Flora Ann Stafford

Flora Ann Stafford, 77, of Bolt, formerly of Kopperston, received her wings to heaven on April 16, 2006.

Mrs. Stafford was born July 20, 1928, at Wicham, the daughter of the late Guy and Zettie Dawson Arthur.

Flora Ann was a housewife and a full time mother to five children. She was a member of the Calloway Heights Baptist Church. She loved to cook and have her family around her.

In addition to her parents, Flora was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William B. Stafford, Sr.; a son William “Bill” Stafford, Jr.; and a sister, Freda Mae Lares.

Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter-in-law Donna Stafford of Oviedo, FL; a son, Donnie Stafford and wife, Palma, of Beckley; three daughters, June Staf-ford of Bolt, Nancy Re-wis and husband, Tim, of Lake Alfred, FL, and Barbara Stepp and husband, Doug, of Bolt; three brothers, Guy “Slick” Arthur of Ona, Bill Arthur and wife, Doris, of Daniels, and Jess Arthur and wife, Joyce, of Shady Spring; a sister, Erma Stafford and husband, Kenneth, of Kopperston, who was her best friend and Flora Ann had also been like a mother to her; nine grandchildren, Craig Stafford of Myrtle Beach, SC, Terri Neilson and husband, Randy, of Garden City, SC, Karen Trapp of Orlando, FL, Erin Forbis and husband, Chris, of Orlando, FL, Jason Stafford and fiancée, Kellie, of Beckley, Nicholas Stafford and fiancée, Jami, of St. Augustine, FL, Staci Williams and husband, Brandon, of Polk City, and Nikki Ann Stepp of Bolt; 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She will also be missed by her special grandson, Dereck Stafford, who lovingly cared for his maw maw.

A thank you to Mary Ann Williams and Barbara Jean Collins who was Mrs. Stafford caregivers.

Also, a thank you to Hospice, Dr. Suresh Thomas and staff.

A gathering for family and friends will be held for Flora Ann 4 to 7 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.

Service will be 7 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley with the Rev. Bill Parker and nephew, Randy Stafford, officiating.

Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, where Mrs. Stafford will be laid to rest beside her husband.

Craig, Jason, Nicholas, Dereck and Randy Stafford, and Brandon Williams will serve as pallbearers.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive Beckley is in charge of the arrangements.

Paul Edward Webb

Paul Edward Webb, 75, of McGraws, passed away April 16, 2006.

Born Sept. 30, 1930, in Whitesburg, Ky., he was the son of the late Steven C. Webb and Stella Keizer Webb.

Before retiring, he was an electrician for the coal mines, a husband for 40 years and the father of eight children.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mildred Webb of McGraws; sons, Paul and Tina Webb Jr. of McGraws, Steven and Angie Webb of Clifton Forge, Va., Bobby and Malena of Clifton Forge, Va., Edward and Katrina Webb of Mount Airy, N.C., Abraham and Nancy Webb of Florida, Eugene Webb of Georgia, Billy Webb of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Tina Webb of Florida; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and brothers and sisters.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Dr., Beckley, is in charge of the arrangements.

Ernest Lloyd White

SPANISHBURG — Ernest Lloyd White, 78, died Sunday, April 6, 2006.

Service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel at Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton.

Friends may call 2 p.m. until time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lashmeet Freewill Baptist Church, Box 337, Lashmeet, WV 24733.

Elsie Mae Sauls Alderman

Elsie Mae Sauls Alderman, 94, of Stover, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 16, 2006, at her home with her loving family around her.

Born Oct. 30, 1911, at Stover, she was the oldest of 10 children born to the late Burrell and Anna Laura Rorrer Miller.

