William Dale Manning

EAST KINGSTON — William Dale Manning, 70, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley, following a short illness.

Born June 26, 1935, at Burnwell, he was the son of the late Tho-mas Clyde Manning Sr. and Esther Pearl Harless Manning.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Manning; and five sisters, Mary Giles, Irene Jones, Nellie Salters, Bonnie Spencer and Maxine Pennington.

Survivors include three brothers, Clyde Manning Jr. of East Kingston, Charles R. Manning of Scarbro and Cecil Charles Manning of Oak Hill; a sister, Leona Arrington of Oak Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Bill Menefee officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Tina Marie Milam

Tina Marie Milam, 39, of Jessup Lane, Beckley, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, after a life-long journey.

Born March 30, 1966, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Norman Stanley “Buck” and Violet Marie Dilly Milam, with whom she made her home.

Tina was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, John Earl Milam Sr.; maternal grandfather, Charles Edward Dilly; and aunts, Orpha Jane Milam and Peggy J. Milam.

Survivors in addition to her parents include a sister, Beverly Milam Lacek and husband, Matt, of Beckley; paternal grandmother, Mae Alderman Milam, formerly of Arnett; maternal grandmother, Violet M. Dilly, formerly of Dry Creek; and two special nephews, Joe and Jacob Lacek of Loraine, Ohio.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Mark Schrade and the Rev. Lee Milam officiating. Burial will follow in Calfee cemetery, Mount Tabor Road, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bob Milam, Lee Milam, Dr. Kevin Milam, Shaun Wood, Sean Lilly and Larry Lacek.

Lilly Madeline Petrey

HINTON — Lilly Madeline Petrey, 86, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Wayne following a long illness.

Born Dec. 20, 1918, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Thad and Mattie Maddy Scarbro.

Mrs. Petrey was a lifelong resident of Hinton. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burl Petrey; a daughter; and four sons.

She is survived by a son, Bobby Petrey and wife, Sue, of Albany, Ky.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Lawrence Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Mountain Church cemetery.

Friends may call 9:30 a.m. until time of the service Friday at the funeral parlors.

John Henry Reed

John Henry Reed, 57, of Midway, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.

Born Feb. 27, 1948, in Welch, he was the son of the late Lacy and Lillian Early Reed.

Mr. Reed was a 1969 graduate of Sophia High School. He honorably served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and he last worked as maintenance supervisor at the Raleigh County Courthouse with 25 years of service. He was of the Christian faith.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Vickie Jones.

Survivors include a brother, Tommy Reed and wife, Sylvia, of Midway; and a niece.

Service will be 3 p.m. Friday at First Church of God, Midway, with the Rev. Rick Walker and the Rev. E.G. “Buzz” Keller officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of the service Friday at the church.

Laura Florence Akers Roach

Laura Florence Akers Roach, 78, of Beaver, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at her home following a long illness.

Born May 5, 1927, at Odd, she was the daughter of the late Ora Arthur Akers and Ora Fink Akers.

Mrs. Roach was a homemaker. She was a member of Bible Wesleyan Church at Crab Orchard.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Worley; sisters, Melva Miller, Katie Pusey and Vera Feazel; and an infant brother.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 40 years, Paul M. Roach; daughter, Jayne Denton of Chicago, Ill.; stepchildren, Paul, Sarah, Cheryl, Donna, Perry and Frances; brothers, Floyd Akers of Virginia Beach, Va., Howard Akers of Alexandria, Va., and David Akers of Providence, R.I.; sisters, Margaret Long of Daniels and Helen Hamilton of North Carolina; numerous grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern West Virginia with special thanks to Dottie and special thanks Bridgett Gray, her CNA.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Rose and Quesenberry Shady Spring Chapel with the Rev. Gary Ikes and the Rev. Troy Bolen officiating.

Friends may call 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25801.

Wesley Dwayne Sargent

Wesley Dwayne Sargent, 38, of Rhodell, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005.

Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 147 Virginia St., Sophia, is serving the family.

Charlotte Broyles Agee Spangler

PETERSTOWN — Charlotte Broyles Agee Spangler, 76, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born Sept. 25, 1929, at Princeton, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. “Bud” and Mabel Crotty Broyles.

