Mishie Cox Flanagan

CROWN POINT, Ind. — Mishie Cox Flanagan (nee Cochran), age 91, of Crown Point, Ind., formerly of Rupert, passed away Friday, June 22, 2007, at Colonial Nursing Home in Crown Point, Ind.

Mrs. Flanagan was a former member of the Clear Creek Baptist Church in Rupert.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jennings Cox; and her second husband, Ray Flanagan.

Survivors include five children, Shirlene Burke and husband, Gerald, of Crown Point, Ind., Martha Lee Gruber and husband, Jerry, of Mansfield, Ohio, William Flanagan and wife, Barbara, of West Virginia, Fedora Celami of Maryland, and Jo Rae Hvezdos of Florida; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and two dear nieces, Carol Russell and Helen Huddelston.

Geisen Funeral Home of Crown Point, Ind., is in charge of arrangements. For information please call 219-663-2500.

A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Memorial Mausoleum in Clintonville, with Rev. Houston Boothe officiating.

James Harrison Fox

MAPLEWOOD — James Harrison Fox, 71, died Friday, June 22, 2007, from injuries incurred when a loaded coal truck lost control and rolled on top of Mr. Fox’s vehicle. Also killed in the traffic accident was his dog, Sunny. James had worked coal his entire career without incident. In a bizarre twist of fate, coal finally claimed him.

Born March 21, 1936, in Red Springs, W.Va., James was the son of the late Fred Harrison Fox and Bessie Mae Goddard Fox.

James was a loving husband, stepfather, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend to all who knew him, retired coal miner, a good Samaritan, and an Appalachian who valued his family, home, and the West Virginia hills. James will be missed by many and remembered by all whose life he touched with his warm smile and kind heart.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Janet Louise Migner Lewis Fox; his mother and father; and his niece, Wilma Armstrong.

Survivors include his four stepdaughters, Loretta L. Lewis-Wells and husband, Thomas “Eddie” Wells of Parkersburg, Dianne L. Milam and husband, Danny Milam of Rainelle, Donna G. McClung of Clintonville, and Karen L. Lewis of Corliss; his two sisters, Nona Kincaid of Danese and Hattie Walker of Danese; two brothers-in-law, Herschel Migner and wife, M. Clara Lewis Migner, of Danese and Arnold L. “Ronnie” Migner of Ansted; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nieces, Brenda Lilly of Layland and Diana Walker of Danese; three nephews, Alfred Kincaid of Beckley, Richard Kincaid of Danese and Denny Walker of Danese; and special friend, Shirley McKinney of Maple Fork.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Tincher officiating. Burial will follow in the Goddard cemetery, Red Springs-Meadow Bridge.

Pallbearers include Marvin Mullins, Randy Crookshanks, Thomas Eddie Wells, Richard Kincaid, Alfred Kincaid, and William Lilly, Jr.

The family will receive visitors at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, between the hours of 6 until 8 p.m. today.

Jack Garretson

Jack Garretson, age 61, of Coal City, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, following a short illness.

Born on Nov. 23, 1945, at Besoco, he was the son of the late George Garretson and Laura Alice Lilly Garretson.

Mr. Garretson was a retired coal miner at Itmann, and was a member of the UMWA.

He was of the Baptist faith, lived at Coal City for the past year, having lived most of his life in Wyoming County.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Tom Garretson; and a sister, JoAnn McClung.

Surviving are his children, Specialist Jack Garretson, Jr., stationed at Fort Carson, Colo., Capt. Lynda Garretson, and husband SFC Gilbert Morales of San Antonio, Texas, Sandy Garretson of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kim Saldana and husband Chris of Corpus Christi, Texas, Ashley Garretson of Coal City, Christy Walls of Pineville, Casy and Cary Garretson of Mead; nine grandchildren, Jamie, Santana, Amber, Noah, Josh, Jackie, Bailey, Cadence, and Cheyenne; two great-grandchildren, Malachi and Jordan; three brothers, Nate Garretson and wife Helen of Coal City, Sam Garretson of Coal City, and twin brother, Jim Garretson and wife Joyce of Meadow Bridge; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel, with Pastor Lowell Black officiating. Burial will follow at Hannah Lilly cemetery at Odd.

Friends may call from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Katheryn Ruff Martz

WINDSOR, S.C. — Katheryn Ruff Martz, 63, of Windsor, S.C., formerly of Kilsyth, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Aiken Regional Medical Center in Aiken, S.C.

Leona Milam Parrish

On Friday, June 22, 2007, Leona Milam Parrish of Russell Street passed away in a Beckley care center following a long illness. She was 80 years of age.

Born Leona Catherine Milam on Sept. 20, 1926, at Tolleytown, she was the 12th of 13 children born to the late James and Nancy Milam. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Thetta Covey, Elizabeth Webb and Sylvia Wood; and brothers: Lacy, Kelly, Harry, Johnny, Arlie, Billy and Jimmy Milam.