She was married to the late Levi David Sauls on Jan. 27, 1927, and was united for 38 years. They were blessed with eight children. She then married Paul Frederick Alderman. A lifelong resident of Raleigh County, she spent her life serving her Lord and trying to make others happy. She was a member of Dameron Freewill Baptist Church where she worked with the Ladies Quilting Auxiliary for many years. She was the last remaining pillar of the founding church. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, her flowers and her most precious moments, her family gathered around her.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ellen, on Nov. 2, 1932; brothers, Lomer, Chester, Don and Warren Miller; sisters, Geneieve McMillion and Ruth Linesberry; a half brother, Arnett Miller; three half sisters, Opal Bradford, Mathel O’dell and Ocie Massey; and a grandson, Harry Ray Johnson.

Left to cherish her memory are seven remaining children, a daughter, Juanita Merle Cyrus of Beckley, daughter, Lillian Jewell Johnson and husband, Harry, of Fort Worth, Texas, son, Damon Lee Sauls and wife, Janet, of Cleveland, Ohio, son, Lowell Jay Sauls of Stover, son, Donnie Vern Sauls and companion, Patty Alford, of Lower Sandlick, daughter, Cathy Irene Dillon of Stover and daughter, Karen Faith Linville and companion, Paul Adkins, of Fayetteville; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Linda French and husband, Charles, of Arnett; stepson, Paul Alderman of Charleston; special friend, Edna Asbury of Arnett; sisters, Bessie Husner of Lyons, N.Y., and Esta Pettry of St. Albans; and a brother, James Miller of Stover.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Fairdale Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dean Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Clay cemetery, Dameron.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Eric Sauls, David Sauls, Shannon Linville, Johnny Dillon, Robbie Cyrus and Raymond Sauls.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Clements, Jason Cyrus, Eddy Cyrus, Michael Johnson, John Johnson and Spc.Paul M. Clements.

We give our special thanks to Hospice for their caring and support, especially Linda, Debbie and Jonette.

Kimberly Dawn Borders

Kimberly Dawn Borders, the beloved precious daughter of John and Virginia Borders, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 17, 2006, in an automobile accident. She was 24.

Her grandparents, John and Carmen Border and Joe and Wilda Maynard, and two uncles, John and Truman Maynard, preceded her in death.

Kimberly was of the Baptist faith. She was a 1999 honor graduate of Oceana High School and a 2004 graduate of West Virginia University. She had a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and psychology with a minor in communications. She was presently attending Radford University pursuing a master’s degree. She loved watching movies, playing tennis and traveling.

In addition to her parents, those left to grieve the loss of the love of their life are her uncles, Ellis Maynard and his wife, Vivian, of Cleveland, Ohio, Wallace Maynard and his wife, Marlene, of Fairdale, Adrian Maynard and his wife, Sheila, of Clear Fork, Tommy Maynard and his wife, Deanna, of Kopperston, Tom Borders and his wife, Jerri, of Keyrock, Lindsey Borders and his wife, Vicki, of Lynchburg, Va., and Art Borders and his wife, Karen, of Beckley; aunts, Roxie Vada and her husband, Jay, of Columbus, Ohio, Daisey Peters and her husband, Elmer, of Charleston and Beulah Borders of Keyrock; and her boyfriend of many years, Mark Harvey of Radford, Va.

She will be greatly missed by a host of cousins, friends and extended family.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Rock Castle Baptist Church, Keyrock Road, Pineville, with the Rev. Donald “Doc” Adkins officiating. Entombment will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny.

The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at Evans Funeral Home, Oceana.

We don’t understand why the Lord took her, but we think he needed another special angel.

Emmet James Coleman

BETHALTO, Ill. — Emmet James Coleman, 96, formerly of Oak Hill, went to his homecoming on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, Ill., with his daughter and son-in-law at his side.

Born July 23, 1909 at Winifrede Junction, he was the son of the late J. Nathan and Elenor Mae Dooley Coleman.

Mr. Coleman worked with the survey crew for the Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington Division, retiring in 1971.

He served his country with the U.S. Army and was activated from the West Virginia National Guard for World War II and reactivated in 1962 for the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Emmet was a member of Jones Avenue First Church of God, Oak Hill, the American Numismatic Association, National Scrip Collectors Association and enjoyed Civil War memorabilia. He loved West Virginia history, flea markets, yard sales and reading.

