Lionel Rodney Facemire

SUMMERSVILLE — Lionel Rodney Facemire, 64, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, in the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

He was the son of Jessie Butcher Facemire of Summersville and the late Foster Rodney Facemire, and was born at Charleston on May 7, 1941.

He was the foun-der of Kirk-wood Winery in Sum-mersville, a member of the Nicholas County Farm Bureau and Fair Board, the Southern West Virginia CVB, Odd Fellows Lodge No. 25 and Summersville Walkoma Lodge No. 52 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of Summersville Masonic Lodge No. 76, the Beni Keedem Temple, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, York Rite and Summersville Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving besides his mother are his wife, Carol Hamrick Facemire; a daughter, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Margaret Facemire at home; sons, Timothy Isaiah Morgan Facemire at home and Lovell Richard Facemire of Elkview; three brothers, Shirley Morris of Canvas, David Facemire of Titusville, Fla., and Daniel Facemire of Radford, Va.; three sisters, Patty Cook and Joan McKenzie, both of Summersville, and Shirley Yoxtheimer of Bostwick, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Summersville Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Damon Rhodes and the Rev. Nelson Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Walker Memorial Park, Summersville, with Masonic grave rites.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Nazarene Camp Tabernacle located on Route 41 in Summersville.

Bethel Leah Kessinger Fields

ALDERSON — Bethel Leah Kessinger Fields, 89, of Alderson, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a short illness.

Born July 18, 1916, at Willow Bend, she was the daughter of the late Oma and Zella Ballard Kessinger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Fullen.

Mrs. Fields was a retired beautician and was the owner and operator of Beth’s Beauty Shop, Alderson, for 40 years. She was a 1934 graduate of Greenville High School and graduated from Martz Beauty School, Huntington. Following her retirement, she worked as a volunteer at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, for 19 years.

Mrs. Fields was a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, Alderson, where she was a member of the Ladies Circle and was active for many years in various church activities and organizations. She was a member of the Woman’s Club of Alderson for more than 40 years, and she had a great love for all animals, especially cats and dogs.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Howard William Fields; a son, Barry E. Worrell and his wife, Linda, of Chandler, Ariz.; a sister, Oleva Baker and her husband, Leroy, of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, William Curtis Worrell and his wife, Brenda, of Warsaw, Ind., Bari-tennette McKinley and her husband, Jay, of Chesapeake Beach, Md., and Leah Henley and her husband, Chris, of Mesa, Ariz.; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ruth Altare of Alderson, Rachel Rookstool of Navarre, Fla., and Dolly Graziani and her husband, Jack Palmer, of Milton, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with the Rev. Sam Groves officiating. Burial will follow in Alderson cemetery.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Darrell Quillen, Ronald Quillen, Harold Ballard, Jack Palmer, James Montgomery, Larry Patton and John Hedrick.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the caregivers Kathy Longanacre, Faye Carter and Theresa Vance.

Gloria Elizabeth Holbert

HILLTOP — Gloria Elizabeth Holbert, 70, of Hilltop, died Sunday, April 23, 2006. She was a daughter of the late Allie Preston Holbert and Fannie Faye Garten.

Survivors are a daughter, Donna Holbert Shrout of Oak Hill; stepfather, Charles Henry Shrout; two brothers; and two grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the funeral home.

Evelyn Kathryn Feazelle Hoskins

Evelyn Kathryn Feazelle Hoskins, 89, of Sweeneysburg Road, Beckley, died Monday, April 24, 2006, in Myrtle Beach, S.C., following a massive stroke.

Born Dec. 26, 1916, in Raleigh County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Alexander and Mable Christine Feazelle.

Mrs. Hoskins was a homemaker. She was a member of Maynor Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Abraham Hoskins; a sister, Mary Evans; two brothers, Charles Feazelle Jr. and William “Billy” Feazelle; and a grandson, Jerry Hoskins.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Hoskins of Arlington, Va.; three sons, George D. Hoskins and wife, Christel, of Myrtle Beach, Jack Hoskins and wife, Judy, of Lawton, Okla., and Lewis Hoskins and wife, Sheri, of Beckley; a brother, Robert “Bobby” L. Feazelle of Daniels; two sisters, Ethel Pennington of Beckley and Betty Wilson of Fairfax, Va.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, with the Rev. Forrest Gray officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jerry M. Jones

LOOKOUT — Jerry M. Jones, 57, passed away Monday, April 24, 2006, following a short illness.

He was born March 16, 1949, at Lookout, and was the son of the late Eddie C. and Viola Bickford Jones.

Jerry was a member of the Moose Lodge, DAV, American Kennel Club and a disabled U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Sonia Jones; a daughter, Kristen Alden of Rhode Island; four sisters, Faye Nelson of Columbus, Ohio, Kathy Lesher and Joe of Ansted, Donna Walton and Allen of Ansted and Patti Jones of Columbus; and five grandchildren, Ashley Alden, Danielle Alden, Chandler Osborne, Jason Falbo and Trevor Batey.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Ansted, with Pastor Allen Travis officiating. Burial will follow in Goodhope cemetery, Graydon.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel.

Dr. John Bernard Jones

Dr. John Bernard Jones, 76, born March, 13, 1930, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2006.

John Ber-nard Jones was born in Fayette County to Burrell Jones and Mildred Hicks. He is survived by his loving wife, Dreama I. Wright; daughter, Cynthia Ann Gray and husband, James; sons, Mark Bernard and wife, Marva, John Wesley and wife, Soniah, and Leonard McKinney and wife, Geeta; grandchildren, Marcus, Julia, Chelsea, John Wesley II and Deven. He is also survived by his mother, Mildred Williams, and brother, William. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Burrell J. Jones.

