REDDING, Calif. — Delphia L. Mullins, age 92, formerly of Ballard, died Monday, April 16, 2007.

Service will be 11 a.m. Sunday at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joy Plummer

Joy Plummer, 74, of Daniels, died Friday, April 20, 2007, at home.

Alice Ann Pugh

MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Alice Ann Pugh, 71, formerly of Beckley, died 5:05 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2007, at the Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 20, 1935, in Raleigh County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Virginia Redden Plum.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Rush Pugh, on May 10, 2004; two sisters and two brothers.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Stephen Pugh of Madisonville and Donald G. Pugh of Gainesville, Fla.; her caregiver, Debra Pugh of Madisonville; four grandchildren, Clifford Rush Pugh, Heather Renee Pugh, Kristina Fay Pugh and Carrie Ann Pugh.

Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Gray-son C. Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church, c/o Sharon Lilly, 403 C&O Dam Road, Daniels, WV 25832.

Willie E. Robinson

OAK HILL — Willie E. Robinson, 93, of 201 Oak Hill Ave., died Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Fayette Nursing and Rehabilitation, Fayetteville, following a long illness.

Beatrice Ann Scott

Beatrice Ann Scott went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 19, 2007, following a short illness. Bea, as she was known to her loved ones and friends, was born in Stanaford; she was the daughter of the late William and Catherine Cooper Smith.

Bea was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and resided in Fayetteville with her husband of 42 years, Robert L. Scott. Bea worked as a real estate agent for Walbrown Real Estate in Oak Hill, W.Va.

Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas Fisher, John Andrew, Dougal Baird, William Fisher and Alexander Cooper Smith; and sister Janet Fisher Smith.

She was the beloved mother to two daughters, Heather Scott Clark and Lori Scott Bell and husband, Lawrence Bell. She was Grandmother to Hadley Olivia Clark and Cooper Ian and Aiden Parker Scott Bell. She is survived by sisters, Catherine Scott, Mary Smith and husband Fred Smith, Marion Smith, Peggy Carter and husband Franklin Carter, and Janet Smith; and brother Robert Smith and wife Reva Smith. She is survived by many nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Scott was the picture of a Christian wife and mother. Everyone who knew her loved her. She was an active member of her church, Grace Community Church, a church family that she loved dearly.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2007, at the Grace Community Church located at Lanark, W.Va., with Pastor Philip Lilly officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Saturday, at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers, and men of the Grace Community Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Thomas Walter Tredway

OAK HILL — Thomas Walter Tredway, 67, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill.

Born Feb. 29, 1940, at Lochgelly, he was the son of the late Bill Burke and Mary Catherine Yarber Tredway.

Mr. Tredway was retired from the U.S. Navy with 20 years of service and was a disabled postmaster having worked at Edmond and Thurmond. He was also a former Fayetteville city police officer.

He was a member of the Hilltop Family Worship Center and the American Legion.

A brother, Manning Burke Tredway, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Marie Bender Tredway; a daughter, Angela Marie Adkins of Oak Hill; grandson, Thomas Giles Adkins of Oak Hill; and two brothers, Leon Tredway and Melvin Tredway of Fayetteville.

It was Mr. Tredway’s request that his body be donated to the WVU Human Gift Registry in Morgantown.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2007, at the Hilltop Family Worship Center with Pastor Terry Damron officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Thomas Giles Adkins Education Fund, c/o Chase, 215 Main St. W., Oak Hill, WV 25901.

Melba Maxine Lilly Vest

Melba Maxine Lilly Vest, 80, of Nimitz, died Friday, April 20, 2007, in a Summers County nursing facility following a long illness.

Born Nov. 11, 1926, in Jumping Branch, she was the daughter of the late Basil Webster Lilly, and Nomie Ellen Cole Lilly.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Carl Abshire Vest; a daughter, Dianna Lynn Vest Whittaker; brothers Lemuel Darrell Lilly, Donald Webster Lilly and Billy Dan Lilly.

Survivors include her daughter Donna Kay Vest Maddy and husband Ashby of Nimitz; son, Howard W. Vest and wife Barbara, also of Nimitz; a son-in-law, George E. Whittaker Sr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Tia Maddy Lilly and husband Robert M. of Narrows, Va., Robert Aaron Maddy and wife Marcia “Dolly” of Lero-na, George Whittaker II and wife Theresa of Daniels, Carla Leigh Vest of Beaver, Amanda Rachel Vest Gray and husband Brandon of Beaver and Casey Jolene Vest of Ronceverte; stepgrandsons, Samuel B. Massie and wife Andrea of Streeter and Steven Ray Massie and wife Myria of Cool Ridge; great-grandchildren, Madison Grace Lilly of Narrows, Emily Dawn and Jonathon Robert Maddy of Lerona, Preslei Morgan Whittaker of Daniels and Allison Paige Gray of Beaver. Other survivors include two sisters, Margie Nadine Lilly of Virginia, and Elizabeth Marguerite Harris of Nimitz; special sisters-in-law, Jewell Lilly of Nimitz, Louise Lilly of White Oak, Mary Belle Lilly and husband Edward of Nimitz and Linda Lou Martin and husband Daniel of Kent, Ohio; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Melba, or “Jo” as she was affectionately known by many close friends, was a home-maker and farmer and had lived all of her life in Summers County. She enjoyed horseback riding and was an avid fan of Bluegrass Music. Melba and Carl enjoyed many years bluegrass festivals, fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities. Melba was a hard-working, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2007, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Elder Tommy Pack officiating. Burial will follow in the William R. Vest/John Pack cemetery at Streeter. Friends may call at the funeral parlors one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Grandsons and special friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations of sympathy be made to the William R. Vest cemetery Fund, c/o Howard Vest, Nimitz, WV 25978.

Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton.

Christopher Wayne Ward

WINONA — Christopher Wayne Ward, 34, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2007, at his residence.

He was born March 31, 1973, in Detroit, Mich., and was a son of Peggy Arthur of Pax and the late Tommy Sandborn of Michigan.

Chris attended the Keeney’s Creek Baptist Church of Winona; he was disabled.

Survivors, other than his birth mother, are maternal parents and grandparents, Henry and Leona Ward of Hico; brothers, Jamie Ward and wife, Shannon, of Winona, Johnnie Ward and wife, Michele, of Danese, David Ward and wife, Sharon, of Danese, Archie Ward and wife, Lisa, of Layland, Wayne Ward and Lisa Stolar of Winona; sisters, Kelly Carte of Hico, Jessie Ward and Floyd Ramsey of Winona, Loretta Hypes and husband, Danny, of Hico; great-grandmother, Sadie Ritter of Lookout; 14 nephews and 10 nieces.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted, with Pastor Mark Secrist officiating. Burial will follow in the Nuttall cemetery at Edmond.

Friends may call 12 noon until time of the service Monday at the funeral home.

Paul E. ‘Poley’ Wills

Paul E. “Poley” Wills, age 70, of Naoma, passed away Thursday April 19, 2007, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, following a short illness.

Born at Naoma, on Oct. 27, 1936, he was the son of the late Ernest and Minnie McGinnis Wills.

Mr. Wills was a retired truck driver.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Edward and Clyde WIlls.

Mr. Wills enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR Racing, and spending time with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Peggy Mooney Wills; a son, Jeff Wills and wife, Sherry, of Horse Creek; daughters, Melissa Pettry and husband, Kent, of Rock Creek, and Denise Bailey and husband, Mark, of Rock Creek; two grandsons, Aaron Pettry of Rock Creek, and Jeffrey Paul Wills of Horse Creek; two granddaughters, Brandy Duncan of Clear Fork, and Destiny Bailey of Rock Creek; three great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and a brother, Richard Wills of Beckley.

Graveside rites and burial will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the McGinnis cemetery at Rock Creek with the Rev. Harless Peters Jr. officiating.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Arnett Assembly of God.

Eva Dawson Wiseman

Eva Lee Bailey Dawson Wiseman, 97, of Pleasant Hills, Beckley, died Friday, April 20, 2007, in a Beckley care home following a long illness.

Born Nov. 5, 1909, in Pleasant Hills, she was the daughter of the late Harmon and Emma Snuffer Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Sam Dawson and Paul Wiseman; sisters Sylvia Huffman and Wilda Underwood and brothers Willis, Russell and Weston Bailey. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Dawson was an active member of the Oak Grove Christian Church for many years and a member of the Women’s Fellowship Class.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Hylton and husband Dean of Princeton; a son, Darrell Dawson and wife Connie of Beckley; six grandchildren: Larry Hylton and wife Vicky of Beckley, Debbie Christian and husband Clarence of Beckley, Eddie Hylton and wife Lori of Bluefield, Deana Wyrick and husband Jeff of Princeton, Janie May and husband John of Tennessee, and Brad Dawson and wife Leah of Kentucky; eight great-grandchildren and by five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with Mr. Rick Absher officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove cemetery, Beckley. Friends may call Sunday from 2 p.m. until the service time at the funeral home.

Kenneth L. ‘Brigham’ Young

Kenneth L. “Brigham” Young, 80, of Pemberton, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a short illness.

Born at Pemberton on Oct. 2, 1926, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Bertha McPeake Young.

Mr. Young was a disabled coal miner, was a former custodian at Stoco Junior High School and was a former construction worker. He was proud that he was a lifelong resident of Pemberton. Mr. Young enjoyed fishing.

Surviving are a brother, Bob Mills and wife, Susan, of Forest Hill; and two sisters, Cecil Tippett and Rose Mary Carropp and her husband, Ralph, all of Virginia Beach, Va. Although Mr. Young had no children of his own, he always said he never needed any because he was loved by all his nieces and nephews.

Graveside rites and burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, with Elder Keith Mills officiating.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
