Eva Mabel Morrison

Eva Mabel Morrison, 87, of Barboursville passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at Teays Valley Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Dr. David Lemming. Entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born on September 8, 1917, in Logan County, West Virginia a daughter of the late Floyd and Pearl White McNeely. She was a retired nurse having worked at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Guyandotte Order of the Eastern Star #89. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W. Morrison, and one step-son, Howard “Billy” Morrison. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Clarence “Bill” and Linda Kay Morrison of Barboursville; one step-daughter, Bonnie Lou Walters of Barboursville; two grandchildren, Scott Matthew Morrison, Mary Beth Freeman and her husband Donal of Huntington; two great-grandchildren, Robert Scott Freeman and Jillian Kay Freeman. Eastern Star services were conducted Tuesday at the funeral home.

Helen Dawn Wears

Helen Dawn Wears, 80, of Hurricane died Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at Pat Christner Hill Top Manor, Pt. Pleasant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ralph, and her only son, James Craig Wears, who died while serving during the Vietnam War.

She was retired from FMC with over 40 years of service. She was an avid bowler, gardener and quilter.

Surviving: sister, Mary Richard of Denver, Colorado; several nieces and nephews; caregiver, Pat Christner.

Service was held Friday, October 29, 2004, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, with Pastor Rob VanFossen officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Brenda Joyce Cook

Brenda Joyce Cook, 62, of Scott Depot, formerly of Madison and Foster, died October 24, 2004.

She was born August 17, 1942 in Jeffrey, a daughter of the late Lawrence Reginald and Nina Marie Ball Barker.

She was raised in the Jeffrey Methodist Church, was a member of the Scott Depot Christ Fellowship, Maranatha Fellowship, Six Mile Methodist Church, and First Presbyterian Church, St. Albans. She was a singer and songwriter and was a graduate of Scott High School.

Surviving: sons and their wives, Wendle and Tammy Cook of Hewett, Jerry Dean Cook of South Charleston, John and Kelly Cook of Griffithsville, Joshua Dewey and Madi Miller of Red House, and James Travis Miller of Charleston; sisters, Janet Doss and Sandra Chittum, both of Hurricane, and Barbara Theirel of Kanawha City; six grandchildren.

Service was held Wednesday, October 27, 2004, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with the Rev. Roger McCauley and Earl Akers officiating. Entombment was in Garden of Devotion Mausoleum in Memory Gardens, Madison.

Charles E. Hampton

Charles E. Hampton, 61, of Poca died October 25 2004.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, was in charge of arrangements.

Georgia L. Adkins

Georgia L. Adkins, 82, of Winfield died October 24, 2004.

Service was held Thursday, October 28, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley.

Florence Sprouse

Florence Herbert Sprouse, 84, of Waverly, Ohio died October 24, 2004, after a long illness.

She was program director for Literacy Volunteers in Putnam County and for many years was a volunteer in the literacy program in several areas of West Virginia. She held undergraduate and graduate degrees from West Virginia University and a graduate degree from Marshall University.

A memorial service was held Saturday, October 30, 2004, at Bristol Village Retirement Community in Waverly, Ohio, where she resided.

Memorial donations may be sent to The Literacy Volunteers of Putnam County, 4219 State Route 34, Hurricane WV 25526.

Jesse V. Wilkinson

Jesse Vanden Wilkinson, 11, of Corss Lnes died October 25, 2004, in CAMC Women and Children's Hospital.

He was a fifth grad student at Cross Lanes Christian School, a member of the band where he enjoyed playing the drums and a member of Corss Lanes Bible Church where he was involved in the Awana Program. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing, golfing and driving his go-cart.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Betty Jane Wilkinson.

Surviving: mother, Eva Wilkinson Harris; grandfather, Charles V. Wilkinson; uncle, Charles G. Wilkinson of Poca; aunt, Nancy Soke of Florida; cousins, Reanne and Lindsey Wilkinson.

Service was held Friday, October 29, 2004, at Cross Lanes Bible Church with Pastor David Buckley and Pastor Dan Burger officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to Cross Lanes Bible Church, 5442 Big Tyler Road, Cross Lanes WV 25313.

Virginia Tincher

Virginia Allen Tincher, 91, of Hurricane died October 27, 2004, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

She was born near Hurricane, the daughter of Pearl W. Allen ad Geneva Holcomb Allen. She was a member of Mount Olive Independent Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as brothers, William H., Harold W. and Adrian E. Allen, all of Hurricane, and sisters, Evelyn H. Spry of Ashville, North Carolina and Eleanor Escue of St. Albans.

Surviving: husband, Bernard Tincher Sr.; daughters, Bonnie Tincher of South Charleston and Ann Marquez of Miami Beach, florida; sons, Robert R. Tincher of Bastavia, Ohio, Bernard Tincher Jr. of Hurricane and John David Tincher of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte A. Constantini of Santa Cruz, California and Lorraine A. Melton of Springfield, Missouri; brothers, Pearl W. and David V. Allen, both of Hurricane; six half-sisters; two half-brothers; a host of nieces and nephews.

