Lucille Cornett Williams Grimes

OWENSVILLE, Ohio — Lucille Cornett Williams Grimes, formerly of Eccles, passed away at 11:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, after a short illness.

She was born Oct. 13, 1923, at Exeter, Va., the daughter of Monroe W. and Mary Courtney Cornett.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Dilles Williams; second husband, Edward W. Grimes; and four siblings, Clyde, Mattie, Garrett and Eugene.

She is survived by two daughters, Dillene Humphrey and Brenda Jeager, both of Owensville, Ohio; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jo Ann of Michigan; and a brother, Gilles Cornett of Beckley.

Service will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at The United Methodist Church, Owensville, Ohio.

Friends may call one and a half hours prior to the services on Friday at the church.

Entombment will follow at the Gates of Heaven cemetery Mausoleum, 1100 Montgomery Road, Montgomery, Ohio.

Michael ‘Andy’ Harvey

GLEN FORK — Michael Anthony “Andy” Harvey, 32, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007.

Born March 31, 1974, in Beckley, he was the son of Lee and Brenda Cozort Harvey of Glen Fork. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, the Rev. Kenna and Opal Harvey of Cyclone and Ben Cozort of Glen Fork.

Andy, who was formerly in construction and welding work, was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. But most of all he had a loving, kind heart.

Those left to cherish his memory are a son, Ethan Harvey; and stepdaughter, Chelsea Lafferty, both of McGraws; his loving parents, Brenda and Lee Harvey of Glen Fork; a special grandmother, Magelene Cozort of Glen Fork; a brother, Brennon Harvey and his wife, Janell of Glen Fork; three sisters, Melissa Thompson and her husband, Brian of Beckley, Mindy Francis and her husband, Thomas of Glen Fork, and Michele (Shelly) Harvey of Glen Fork; six special nieces, Allyson Harvey, Sarah and Chasity Francis, Stephanie and Samantha Mitchell, Taleah Bailey; and a special nephew, Wyatt Harvey.

Others left to cherish his memory are five uncles; three aunts; and a host of friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Evans Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ira Lafferty and the Rev. Phillip Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow in the Glen Fork Community cemetery. Family and friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bennett A. Hatfield

CONLEY, Ga. — Bennett A. Hatfield, 58, a native of Hampden, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007.

A celebration of his life will be at his home in Conley, Ga.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Charlene R. Leasure

Charlene R. Leasure, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Beckley, died Feb. 3, 2007.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 3565 9th Ave., Sacramento, Calif. 95827. Thompson Funeral Home, 3601 5th Ave., Sacramento, Calif. is in charge of the arrangements.

Alma Mae Rhodes McClaskey

OAK HILL — Alma Mae Rhodes McClaskey, 79, died on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at her home.

The youngest of 14 children, she was born Feb. 21, 1927, at Rock Lick, to the late Noah Juddson and Leah White Rhodes.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. McClaskey was a member of the United Methodist Church, Oak Hill, where she was a Sunday school teacher and belonged to the Rebecca Guild Bible Class. For some years she operated the Humpty Dumpty Day Care at the church and will always be remembered fondly as “Miss Alma.”

Miss Alma enjoyed nature, especially in the spring with its delicate flowers and robins that came every year to build nests in her maple trees. She was known for her loving smile and her tender spot for children.

Six sisters and five brothers preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, James D. McClaskey, Sr.; six children, Tana Higginbotham of Oak Hill, James D. McClaskey, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Charlotte, N.C., Linda Jasper and husband, Sam, Sr. of Fayetteville, Cindy Hysell and husband, Steve, Sr. of Oak Hill, Doug McClaskey, Sr. and wife, Linda of Waynesburg, Pa., and Crystal Ryan of Oak Hill; one sister, Maxine Bowyer of Richwood; and one brother, Noah Juddson Rhodes of Detroit, Mich.

She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Leslie Higginbotham, Mandy Higginbotham, Patrick McClaskey, Michael McClaskey, Noah McClaskey, Nina McClaskey, Sam Jasper, Jr., Shelli Efird, Steve Hysell, Jr., Christopher Hysell, Heather Willoughby, Doug McClaskey, Jr, Amber Hurd, Bradley Ryan and Brandon Ryan; and 11 great grandchildren, Taylor Buchanan, Craig Buchanan, Jackson Smith, Alle Rae Legg, Sammy Jasper, III, Ashley Jasper, Sydni Efird, Brianna Hysell, Alexis Hysell, Dennis Willoughby, IV, and Logan Hurd

Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with the Rev. William Slates and Dr. John Sauvage officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Grandsons, Michael McClaskey, Patrick McClaskey, Brandon Ryan, Bradley Ryan, Steve Hysell, Jr., Doug McClaskey, Jr. and Sam Jasper, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.

Carrie M. McGraw

BIG BEND — Carrie M. McGraw, 85, died Feb. 4, 2007, at Heartland Nursing Home of Rainelle, after a long illness.

Carrie was born July 15, 1921, at Meadow Bridge. She was the daughter of Omer W. and Rachel Amick McClung.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jennings, Lile and Gale McClung; and her sisters, Dessie Jones, Audris Rader and Veva McClung.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Claude McGraw; her daughter, Claudia Harris and husband, William Harris of Rainelle; and three grandchildren, Joel Harris and wife, Mindy of Oak Hill, Chad Harris and wife, Heather of Severna Park, Md., and Cara Crookshanks and husband, Stephen of Smoot.