“Doc” began his formal education at Bluefield State College where he was an athletic standout. He received undergraduate degrees from Bluefield State as well as West Virginia State University. He went on to receive a Master’s degree from West Virginia University, and his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

“Doc” held various roles with a wide variety of responsibilities with numerous primary, secondary as well as collegiate level institutions. These organizations include, but are not limited to, West Virginia public schools, West Virginia State University, West Virginia University, University of Pittsburgh, Piney Woods Country Life School, Rust College, Meridian Community College, as well as Mississippi State University. In all of his roles “Doc” worked selflessly in his efforts to enhance and educate young people of all walks of life. He was a leader by example and dedicated his life work to empowering and helping people less fortunate. His wit, knowledge, courage and empathy toward others will long be cherished by family, friends, as well as colleagues.

He honorably served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

The following list is not close to being all inclusive of the many boards and organizations. He was a life member of the following organizations: Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Phi Delta Kappa International.

He was on the Board of Directors for the following groups: East Mississippi Development Corp., Civitan Club of Meridian, Meridian Child Development Center (chair), Meridian Airport Authority, American Cancer Society, Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs, Meridian Housing Authority (Advisory Council chairman resident), Mississippi Main Street Association, mid-Mississippi Development District (treasurer), Mississippi Minority Business Alliance, Zoning Board of Appeal — Meridian, Meridian Retirement Connection Committee, Lauderdale County 4-H Council, Saint James AME Church and Mississippi State Board of Corrections.

A viewing gathering to celebrate his life will be 10 a.m. to noon today, where service will be noon at Saint Paul Baptist Temple, 129 Rice St., Beckley, with Pastor Walter M. Leach officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. VFW Post 4326 of Midway will conduct military graveside rites.

LERONA — Nancy Lamie died Monday, April 24, 2006.

Service will be 11 a.m. today at Burns Wornal Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton.

Minnie Morgan

GILBERT — Minnie Morgan, 58, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Browning Fork House of Faith at Browning Fork, Gilbert. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the church.

Stella Mae Darnell Mullens

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Stella Mae Darnell Mullens, 88, formerly of Sophia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 19, 2006, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center following a long illness.

She was born Nov. 7, 1917, in Atkins, Va., to the late Braxton McKee and Mamie Ethel Hodge Darnell, formerly of Sophia.

Mrs. Mullens was a homemaker and a member of Cookeville Freewill Baptist Church and a former member of Sophia Freewill Baptist Church.

She also sang with the Mullens Quartet with her husband, the Rev. Joseph William Mullens, with whom she was married 67 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Mullens, and a daughter, Sonny Mullens.

Her family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Rex Lunsford of Cookeville; two brothers, Brack Darnell and Bobby Darnell of Coal City; four sisters, Marie Deweese of Bradley, Ruth Worrell and Loraine Porter, both of Sophia, and Irene Milam of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Darryl Lunsford, Cheryl Janzen and Charlotte Patrick; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard, Jay, Eugene and Johnny Darnell; and two sisters, Ethel Farley and Mary Kelly.

Service was noon Saturday, April 22, at the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home, Cookeville. Burial followed in West cemetery, Cookeville. Brothers Tim Franks and Carson Whiteaker officiated the service.

Maggie Berthal Shields Pennock

CARLISLE — Maggie Berthal Shields Pennock, 99, of Carlisle, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at Hidden Valley Healthcare Center in Oak Hill.

Born Dec. 18, 1906, at Carlisle, she was the daughter of the late Wallace Shields and Rosie Toney Shields Bruno and stepdaughter of the late Frank Bruno.

Mrs. Pennock was a homemaker. She was a member of Scarbro Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Etheal Emmett Pennock; a son, Clarence Raymond Pennock; two brothers, Alva Shields and Leo Shields; and two half sisters, Ruby Bruno Dooley and Gladys Bruno Cody.

Survivors include three sons, Emmett Franklin Pennock and wife, Loretta, of Oak Hill, Alva Marion Pennock and wife, Patricia, of Parkersburg and Richard Leon Pennock of Dale City, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Bob Creed officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Almeda Pearl McGuire Rutledge

CUNARD — Almeda Pearl Fedukovich McGuire Rutledge, 75, of Cunard, departed this life Monday, April 24, 2006, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Evelyn McGuire in Ransom, Ky.

Born Oct. 13, 1930, on Salem-Gatewood Road, she was the daughter of the late Sedor Fedukovich and Virgie Tincher Fedukovich.

Mrs. Rutledge was a homemaker and was of the Christian faith. She loved embroidering and she loved to ride around and picnic. Fall was her favorite time of the year.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Dale McGuire; a son, Anthony Dale McGuire; two brothers, Wetzel and Moxie Fedukovich; and a sister, Madeline Buttrick.

Survivors include her two sons, Dennis McGuire and his wife, Evelyn, of Ransom, Ky., and Brent McGuire of Matewan; three daughters, Carolyn Walters of California, Connie McGuire and her companion, Ronnie Riley, of Cunard and Cheryl Lynn Basham and husband, Robert, of Wise, Va.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, John Fedukovich, Paul Fedukovich and Hardy Fedukovich, all of Wonderland, and Philip Fedukovich of Oak Hill; three sisters, Dorothy Anderson and Helen Bakosky, both of Wonderland, and Lizzie of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Connie Morris and Sue Schlatman for helping in Almeda’s times of need.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Jack McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in Bibb cemetery, Gatewood.

The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
