RONCEVERTE — Helen G. Wiseman Lynch, 86, passed away April 16, 2007.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Ronceverte.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, 502 Monroe Ave., Ronceverte, WV 24970.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. — Claudell N. Free Oyenik, 78, died Monday, April 16, 2007, in Chicago Heights.

HINTON — Wilbur W. Pack, 75, died April 17, 2007, in the McDowell Nursing Center at Gary, following a long illness.

Doris Janavee Richardson

Doris Janavee Richardson, age 86, of Maple Meadow Mine Road, Fairdale, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at her home following a long illness.

Born at Jesse, on Oct. 24, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Virgil D. Bailey, who died on April 10, 1993, and Janie Cook Bailey, who died Oct. 4, 2004.

Mrs. Richardson was a homemaker and a member of the Stevens Baptist Church at Maple Meadow.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Richardson, in 1988; a daughter, Carol; and four stillborn children; by sisters, Gloria Bailey on Oct. 19, 1930, and Madge Dancy on May 27, 1986; and a brother, Sebert Bailey on Oct. 28, 2000.

Surviving are a son, Czerna Richardson and wife, Norma, of Maple Meadow, with whom she had made her home; brothers, Dwight Bailey and his wife, Barnelle, of Fredericksburg, Va., Earsel Bailey of Maple Meadow, and Hollis Bailey and his wife, Zetta, of Maple Meadow; sisters, Joy Totten and her husband, Jim, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Avis Bailey of Beckley, Mavis Manning and her husband, Carlos, of Maple Meadow; three grandchildren, Gary Dale Richardson and wife, Tammy, of Maple Meadow, David Wayne Richardson and wife, Penny, of Crab Orchard, and Czerna Richardson Jr. and wife, Renee, of Abilene, Texas; and nine great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with the Rev. Donven Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Carlos Earl Shaver, 82, died Sunday, April 15, 2007.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson. Burial to follow in Alderson cemetery.

Tawnya Renee Sartin

GLEN FORK — Tawnya Renee Sartin, 31, of Glen Fork passed away Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following a short illness.

Born Nov. 2, 1975, in Cabell County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Ray Sartin and Ledema Messer Thompson of Glen Fork.

Tawnya enjoyed basketball, people and being with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Curtis “Pee Wee” Sartin.

She is survived by her mother, Ledema Jean Thompson, and her stepfather, David Thompson, both of Glen Fork; a son, Tyler Lewis Workman of Glen Fork; a brother, Quentin Ray Sartin of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Ila Marie Sartin of Columbus, Ohio; two nephews, four nieces and one great niece.

Service will be 2 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Ark of Safety with the Rev. Herman Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the Glen Fork Community cemetery, Glen Fork.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today, Thursday, April 19, 2007, at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Madeline Florence Spurlock

LEWISBURG — Madeline Florence Spurlock, 85, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, in Friendship Manor, Roanoke, Va., following an extended illness.

Born Sept. 24, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Charles Page Hamrick and Cornelia Florence Chestnut of Pocahontas County.

Mrs. Spurlock and her husband, the late Edwin C. Spurlock, owned and operated Spud’s Bar-B-Que, Inc. as well as Spud’s Drive Inn since 1948. Mrs. Spurlock was a member of Old Stone Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son, Edwin C. Spurlock Jr. and wife, Barbara J., of 28P Anthony Rd., Maxwelton; a daughter, Cathrine L. Royce and husband, Wayne, of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; two brothers, Franklin Hamrick and Bernard B. Hamrick of Lewisburg; two sisters, Virginia Dent and Marilyn Sue Bennett, both of White Sulphur Springs; five grandchildren, Tara L. Mickel of Santa Monica, Calif., Barbara Caroline Farmer of West Palm Beach, Fla., John Robert March of Chicago, Ill., Melanie Catherine Nakaji of San Diego, Calif., Benjamin Wayne Royce of Minneapolis, Minn., and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at McCraw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Dexter Taylor officiating. Burial will follow the service in Rosewood cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral hour. The family will also receive friends at Blackwell’s Restaurant located in the Lewisburg Elk’s Country Club following the burial.

Fred Wilson Thomas Jr.

Fred Wilson Thomas Jr., age 73, of 192 Hoist Road, Beckley, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, following a short illness.

Born at Beckley, May 2, 1933, he was the son of the late Fred W. Thomas Sr. and Rose Irvin Thomas.

Mr. Thomas was retired from the U.S. Military, having served for 27 years in the U.S. Army, retiring with the rank of Warrant Officer 2. He had served in both the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts.

Mr. Thomas was very active in the VFW in Goose Creek, S.C., where he had served as past commander. He was also a member of the American Legion. Mr. Thomas had made his home in Goose Creek, S.C., for most of his life, returning to Beckley for the past eight months. He attended the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church at Glen Morgan.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Fay Thomas; an a brother, Joe Thomas.

Survivors include sons, John Wilson Thomas and wife, Karen, of Daniels and Fred Williams Thomas and wife, Virginia, of Apalachicola, Fla.; brothers, John Franklin Thomas and wife, Arbutus, of Richmond, Va., and James Thomas and wife, Mary Jean, of Marion, Ill.; sisters, Shirley Smith and husband, James, of Louisville, Ky., Sharon Lilly of Glen Morgan, and Debbie Gillian and husband, Clark, of Grandview; grandchildren: Fred William Thomas Jr. and wife, Laura, of Panama City, Fla., Jill Boyce and husband, Daniel, of Morgantown, Erica West and husband, Michael, of Panama City, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Matt Thomas, Zachary Thomas and Isabelle West.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church at Glen Morgan, with the Rev. Grayson C. Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post 3110 Honor Guard.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Beverly Joyce Dockery VanHoye, age 53, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson. Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

MOUNT HOPE — Larence E. Spade died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Edith Mae Sutphin

OAK HILL — Edith Mae Sutphin, 88, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born Feb. 27, 1919, at Sanger, she was the daughter of the late Shirley George and Ida Florence Burgess Burgess.

Mrs. Sutphin was a homemaker. She was a member of Jones Avenue First Church of God and the Golden Agers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Hugh Sutphin; brothers, Vernon S., Leonard C., Robert D. and Paul Burgess; sisters, Bessie G. Treadway Watts, Opal B. Crouch and Marie Garten.

Survivors include a son, R.D. Sutphin of Oak Hill; granddaughters, Christie, Ellen, Trina and Amber; sisters, Irene Faye Stephenson of Hilltop, and Ruth Hypes of Oak Hill; and two “special boys,” Nicholas and Joshua Smith; seven great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with the Revs. Ralph and Tonya Shupe officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Oak Hill.

Opal Pauline Humphrey McCoubrey

MOUNT HOPE — Opal Pauline Humphrey McCoubrey, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill.

Born June 3, 1921, at Pax, she was the daughter of the late Emmett G. and Emma Lafferty Humphrey.

Mrs. McCoubrey was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert McCoubrey; a son, Jerry Allen McCoubrey; seven brothers, Earl, Dove, Harry, Calvin, Claude, Shirley and Reginald Hum-phrey; and three sisters, Hila Boyd, Vivian Trent and Evelyn Morgan.

Survivors include two sons, Mike McCoubrey of Erial, N.J., and Larry Brady of Hillard, Ohio; stepdaughters, Jessie Gazeley of Troy, N.Y., and Marjorie Masten of Victory Mills, N.Y.; a sister, Marie Billups of Pax; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, with the Rev. Tom Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in Pax Community cemetery.

Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
