OCEANA — Nelson Smith, 74, departed this life Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, following a long illness.

Audra Velma Waltman

FRIENDSWOOD, Texas — Audra Velma Waltman, 93, of Friendswood, formerly of Beckley, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, in Webster, Texas, following a long illness.

James Richard Weikle

ALDERSON — James Richard Weikle, 90, of Alderson, formerly of Covington, Va., died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006.

Born March 8, 1916, at Ronceverte, he was the son of the late Bernie Coe and Margaret Ann “Maggie” Morgan Weikle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Theldra Humphries and Dorothy Buckland; and five brothers, Lawrence Weikle, Wheeler Weikle, Layman Weikle, Cebert Weikle and Mark Weikle.

Mr. Weikle was a utilities foreman with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Alderson, retiring after 20 years of service. He was also a former employee of Industrial Rayon Corp., Covington. He was a member of The Church Of The Incarnation, Ronceverte, where he was a member of the Vestry and served as senior warden. Mr. Weikle was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Army Air Corps as a pilot on a B-24, flying 40 missions in the European Theater. He served in the United States Air Force Reserves, retiring as a major after 20 years. He was a 45-year member of the Alderson Lions Club, where he had served as a past president and held other offices. He was a member of Tri County Memorial VFW Post 6723, Alderson, and a former member of the Lewisburg Elks Club, where he enjoyed many rounds of golf with good friends.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lettie Brady Weikle; a daughter, Susan Bowyer and her husband, Roger, of Alderson; two grandchildren, Jason Richard Bowyer and his wife, Cara, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Amanda Lea Bowyer of Alderson; a brother, Warren Weikle and his wife, Ruth, of Denver, Colo.; three sisters-in-law, Ileita Weikle of Covington, Mary Weikle of Covington and Betty Weikle of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at The Church Of The Incarnation, Ronceverte, with the Rev. Keith Butler officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. at Cedar Hill cemetery, Covington.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, and one hour before service Saturday at the church.

Family, friends and members of the Alderson Lions Club will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Alderson Lions Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Military funeral honors will be conducted by Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Covington.

HILLSBORO — Lola R. Workman, 84, of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Stamping Creek Tabernacle, Mill Point. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at VanReenen Funeral Home, Marlinton.

Jerry Neal Jessup

LOCHGELLY — Jerry Neal Jessup, 54, formerly of Mount Tabor, died Sunday, June 18, 2006.

Graveside committal service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Calfee cemetery, Mount Tabor.

William G. Kincaid

MASSILLON, Ohio — William G. Kincaid, 71, formerly of Keslers Cross Lanes, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006.

Service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Zoar Baptist Church, Keslers Cross Lanes. Friends may call one hour before service Saturday at the church.

Juanita Shephard Moore

Juanita Shephard Moore, 76, of 114 I St., Beckley, died Monday, June 26, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Born Nov. 27, 1929, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Henry Shephard and Susie Brown Carey Shephard.

Mrs. Moore was a domestic housekeeper. She was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Cassie Moore; special friend, Willie Hornbuckle; nine brothers, Sylvester, Dan, William, Benny, Jacob, Esau, Rufus, Leon Carey and Lloyd Shephard; and three sisters, Viola Johnson, Lucy Cousins and Lula Carey.

Survivors include two children, John W. Moore and Janie L. Moore, both of Beckley; five grandchildren, Larry D. Moore, Melissa A. Moore, John Moore Jr., Tatyanna Moore and Derrick Moore, all of Beckley; four great-grandchildren, Orlando M. Moore, Ashton D. Moore, Rhonda J. Moore, and Nicholas Alexander, all of Beckley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Second Baptist Church, 700 F St., Beckley, with the Rev. Ronald Dyer and the Rev. Rudolph Poindexter officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service Sunday at the church.

Arrangements entrusted to Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.

Beatrice Hill Sumpter

OAK HILL — Beatrice Hill Sumpter, 83, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division.

Agnes Myree Wallace

Agnes Myree Wallace, born Sept. 9, 1920, passed away June 27, 2006.

It is with deep regret and sorrow we note the passing of Agnes Myree Wallace, daughter of Rhoda and John Rowles. Born in Sophia, her sister, Virgie, and brother, Paul, are deceased. She was the wife of Boyd Edward “Buck” Wallace for 36 years.

