Grace Aldean Stacey

Grace Aldean Stacey, 18-month- old infant daughter of Ellis and Melanie White Stacy of MacArthur, went to Heaven Sunday morning Dec. 24, 2006, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Grace died following a long illness.

Born on June 16, 2005 at Beckley, the daughter of Ellis and Melanie Stacy, she was the beloved sister of Autumn Paige Stacy.

Other survivors include her maternal grandparents, Butch and Judy White of Sophia; paternal grandparents, Howard and Elsie Stacy of Jolo; uncles, Barry White and wife Tiffanie of Beckley, Nick White and wife Anna of Mount Hope, and Junior Stacy and wife Tina of Thomasville, N.C.; aunts, Violet Hensley and husband Shayne of Princewick, Lora White of Sophia, Linda Gross and husband Jeff of Archdale, N.C., and Susan Davis and husband Dale of Jolo; and many wonderful cousins and friends.

A private service for Grace was held at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with Rev. Eddie Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Condolences may be sent to the Stacy family at P.O. Box 586, Sophia, WV 25921.

Arrangements were by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley.

Jefferson Lee Davis

Jefferson Lee Davis, 59, of Beaver, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division.

Born Dec. 13, 1946, at Summerlee, he was the son of the late John Toney and Edna Marie Sutphin Davis.

Jeff was currently a deputy director for the West Virginia Public Service Commission, Weight Enforcement.

He retired from the West Virginia State Police with the rank of major, having been with the department from May 1968 to August 1994. Maj. Davis graduated from the 18th Cadet Class, West Virginia State Police Academy, in 1968.

He served as a trooper at the South Charleston and Whitesville detachments and as an undercover officer at Beckley. He was promoted to sergeant in 1981 and served as detachment commander at Whitesville.

Following his promotion to first sergeant in 1988, he was with the West Virginia Turnpike at Beckley and then was promoted to captain in charge of Company E, now Troop 7, Headquarters, in 1991. He was promoted to Major OIC-Field Operations in 1992 where he served until his retirement.

He was a graduate of Collins High School, Oak Hill, and a 1978 graduate of West Virginia State College with a degree in criminal justice.

A Vietnam veteran, he served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Beckley Masonic Lodge 95, A.F.&A.M., and York Rites Chapter 38, and was an avid golfer. Two brothers, John Dale Davis and Jack Davis, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Ann Mullins Davis; two sons, Jeff Lee Davis and wife, Lori, of Beaver and Jerry Lee Davis of Grandview; three brothers, Jimmy Davis and wife, Emma, of Oak Hill, Jerry Wayne Davis of Texas and Joel Davis of Summerlee; and his loving grandson, Cass Lee Davis.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with cremation to follow.

Tim Elliott

Tim Elliott, 40, of Cool Ridge, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 13, 1965, he was the son of Dallas Ray Elliott of Eccles and Lois Jean Hines Elliott of Cool Ridge.

Mr. Elliott was a graduate of Shady Spring High School, was a member of Perry Memorial United Methodist Church and an employee at Advance Auto Parts. Tim also had served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ralph Hines.

Those left to cherish his loving memory include his parents; a sister, Karen Brown of Bradenton, Fla.; and his maternal grandmother, Dorothy “Dorty” Hines of Cool Ridge.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Susan Rector officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Visitation will be two hours before service today at the funeral home.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, is serving the family.

Gordon Braxton Gates II

ANSTED — Gordon Braxton Gates II, 42, of Ansted, passed away, Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Plateau Medical Center following a short illness.

Born Sept. 7, 1963, in Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late Joseph and Sylvia Gladden Gates. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Winston Gates.

