Paula L. Price
Paula L. Price, 54, of Beckley, formerly of Milton, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a long illness.
Born Jan. 8, 1952, she was the daughter of H.H. “Dutch” Meador and Patricia Ri-chards Meador of Daniels.
Paula was a 1969 graduate of Shady Spring High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Milton Presbyterian Church and had made Milton her home from 1979 until 1992. She had returned to Beckley to make her home since 1992. She had received an associate’s degree in business from Huntington Junior College of Business. She was an advocate for handicapped individuals and enjoyed cooking and was an avid reader.
Survivors besides her parents include her daughters, Erica L. Price and Erin V. Price, both of Milton; a grandson, Hunter Price of Milton; two sisters, Debbie Shuck and husband, Daniel, of Daniels and Karen Grantham and husband, Les, of Fort Myers, Fla.; many close friends at Heartland of Beckley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Daniels Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Jack Thomas officiating.
Friends and family may gather at the church 30 minutes before service.

SCARBRO — Virginia Johnson Price, 92, of Scarbro, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley.
Born April 21, 1913, at Kenova, she was the daughter of the late James R. Johnson and Alma Brumfield Johnson Watts.
Virginia retired after 28 years as office secretary for Dr. Joe N. Jarrett.
She was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, Oak Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Claggett Price Sr.; a son, James Thomas Moore Sr.; and a grandson, James Thomas Moore Jr.
Survivors include two sons, Lewis M. Price of Scarbro and William Claggett Price Jr. of Oak Hill; four grandchildren, Julie Moore, William Claggett “Willie” Price III, Meribeth Price and Linda Price; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Moore and Katie Price.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Diarmuid O’Hara officiating.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mary S. Harris
RAINELLE — Mary S. Harris, 94, of Rainelle, passed away Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at her home following a long illness.
Born May 2, 1911, at Shawver, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo E. and Julemma Legg Shawver.
Mrs. Harris was a former teacher and beautician and a member of Rainelle Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Harris.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Harris of Rainelle; her son, William David Harris and wife, Margarett, of Boerne, Texas; a special niece, Betty Fellow of Ormond, Fla.; three grandsons, Timothy, Michael and Patrick Harris; a granddaughter, Valerie Kirves; and nine great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rainelle Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with speaker Jim Copland officiating.
There is no visitation. The body was cremated.

