Clarence F. Stoots

Clarence F. Stoots, 75, of Beckley, died Monday, May 14, 2007, in a local hospital following a sudden illness.

Harvey Jerry Bailey

CHESTER, Va. — Harvey Jerry Bailey, 65, formerly of Glen Fork, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 12, 2007, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Aug. 22, 1941, at Glen Fork, he was the son of the late Thomas Bea Bailey and Ruth Pettry Bailey.

Mr. Bailey attended Ironbridge Baptist Church and Enon Church of God. Jerry had many close friends and co-workers, especially Chuck Bevins and Charlie Baxley, who will cherish his memory.

Jerry graduated from

Glen Ro-gers High School in 1959 and moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked for the FBI before joining the Washington D.C., Metropo-litan Po-

lice Department. His assignments included street patrol, K-9 unit, and he was promoted to sergeant in the Metro Division. He was an expert marksman with his pistol, having received numerous awards. Upon retirement from the police force, Jerry moved to Greenbrier County, residing in both Sinks Grove and Hinton, before moving to Richmond, Va. He was an avid boater and fisherman in both salt and freshwater and received citations for his fishing prowess.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Chela Bailey; a daughter, Dee Dee Tignor and her husband, Lee, of Stafford, Va.; two sons, Jerry Bea Bailey and Joshua Eric Bailey, both of Chester; a sister, Sharon Hager of Oceana; two grandchildren, Christopher Tignor and Victoria Tignor; and a special cousin, Trilla Massey and her husband, Bobby.

Service will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 17, at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Jerry Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Evans Funeral Home, Oceana, is serving the Bailey family.

Clara Mae Boggs

SUMMERSVILLE — Clara Mae Boggs, 71, died Monday, May 14, 2007.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Waters Funeral Chapel, Summersville. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Everett G. Buckland

FAYETTEVILLE — Everett Green Buckland, 88, of Fayetteville, passed away Monday, May 14, 2007, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, following an extended illness.

Born June 11, 1918, in Putnam County, he was the son of the late Henry Pearl Buckland and Leva Ann Armstrong Buckland.

Mr. Buckland was a member of Fayetteville First Church of God and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired coal miner from Union Carbide and a member of the UMWA.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Norman, Clay, Charles Clyde, Raymond and Earl; and two sisters, Kathleen Treadway and Beatrice Buckland.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 46 years, Carolyn Shockey Buckland; three children, Brenda Jeffries of Fayetteville and Henry Buckland and Leva Ann Buckland, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Josephine Woolwine of Fayetteville and Emma Wilson of Beckwith; four granddaughters, Ginger Payne, Nellie Payne, Erica Payne and Regina Payne and her fiancé, David Gilliam, all of Fayetteville; two great-grandsons, Isaiah Payne and Heath Gilliam; and a step-great-grandson, David Gilliam.

Service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, May 17, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Pastor Bob Coulter officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

FAYETTEVILLE — Teresa Lee Hovanski Johnson, 55, died Monday, May 14, 2007.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum No. 3, Beckley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the WVU Eye Institute, Children’s Vision Rehabilitation Program, Attn. Paula Lang, P.O. Box 9193, Morgantown, W.Va. 26506. Checks should be made payable to the WUV Foundation.

Anna H. Lawlor

Anna H. Lawlor, 94, of Beckley, formerly of Coal City, died Monday, May 14, 2007, at Pinecrest Hospital in Beckley following a long illness.

Born Feb. 17, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Anna Euble Enslin.

Mrs. Lawlor was born in the Bronx in New York City, N.Y. She was a homemaker and a retired employee of Lynchburg Training School Hospital in Lynchburg, Va. She attended Sunset Hills Missionary Baptist Church in Coal City. She was a lifetime member of the VFW in Richmond, Va.

Mrs. Lawlor was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lawlor Sr.; a son, Richard Lawlor Jr.; a sister, Katherine Wilshire; a brother, Charles Enslin; and a grandson, David Lawlor.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen Centers and husband, Ed, of Farley Hill and Irene Peters of Richmond; a son, Ronald Lawlor and wife, Philemina, of Hudson, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Whitten Monelison Funeral Chapel, Madison Heights, Va., with Dr. L. Wayne Meredith officiating. Burial will follow in Amherst cemetery, Amherst, Va.

Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the funeral home.

Jack Robert Logar

NETTIE — Jack Robert Logar, 50, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2007, following a long battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 20, 1956, at Elkins, the son of Elizabeth Jane Hambley Logar of Craigsville and the late Joseph Elwood Logar.

Mr. Logar was a disabled miner.

Other survivors include his loving wife of 29 years, Nora Williams Logar; two daughters, Kimberly Dawn Logar and husband, Carl Hodichak, of Ontario, Canada, and Christina Marie Smith and H. Doug of Levisay; four brothers, Albert of South Carolina, Joseph of Morgantown, Steve of Quinwood and Brian of Craigsville; three sisters, Jane of Richwood and Charlotte and Cindy Mullins, both of Summersville; and three granddaughters, Jacqualynn and Danielle Billups and Shelbie Logar-Hodichak.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Brant Seacrist officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery, Nettie.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Vada Loretta Scott, 83, of Beckley, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Davis Health Care Center in Wilmington, N.C.

PINEVILLE — Wayne Simpson, 81, departed this life Monday, May 14, 2007.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana.

The family will receive friends 1 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Mary Lue Staton

Mary Lue Staton, 80, formerly of Beckley, died Monday, May 14, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Born Oct. 5, 1926, at Idamay, she was a daughter of the late Thomas William Alkire and Joy Doris McClung Alkire. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alan Staton.

Mrs. Staton was a homemaker and loving mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Beckley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Edward Alkire.

Survivors include a son, Curtis Staton and wife, Johnette, of Beckley; four daughters, Janet Keith and husband, Tommy, of Green-ville, S.C., Cheryl Boblett and husband, Don, of Daniels, Rhonda Blevins and husband, Tom, of Hueytown, Ala.., and Debbie Markt and husband, Rick, of Aiken, S.C.; four brothers, Tom Alkire and wife, Ann, of Pulaski, Va., Robert Alkire of Moreland, Ga., Jim Alkire and wife, Elouise, of Pulaski and Ken Alkire and wife, Elvie, of Gales Ferry, Conn.; a sister, Adella Douglas of Gallantin, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Service will be noon today at First Baptist Church, 422 Neville St., Beckley, with the Rev. Dr. Phillip Smith officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service today at the church.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
