MARLINTON — Arch G. Wooddell, 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Marlinton United Methodist Church. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. today at VanReenen Funeral Home, Marlinton.

Mildred Deaette Buckner Hearn

Mildred Deaette Eller Buckner Hearn. Born March 2, 1925, in Amigo, W.Va. She is the daughter of the late Maggie Bell Shumate Eller and Zack Eller, both parents formerly of North Carolina.

She is the last surviving sibling of Zack and Maggie Eller. She is the widow of Andrew V. (AV) Buckner of Meade, W.Va., who was killed in France during WWII. She is the former wife of Lawrence V. Hearn of Beckley, W.Va.

She grew up in Wyoming County and lived in Raleigh County until 1964 when she moved to Northern Virginia. She was married to her first husband Andrew (AV) Buckner, formerly of Meade, W.Va., formerly of Monterey, Tenn. They were married in 1943 in Beckley, W.Va. AV was killed in action in 1944 in France during WWII.

She married her second husband, Lawrence V. Hearn, of Beckley, W.Va., formerly of Bluefield/Princeton, W.Va. They were married in 1954 in Beckley, W.Va. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1995.

Ms. Hearn is currently survived by her son, Roger Dale Buckner of Alexandria, Va., who is also a former resident of Raleigh County. Other survivors include several sisters-in-laws, Anna Stewart, Eller Holly, Lilly Buckner Hargis, Georgia Buckner Phillips and Goldie Hearn Ivan; two brothers-in-law, Jesse Buckner and Thomas Buckner; one half brother, Carlos Eller; and six half sisters, Joyce, Evelyn, Margaret, Margie, Louise and Mary.

Ms. Hearn died on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, after a lengthy cardiovascular illness at her son’s home in Alexandria, Va.

The daughter of a West Virginia Coal Miner, she worked at the coal miners company store several years during the ’40s. During the ’70s and ’80s, she worked at Horizon House Grocery Store, first as a cashier and became manager for several years. She then worked at the Deli in Alexandria, Va., for several years and retired in 1988 as cashier and hostess at Tom Sarries Orleans House Restaurant in Arlington (Roslyn), Va.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, Va. Burial will follow at Mt. Comfort cemetery, Alexandria, Va.

Tenny ‘Tina’ Maynard

OHIO — Tenny “Tina” Maynard departed this life Jan. 27, 2006, at the age of 41 years and one day.

A celebration of Tina’s life will be noon Wednesday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel. Family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Marie J. McCormick

FAYETTEVILLE — Marie J. McCormick, 88, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at home following a long illness.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Violet Clemens Milam

CRAIGSVILLE — Violet Clemens Milam, 85, of Craigsville, Nicholas County, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006.

Graveside funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at West Virginia Memorial Gardens at Calvin. There will be no visitation.

White Funeral Home at Summersville is in charge of the arrangements.

Carl Miser

Carl Miser, 83, of Daniels, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Hilda Mae Nelson

Hilda Mae Nelson, 90, formerly of Ballengee, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at the Princeton Community Hospital, following a long illness.

Born Aug. 27, 1915, at Wayside, she was the daughter of the late Charles Richard and Elsa Faye Surber Sims.

Mrs. Nelson had lived most of her life in Summers County. She had been a resident of the Glenwood Retirement Home in Mercer County for the past several years. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Beckley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Nelson; one son, Kyle Nelson; and three brothers, Freddy, Ted, and Bill Sims.

Survivors include one sister, Mildred Ziemba and husband John of Tacoma, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Drema Radford of Princeton; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Sims of True and Marco Sims of Rogers, Ark.; three nieces, two nephews, two great-nieces and one great-nephew.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 4:30 p.m. today at the Oak Grove cemetery at Ballengee, with Pastor Pat Mick officiating. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton.

Jesse William Pennington

FAIRLEA — Jesse William Pennington, 82, of Fairlea, was called to Heaven on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at his home, after a short illness.

Born April 7, 1923, in Kanawha County, he was the son of the late Luther L. and Letha Shuck Pennington of Kanawha County.

Mr. Pennington was a World War II combat veteran with the 132nd Infantry Regiment Asiatic and Northern Pacific Theaters and the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, and three Bronze Service Stars; he was also a veteran of the Korean War with the Surgeon Generals Office 3rd Armored Division, he served as a member of the Bureau of Senior Services Oversight of Administration for 12 years, former president of the Greenbrier County Committee on Aging, Inc., former president Chapter 671 AARP, former National Union Organizer, GBBA-AFL-CIO, served as Judiciary chairman, WV Silver Haired Legislature 1990/91, served as president protem, WV Silver Haired Legislature 1992/93; held an A.S. degree in Human Relations, Lincoln Institute 1963, honorary B.A. degree University of Hard Knocks, sponsored by Alderson-Broaddus College, 1997, and was retired from Combustion Engineering, Lewisburg.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra and Juanita; and brothers, Franklin, Carl, and Ralph.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Pennington of Fairlea; three sons, Carl Pennington and wife Edie of Fairview, Tenn., Ritchie Pennington and wife Shari of Charleston, and Wayne Pennington and wife Jodi of Lewisburg; three daughters, Rebecca Mancari and husband Tom of Winnabow, N.C., Vickie Carter of Ronceverte, and Denice Pennington and companion Kevin Thompson of Fairlea; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth Pennington, Robert Pennington, and Luther Pennington, all of Charleston; seven sisters, Irma Cicero, Reba Dunlap, Frankie McCune, and Myrtle Stinnet, all of Charleston, Elsie Nary of Elkview, Lorena Dunlap of Durham, N.C., and Lula Bell McCutcheon of Millwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Longanacre Funeral Home Chapel, Fairlea, with Pastor Stewart Farley officiating. Military graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Pennington Family cemetery, Charleston.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Helen M. Ramsey

Helen M. Ramsey, 87, of Beckley, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, is serving the family.