Service was held Saturday, October 30, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Winford Curry and Pastor Doral Means officiating. Burial was in Mount Olive Cemetery.

Clark David Dillon Sr.

Clark David Dillon Sr., 81, of Hurricane died October 28, 2004, at Putnam General Hospital, following an apparent heart attack.

Born November 20, 1922 in South Charleston, he was the next to youngest son of the late Frank and Liza Miller Dillon. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Dillon; daughters, Judy Bias Dillon and Edna Mae Blazedale; and son, David Dillon.

He was retired from the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union Local 625 with 51 years of service and attended Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Hurricane.

Surviving: wife, Frances L. Dillon; daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Mike Barnhart of Madison, Tanya and William Gibson of Hurricane; sons and daughters-in-law, Clark D. “Pete” Jr. and Lou Dillon of Racine, Roger and Doris Dillon of Cross Lanes, Rick and Pam Dillon of Hurricane, Jimmie and Crystal Gibson of St. Albans, Harry and Glenda Edwards of Culloden, Tom and Laura Gibson of Winfield; brother, the Rev. Bill Dillon and wife, Donna, of Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.

Service was held Monday, November 1, 2004, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Goff and Dr. Kregg Burris officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Samuel L. Martin

Samuel L. “Lockie” Martin, 70, of Scott Depot died Sunday, October 31, 2004, at his residence.

He was retired from Perry & Hilton Coal Company, a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Hurricane, and a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Mattie Kennison Martin; sister, Virginia Shelton, and a brother, Garland Martin.

Surviving: wife, Dorothy A. Tincher Martin; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Kevin Wiseman of Winfield, Alice and Jim Shedd of Scott Depot; sister, Glena Lackey of Smoot; brother, Glae Martin of White sville; grandchildren, Joshua Wiseman, Kim Cella Davis, Samuel Wiseman, and Kelsey Shedd.

Service was held Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, with Pastor Millard R. Mitchell officiating.

Ray E. Payne

Ray E. Payne, 87, of Poca died October 30, 2004, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.

He was retired from Monsanto Chemical with 32 years of service, was a member of the Heizer Creek Community Church, a member of Nitro Senior Citizens, and an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed singing bass.

Surviving: his wife of 22 years, Drema Payne; stepson, Jackie Creasey of Poca; sister, Opal McClure of Knoxville, Tennessee; brothers, Bill Payne of Ravenswood and Bob Payne of Hurricane; two stepgrandchildren.

Service was held Thursday, November 4, 2004, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Randy Carter officiating. Burial was in Haven of Res Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Brenda Joyce Cook

Brenda Joyce Cook, 62, 17 year resident of Scott Depot, WV, formerly of Madison and Foster, died October 24, 2004.

Services were held Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with the Rev. Roger McCauley and Earl Akers officiating. Entombment in the Garden of Devotion Mausoleum in Memory Gardens, Madison, WV.

William “Bill” Braley

Mr. William “Bill” Braley, 88, of Huntington passed away at his residence Friday, Oct. 29, 2004. He was born June 8, 1916, in Huntington, the son of the late Emsley Wilson and Ada Yeich Braley. He was a retired electrician from INCO and a member of Pea Ridge United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Eloise Lawhorn Braley; one son, Wilson of Huntington; a daughter, Jane, and her husband, Bill Garrison of Spruce Pine, N.C.; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Colin Braley, Dr. Adrian Singleton and Katie Garrison. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Henson Mortuary with the Rev. Sue Jarrett officiating. Entombment in Ridgelawn Memorial Park Abby of Devotion. Cy Cox

Cy Cox, 89, of Culloden, husband of Margaret Jane Bransford Cox, died Thursday, October 28, 2004 at home. He was retired from Carbide power department. Funeral services were held Monday, November 1, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, W.Va.; burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.

Robert Paul Jeffrey

Robert Paul Jeffrey, 80, of Barboursville died Thursday, Oct 28, 2004, in St Mary's Medical Center. He was born on July 11, 1924, on his family's home place. He was a member of Dillon Chapel United Methodist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He retired from the Cabell County Board of Education with 20 years of service. Paul was also a member of the Hilltop Sportsman Club and an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard Filmore and Eula Dillon Jeffrey and brothers, Charles, Leo, Ray and Roy. Robert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pauline Dial Jeffrey; daughter, Paula Jenkins and her husband, Don Jenkins, of Barboursville; sons, Robert W. Jeffrey of Huntington and Richard Jeffrey of Charleston; grandson, Roby W. Jeffrey of Barboursville; Andrew M. Jenkins and his wife, Courtney R. Jenkins, of Scott Depot W.Va.; grandson Mac Chapman of Morgantown, W.Va.; granddaughter, Rachel M. Jeffrey of Pittsburgh, Pa.; granddaughter, Ashley Jenkins-Miller and her husband, Michael G. Miller, of Pittsburgh; and great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Jenkins. He is also survived by four brothers, Vivian, Tom, Stacy and Jack Jeffrey, all of Barboursville; and one sister, Evelyn Eden of Barboursville. Services were held Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, W.Va., with the Rev. Michael Rowe and Tommy Jeffrey officiating; Burial followed in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.
