Everette H. Amick

LEIVASY — Everette Harley Amick, 83, passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a long illness.

Born Dec. 26, 1921, at Leivasy, he was the son of the late Robert Fulton and Elva McCutcheon Amick.

Mr. Amick was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church of Leivasy, where he served as deacon, trustee and treasurer. He was also a member of Midland Trail Masonic Lodge No. 166, Lewisburg Chapter No. 108 Eastern Star, a Boy Scout leader at Leivasy and a U.S. Army World War II veteran.

Mr. Amick was a member of the UMWA and was a coal miner for 43 1/2 years.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Luva Ruckman; and three brothers, Robert, Ray and Homer Amick.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty Lucille Cowger Amick; two daughters, Katherine Fields and husband, Rolling, of Charlottesville, Va., and Barbara Willis and husband, James, of Rainelle; three sisters, Marie Ball of Christiansburg, Va., Beulah Pratt of Summersville and Ruth Ann Ballard and husband, Ernie, of Palm Bay, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Fields and wife, Roxanne, Krista Willis and Jeremy Willis; and two great-grandchildren, Kylee and Regan Fields.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at New Prospect Baptist Church, Leivasy, with the Revs. Timothy McClung and Clay O’Dell officiating. Entombment will follow in Wallace Memorial Mausoleum, Clintonville.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, and one hour before service Friday at the church.

Russell D. Bright

Russell D. Bright, 64, of Beckley, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.

Ralph Monroe Brown

ALDERSON — Ralph Monroe Brown, 65, passed away early Tuesday morning, Oct. 11, 2005, at Autumn Way Inc. Personal Care Home, Rupert, after a short illness.

Born March 28, 1940, in Blue Sulphur Springs, he was the son of the late Roy M. and Violet M. Jones Brown.

Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of Blue Sulphur Springs, a member of River of Life Church of God, Alderson, and was a timbercutter for West VACO.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Jordon of Pageland, S.C.; three sons, Jimmy Brown of Alderson, Ronald Brown of Pageland and David Brown of Blue Sulphur Springs; three sisters, Teresa O’Conner of Roanoke, Va., Shelia Tygrett of Rupert and Joyce Brown of Renick; three stepsisters, Nellie Powell, Connie Powell and Oma Richardson, all of Blue Sulphur Springs; and eight grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Blue Sulphur Church of God with the Rev. William Hoylman officiating. Burial will follow in McElhenney cemetery, Grassy Meadows.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Longanacre Funeral Home, Fort Spring, and one hour before service Friday at the church.

MEADOW BRIDGE — Jeanette Adkins, 84, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Brier Care Center in Fairlea after a long illness.

Jerry Anderson

GLEN ROGERS — Jerry Anderson 66, of Glen Rogers, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006.

He was the son of the late Charles and Edna Grimm Anderson.

Jerry was of Christian faith, served with the U.S. Army and was a member of the UMWA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Gentry Anderson; a brother, Charles Anderson; and a sister, Susie Hall.

Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Coleen Anderson of Mooresville, N.C., and Kelly Anderson of Mooresville; son, Kevin Anderson and wife, Cyndi, and grandson, Dalton Anderson, of Troutman, N.C.; son, Jerry Anderson Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Jean Hopkins of Maine and Janie Anderson of Arlington, Va.; and a brother, Roger Anderson of South Carolina.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Rev. Sammy Francis officiating. Friends may gather with the family one hour before service.

As per Jerry’s wishes, cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.

James Leon ‘Jim’ Boothe

OAK HILL — James Leon “Jim” Boothe, 58, passed away at his home Wednesday, June 28, 2006.

Born March 16, 1948, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Sebert Boothe and Frances Ann Broyles Boothe.

Jim was a graduate of West Virginia Tech in Montgomery, was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, a Mason with the Masonic Lodge, a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and was employed by Verizon Telephone.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, James L. Boothe II and Mallory K. Boothe, both of Oak Hill; his former wife, Brenda K. Allen; and sisters, Mary F. Ellison of Bradley, Donna K. Bavely and husband, John, of Goode, Va., and Sandra L. Thompson and husband, Bob, of Oak Hill.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main St., Oak Hill, with the Rev. Dr. John Sauvage and the Rev. William Slates officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

The family will receive friends noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Military rites will be conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post 3110.

RUPERT — Ira Dale Bryant, 63, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at his home.

Lillian McClure Carper

Lillian McClure Carper, 91, died Wednesday morning, July 28, 2006, at the home of her daughter, Margaret Ann in Berlin, Md., under hospice care. She departed peacefully in her sleep.

Born March 26, 1915, at Grandview, she was the daughter of the late Robert T. “Bob” and Mary Ann “Mollie” Smith McClure. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a charter member of Grandview Christian Church and was a lifelong resident of the Grandview area until the age of 89, when due to family health she moved to Eastern Shores, Md., to be near her daughter, her granddaughter, Judy, and her grandsons, Jon, Duaine and Dave, who were her caregivers in Maryland since 2004.

Lillian had many interests and talents. She with her siblings, Robert “Bill Bob” McClure and Mary McClure Pitzer, conceived the idea for yearly Grandview Community Reunion; their persistence and dedication resulted in the Grandview cemetery perpetual care fund; with community fellowship and support, this effort has flourished. Lillian often stated that she “couldn’t understand people bored with life,” she always kept in close contact with old friends and relatives. With her interest in family history, she conceived the Smith family reunion, where she always held all events at her home yearly. She loved to travel and had visited with distant relatives in Idaho and Oregon. She visited her granddaughter in Athens, Greece, in 1980; she also toured in Canada, California and Florida. At her home she tended to her flowers and lawn, and loved to bird watch, deer hunt and fish. She was a Kmart shopper, and loved to dine at Ryan’s. She was a self-taught artist with her many paintings that are cherished keepsakes by her family and friends.