Gladys Watkins Kesler
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Gladys Watkins Kesler, 93, formerly of Mount Hope, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at Ormond In The Pines Care and Rehab Center in Ormond Beach.
Born Jan. 14, 1912, at Dorothy, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Elva Jane Walton Watkins.
Mrs. Kesler was a homemaker.
Gladys was the only surviving charter member of Wesleyan Church at Mount Hope, where she was a longtime board member, song leader and Sunday school teacher. She had been a resident of Ormond Beach since 2003.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Kesler, who passed away on July 9, 1972. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having had three brothers, Ambrose, Cecil and Howard Watkins, and four sisters, Daisy Beatrice Webberburn, Mable F. Smith, Bessie Oatridge and Opal Oatridge, precede her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Withrow and Carol Murdock, both of Ormond Beach; a son, Carl “C.E.” Kesler of Troutville, Va.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Hope Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Randall Weatherall officiating. Burial will follow in High lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
Friends may call noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Mabel Lilly Lazio
HILLDALE — Mabel Lilly Lazio, 102, of Hilldale, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hilldale.
Born Feb. 16, 1903, in Summers County, she was the daughter of the late Congressman Thomas Jefferson and Roxy Lilly Lilly.
She was the former wife of C&O Engineer Cecil Lilly of Hinton with whom she had four children, Tommy and Betty, who preceded her in death, and Edward Lilly and wife, Mary, of Nimitz and Patty Wilson of Hinton who survive her.
Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Judson, Paul, Sampson and Warren; and four sisters, Maude, Daisy, Zella and Lillie.
Besides Patty Wilson and Edward Lilly, she is survived by eight grandchildren, Dr. Edward Lilly, Alan Lilly, Steven Lilly, Charlotte Robertson, Michael Lilly, Peggy Frese and Martin and Robert Wilson; 13 great-grandchildren, Edward Lilly, Tiffany Adkins, Michelle Humphries, Dewitt Hurst, Jennifer Lewis, Alexa, and Danielle Wilson, Brandi and Bo Wilson, D.K. and Matthew Robertson and Tommy and Joey Lilly; and eight great-great-grandchildren, Christian and Kylie Lilly, Melody and Bryce Adkins, Brian, Jimmy and Allison Hurst and Lilly Beth Lewis.
Mrs. Lazio lived the early part of her life as a resident and school teacher in Summers County. She moved to Florida in the 1950s and became a real estate investor and cattle rancher. She was a Baptist and attended church regularly. One of her favorite pastimes was dancing. It was at one of these dances that she met Joseph Lazio, whom she married. She always had a positive attitude toward life and walked five miles a day until she injured her back at the age of 96. At her husband’s passing three years later she again became a resident of Summers County, where she remained until her death on Monday. She was an avid supporter of the Lilly Family Reunion Association.
Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastors Jeff Canterbury and Bill Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Burial Park, Hinton.
Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral parlors.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Larry Ellison Mayhew
RUSSELLVILLE — Larry Ellison Mayhew, 66, of Russellville, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, following a long illness.
Born Dec. 23, 1938, in Delaware, Ohio, he was a son of the late John David and Elva Merle Pauley Mayhew.
Mr. Mayhew served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and retired as a senior chief machinist mate. He was also a member of Brackens Creek United Methodist Church of Russellville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carey Neil Mayhew.
Survivors include his wife, Tryphena Burr Mayhew; three sons, David Ryland Mayhew of Mount Lookout, Larry Dean Mayhew of Grottoes, Va., and Donald Ray Mayhew of Asbury; two sisters, Linda Stagner of Victoria, Texas, and Debbie Fuller of Conroe, Texas; six brothers, David Lee Mayhew of Paintsville, Ky., George Harrison Mayhew of Delbarton, John Dee Mayhew of Onalaska, Texas, James Pack of Richmond, Ky., Homer Lane Mayhew of Ragland and Dexter Dean Mayhew of Smith Mountain Lake, Va.; two grandchildren, Alicia Faith Elias of Six Mile, S.C., and Erica Huffman of Fort Defiance, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Huffman and Meagan Huffman.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Mike Loudermilk officiating. Burial will follow in cemetery Hill, Russellville, with military graveside honors being conducted.

Junior Braxton Meadows
GLEN ROGERS — Junior Braxton Meadows departed this life Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Plateau Medical Center at the age of 77 years following a long illness.
Born Feb. 15, 1928, at Jolo, he was the son of the late Herbert Braxton and Martha Jane Green Meadows.
Mr. Meadows worked as a welder for Mountaineer Mining at Rockview, was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Betty Ann Tolliver Meadows; a son, Braxton Cordor Meadows and his wife, Judy, of Hurley, Va.; five daughters, Vada Taylor of Oceana, Sadie Lupton of Bridgeton, N.J., Cynthia Lyons and her husband, Larry, of Jesse, Mary Jane Holstead and her husband, Anthony, of Mount Nebo and JoyAnn Cheleska and her husband, Wayne, of North Augusta, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Junior’s life will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with Pastor John Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
The family will receive friends 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Wesley was born March 15, 1967, at Mullens, the son of the late Clifford Sargent and Faye Sargent of Rhodell.
Wesley attended Rhodell Church of God, was a graduate of Independence High School and was a member of the Sophia Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his father, Wesley was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Viola Sargent; and maternal grandparents, Willard and Mildred Lester.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving mother, Faye Sargent of Rhodell; four brothers, Allen Sargent and wife, Deanna, of Glen Morgan, Eugene Sargent and wife, Sheila, of Rhodell, Tracy Sargent and wife, Carla, of Helen and Ralph Sargent and companion, Carmella Farruggia, of Rhodell; nieces and nephews, Christina, Alicia, Cecil, Michael, Norman, Bill and Manny; and many friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 147 Virginia St., Sophia, with the Rev. Gary Eskins officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
