OAK HILL — Clyde A. Ervin Sr., 69, of Oak Hill, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 23, 1936, at Crown Hill, he was the son of the late Adrian Ervin and Irene Mullins Steele.
Clyde had been self-employed since 1958, having owned Allied Exterminating Co.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Ervin; three sons, Clyde A. Ervin Jr. of Oak Hill, James D. Ervin of Scarbro and William Keith Ervin and his wife, Terry, of Waynesboro, Va.; two brothers, Kenneth Ray Ervin Sr. and wife, Sherry, of Carl and Everette Steele and wife, Beverly, of Beckley; three sisters, Wanda Hackney of Waynesboro, Brenda Puckett and husband, Jim, of Oak Hill and Susie Jones and husband, Don, of Shelbyville, Ind.; five grandchildren, Clyde A. Ervin III, Zachary Ervin, Miranda Ervin, Tommy Durie and Lori Durie; and two great-grandchildren.
Service was Friday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Diarmuid H. O’Hara and Rev. Dorothy Osborne officiating. Burial followed in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Nancy J. Marcinko
On Thursday, the first day of December, Nancy J. Mar-cinko died peacefully at her home after a long and good life.
Born Nancy Janice Fumarola on Jan. 9, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Concetta Addia Fumarola.
Nancy graduated from Marsh Fork High School, where she was the first female student to receive the Golden Horseshoe Award in Raleigh County. A registered nurse by profession, Nancy received her nurse’s training at Laird Me-morial Hospital in Montgomery. She was a veteran of World War II, 1st lieutenant Army nurse serving in the Philippines, and at The Greenbrier when it was a POW camp. Nancy worked at Beckley Hospital and Appalachian Regional Hospital, retiring in 1971.
A resident of Mabscott Hill for a number of years, she had resided on Harper Road since 1965. Nancy was a devoted member of Mabscott United Methodist Church where she served as president of the Adult Sunday School Class. She also served as a board member of the finance committee and chairman of the annual fall dinners at the church.
Nancy loved to shop, garden and tend to her roses, help people and give to others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Mar-cinko, in 1985; a great-granddaughter, Grace Laura Rohani; a brother, Dominic Fumarola; and her sisters, Annie Copare, Dollie Williams and Rose Workman.
She was the beloved mother of Frank Marcinko and wife, Debbie, of Williamstown and Nancy Davis and husband, Charles, of Beckley; a loving grandmother of five granddaughters, Lori Rohani and husband, Mark, Kelly Vaught and husband, B.K., Leigh Ann Hines and husband, Will, Mindy Jenkins and husband, Jeff, and Natalie Marcinko; two great-grandchildren, Landon Rohani and Sydney Vaught; her sisters, Ruby James and husband, Ralph, of Ocala, Fla., and Mary Rink of Harve De Grace, Md.; and very dear friends, Newasta Blankenship, Geneva Land, Frances Lane and Susan Jenkins.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley, with Pastor Michael Ludle officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum A, Beckley.
Friends may call 12:30 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Edward Preston Meyers
Edward Preston Meyers, 80, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, after a short battle with cancer.
He was born in Baltimore, Md., on June 26, 1925, the son of the late Joseph Meyers and Mary Hamrick.
Edward was retired from C&O Railroad where he worked as an engineer for 40 years. He served five years in the U.S. Army and three years in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the American Legion of Fayetteville.
Mr. Meyers also enjoyed playing bingo at the Beaver and Bradley fire departments.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Patricia Meyers; a daughter, Kathy Brubaker and husband, Robbie, of Roanoke, Va.; a beloved grandson, Brian Cass Jr. of Roan-oke; and a very special companion, Casper.
Edward was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by all.
During his battle with cancer, he was taken care of by a very special, caring staff and doctors of the 4B unit at the Beckley VA Medical Center, and most of all by his very precious daughter Kathy.
Edward generously donated his body to medical research and his wishes not to have a funeral or memorial service will be honored.

Boots Logan ‘Jack’ Sheppard
KOPPERSTON — Boots Logan “Jack” Sheppard departed this life Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at the age of 65 years, 11 months and 14 days at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division.
Born Dec. 17, 1939, at Williamson, he was the son of the late Sydney and Garnell Goodwin Sheppard.
Jack was a coal miner. He loved to hunt and fish.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Faye Barlow Sheppard; a son, Tolbie Sheppard; and a daughter, Rosalie Balderson.
Those left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Lorrie Pafford and husband, Chris, of Newark, Del.; two brothers, Howard Sheppard and wife, Patty, of Kopperston and Donald Sheppard of Kopperston; three sisters, Maxyine Jude of Pembrooke, Va., Darlene Murphy and husband, Norman, of Kopperston, Debbie Hannah and husband, Terry, of Kopperston; two grandchildren, Nikole and Logan Pafford of Newark; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Casketbearers will be family and friends.