He enjoyed his family very much and would always ask, “How are my girls?” when talking about his great-granddaughters. He married the former Lorene (Wilson) Coleman on Feb. 18, 1944, in Oak Hill, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 1992. A granddaughter, Amber Strawn, two sisters, Decima Coleman and Mary Pennock, and a brother, George “Jack” Coleman, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Coleman Strawn and husband, Bill, of Bethalto; a sister, Lula Thompson of Bradley; four grandchildren and their spouses, Charles Coleman and Carrie Strawn of Malibu, Calif., Timothy Emmet and Diane Strawn of Cahokia, Ill., Scott Willard and Cambra Strawn of San Jose, Calif., and Sara Suzanne Strawn of Alton, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Moriah, Jordan, Janae' and Will and was expecting his fifth great-grandchild; his pretend grandchildren, Rachel and Christopher Pennington; and a host of friends and church family.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Jones Avenue First Church of God, Oak Hill.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the church with the Rev. Ralph Shupe and the Rev. Richard Bradley officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3110, Oak Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Meadowbrook First Church of God, 222 Maple Drive, Bethalto IL 62010.

Dorothy Lucille Critchley

DANESE — Dorothy Lucille Critchley, 86, passed away Monday, April 17, 2006, at Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division, following a short illness.

Born April 29, 1919, at Layland, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Ola Lewis Parker.

A homemaker, she attended White Oak United Methodist Church of Landisburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Ray Critchley; a son, John Patrick Critchley; a sister, Goldie Day; and two brothers, Delbert Parker and Charles Rex Parker.

Survivors include four daughters, Loretta Campbell and her husband, George, of Danese, Linda Burns and her husband, Jimmy, of Kentucky, Dorothy Foster and her husband, Fred, of Danese and Reva Martin and her husband, George, of Danese; five sons, James Ray Critchley and his wife, “Suze,” of Arizona, Leonard Critchley and his wife, Nadine, of Danese, Dennis Critchley and his wife, Shirley, of Maryland, Julius Critchley and his wife, Rosie, of South Carolina and Bill Critchley of Danese; two half sisters, Eleanor Allen of Maryland and Patricia Michelson of Maryland; a brother, Warren Parker of Pipestem; a half brother, Henry Gentry of Maryland; 26 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Jesse Parker, the Rev. Sherman McCombs and the Rev. Jimmy Critchley officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis-Critchley cemetery, Landisburg.

Friends may call one hour before service Thursday at the funeral home. There will be no evening visitation.

Pallbearers will be Bill Critchley, Dennis Critchley, Matthew Critchley, Fred Foster, Michael Foster and James Robert Critchley.

David Phillip Daniel

David Phillip Daniel, 48, of the Dameron area of Glen Daniel, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 16, 2006, in Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, after a long illness.

He was born Sept. 2, 1957, at Mullens, a son of the late Hubert Daniel and Ruth Elaine Bailey Daniel Harper.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Zane and George Daniel. He was the grandson of the late Okey and Etta Pettry Daniel.

Mr. Daniel was a member of Cove Creek Community Church at Saxon. He was a retired custodian for Raleigh County Board of Education with 23 years of service at Trap Hill High, Fairdale Elementary and Liberty High schools.

He is survived by two sisters, Molly White of Beckley and Robin Clay of Cleveland, Ohio; three brothers, Bobby Joe Harper of Dameron, Derwent Oliver “Buck” Daniel of Nashville, Tenn., and Stormy Hubert Daniel of Waynesburg, Pa.; several nieces and nephews; and his pet, Angel.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cove Creek Community Church, Saxon, with Pastors Ed Harris and Forest Gray and his uncle, Denver Daniel, officiating. Singers will be Denver and Norma Daniel.

Burial will follow in Daniel Family cemetery, Dameron.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, and noon until time of service Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Buck Daniel, Stormy Daniel, Bobby Joe Harper, Jason Daniel, Dickie Daniel and Ray Pauley.