Leona spent her childhood at Tolleytown. She was a 1944 graduate of Trap Hill High School. She lived in South Mullens for many years and had been a resident of Russell Street since 1965. A homemaker, she was a member of the Open Door Church at Shady Spring. In leisure time, she enjoyed bowling and had been a member of several leagues.

In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Parrish.

Leona was the beloved Mother of Gary Parrish and his wife Becky and Clyde (Pete) Parrish II all of Beckley; Marvin (Merve) Parrish of Houston, Texas, and Dianna Jackson of Savannah, Ga.; the dear grandmother of Selena Parrish of Adairsville, Ga.; Kris Parrish of Beckley and Paige McQuillan of Daniels; the fond sister of Ruby Holt of Maple Meadow and Archie Milam of Crab Orchard; a large extended family also survives. Leona’s children would like to acknowledge the staff of Pine Crest Hospital for the wonderful care they gave both their parents during their long illnesses and Marcia Evans who so faithfully visited them over the years.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. George Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.

Ada Brown Reedy

DAVIN — Ada Brown Reedy, 94, of Davin, died June 23, 2007.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Claypool United Methodist Church at Davin. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.

Paul Stewart

PINEVILLE — Paul Stewart, 80, of Pineville, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2007, following a long illness.

Kathleen S. Timberlake

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Kathleen S. Timberlake, 92, of Pittsburgh, Pa., formerly of Hinton, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, in Pittsburgh, following a long illness.

Born March 14, 1915, in Hinton, she was the daughter of Dr. Calvin H. and Madge Nickell Skaggs.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hinton where she was a member of the church choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Timberlake, in 1991; and by two brothers, Calvin and Cary Skaggs.

She is survived by two sons, A. Gerald Timberlake and wife Jan of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Robert Michael Timberlake of Manassas, Va.; and two grandchildren, Lisa Ann and David A. Timberlake.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Hinton with Revs. Stewart McMurray and Barbara Romfo officiating. Burial will be in the Hilltop cemetery in Hinton.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday.

Raymond E. Wills

Raymond E. Wills, 63, of Tug Creek Mountain, Hinton, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, in the Summers County ARH following an apparent heart attack at his home.

Born Sept. 14, 1943, at Hinton he was a son of the late Roy R. “Jack” and Vada J. Gill Wills.

Employee of the Summers County Board of Education with 15 years of service serving as custodian at Talcott Elementary School and at Summers County Council on Aging. Raymond was a pleasure to all who knew him and had touched many lives during his life.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by one brother, Russell R. Wills.

Survived by Lola Judy Lilly, his loving companion of 44 years; two brothers, Teddy R. Wills and wife Shirley of Tug Creek and Roger L. Wills and companion Carrie of Forest Hill; six sisters, Janice Harmon of Peterstown, Virginia Harvey of Tug Creek, Shirley Bowling and husband John K. of Madams Creek, Cassie Chewning and husband Darrell of Tug Creek, Angie Crewey and husband Ray of Pipestem and Anita Cox and husband Cecil of Tug Creek; one special grandson, Ryan Martin and wife Wendy of Tug Creek. Extended family members are Wayne Judy and wife Margie of Sand Knob, Royce Martin and husband David of Tug Creek, Tammy Dodson and husband Jeff of Jumping Branch, Christy Pack and husband Chris of Pine Hill and Shandi Judy of Princeton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Mike Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in the Wills Family cemetery at Tug Creek.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral parlors.

Raymond E. Wills

HINTON — Raymond E. Wills, 63, of Tug Creek Mountain, Hinton, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Summers County ARH following an apparent heart attack at his home.

Bobby Calfee Jr.

Hershel Robert “Bobby” Calfee, Jr., 68, of Beckley, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, in a Beckley care center, following a long illness.

Born on April 24, 1937, in Raleigh County, he was the son of the late Hershel R. Calfee and Ruth Waddell Calfee Ketchum.

Bobby spent his childhood in Raleigh County and was a 1955 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He was an Air Force veteran and while serving in the military he received the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the Beckley Hunting and Fishing Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Ann McDaniel, on May 29, 1996.

Survivors include his stepmother, Maxine Calfee Lilly of Beckley; three sisters, Janet Warden and her husband, Homer, and JoAnn Stanton and her husband, David, all of Beckley, and Julia Robinson of Lebanon, Tenn.; an aunt, Lorena Stanley of Stanaford; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Melton Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Randy Smithson officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park cemetery, Beckley.

Friends may call Tuesday one hour prior to service.

Members of the Hunting and Fishing Club will serve as pallbearers.

Wilma Hollifield Campbell

RONCEVERTE — Wilma Hollifield Campbell, 97, of Ronceverte, formerly of Richwood and St. Petersburg, Fla., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, in Brier Nursing Home, Ronceverte, after a long illness.

Laura Henry

Mrs. Laura Henry of 156 Ridgecrest Avenue died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, in Raleigh General Hospital.
