Clarence F. Stoots

Clarence F. Stoots, 75, of Beckley, died Sunday, May 13, 2007, in a local hospital following a sudden illness.

Born March 26, 1932, at Eccles, he was the son of the late Harry Franklin and Cora Princie Brunty Stoots.

Mr. Stoots was retired from the West Virginia Department of Human Services after 23 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and had been a lifetime resident of Raleigh County.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Williams Stoots.

Survivors include three sons, Clarence Herbert Stoots of Aiken, S.C., Harry Franklin Stoots of Concord, N.C., and Billy Stoots and wife, Kristina, of Concord; a daughter, Cora Ann Foster of Beckley; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and loving companion, Elizabeth Ann Anderson of Indiana.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Bill Parker officiating. Burial will fol-low in Calfee cemetery, Mount Tabor.

Friends may call one hour before service Thursday at the funeral home.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to a children’s charity of your choice.

Ruth Deloris Thompson

Ruth Deloris Thompson, 85, of Beckley, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at ARH, Beckley, following a long illness.

Leota Vandall

MEADOW BRIDGE — Leota Vandall, 89, died Sunday, May 13, 2007, at her home on Rt. 20, following a long illness.

Born Oct. 22, 1917, at Camp Creek in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Fredrick Lewis and Vada A. Maxey Epling.

Leota was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Meadow Bridge for more than 30 years, and was a homemaker.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Vandall; two sons, Teddy and Ronnie Vandall; four sisters, Zola Setliff, Lorena Farley, Alda Grace Epling and Jo Ann Epling; six brothers, Emil, Dacy (Bart), Luster, James, Duward, and Freddie Epling.

Survivors include a daughter, Markita Lilly of Princeton; three sons, Omer Gene Vandall and wife, Virginia, of Rainelle, Jerry Randall Vandall and wife, Pat, of Mocksville, N.C., and Ricky Wayne Vandall of Meadow Bridge; a sister, Carla Bell Farley of Titusville, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle with the Rev. Ferlin McClanahan officiating, assisted by Roger Shuck. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations of sympathy be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, 103 Eisenhower Drive, S.E., Beckley, WV 25801.

Perry Milton Simms

Perry Milton Simms, 94, formerly of Lewisburg, died Sunday, May 13, 2007.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Slaton Drake Smith

OAK HILL — Our most precious lil’ mountaineer went to join the angels in Heaven on Saturday, May 12, 2007, in Beckley, W.Va.

Slaton Drake Smith was the beautiful newborn son of William G. “Bill” Smith Jr. and JoSette (Settle) Smith of Oak Hill.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Suzanne Keffer of Oak Hill; maternal great-grandparents, Bill and Eva Fife of Sanger, Leonard Settle of Mossy and Harriet (Smith) Helems of Beaver; and paternal great-grandparents, Frank Bandy of Fayetteville, Leonard and Leapha (Mullins) Smith of Fayetteville.

Survivors include his parents, William G. “Bill” Smith and JoSette (Settle) Smith of Oak Hill; four brothers, Justin Robertson and Zach Smith of Oak Hill, Joshua Smith and Kaden Smith of Galloway, Ohio; a sister, Savannah Robertson of Oak Hill; maternal grandparents, Dallas and Becky Settle of Mossy; paternal grandparents, Gary and Susan Smith of Oak Hill and John and Lois Matthews of Fayetteville; maternal great-grandparents, Dorothy Settle of Mossy and Roman and Edna Helems of Beaver; paternal great-grandparents, Goldie and Austin Woolwine of Fayetteville and Kenneth and Eunice Dangerfield of Scarbro; four uncles, Shaun and Brandon Keffer of Oak Hill, Scott Settle of Oak Hill, and Jonathan Toney of Hawaii; two aunts, Jessica Settle of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Debbie (Smith) Trevithick of Buford, S.C.; baby Slaton’s God parents, Tony Pearson of Oak Hill and Norma (Palmer) Miller of Oak Hill.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service Tuesday at Gentry Baptist Church and the funeral services will begin at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Bill Drennen officiating. Upon the completion of the services, the funeral procession will pause in front of Slaton’s home for a moment and then proceed to Highlawn cemetery for burial.

If possible, please attach a WV flag to your vehicle during the funeral procession in memory of our beautiful lil’ mountaineer baby, Slaton Drake Smith. He will live in our hearts forever!

High Lawn Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

MEADOW BRIDGE — Leota Vandall, 89, of Meadow Bridge, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2007, at home.

Bonnie P. Troupe

Bonnie P. Troupe, 87, of Beckley, died Friday, May 11, 2007, at Nicholas County Health Care Center in Richwood following a long illness.

Born at New Richmond on Oct. 15, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Willard Lee Basham and Cinda Florence Shrewsbury Basham.

Mrs. Troupe was a retired waitress. She was a member of Herndon Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Brenda Hilton and husband, Walter, of Muskogee, Okla., Jimmy Troupe of Oklahoma and Richard Daniels and wife, Drema, of Mabscott; her sisters, Orean Kirk of Mullens, Dorothy Dillon of Spanishburg, Delphia Chow of Fort Scott, Kan., and Edna Umile of Coatsville, Pa.; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley.

