at Rainelle, he was the son of the late Tony and Emily Crookshanks Simms.

Mr. Simms had worked at Meadow River Lumber Company for many years stacking lumber in the lumber yard, at Elkem Metals as a pipe fitter for 35 years, and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II, and was of the Baptist faith.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mae Simms; and three brothers, Luther, Winfield, and Howard Simms.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, “Polly” Hanshew Simms of Russellville; a daughter, Dottie Huddleston and husband, Jacob, of MacArthur; three sons, Dennis Simms and wife, Cammie, of Hilton Village, Kenny Simms and wife, Bonnie, of Corliss, and Michael Simms and wife, Norma, of Corliss; a sister, Ruth Peterson and husband, Bob, of Ogden, Utah; a brother, Mont Simms and wife, Ruby, of Rainelle; eight grandchildren, Jeff Crist of Charleston, Greg Crist of Pickerington, Ohio, Jeremy Simms and wife, Andrea, of Martinsburg, W.Va., Andy Simms of Hilton Village, W.Va., Chris Simms and wife, Von, of Ansted, Brian Simms of Corliss, Bethany Simms of Corliss, and Benjamin Simms of Corliss; and two great-grandchildren, Alex Crist of Charleston, and Josiah Simms of Ansted.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Gene Bennett officiating, and assisted by Chris Simms. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens at Victor.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Donita Woodson

OAK HILL — Donita Woodson, 46, of Oak Hill, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2006, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Sheldon Rufus Wood

DAVISON, Mich. — Sheldon Rufus Wood, 75, of Davison, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at McLaren Regional Medical Center.

Service was 11 a.m. Friday at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Flint, Mich., with Pastor Roger VanDonkelaar officiating. Interment followed at Crestwood Memorial cemetery.

Sheldon was born Dec. 1, 1929, at Flat Top, the youngest child of Posey B. and Clara E. (Lawson) Wood.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Sheldon retired from General Motors in 1983 after 30 years of service as a blacksmith. He was a member of UAW Local No. 1292 and the Disabled American Veterans, Burton Chapter No. 3.

Sheldon leaves to cherish his memory three children, Shelly Wood and husband, Dan Gunter, of Holt, Mich., Kenneth Wood and wife, Michelle, of Goodrich, Mich., and Lynn and husband, Patrick, of Grand Ledge, Mich.; four grandchildren, Jake (13), Krysten (5), Rhiannon (3) and Letti (2); wife, Joan; three brothers, Orville Wood and wife, Pauline, of Grand Blanc, Mich., Donzie Wood of Burton, Mich., and Bernard Wood and wife, Freda, of West Virginia; Nola Lane of Virginia; and many friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, John, Adrian, Clemon, Glen, Palmer, Ordelia and Ornie.

Sheldon enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, tinkering with tractors and sharing his sense of humor with those around him. The family wishes to thank Sheldon’s special friend, Lea Tithof, the caring and compassionate staff at McLaren Regional Medical Center, Dr. Brian Bhagat, and an extra special thanks to Sheldon’s friend, Dr. Geeta Rode.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Lung Association.

Bonnie Loretta ‘Bonnie Lee’ Woods

FAYETTEVILLE — Bonnie Loretta “Bonnie Lee” Woods, 62, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, following a short illness.

Born Aug. 22, 1943, at Plum Orchard, she was the daughter of the late Sammie Woods and Monnie Sparks Hall.

Bonnie attended Gatewood Church of God. She was a self-employed beautician and enjoyed playing bingo.

Besides her parents, she was preceded death by her son, Daniel Smith; a sister, Ida Bell Ransom; and a half sister, Darlena Bush.

Survivors include her three sisters, Stella A. Bragg and her husband, James, of Oak Hill, Nancy L. Nobblet of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Jeanetta Jean Parsons of Missouri; two brothers, Sammie L. Woods Jr. of Missouri and Charles Alex Woods and his wife, Christine, of Millville, N.J., and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Morris Nutter and the Rev. Jackie Pittman officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of arrangements.

Christopher Edward ‘Chris’ Workman

Christopher Edward “Chris” Workman, 34, of Bolt, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at his sister’s home in Glen Rogers.

Born Jan. 9, 1971, at Mullens, he was the son of the late Robert “Vinson” Workman and Helen Jean Carter Workman, who passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005.

Chris was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his companion of over three years, Evelyn Muehleisen of Bolt; two brothers, Robert Workman and his wife, Brenda, of Bolt and Ricky Workman of Huntington; three sisters, Beatrice Livingston and her husband, Charles, of Pineville, Michelle Justus and her husband, Carl, of Kopperston and Donna Blankenship and her husband, Billy, of Glen Rogers; a stepgranddaughter, 4-year-old Kianna Morris of Martinsburg; 15 nieces and nephews; and three great-nephews.

Joint service with his mother will be 1 p.m. today at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Revs. Firg Proffitt and Pete Cresong officiating. Burial will follow in Carter cemetery, Barkers Ridge, Mullens.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call noon until time of service today at the funeral home.

Evans Funeral Home, Oceana, is serving the Workman family.

Scott Russell Bandy

WINONA — Scott Russell Bandy, 33, passed away Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at his home following a long illness.

Born Dec. 10, 1971, in Warren, Ohio, he was the son of Har-old G. Ban-dy and Linda E. Roland Bandy of Winona.

He was a member of Keeney’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Winona, and graduated from Midland Trail High School. He worked as plant manager for Crown Vinyl Products before becoming disabled. He loved spending time with his family and he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gordon L. Bandy and Samantha I. Bandy; and maternal grandparents, Teary Roland and Richard G. Roland.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Sonya Lea Bandy; two daughters, Katrina Brooke Bandy and Brittany Lynn Bandy, both at home; his dog, Jake; parents, Harold G. Bandy and Linda E. Bandy of Winona; and a sister, Kimberly L. McQuerrey and her husband, Paul, of Winona.

Memorial service will be at a later date. Scott’s request was that his body be donated to the West Virginia University Human Gift Registry.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory, to be put in a fund for his daughters, in care of Sonya Bandy, P.O. Box 8, Winona, WV 25942.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of arrangements.