Luella Blake Rule

FAYETTEVILLE — Luella Virginia Blake Rule, 81, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at CAMC General Division, Charleston, following a brief illness.

Born on March 16, 1924, at Boonesboro, she was the daughter of the late Lester Blake and Elva Huffman Blake.

Mrs. Rule was a member of the Fayetteville United Methodist Church. She worked 18 years as a secretary at Collins Middle School, Oak Hill.

Preceded in death by her husband, Connar W. Rule; her parents, Lester and Elva Blake; a daughter, Rosemary Rule Feazell and her husband, Kenneth Feazell; and a sister, Jean Lilly Boling.

Survivors include her son, Tho-mas “Pete” Rule of Fayetteville; two sisters, Audrey Bell of Fayetteville, and Patricia Gauze and husband, Buck, of Inez, Ky.; three brothers, Harold Blake, Jr., and wife, Callie, of Fayetteville, Marshall Blake and wife, Yoshemi, of Wilmington, Del., and brother, Major Blake and wife, Ok, of Virginia; four grandchildren, Samatha Jo Feazell, Suzette Wilcher, Chuck Feazell, and Megan Weatherford; great-grandchildren, Hope and Cassie Wilcher, Casey Rule-Hayes, Smiley Weatherford, IV, Hannah and Nicholas Feazell.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. David A. Stackpole officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Friends may call one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Christopher Philip Back

ANSTED — Christopher Philip Back, 23, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006.

Chris is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Bellamy Back whom he married on Aug. 3, 2002, his beautiful daughter, Jada Elizabeth Back, born Dec. 29, 2004, both who loved him very much. Mother and step father, Kimberly and Lester Allen of Ansted; father and step mother, William and Rebecca Back of Crab Orchard; sister, Taylor Back of Ansted, Brooke Back of Crab Orchard; step brother, Seth; grandparents, Philip and Judy Fraker of Glasgow, Dora Jean Back of Elkhart, Ind. He is also survived by mother and father-in-law, Carla and Kevin Garlow of Fayetteville, and “Nan” Margaret Davis of Oak Hill.

He was a 2000 graduate from Midland Trail High School, attended Concord College, and WVU Tech. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Aug. 13, 2002, after honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force April 1, 2005 he was employed by ARK Energy until November 18, 2005 when he was sworn in as Deputy Sheriff of Fayette County, a position that he was most proud of. Chris was a blessing to all who knew and loved him and will be greatly missed.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, East Main St., Oak Hill, with the Rev. Alvie Edwards officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church, East Main St., Oak Hill.

In lieu of flowers a trust fund has been established for Jada Elizabeth Back by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department at Alloy Federal Credit Union, 129 Court St., Fayetteville, W.Va. 25840.

Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank is in charge of the arrangements.

Alan Wayne Bragg

RAINELLE — Alan Wayne Bragg, 35, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, from injuries received in an automobile accident near Roanoke, Va.

Arthur Glen Bennett

CATAWBA, Va. — Arthur Glen Bennett, 74, died Monday, Jan. 30, 3006, at his residence.

Born March 27, 1931, at Hinton, he was the son of the late Mike and Faye Waddell Bennett.

Mr. Bennett retired as a machinist with CSX Railroad in 1993. He served with the US Air Force during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Buckland Bennett in 1993; one brother and one sister.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Wayne Perkins of Catawba and Lisa and Eric Morris of Covington; a son, David Bennett of Covington; a stepdaughter, Donna Cordell and her husband, Al, of Lancaster, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jessica Perkins and Seth Perkins, both of Catawba, and Chad Cordell and Robin Cordell, both of Lancaster, Ohio; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Delmar Bennett of Oak Hill, and Atley Bennett and Dean Bennett, both of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Leola Wiseman of Talcott, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home in Covington, with Donald Bennett officiating. The interment will be made in Cedar Hill cemetery.

The family will receive their friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Arritt Funeral Home.

OAK HILL — Edith F. Bowling, 79, of Pea Ridge Rd., passed away Jan. 29, 2006, at Plateau Medical Center, following a sudden illness.

Margie Dalton, 84, of Beaver, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at home.

Richard Earl Dean

RICHWOOD — Richard Earl Dean, 74, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, Charleston.

Mr. Dean was a former supply clerk for Sewell Coal Company at Nettie.

Survivors include his wife, Dallas Dean of Richwood; a son, Joseph Earl Dean and wife, Sharon of Fayetteville; two daughters, Loria Green and husband, Andy of Richwood, and Cindi Walcutt and husband, Terry of Parkersburg; a brother, Gilbert Dean of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Josephine Crooks of Florence, Ariz.; a grandson; three granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with Pastor Tim Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery, Nettie.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
