RANDLEMAN, N.C. — Karen Lane Shields Blankenship, 60, of Randleman, formerly of Pineville, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 7, 2007, at her residence.
Born April 27, 1946, in Baileysville, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Lane Shields and Edna Cook Shields.
In addition to her parents, her nephew, Bobby Bias, preceded her in death.
Karen was a homemaker but was previously employed by Robinson Phillips Coal Co. and Rite Way Food Market. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be greatly mis-sed by all that knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Danny Blankenship; her daughter, Kim Toler and son-in-law, Edwin, and her precious grandson, Daniel, all of Randleman.
Her only sister, Patricia Bias and her husband, Robert, of West Hamlin, also survive her.
Service will be 1 p.m., Friday, April 13, at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the the Rev. Doc Adkins and the Rev. Silas Mullins officiating. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the funeral home.

Myrl Eva Bragg
MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Myrl Eva Bragg, 84, formerly of Lester, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, in Madisonville.
Born Sept. 11, 1922, at Lester, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Elmer and Josie Frances Webb Dunn.
Mrs. Bragg was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. While living in Lester, she attended the Church of Christ at Lester and had been a resident of Madisonville for the past 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Merrill Kelly; her second husband, Lacy Bragg; a son, Larry Kelly; and a daughter, Fada Sue Bragg.
Surviving are her daughter, Susie Head of Thompsons Station, Tenn.; her four sons, Perry Kelly of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jerry Kelly of Tennessee, Kerry Kelly of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Garry Kelly of Lester; a sister, Bill Bailey of Lester; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Webb cemetery, Lester, with Herb Milam officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Margaret Kathryn Burdiss
Margaret Kathryn Burdiss, 87, of Coal City, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a short illness.
Born March 11, 1920, in Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Martin L. Sutphin and Lenora Martin Sutphin.
Mrs. Burdiss was a graduate of Herndon High School and was a retired employee of the Raleigh County Board of Education. She had served as a secretary for Stoco High School and last for Independence High School.
She was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church in Beckley.
Mrs. Birdiss was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 11 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Burdiss.
Survivors include daughter, Nikki Smith and husband, Samuel, of Englewood, Ohio; grandchildren, Christina DeFrance of Frederick, Md., Melissa DeFrance of St. Louis, Mo., and Sandra Rackley of Dayton, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua DeFrance and Quincy Rackley.
Funeral Liturgy will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Pericles Malacaman as celebrant.
Rite of Committal will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, where a Christian prayer service will be held at 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, in memory of Mrs. Burdiss.

Marlena G. Basham Coleman, 36, of Beckley, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a sudden illness.
Born Aug. 18, 1970, in Alexandria, Va., she was the daughter of Danny and Ramona Allen Basham of Beckley.
Mrs. Coleman was a homemaker and was one to always putting the needs and cares of others before her own. No matter what was happening in the world around her, at the end of the day the only thing that mattered was her family. She was an avid lover of women’s softball. She will be sadly mis-sed by loved ones.
Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Donnie and Mary Allen; paternal grandparents, Cecil and Gladys Basham; paternal uncles, Jerry Basham and Ricky Meadows; father-in-law, Howard Orin Coleman; and brother-in-law, Wallace “Squat” Coleman.

RICHWOOD — Erie Marlowe, 78, of Richwood, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 7, 2007, in Sunbridge Pine Lodge, Beckley, after a long illness.
She was born Feb. 7, 1929, to the late Henry and Cora Ewing Lucas.
She was a homemaker.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Marlowe Sr.; and grandson, Christopher S. Marlowe.
Survivors include her daughter, Ramona McMurray and husband, Buck, of Arkadelphia, Ark.; her son, Charles Marlowe Jr. and wife, Sandy, of Beckley; a granddaughter; and four great-granddaughters.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with the Rev. Larry Russell officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Memorial Park, Richwood.

LESLIE — Judith “Judy” McClung, 57, passed away Monday, April 9, 2007, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea following a long illness.
Born Jan. 13, 1950, in Leslie, she was the daughter of William Woodrow Cook of Leslie and the late Dorothy Eleanor Robinson Cook. She worked as a dietitian at Heartland of Rainelle. Judy was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jill Wheeler, and a brother, Benny Cook.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Lee McClung Sr.; two daughters, Julie Cooper of Quinwood and Jennifer Baldwin of Rupert; a son, Jerry Lee McClung Jr. of Charmco; a sister, Jean Clingan of Crichton; three brothers, Tom Cook of Leslie, Billy Cook of Quinwood and Terry Cook of Ansted; and seven grandchildren, Melody, Faith and Judith Cooper, Kristin, Kimberly and Kaylee McClung, and Ryan Jordan Baldwin.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville, with Rose Camp officiating.
There will be no visitation.

He was a disabled machininst.
