Donna L. Fritz Matherly
Donna L. Fritz Matherly, 58, of MacArthur, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at her home following a short illness.
Born June 30, 1947, at Kincaid, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clyde Cook and Blanche Adkins Cook Holliday.
Mrs. Matherly was a homemaker and a former employee of Woodell’s Jewelry. She was a member of the Cranberry Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Fritz.
Survivors include her husband, James Matherly; daughters, Susie Snyder and husband, Rob, of Beaver, and Lisa Scott and husband, Howard, of Beaver; a half brother, Robert Holliday of Nebraska, and grandchildren, Tyler Hodge, Brooke and John Scott.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Roger Pauley officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Harvey Buford Maynor
Harvey Buford Maynor, 63, of Toney’s Fork, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a short illness.
Born May 24, 1942, at Clear Creek, he was the son of the late Elmer and Ollie Bailey Maynor.
Mr. Maynor was a retired coal miner. He was a member of the Sycamore Church of God.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a loyal friend to many.
One brother, Harless Maynor, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dillard and Margie Workman, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Workman Maynor of Toney’s Fork; two sons, Harvey Lee Maynor of Toney’s Fork, and Eric Maynor and wife, Gaynell, of Naoma; eight grandchildren, Erica Maynor, Jason Maynor, Courtney Williams and her husband, Jake, Amber Massey, Ethan Maynor, Nicholas Maynor, Nathan Maynor and Caitlyn Maynor; two great-grandchildren, Clayton and Kaylee Williams. He is also survived by a brother, Clarence Maynor of Jeffersonville, Ind.; three sisters, Flossie Mullins of Packs Branch, Stella Craddock and Rodie Stover, both of Maple Fork; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Graveside rites and committal service will be 12 noon Wednesday at Toney’s Fork cemetery, Ewing Creek, with the Rev. Jerry Tyree and Scott Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in Toney’s Fork cemetery, Ewing Creek.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Sycamore Church of God.
Pallbearers will be Justin Stover, Jake Williams, Randy Williams, Scottie Stanley and Rick Blizzard.

Geneva Link Rupe
Geneva Link Rupe, 85, of Beaver, passed away Dec. 4, 2005.
Born Jan. 2, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Posey and Anna Lee Link.
Mrs. Rupe was a beautician for 45 years and previously attended Crow Christian Church. She spent several years in Florida before returning to West Virginia.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Victor Rupe; two brothers, Paul Link and Howard Link; and a sister, Frances Scott.
Those left to cherish her loving memory include four sisters, Legatha Furrow and her husband, Walter, of Crow, Martha Phelps and husband, Ashford, of Miami, W.Va., Joyce Jordan and husband, Ken, of Crow, and Patricia Campbell of Crow; a brother, Jerry Link and his wife, Jean, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Mrs. Rupe will be interred in the Garden of Memories cemetery, Tampa, Fla.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Kathleen Retha Sloan
On Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, surrounded by her family, Kathleen Retha Sloan, of Crichton, died peacefully at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center following a long illness. She was in her 79th year.
Kathleen was born April 18, 1926, at Marfrance, W.Va., as the second of nine children born to Lacy and Finest Hughart.
Mrs. Sloan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a dedicated school teacher for more than 27 years.
Mrs. Sloan has gone to Heaven to teach all the little angels. Other than her mother, Finest Hughart, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Hughart.
Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Henry Sloan of Crichton; sons, Anthony Sloan of Crichton, and Audie Sloan and wife, Brenda, of Leslie; father, Lacy Hughart of Summersville; three brothers, Romey Hughart and wife, Irene, of Ravenswood, Frank Hughart and wife, Janette, of Summersville, Victory Hughart and wife, Shirley, of Summersville; five sisters, Josephine Hartley and husband, Leewood, of Summersville, Geraldine Roberts and husband, Angelo, of Summersville, Corrine Dorsey and husband, Clarence, of Summersville, Elvaleen Fisher of Summersville, and Maxine Gates and husband, BJ, of Summersville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with the Rev. Melvin “Buck” Nottingham officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Ce-metery, Clintonville.
Pallbearers will be the men of Moose Lodge No. 1647 in Rainelle.
Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Pamela Butcher.

Frank L. Spicer
LEWISBURG — Frank L. Spicer, 68, passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
Frank was born Aug. 22, 1937, in Atlanta, Ga., to the late Lindell L . “Jack” Spicer and Vera Torre.
Mr. Spicer was a member of the Old Stone Presbyterian Church and was retired from the West Virginia Daily News after serving 34 years as advertising manager and as publisher. He headed Penny Pitch for over 30 years. He was the president of the West Virginia Press Association. He was a professional musician, playing big bass, and performed with national and local groups, as well as with The Greenbrier Valley Theatre. He held offices in the American Federation of Musicians Local No. 674, formerly taught at the Greenbrier Military School and worked and was manager of WRON. He was a former member of the Lewisburg Rotary Club and was a KoreanNavy veteran, having served in Japan.
Survivors include his wife, Jane W. Spicer of Lewisburg; two daughters, Catherine Spicer of Chicago, Ill., and Sarah Spicer of Columbus, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Shafer and husband, Allen, of Ruckersville, Va.; and two grandchildren, Brenna and Evan Shafer.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Greenbrier Valley Theatre with Dr. Dexter Taylor officiating. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Penny Pitch, Greenbrier Valley Theatre or the Lewisburg Library.

Thomas ‘Tom’ Toney Sr.
DOTHAN — Thomas “Tom” Lee Toney Sr., 72, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Beckley following a long illness.
Born May 7, 1933, at Scarbro, he was the son of the late William J. and Anna Patrick Toney.
Mr. Toney was a retired carpenter and a member of Local No. 1911. Tom was a Buck Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry D. Toney; a sister, Martha Rose Toney; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Lee “T” Toney Jr. and wife, Shawn, of Oak Hill, and William Joseph “Billy” Toney II and wife, Kara, of Rock Hill, S.C.; three sisters, Marcella T. Manning and husband, Melvin, of Dothan, Glenda G. Adkins of Port Orange, Fla., and Nancy Ann McMillion and husband, Stanley, of Salem, Va.; five grandchildren, Heath and Brian Thomas Toney and Samantha, Megan and Noah Toney; and by several nieces and nephews. He was loved by all.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill. Burial will follow in the Peters cemetery at Dothan. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Oak Hill VFW Post No. 3110.
Visitation will be 12 noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Oak Hill.

HINTON — Lois I. Welch Willey, 73, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005.
Graveside service and burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hallidan cemetery at Green Sulphur Springs. There will be no visitation.

A service to celebrate the life of Joseph Ray Wood will be 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Mary Jane Community Church at Jumping Branch.