William Carl Stover
William Carl Stover, 85, of Maple Fork, formerly of Nesco, went to be with the Lord on his wife’s birthday, Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at his home following a long illness.
Born in Nesco on March 6, 1920, he was the son of the late William Hurst Stover and Cinda Davis Stover, and was reared by his aunt, Stella Davis, and his grandparents, William “Bud” Davis and Lena Fleshman Davis.
Mr. Stover was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. During WW II, he was the first to be drafted into service from the Maple Fork area. He was a proud member of Infantry Division, Big Red I, and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA and Mabscott Christian Baptist Church.
He was a beloved father to his children and he loved his children very much. He was a born-again Christian.
He also enjoyed hunting.
His wife of 60 years, Freeda Mae Stover, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children, Larry Carl Stover and wife, Buelah, of Dandridge, Tenn., Virginia Carol Stover of Slatington, Pa., Linda Rose Hill and husband, James, of Witcher, Cinda Kaye Guy and husband, Jack, of Maple Fork and Bobby Dean Stover and wife, Alice, of Packs Branch; a brother, James Stover of Louisville, Ky.; a half brother, Jerry Stover of Virginia; a half sister, Nancy Pugh of Beckley; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Service will be noon Sunday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Harmon Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Agnes Baldwin Whitener
FAIRFAX, Va. — Agnes Baldwin Whitener, 75, formerly of Beckley, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, from a stroke at Fairfax Hospital.
Born Nov. 28, 1930, to Bernice Marie Wright Baldwin and John Milton Baldwin in Matoaka, she moved to Beckley in 1930. Agnes graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley and received her B.A. in instrumental music with a minor in English with honors in 1952, and her M.A. in education from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.
She married Carr C. “Jack” Whitener, who was in the Air Force, in 1952. She lived in Biloxi, Miss., Honolulu, Hawaii, Sacramento, Calif., Yokota Air Base (near Tokyo, Japan), Syracuse, N.Y., Albuquerque, N.M., and Springfield, Va. In 1970, her husband was stationed at the Pentagon, and they remained there until her death.
Mrs. Whitener taught intermediate school English and high school band in Albuquerque and English at Yokota Air Base, Japan. In 1970, she became an orchestra teacher for Faixfax County public schools. Her orchestra won top honors in Fairfax County. At Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, the orchestra grew from two students to over 50 musicians. In addition, she held annual children’s concerts for hundreds of area preschool and kindergarten children whom she called “Lollipops.” Her brother, Jon Karl Baldwin of Beckley, helped with this as “Captain Lollipop.”
For many years Agnes served on the board for the National School Orchestra Association. She was a violinist for the Fairfax Symphony. A member of Springfield United Methodist Church for 35 years, Agnes enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque and assistant scout leader in Springfield.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Carr C. Whitener (lieutenant colonel, USAF, retired); two daughters, Jill Laurie Campbell (Edward) of Glendale, Ariz., and Robin Diane Whitener Wilkins (Ken) of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Christopher Earl Campbell, 20, and Tiffany Marie Campbell, 17, of Glendale, and Katherine Diane Wilkins, 18, Daniel John Whitener Wilkins, 12, and David Carr Choate Whilkins, 4, of Atlanta. Her loving sister, Norma Jean Baldwin Davidson, recently deceased, lived in Beckley.
Memorial service will be today at Springfield United Methodist Church. Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday at Arlington National cemetery.

Dolores Mae Barnett
RAINELLE — Dolores Mae Barnett, 67, of Rainelle, passed away Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, in the Memorial Division of Charleston Area Medical Center following a long illness.
Born Feb. 14, 1938, at Hico, she was the daughter of the late John Russell and Watha Armentrout Mitchell.
Mrs. Barnett last worked for the Greenbrier County Committee on Aging and was a member of Sewell Valley Baptist Church in Rainelle.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Barnett.
Survivors include two sons, J.R. “Rusty” Barnett of Stony Point, N.C., and B. Kevin Barnett and wife, Tammy, of Frankford; a sister, Sheila Waid and husband, Leonard, of Quinwood; her stepfather, Harold Langlais of Rainelle; five granddaughters, Megan, Heather, Brittany, Ashley and Cari; and a grandson, Zachary.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor John Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow in Martin cemetery, Crag.
