Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert. Friends may call 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Luther H. Lusk

CYCLONE — Luther H. Lusk, 68, departed this life Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at his residence following a short illness.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Helen Kish McCluskey

Helen Kish McCluskey, 101, of Beckley, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at home.

She was born Jan. 18, 1905, in Dante, Va.; she was the daughter of the late Gazel and Theresa Kish.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cooper McCluskey; her son, Francis Patrick McCluskey; sisters, Mary Dermont, Anna Novak and Frances Getchen; brothers, Gazel Kish, Leo Kish and Alex Kish; grandson, Harold Symonds; granddaughter, Mary Pat Symonds; and great-grandson, Matthew Evans.

She is survived by her daughter, Gladys Symonds of Beckley; three granddaughters, Linda Walker and her husband, David, of Kingwood, Texas, Patricia Davis of Henderson, Ky., and Marcia Evans and her husband, Harry, of Beckley; two brothers, Joseph Kish and his wife, Annie, of Midway and Ernest Kish of Manassas, Va.; and sister-in-law, Eva Kish of Beckley; six great-grandchildren, Rachael Kleczkowski of Sugar Land, Texas, Keith Walker of Kingwood, Texas, Leslie Davis of Henderson, Ky., Mark Evans and John Paul Evans of Beckley and Sarah Massey of Huntington; a great-great-granddaughter, Emily Lydon of Johnson City, Tenn.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was the oldest member of Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Beckley and a member of The Ladies of St. Francis.

Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Samuel Sacus and the Rev. Perry Malacaman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, where a vigil prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Mr. Don Wise.

Pallbearers will be Mark Evans, John Paul Evans, Nick Massey, Jimmy Peterson, Russ Weeks and Lonnie Smith.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV or Saint Francis deSales Catholic Church or School, 626 S. Oakwood Ave., Beckley, WV 25801.

Edith Joann Brinegar, 73, of Beckley, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, following a long illness.

RICH CREEK, Va. — Beda F. Dunn, 95, of Rich Creek, Va., passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2006.

PRINCETON — Rebecca S. Edwards, 75, of Princeton, formerly of Garwood, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Princeton.

Thomas Ray Hamilton

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. — Thomas Ray Hamilton, 51, was tragically taken from his family and friends Monday, Feb. 6, 2006.

Tom was a very loving father, son, brother, and uncle. He had great passion and love for his family and friends. He was a successful business owner of a professional painting company in Quakertown, Pa. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Born June 1, 1954, the son of the late Burlin Hamilton and Romanza Cantley Hamilton of Oak Hill.

Besides his mother, those left to cherish his memory are his son, Thomas Ray Hamilton Jr. of Quakertown, Pa.; daughter, Jessica Michelle Hamilton Green of Coopersburg, Pa.; their mother, Frances Gross Hamilton of Quakertown, Pa.; daughter, Cheri Lynn Hamilton Hagan of Peterstown, Va.; grandchildren, Isaiah and Breanna Hagan of Peterstown, Va.; brothers, Ed Hamilton and wife, Tronda, of Sanger, Sam Hamilton and wife, Brenda, of Oak Hill, Rocky Hamilton and wife, Diane, of Danese, Malcolm Hamilton and wife, Kim, of Dothan, and Danny Hamilton and wife, Michelle, of Princeton; sisters, Carol Hamilton Chittum and husband, Vernon, of Oak Hill, and Linda Hamilton Casey and husband, Stan, of Oak Hill; 15 nephews and eight nieces; and dear friend, Katherine Bitting of Quakertown, Pa.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church in Oak Hill with the Rev. Daniel Rice and Pastor Vernon Chittum officiating. Burial will follow in the Cantley and Hurt cemetery at Sanger.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel.

Ramon N. Reed

AMIGO — Ramon N. Reed, 73, of Amigo, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, in a Reidsville, N.C., hospital, following a long illness.

Born March 19, 1932, at Amigo, he was the son of the late Harvey and Dora (Reed) Reed.

Ramon was a 25-year resident of Amigo and for the past year and a half had been a resident of Reidsville, N.C. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a cook, he was a former factory worker in Cleveland, Ohio, was of the Baptist faith, and was an ordained Baptist minister.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his ex-wife, Suzie Reed; four sisters, Lucy McKinney, Lillie Milam, Vocie Reed, and Stella Reed; and three brothers, Ernest, Robert, and Charles G. Reed.

Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Geneva Reed of Ashland, Ohio; a son, Levi John Reed of Monroeville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Amber, Britany, Maggie and Nathan; two nieces with whom he resided in Reidsville, N.C., Edith Whitkey and Betty Buskirk; and six nieces and seven nephews.

Services will be 12 noon Tuesday at Madeline Baptist Church, Amigo, with the Rev. Keith Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Reed cemetery, Reed Town.