She belonged to the Beckley Art Group and in her early years she was employed as a seamstress, doing alterations for the Rahalls, the Paynes and the Hud and Vogue dress shop in Beckley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley J. Carper, in 1984; her sisters, Nellie McClure Ellison and Mary McClure Pitzer; her brother, Robert “Bill Bob” McClure; son-in-law, Winfred Maddy; and her grandson, James “Pee” Carper II.

Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Ann Maddy of Berlin, Md.; two sons, Robert L. “Bob” Carper and wife, Mary Katherine, of Arab, Ala., and James K. Carper and wife, Betty, of Grandview; six granddaughters, Judith Cogel of Berlin, Md., Dianne Kristoff of Aaron, Ohio, Debra Bulgrin of San Antonio, Texas, Denita Dairymite of Arab, Ala., Sharon Segalas of Athens, Greece, and Lynda C. Gilkerson of Cross Lanes; three grandsons, Jon Maddy and Duaine Maddy, both of Berlin, Md., and David Carper of Detorville, Tenn.; 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Oscar Schwitzerlette officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview cemetery.

Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.

Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests that donations of sympathy be made to the Grandview cemetery Perpetual Fund, 497 Scott Ridge Road, Beaver, WV 25813.

Clinton Dale Huff

LONG BRANCH — Clinton Dale Huff, 27, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, on state Route 13, Baisden, due to a four-wheeler accident.

Born May 25, 1979, in Beckley, he was the son of Gary Dale and Zola Morgan Huff of Long Branch (Simon).

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Chester and Millie Morgan; and maternal grandfather, Henry Huff.

He was of the Freewill Baptist faith.

He leaves behind his fiancée, Scarlett Buchanan of Long Branch; his parents, Gary Dale and Zola Huff of Long Branch; a son, Ashton Dale Huff, and a stepson, Weston Christian, both of Long Branch; maternal grandmother, Vonnie Huff of Neds Branch (Gilbert); brothers, Dusty Huff and Tanner Huff, both of Long Branch; aunts, Nola (Kenneth) Harless of Bland, Va., Veronda (Jimmy) Harrison of Hurricane, Susan Kenneda of Long Branch and Karen (Michael) Fannin of Olive Hill, Ky.; uncles, Claude (Annette) Morgan of Bluefield, Grady (Brenda) Morgan of Long Branch, James (Juanita) Morgan of Long Branch and Johnny (Sheena) Huff and Larry Huff, both of Neds Branch; and a host of cousins and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Long Branch Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Lonnie Blankenship and Barry Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Morgan Family cemetery, Long Branch.

Ruby Berry

Ruby Berry, 84, of Pemberton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a short illness.

Born July 15, 1922, at Laurel Creek, she was the daughter of the late William Hays Smith and Maudie Atkins Berry Smith.

Ruby was a former glass worker. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Berry; two daughters, Helen Goins and Mary Krueger; an infant daughter, Elizabeth; a grandson, David Goins; nine brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Arnold Leach officiating. Burial will follow in Harrah cemetery, Backus Mountain.

Friends may call one hour before service Saturday.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Inez Vada Blankenship

CYCLONE — Inez Vada Blankenship went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at the age of 94 years, seven months and 20 days, at her residence, surrounded by her family, following a long illness.

Born April 29, 1912, at Cyclone, she was the baby daughter of 10 children of the late D.M. “Clell” Brown and Fannie Bell Bailey Brown.

Inez was the longest living member of Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church where she became a member at the age of 17. She was baptized May 29, 1929, by the Rev. Bruce Bailey. Inez was loved by all who knew her; she will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lee Blankenship; a son, Stacey Lee Blankenship; five sisters, Maggie Harless, Nettie A. Brown, Nellie Jane Toler, Icie Bell Brown and Nancy Stella Toler Garten; four brothers, Dewey A. Brown, Leonard H. Brown, Lacey R. Brown and wife, Jane, and Sherman Wade Brown; two grandsons, Freddie Franklin Daniels and Bobby Lee Brown Jr.; son-in-law, Bobby Lee Brown Sr.; a granddaughter, Lois Ann Daniels; two great-granddaughters, Erin Mikkal Cobb and Christina Hope Blankenship; and a nephew, Nathan Toler, and niece, Bradie Mae Garten, who were raised by Clell and Fannie Brown.

Those left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Shirley Mavis Brown of Cyclone, Geraldine Perry and her husband, Michael, of Cyclone and Netta Janice Daniels and her husband, Frank, of Matheny; a son, Earl Gene Blankenship and his wife, Donna, of Cyclone; brother-in-law, Calvin Blankenship Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Kopperston; sister-in-law, Gladys Brown; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; five nieces, Vivian Justice and her husband, LeRoy, of Charleston, Vernia Browning of Cyclone, Glendene Burns and her husband, Guy, of Florida, Karleen Slaughter and her husband, Harry, of Whinfield and Donna Jean Brown of Huntington; two dear friends, Statt and Marie Hannah; and a host of other dear family and friends.

A celebration of Inez’s life will be 1 p.m. today at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Steven Walls, the Rev. John Toler, the Rev. Merl Walls and dear friend Minnis Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Casketbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

A special “Thank You” to Rosetta Bailey, Man Home Health Care, Hospice care givers and Dr. Bhavsar.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.