Her seven great-grandchildren are Tanner, Carsyn and Troy Harris of Oak Hill, Liam and Jude Harris of Severna Park, Md. and Harrison and Hayden Crookshanks of Smoot. She is survived also by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. McGraw was a member of the Brackens Creek United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and High Country Garden Club.

She was a graduate of Nuttall High School, Class of 1939.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Mike Loudermilk officiating. Entombment will follow in Wallace Memorial Mausoleum, Clintonville.

Friends may call noon until 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Rainelle.

There will be no evening visitation.

Helen Frances Atkins

Helen Frances Atkins, 76, of Princewick, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2007, at home.

Born April 12, 1930, she was the daughter of Madeline McNeely Wells of Coal City and the late Roy D. McNeely.

She will be missed by her favorite little dog, “Buddy.” She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother.

In addition to her father, Helen was preceded in death by her stepfather, John H. Wells, and a grandson, Mathew Thompson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ronnie Atkins; mother Madeline Wells of Coal City; three sons, Ronald Thompson and his wife, Jeanette, of Romulus, Mich., Randy Thompson and his wife, Kelly, of Beckley and Richard Thompson and his wife, Julie, of Coal City; a daughter, Rona Bolen and her companion, Bud Hylton, of Shady Spring; a brother, Charles McNeely and his wife, Betty, of Seymour, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Crystal Bough and her husband, Michael, of Tecumseh, Mich., Troy Thompson of Belleville, Mich., Brooke Thompson of Los Angeles, Calif., Kyle Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz., Ryan and Madison Thompson of Beckley, Lesley Thompson of Coal City, Wesley Thompson and his wife, Mona, of Coal City and Samantha Garretson and her companion, Justin Richmond, of Shady Spring; and four great-grandchildren, David and Madeline Bough, and Zachery and Alyssa Thompson.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia, with the Rev. Melvin Jamison officiating.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pauline M. Alderman

Pauline M. Alderman, 86, of Beckley, died Sunday, April 8, 2007, in a local care facility of natural causes.

Danny Odell Belcher

SUN HILL — Danny Odell Belcher departed this life Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley at the age of 64 years, six months and six days following a short illness.

Born Oct. 1, 1942, at Sun Hill, he was the son of the late William Oscar and Mabel Toler Belcher.

Danny attended Sun Hill Freewill Baptist Church and worked for Otis Cook Motor Sales as the body foreman. He enjoyed talking on CB radio, fishing and camping, but most of all spending time with his two grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Robert Hall and Troy Cole.

Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Tonya Faith Miller and Melissa Dawn Blankenship and her husband, Steve, all of Oceana; a brother, Billy Rondall Belcher and his wife, Juanita, of Sun Hill; two grandchildren, Shawna Codie Miller and Samantha Kay Miller, both of Oceana; special nephew, Roger Walker of Lake Lynn, Fla.; a niece, Robin Bailey and her husband, Justin, of Sun Hill; several other nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

A celebration of Danny’s life will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Revs. Jay Blankenship and Ernest Francis officiating. Burial will follow in G.C. Toler cemetery, Sun Hill.

The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the chapel.

Gregory Scott Bishop

MULLENS — Gregory Scott Bishop, 37, of Mullens, died Monday, April 9, 2007, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born June 5, 1969, in Beckley, he was the son of Homer R. Bishop of Mullens and the late Arlie Lafferty Bishop.

Mr. Bishop was a graduate of Mullens High School and a certified electrician for Baylor Mining Co. at New Richmond with 18 years of service. In his leisure he enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and doing for others.

In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Nancy Elizabeth Lafferty; maternal grandfather, Goodall Allen Lafferty; paternal grandmother, Bertha Evelyn Bishop; and paternal grandfather, Ray Bishop.

Besides his father, those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Krystal Monday Bishop; two daughters who were the joy of his life, Taylor Dawne and Kendall Autumn Bishop at home; a brother, Barry Bishop of Mullens; a half sister, Barbara Teets and her husband, Roger, of Wichita, Kan.; and two half brothers, Ronnie Bishop and his wife, Brenda, of Richmond, Va., and Terry Bishop and his wife, Mary of Itmann.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Mullens Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Larry England and the Rev. Bob England officiating. Burial will follow in York cemetery, York Mountain.

Friends may call one hour before service at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Kelli Witt Blake

FAYETTEVILLE — Kelli Laraine Witt Blake, 44, of Fayetteville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 8, 2007, at home.

Born Jan. 8, 1963, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of Lena Ardinia “Mickey” Boyd Witt Fleck of St. Albans and the late Charles Ro-bert Witt.

Kelli was a member of Fayetteville Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Fayetteville High School, a dispatcher for the State Police in Beckley and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Robert Witt; brother, Charles Jeffrey “Jeff” Witt; and stepfather, Albert Don Fleck.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Charles “Chuck” Blake; her mother, Mickey Witt Fleck of St. Albans; a son, Thomas “Jeremy” Witt Warford of Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of friends and relatives.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the funeral home.
