Irene Garcia Gallaher

Irene Garcia Gallaher, 93, of Beckley, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007.

She was born Feb. 2, 1913, in Bland County, Va., the daughter of the late William and Naomi Stowers Fanning.

Mrs. Gallaher attended schools in Wyoming County. She was a homemaker and employed at the D.H. Warren Oil Plant in Beckley in the 1960s and ’70s. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Beckley.

Irene was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a caring housemother to several international students while they were attending Mountain State University.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Juventino (Joe) Garcia, in 1949; her second husband, Stoddart Gallaher, in 1998; a daughter, Lenore Garcia; brothers, Elwyn, Aubrey, Earl and Sidney Fanning; sisters, Blanche Wesley, Maude Streho and Daisy Foster; and two stepsons, Jim and Gary Gallaher.

She will be sadly missed by sons, Darrell Garcia and Dixie of Beckley and Larry Garcia and Debbie of Beckley; a daughter, Carole Warren George and Larry of Daniels; stepsons, Richard Gallaher and Lucy of Asheville, N.C., Ted Gallaher and Johnette of Ocala, Fla., David Gallaher and Cheryl of Grandview, Mike Gallaher and Vicki of Clintonville and Tom Gallaher and Betty of Grandview; stepdaughters-in-law, Jean Gallaher of Oxnard, Calif., and Lois Gallaher of Elon, N.C.; grandchildren, Randy Garcia and Ronna, Dannette Slipkovich, Daniel Warren and Shiela, Lynn Warren, Chris Hill, Joe Garcia, Miranda Garcia and Jose Garcia; several stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of special friends; and her devoted care givers through the years, Betty LaBorde, Anna Baginski, Ashiyana Regmi, Bushra Mahmood, Vickie Halstead and Betty Taylor.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Roger Pauley, Pastor Paul Blizard and Father Samuel Haddad officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley.

Friends may call 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be stepsons Richard, David and Mike Gallaher and stepgrandsons Keith and Kevin Gallaher.

Leona H. Gilmore

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, Leona H. Gilmore of Beckley, formerly of Sophia and McAlpin, died in a Beckley care center following a long illness. She was in her 95th year.

Born Leona Harriet McGhee on May 25, 1911, in Mincar, Fayette County, she was the second of nine children born to the late Joe and Hallie Ann Ellis McGhee.

Mrs. Gilmore was a member of United Methodist Temple. She was also a member of the Raleigh County Historical Society, Women of the Moose, the West Virginia Federation of the Blind and AARP.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Gilmore, in 1966; four brothers: Frank, Hubert, Joe and William McGhee; and three sisters, Lena Marczilla, Erma Sammons and Ella Likins.

She was the dear sister of Margaret Midkiff of Rupert. Several nephews and nieces also survive.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Tommy Waddell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service today.

Orville Jackson Graham Sr.

Orville Jackson Graham Sr., 76, of Helen, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Beckley VA Medical Center following a long illness.

Born April 7, 1930, at Herndon, he was the son of the late Albert Jackson and Rebecca (Graham) Graham.

Mr. Graham was a former coal miner, retiring from Eastern Associated Coal Corp. at Herndon with 20-plus yeas of service. He was a member of the UMWA and Local Union No. 9781 at Herndon.

Mr. Graham was a member of the Mullens Moose Lodge and Spruce Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Basin, and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Camp Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.

In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting and had a special love for his farm and animals.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 51 years, Joyce Christian Graham; four daughters, Linda Shrewsbury and her husband, Russell, of Norfolk, Va., Vickie Whitt and her husband, Marcus, of Itmann, Alice Davidson and her husband, Billy, of Amigo and Nancy King and her husband, Kyle, of Beckley; two sons, Albert Graham and his wife, Debbie, of Hammonton, N.J., and Orville J. Graham Jr. and his wife, Wendy, of Crab Orchard; four sisters, Hazel Harmon of Basin, Merele McKinney of Basin, Ina Lane of Barkers Ridge and Ethel Lusk and her husband, Frank, of Basin; a brother, Derell Ray Graham and his wife, Layla, of Basin; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Spruce Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Basin, with the Rev. Keith Reed and Brother Andrew Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens, and one hour before service at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Military graveside services will be conducted by VFW Post 3110 of Oak Hill and American Legion Post 149 of Fayetteville.

Bertha Mae Hood

PRINCETON — Bertha Mae Hood, 70, of Princeton Health Care Center, formerly of 203 Pearis St., Princeton, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at her residence.

Born Feb. 13, 1927, at War, she was the daughter of the late Wallace and Alice Lee Hankins Fletcher.

Mrs. Hood was a member of Meadow Bridge Freewill Baptist Church and attended Ashworth Baptist Church, Athens Road, Princeton. She had been a resident of Princeton since 1980, moving here from Beckley.

In addition to her parents, two sisters, Helen Cleary and Alice June Buchannon, and three brothers, Robert Fletcher, John Fletcher and Jim Fletcher, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, James Madison Hood; two daughters, Jimmie Lee Webb and Freda Workman and husband, Charlie, all of Princeton; four grandchildren, Lawrence Paul Webb III, Sheila Marie Lambert and husband, Dean, Charles Donald Workman and James Workman; a great-granddaughter, Haylee Nicole Lambert; and a sister, Lucy McNeely of Westfield, Ohio.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home, Princeton, with Pastor Larry Bailey and Pastor Wallace Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Macie H. Weeks Legg

OAK HILL — Macie H. Weeks Legg, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at her home.