Gordon was a disabled roofer and a member of Lovers Leap Baptist Church of Ansted.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Cole Gates; a daughter, Heather Ann Gates of Richmond; two sons, Gordon Braxton Gates III and Nicholas Lee Gates, both of Ansted; two sisters, Karen Shelton of Richmond and Wanda Elder of Billings, Mont.; and four brothers, Harold Wilson Gates, Eddie Gates, Clayton Gates and Danny Gates, all of Richmond.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Ansted, with Pastor Stephen Fridenmaker officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

David Lee Johnson

David Lee Johnson, 63, of Skelton, was dead on arrival Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Born Aug. 6, 1942, at Fireco, he was the son of Hazel Roark Johnson of Skelton and the late Nick Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a retired mechanic for the state Department of Highways. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having received the Good Conduct Medal and the Marksman Medal.

He lived in Skelton most of his life. He was always a “cowboy” at heart.

He was preceded in death by grandchildren, December and Jessica.

Survivors besides his mother include sons, David Johnson and companion, Sherri, of Maple Fork and Christopher Johnson of Maple Fork; grandchildren, Justin, Jesse and Ezra; brothers, Danny Johnson of Prosperity and Bobby Johnson and wife, Bootie, of Grandview; sister, Betty Settle and husband, Mike, of Fayetteville; and nephews, Kenneth and Mark Lewis, Danny, Gary, Bobby and Todd Johnson.

Graveside rites and burial will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with the Rev. Frankie Lyons officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Lewis, Mark Lewis, Danny Johnson, Gary Johnson, John Paul Halliwell and Sam Adkins.

Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley.

Mary Virginia Keel

OAK HILL — Mary Virginia Keel, 82, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Arrangements by High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main St., Oak Hill.

Tom Lambert

FANROCK — Tom Lambert, 92, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville, is serving the Lambert family.

Phyllis C. Lester

KEGLEY — Phyllis C. Lester, 55, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at her residence following a long illness.

Born Jan. 10, 1950, in Knoxville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Trula Hurst Hammock.

Phyllis was a homemaker and a 34-year resident of Mercer County.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Hammock, and a half brother, Martin Hammock.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.

Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Tina Marie Wall and her husband, Ri-chard, of Matoaka; three sons, Gary Owen Lester and his wife, Amy, of Mullens, Tyree Quentin Lester III and his wife, Amanda, of Oak Hill and Billy Christopher Norris and his wife, Sherrie, of Kegley; two sisters, Karen Suzett Buckner of Matoaka and Patsy Collins and her husband, Carl, of Knoxville, Tenn.; and 13 grandchildren, one of whom made his home with his grandmother, Daniel Lester.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Rev. Jimmy Weis officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Ridge cemetery, Bud Mountain.

Friends may call noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Dallas Mills

BRENTON — Dallas Mills, 60, departed this life Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at his residence following a sudden illness.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Lockie Lou (Thornton) Parks

Lockie Lou (Thornton) Parks, 75, of Cool Ridge, passed away at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at her home.

Born Aug. 19, 1930, in Hiawatha, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Nettie Robertson Thornton.

Lockie enjoyed flowers, cooking and camping and loved her family. She was a member of Ghent Church of God.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Billy Sheffie Jr. and William Gary Parks; and three brothers, Lonzo Thornton, Donald Thornton and Junior Thornton.

Those left to cherish her loving memory include her husband, Billie Parks; two daughters, Sherry Grim and husband, Charlie, of Delaware and Dianne Sturgill and husband, John, of Midway; four sons, Lonnie “Peanut” Parks and wife, Candi, of Rock Falls, Ill., David Allen Parks and wife, Tonia, of Lester, Michael Parks of Coal City and Tommy Parks of Jumping Branch; a sister, Frances Sisk of Kegley; two brothers, Walter Thornton of Kegley and Gene Thornton of Kegley; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with the Rev. Phillip Farrington officiating, assisted by Pastor Otis Clyburn. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Phil Parks, Aaron Parks, B.J. Parks, Pete Grim, Russ Grim and Jeff Grim.

Honorary pallbearers include Bo Parks, Adam Parks, Brent Parks and Mike Sturgill.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, is serving the family.

Margaret H. ‘Peg’ Pickering

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Margaret Hunter “Peg” Pickering, 81, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2006.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg.