Mrs. Spangle was of the Baptist faith, attended Peterstown High School and graduated from Princeton High School. She was a former employee of Celanese Corp. and a beautician.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Spangler, and a grandson, Christopher Jackson.

Survivors include two daughters, Pam Jackson of Peterstown and Mary Davison of Elkhorn, Wis.; a son, Russell Agee of Peterstown; a sister, Peggy Hutchison of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Charles Broyles Jr. of Iowa City, Iowa; grandchildren, Missy Weddle and husband, Randy, Shaun Agee and wife, Kelly, Travis and Adam Jackson, Mollie and Jack Davison; and great-grandchildren, Joshua Weddle and Sydney Ballard.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with the Rev. Tim Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Ballard Church cemetery.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Travis and Adam Jackson, Shaun Agee, Randy Weddle, Wayne Sibold and Philip Weiss.

Vera Augusta Young

PERU, Ind. — Vera Augusta Young, 102, formerly of Hinton, died at 11:27 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at at Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru.

Born Nov. 17, 1903, at Jumping Branch, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Nancy Etta Lilly.

She married Charles A. Young on July 3, 1922, in Beckley. She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church of Hinton and attended Main Street United Methodist Church in Peru.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Young, on March 25, 1971; her parents; four sisters; and four brothers.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Jo Morris and husband, Staten, of Lakeview, Ark.; two sons, Jack O. Young and wife, Pat, of Peru and David L. Young and wife, Kyra, of Lafayette, Ind.; a sister, Rhelda Meadows of Daniels; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Ronald Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral parlors.

Jeremy ‘Jay’ Biggs

MULLENS — Jeremy David “Jay” Biggs, 25, of Mullens, through God’s grace, love and mercy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005.

Jay was born July 21, 1980, in Beckley, the son of Donna Whitt Biggs of Mullens and the late George W. Biggs.

He was a 25-year resident of Mullens, a member of Amigo Missionary Baptist Church and was a coal miner for five years. Jeremy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and ATV riding.

Jay was a member of the last graduating class of Mullens High School, Class of 1998. He was also a member of the single-A state basketball championship team of 1998.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Stephanie Lynn Hanson Thomas.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Donna Whitt Biggs; a brother, Nick Biggs and his wife, LeAnn, of Mullens; a sister, Sheree Thomas and her husband, Jerry Wayne, of Mullens; nephews, Justin Thomas, Andrew Thomas and Brady Biggs; nieces, Kara Thomas, Amanda Thomas, Brooke Thomas and Megan Thomas; a great-niece, Rileigh Mullins; a great-nephew, Charlie Price; maternal grandparents, Shadric and Margaret Whitt; lots of loving aunts, uncles and cousins; and his former wife, Madonna Marsh.

Service will be noon Saturday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with his brother, Nick Biggs, officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service Saturday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Anne Virginia Smith Blevins

FROSTBURG, Md. — Anne Virginia Smith Blevins, 92, formerly of Glen Fork, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Frostburg Village Nursing.

Born June 23, 1913, at Leckie, Anne was the daughter of the late Edward and Elvira Bailey Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everette L. Blevins, and six sisters and three brothers.

Anne was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Anne was a member of Glen Fork Baptist Temple since July 1, 1952. She was a wonderful Christian lady always doing for others and her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith J. Hutcheson and husband, Robert, of Cumberland, Md.; a granddaughter, Sharon Shipe and husband, Steve, of Frostburg; grandson, Scott Anderson and wife, Kathy, of Frostburg; great-nanny to two great grandsons; three great-granddaughters; two step grandchildren, Kevin Hutcheson and wife, Lezlie, of Centerville, Pa., and Karen McCabe and husband, Chris, of Cumberland; three step great-grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Freda Bailey Goodwin; and her church friends.

Anne’s family extends its appreciation to the staff at Frostburg Village Assisted Living and Dr. Sandir for their assistance in assuring Anne had a quality life while a resident. Special acknowledgment and appreciation to the staff in the New Horizon unit for extending their friendship, love and compassion.

Service will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Glen Fork Baptist Temple with Pastor Brian Dean officiating. Interment will be in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Friends will be received one hour before service Tuesday at the church.

Anne loved her church so much that the family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Glen Fork Baptist Temple, Glen Fork, WV