Born Aug. 2, 1927, at Maplewood, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Amy Edith Fox Weeks.

Mr. Legg attended Bradley Freewill Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by two half brothers, George Weeks and Jennings Weeks, and a half sister, Lois Summers.

Survivors include a son, Philip Eugene Legg and his companion, Alicia Cantley, of Oak Hill; two sisters, Doris Beard of Daytona, Fla., and Virginia “Ginny” Motko of Ellington, Fla.; two grandchildren, Steven Michael Legg of Carlisle and Karen Rena Law of Medina, Ohio; and a great-grandson, Michael Crites of Oak Hill.

Graveside rites and committal service will be noon Saturday, Jan. 13, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with the Rev. Daniel Legg officiating. Burial will follow.

Friends may call 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill.

James Oris Rogers

AMHERSTDALE — James Oris Rogers, 63, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Bruno Freewill Baptist Church. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Alan W. Spessard

OAK HILL — Alan W. Spessard, 53, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill. Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Earl Junior Wills

WARRENTON, Va. — Earl Junior Wills, 75, formerly of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Va., following a long illness.

Born May 4, 1931, at Hinton, he was the son of the late Hubert H. and Rosalie Hill Wills.

Mr. Wills was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was retired from General Motors in Martinsburg.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Decredia I. Cales Wills; two sons, David L. Wills and wife, Shelia, of Virginia and Steven E. Wills of West Virginia; a daughter, Rhonda E. Wills of Virginia; five grandchildren, Christopher M. Wills of Virginia, Steven E. Wills Jr. of West Virginia, Somer R. Wills of West Virginia, Nicholas H. Long of Virginia and Derek D. Long of Virginia; a great-grandchild, Cameron M. Wills; three brothers, Bobby J. Wills and wife, Juanita, of Columbus, Ohio, and Donald E. Wills and wife, Drema, and Raymond E. Wills, all of Reedsville, N.C.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with the Rev. Olen Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Cales Family cemetery, Clayton.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral parlors.

Louis Angel Velasquez

Louis Angel Velasquez, 69, of Crab Orchard, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2006.

Born Nov. 22, 1937, in St. Croy, Virgin Islands, he was the son of the late Gumercindo Velasquez and Salustiana Maldonado.

Louis enjoyed traveling, lawn maintenance, pets and was very sociable.

He was a retired nuclear medicine technician at the VA hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Tomasa Massey Whitehead.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patreva; brothers, Pasqual Romero, David and Daniel Velasquez, all of the Virgin Islands; sisters, Tabita Phangyou, Bitin Gomez of the Virgin Islands, Sarita Roberts of Norwich, Conn., Ruth Robles of Hinesville, Ga., Maria Hearndon of Ironstation, N.C., and Juinita Johnson of North Charleston, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews and in-laws whom he loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Salvation Army in his memory or the Building Fund at Crab Orchard Baptist Church.

Services entrusted to Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.

Earl Junior Wills

WARRENTON, Va. — Earl Junior Wills, 75, formerly of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Va., following a long illness.

Ann Gravley

Mary “Ann” Gravley, born Oct. 19, 1937, at Man, died at 12:50 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital of a heart attack. She went to meet her reward surrounded by her loving husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many loving friends and relatives.

She was a homemaker and was the owner of Gravley’s Greenhouse for many years. She was an active member of Spoken Word Tabernacle at Beaver for the last 41 years. She loved to garden, sew, quilt and raise beautiful flowers. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her father, William “Arthur” Lehman; a sister, Linda Sue Lehman; and a great-grandson, Andrew Mark Gravley.

She is survived by her mother, Blanche Lehman, of Beckley; her husband of 50 years, Charles “Bert” Gravley of Old Eccles Road; three children, Patricia Gravley, William “Bill” Gravley and David “Bert” Gravley and his wife, Lisa, all of Beckley; nine grandchildren, Michael Gravley and his wife, Charissa, of Johnson City, Tenn., Celestial Wiggins and her husband, Sean, of Johnson City, Daniel Gravley and his wife, Joanna, of Daniels, Matthew Gravley of Beckley, Amanda Gravley of Ripley and Kristin, Kayla, Emily and Rachael Gravley, all of Beckley; two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Kate Gravley of Johnson City; five brothers, Gene Lehman and his wife, Janet, of Shady Spring, Orville Lehman and his wife, Nelda, of Beckley, Jerry Lehman of Terre Haute, Ind., Douglas Lehman and his wife, Rita, of Hollywood, Ala., and Kenny Lehman and his wife, Candi, of Durbin; five sisters, Audra Mastroppolito of Sophia, Virginia Lilly and her husband, Charles, of Peoples, Ohio, Evonne Stanley of Beckley, Kathy Seaman and her husband, Chester, of Charleston, S.C., and Nancy Stanley and her husband, Warner, of Prosperity; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 24, at Spoken Word Tabernacle, Scott Ridge Road, Beaver, with the Rev. Roy Shrewsbury officiating. Burial will follow in Canaday cemetery, Glen View.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the tabernacle.

Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.