She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Reedy of Shady Spring, Rita Maxson of Stafford, Va., and Jeffri Swatzyna of Roanoke, Va.; five grandchildren, Sonny Massey, Tracy Hammons, Chris Painter and Luke and Laura Swatzyna; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was a proud resident of Beckley for 65 years and was the owner/manager of several apartment buildings in Beckley and also sold real estate. Myree was a member of United Methodist Temple in Beckley.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at United Methodist Temple, Beckley, with the Rev. Paul Stapleman officiating. Friends may call 11 a.m. until time of service today at the church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, 162 Court St., Charleston, WV 25301.

Imogene Ruth Burns Cruse

KING GEORGE, Va. — Imogene Ruth Burns Cruse, 85, of King George, formerly of Smoot, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at home following a long illness.

Born April 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late John Andrew and Effie Burns.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford William Cruse, on Aug. 9, 1987; two sisters, Inez Baker and Io Perkins; and three brothers, Lacy Burns, Lloyd Burns and Lawrence Burns.

Mrs. Cruse was a homemaker and formerly attended Sam Black United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Addair and her husband, J.C., of King George; a son, Mike Cruse and his wife, Linda, of Buckhannon; a sister, Isola Thompson of Fairlea; three grandchildren, Penny Cesen, Jay Addair and Matthew Cruse; and a great-grandchild, Jared Cesen.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Clintonville, with Pastor Paul Thompson officiating.

Friends may call one hour before service Saturday at the mausoleum chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Sam Black United Methodist Church, c/o Novella Perkins, HC 71, Box 110, Smoot, WV 24977, or Greenbrier Valley Hospice Inc., 540 N. Jefferson St., Lewisburg, WV 24901.

FAIRLEA — Oliver Lewis Keith, 91, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2005.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jack Thomas Lilly

Jack Thomas Lilly, 77, of Sunset Drive, Beckley, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at his home following a long illness.

Born Aug. 23, 1928, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Jesse R. Lilly Sr. and Gustava Davis Lilly.

Mr. Lilly spent his childhood in Beckley on Dixie Avenue and was a 1947 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He graduated from Beckley College in 1950 with a degree in business administration and from Glenville State College in 1952 with a Bachelor’s degree in business education and social studies. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He taught and coached in McDowell County at Coalwood Junior High School. He was a wage and hour investigator with the Department of Labor and retired from the Veterans Administration in 1985, where he had served as chief of voluntary service and public information officer.

He was a member of Beckley Regular Baptist Church, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Senior Friends and Well, I’ll Bee.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by two brothers, James “Jim” Lilly and Jesse R. Lilly Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Ethel Hunter Lilly; a son, John Thomas Lilly of Tallahassee, Fla.; a daughter, Susan Lilly Gerock and her husband, James, of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Ruth Bennett and her husband, Albert, of Beckley; two brothers, Bill Lily and his wife, Carol, of Beckley and Gene Lilly and his wife, Amanda, of Staunton, Va.; and two sisters-in-law, Anne Lilly of Glenville and Myrtle Lou Lilly of Oak Hill.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Jason Naff officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Beckley Regular Baptist Church, 707 Johnstown Road, Beckley, WV 25801 or to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 113 First Ave., Beckley, WV 25801.

Tommy O. McKinney

Tommy O. McKinney, 65, of Beckley, left this life safe in the arms of Jesus following a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005.

Tommy passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Tommy was born Dec. 4, 1939, at MacArthur, the son of the late Raymond McKinney and the late Cora Stump McKinney.

He was a member and Sunday School superintendent at Bethel Freewill Baptist Church.

Tommy loved gardening, lawn care and painting. He worked for Baltimore Office Supply and Crook Produce Co.

Other than his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by a brother, Billy McKinney; and sisters, Margie King and Janice McKinney.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 29 years, Ava Utt McKinney and dog, Queenie; his daughters, Darlene Kay and husband, Mark DiGrazia, and Lorraine Fay and husband, Jeff Dunn; his four grandsons, Bruce Vernon Raeke III, Dominic Carl Defino, Matthew Vincent Defino and Nicholas Dunn, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Rose Raeke, all of Baltimore, Md.; his three brothers, Jimmy McKinney and wife, Ann, of Atlanta, Ga., Ronny McKinney and wife, Sherry, of Crab Orchard and Donny McKinney and wife, Junie, of MacArthur; his two sisters, Jean Worix of Beckley and Vina Stanley and husband, Ross, of Augusta, Ga.; and two special nieces who helped as caregivers, Peggy Bolt and Sue Daniel.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Bethel Freewill Baptist Church with Pastors Bill Calhoun and Don Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be nephews and special friend, Jimmy Linkswiler.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m. today at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia.

The McKinney family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, Dr. David Shimm and all of the family and friends for their compassion during this difficult time.