There will be no visitation.

CRAIGSVILLE — Eugene L. “Gene” Woods, 82, of Craigsville, Nicholas County, died Friday, May 11, 2007.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, Craigsville. Friends may call one hour before service at the funeral home.

Inez Vada Blankenship

CYCLONE — Inez Vada Blankenship went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at the age of 94 years, seven months and 20 days, at her residence, surrounded by her family, following a long illness.

Born April 29, 1912, at Cyclone, she was the baby daughter of nine children of the late D.M. “Clell” Brown and Fannie Bell Bailey Brown.

Inez was the longest living member of Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church where she became a member at the age of 17. She was baptized May 29, 1929, by the Rev. Bruce Bailey. Inez was loved by all who knew her; she will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lee Blankenship; a son, Stacey Lee Blankenship; four sisters, Nettie A. Brown, Nellie James Toler, Icie Bell Brown and Nancy Stella Toler Garten; four brothers, Dewey A. Brown, Leonard H. Brown, Lacey R. Brown and Sherman Wade Brown; two grandsons, Freddie Franklin Daniels and Bobby Lee Brown Jr.; a granddaughter, Lois Ann Daniels; two great-granddaughters, Erin Mikkal Cobb and Christina Hope Blankenship; and a nephew, Nathan Toler, and a niece, Bradie Mae Garten, who were raised by Clell and Fannie Brown.

Those left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Shirley Mavis Brown of Cyclone, Geraldine Perry and her husband, Michael, of Cyclone and Netta Janice Daniels and her husband, Frank, of Matheny; a son, Earl Gene Blankenship and his wife, Donna, of Cyclone; brother-in-law, Calvin Blankenship Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Kopperston; sister-in-law, Gladys Brown; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; five nieces, Vivian Justice and her husband, LeRoy, of Charleston, Vernia Browning of Cyclone, Glendene Burns and her husband, Guy, of Florida, Karleen Slaughter and her husband, Harry, of Whinfield and Donna Jean Brown of Huntington; two dear friends, Statt and Marie Hannah; and a host of other dear family and friends.

A celebration of Inez’s life will be 1 p.m. Friday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Steven Walls, the Rev. John Toler, the Rev. Merl Walls and dear friend Minnis Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

A special “Thank You” to Rosetta Bailey, Man Home Health Care, Hospice care givers and Dr. Bhavsar.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Stella Josephine Canterbury

Stella Josephine Canterbury of Beckley, formerly of Rock Creek, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006.

At Mrs. Canterbury’s request, there will be no visitation. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Scarbro cemetery, Rock Creek.

Virginia Faye Cassinelli

MULLENS — Virginia Faye Cassinelli, 72, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at Greystone Village Inn, Beaver, after a short illness.

She was born Feb. 11, 1934, at Bulan, Ky., and was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Magdalena Manzoni Cassinelli.

Virginia was a graduate of Mullens High School, Class of 1951, and West Virginia University, 1955, majoring in business administration.

She was employed by Nationwide Insurance Co. of Columbus, Ohio, retiring in 1997. Virginia was active in volunteer work with the Columbus Library, American Red Cross and church activities. She also attended St. John’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Mary R. Campbell of Mullens, Geneva L. McGovern of Fairfax Station, Va., and Elizabeth “Libby” Kosco and husband, Mike, of Beckley; two brothers, Anthony Pete Cassinelli and wife, Danilee, of Maitland, Fla., and Alfred Frank Cassinelli of Rotunda Beach, Fla.; 13 nieces and nephews; 13 grandnieces; and 13 grandnephews.

Liturgy Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Mullens, with Father Samuel Sacus and Father Jack Reich as celebrants. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

The family welcomes friends 6:30 to 9 p.m. today at Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens, where a Rosary service will be held at 8:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church, 13 Terry St., Mullens, WV 25882.

Pallbearers will be John Merlin Campbell, Kevyn Campbell McBride, Kent Michael McBride, Robert Merlin Scott, Kenneth Wayne McBride, Robert Scott, III, Chris Spradlin and Mike Kosco.

Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens, is in charge of arrangements.

Gaynelle C. Dahmer

LEWISBURG — Gaynelle C. Dahmer, 80, of Lewisburg, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.

Born Nov. 6, 1926, at Gap Mills, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Rossie Wickline Crosier.

She was a member of Lewisburg United Methodist Church and was a retired school teacher with Wetzel County Schools.

In addion to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Dahmer; two daughters, Sue Gayle Ritz and husband, Terry, of Leesburg, Va., and Marilyn Sargent of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Alma Campbell of Lewisburg and Irma Curran of Lewisburg; and two grandchildren, Gayle Prince and Amy Ritz.

A memorial service will be held in January.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lewisburg United Methodist Church, 214 E. Washington St., Lew-isburg, WV 24901.

Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg, is in charge of arrangements.
