MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Howard McKinney, 71, a native of Beckley, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Middle Tennessee Veterans cemetery.

Flannie W. Meadows
Flannie W. Meadows, 83, of Pluto Road, Shady Spring, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006.
Born on Dec. 23, 1923, he was the son of the late William and Bessie Goins Meadows.
Mr. Meadows was a lifelong resident of Richmond District, where he was a farmer and a retired coal miner. Mr. Meadows was the Outstanding Young Farmer of The Year
in Raleigh County during his early years. He was a member of the UMWA, and attended the New Salem Baptist Church at Abraham.
Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Ruth Stacy Meadows; two sisters, Evelyn Coleman of Gratz, Pa., and Erdene Shafer of Elkview, W.Va., and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with the Rev. John Wesley Richmond officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Meadows, Wayne Shafer, Blaine “Buck” Shafer, Mark Coleman, Eddie Meadows, Randy Meadows, John Richmond and Lee Bennett.

Mark E. Miller, 69, died Dec. 21, 2006, in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Mr. Miller was born in Beckley, West Virginia and moved to Port St. Lucie in 1990 from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
He was the Founder and Co-Owner of Miller Construction Company.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Miller of Port St. Lucie, FL; children, Cynthia (Christopher) Jones of Orlando, FL, Pamela Asencio of Sunrise, FL, Gary E. Rev. William Leslie Nelson
SETH — Rev. William Leslie Nelson, 85, of Seth, died Dec. 23, 2006, at Charleston General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Logan County, to the late William Cush Nelson and Dolly Beckett Nelson.
William was a World War II Navy veteran as well as a retired coal miner and Church of God pastor. He had pastored Crawley Church of God, Dorothy Church of God, and Rhodell Church of God. He was a current member of the Seth Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry Nelson and Junior Nelson; one sister, Linda Nelson; and two wives, Elizabeth and Audrey Nelson.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Eskins Nelson of Seth; a daughter, Virginia Nelson Perry and husband, Tom, of Matheny; three sons, Roger Dale Nelson of Peytona, Paul Nelson and wife, Nanette, of Racine, and Robert Nelson of Charleston; a sister, Ruth Toney of Huntington; eight brothers, Pat Nelson, Dave Nelson, and Kenneth Nelson of Logan, James Nelson of Summerfield, Ohio, Charles Nelson of Springfield, Ohio, Earl Nelson of Jackson, Ohio, Warnie Nelson of Vine Grove, Ky., and Jimmy Nelson of Bartlett, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Perry of Beckley, Mary Elizabeth Nelson of Racine, and Richard Nelson of NC; and one great-grandchild.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Seth Church of God, with the Pastor Byron Mayberry officiating. Burial will be in the Pineview Cemtery at Orgas. Daniel Boone VFW, Madison will have graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the church.

Nelson Harold ‘Smitty’ Smith
OCEANA — Nelson Harold “Smitty” Smith, departed this life, Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at the age of 74 years, nine months and 26 days at the Bower’s Hospice House in Beckley following a long illness.
Born Feb. 22, 1932, in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Jasper and Eveline Pomeroy Smith.
Harold was a resident of Oceana for the last 15 years. He was a retired steel worker, having worked in Illinois for many years. Harold also served his country in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his dearly beloved wife, JoAnn “Mickey” Egnor Smi-thy; three brothers, Charles O-wen Smith, Estel McGhee Smith and Richard Keith Smith; a sister-in-law, Marine Adkins Smith and a brother-in-law, Brayton “Bud” Hotaling.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Deborah Remsik and her husband, Robert, of Arizona; two brothers, Jasper Robert Smith and his wife, Mary Lee, of Illinois, and Leonard Clinton Smith of Oceana; four sisters, Lucille Pingilley and her husband, Don, of Michigan, Emma Hotaling of New York, Wanda Hoy and her husband, Tom, of Pennsylvania, and Carol Mathison and her husband, Dan, of Vermont; sister-in-law, Joann Smith of Hill Top; three grandchildren, Billy Randall Lambert, Ill., and Jeremiah Lambert of Oceana, and Samantha Jo Remsik of Arizona; several nieces and nephews, and host of other dear family and friends.
A celebration of Harold’s life will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at the Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Ruth Goins officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Susan E. Summerfield
Susan Elizabeth Jane Lee “Sue” Summerfield, 88, of MacArthur, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at CAMC General Division.
Born on May 10, 1918, at Kaymoor, and she was the daughter of the late Claude E. and Dillie Oliver Lee.
Mrs. Summerfield was a member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church. She was a retired bookkeeper for Montgomery Wards in Beckley with 35 years of service.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Summerfield in 1986, and a brother, Harry Lee.
Left to cherish many fond memories are her brother, Claude E. “Bud” Lee of Falls View; two sisters, Frances L. Smith of Melbourne, FL, and Evelyn L. “Boots” Estep of Fayetteville; a niece, Belinda Thomas of Tomball, TX; and a nephew, Claude Lee III of Vienna, W.Va.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at the Fayetteville Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with Pastor Ron George Jr. and the Rev. David Sneed officiating. Interment will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 27, 2006, at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville.

Alvis M. Tolliver
BUD MOUNTAIN — Alvis McDonald Tolliver, 69, of Bud Mountain, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2006, in Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a short illness.
Born March 27, 1937, in Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Calloway and Ada Cozort Tolliver.
Mr. Tolliver attended Mullens Church of God. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and digging root. He loved being with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Jill Raye Tolliver and Fern Tolliver; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a son, Alvis F. Tolliver of Florida; a daughter, Lovealea Horvath and her husband, Kenneth, of Bud Mountain; four stepsons, George Weaver and his wife, Evonne, of Bud Mountain, Curtis Weaver and his wife, Kathy, of Mullens, Randy Weaver and his wife, Patty, of Bud, and D.J. Tolliver of Pineville; two stepdaughters, Barbara Lane and her husband, Mart, of Bud Mountain and Sharon Sims and her husband, Anthony, of South Carolina; three brothers, Oak Tolliver of Pineville, Raymond Tolliver of Kentucky and Dale Tolliver of Illinois; two sisters, Francis Adkins of Keyrock and Sylvia Billings of Turkey Dip; his companion, Mamie Weaver, of Bud Mountain; and four grandchildren.
Service will be 12 noon Thursday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. J.L. Riffe officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Audra V. Waltman
FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – Audra V. Waltman, 93, of Friendswood, Texas, formerly of Beckley, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, in Webster, Texas, following a long illness.
She was born Sept. 3, 1913, at New, W.Va., to Calvin and Nora Richmond.
Mrs. Waltman taught school in Raleigh County for five years and was the secretary to her husband and Sunset Park in West Grove, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Roy Waltman, of West Grove, Pa.; a sister, Beatrice Riffe; and four brothers, Garland, Erskine, Curtis and Calvin (Junior).
Survivors include her son, Melvin Richmond and wife, Tracy; a grandson, Tyson Richmond and wife, Dorenda; great-granddaughter, Maddison; granddaughter, Tarya Chaistain and husband, Jack, all of Friendswood, Texas; stepson, Lawrence Waltman of West Grove, Pa.; her sister, Nadine Dingess of Matthews, N.C.; and her brother, Quinton Richmond and wife, Patricia, of Clearwater Beach, Fla.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with the Rev. R.E. Pedigo and the Rev. F.D. Sexton officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.