Friends may call 10 a.m. until noon Tuesday at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Elvia Jane Cole St. Clair

OAK HILL — Elvia Jane Cole St. Clair, 63, of Oak Hill, formerly of Beckley, passed away Feb. 10, 2006, at the Ansted Center in Ansted.

Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Ansted is in charge of the arrangements.

Lena Tilley

On Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, Lena Tilley of Murrells Inlet, S.C., formerly of Westwood Drive, Beckley, passed away in Waccamaw Community Hospital. She was in her 98th year.

Born Lena Cornelia Neal on Feb. 23, 1907, in Green-ville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Sarah Neal.

Lena spent her childhood in Tennessee. She was the valedictorian of William Ritter High School, Class of 1927. Before her marriage to the late Verlie Tilley who died in 1980, she lived at Maben. A resident of Westwood Drive since 1951, she had lived on Temple Street in the mid-1940s. In 2001 she moved to South Carolina to be near her daughter and son-in-law. Lena was of the Christian faith. She was a beloved Mother, mother-in-law and grandmother.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her only child, Polly Lock, in 2004; a brother, Charles Neal, and a sister, Margie Bowman, and a niece, Dottie Harvey Chandler.

Survivors include her son-in-law, John Lock of Murrells Inlet; a granddaughter, Sharon Tilden and her husband, Robert, of Oakland, N.J.; sister-in-law, Kathryn Neal of Las Vegas, Nev.; and nephews, Okey Harvey of Maple Meadows, and David Bowman, and a niece, Gail Long, both of Ringgold, Ga.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. David Trump officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum at Beckley.

Friends may call from 12 noon until time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Donations of sympathy can be made to the Beckley Area Foundation, 129 Main St., Suite 203, Beckley, WV 25801.

Ronald ‘Ron’ W. Vance, Sr.

CALDWELL — Ronald “Ron” W. Vance, Sr., 58, of Caldwell, passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at his home, following injuries received from a heavy equipment accident.

Mr. Vance was born March 21, 1947, near Caldwell, and was the son of Mary Wickline Vance Kronser of Lewisburg, and the late Grover William Vance.

Ron was a self-employed certified logger, attended Highland Park United Methodist Church, Beckley Elks Lodge, Beckley Moose Lodge, and was an Army veteran.

Other than his father, he was preceded in death by his adopted father, Cliff Vance; and a sister, Wanda Bennett.

Survivors include special friend, Norma Vance of Second Creek; adopted mother who raised him, Gladys Dalton Vance of Caldwell; mother, Mary Kronser of Lewisburg; daughters, Rhonda Vance of Herndon and Amanda Vance of Beckley; a son, Ronald W. Vance Jr. of Caldwell; a grandchild, Kelton Hubbard of Second Creek; sisters, Donna Perkins and her husband Jeff of Caldwell and Doris Reed of Pickaway; half brothers, Grover Vance Jr. of Union and Golden Vance of Union; half sister, Dreama Mankins of Hickory, N.C.; special cousins, Jeannie Houseworth of Marion, Ohio, and Shirley Nolty of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Highland Park United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mike Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and may call anytime at the residence of Gladys Vance.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Highland Park United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Bobby Carter, RR2, Box 55B, Second Creek, WV 24974.

GILBERT — Joseph Harley Walls Sr., 84, of Gilbert, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2006.

Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 6 until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Eugene Alfred Young, 84, of Silver Spring, Md., formerly of Beckley, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, in Silver Spring, Md.

Mattie B. Walters

Mattie B. Walters, 84, of 311 Barber Ave., Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at BARH following an extended illness.

Born Dec. 21, 1921, in Covington, Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jones and Bessie Jones.

Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Cornelius, Clinton, William, Gus, Thomas and Paul; sister, Oralee; son, Anthony “Scrap”; grandson, Anthony Ray; nephew, Kenneth Jr. and Lorraine; niece, Carolyn; sister-in-law, Juanita Jones; and uncle, Henry Jones.

Survivors include a son, Robert Clifford Jones and wife, Leanne, of Hawaii; daughter, Barbara Walters of Beckley; special grandson, Mitch Walters, other grandsons, Lamont, Michael, Kevin and Lavar; granddaughters, Angel Lawson, Cheryl and Tiffany; special nephew, Franklin Borders; great-granddaughter-in-law, Rahiska Walters; three brothers, Lawrence Jones of Beckley, Steve Henry Jones and wife, Rose, of Columbus, Ohio, and Lorraine Jones of Beckley; two sisters, Lucy Borders and husband, Kenneth, of Beckley and Patricia Irvin of Columbus; and a host of other great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Matthew A.M.E. Church, 103 Mills Ave., Beckley, with the Rev. Abner Wright officiating.

Friends may call one hour before service Sunday at the church.

Services entrusted to Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.
