Nellie Gay Moye

Nellie Gay Moye of Daniels, formerly of Beaver and Brunswick, Ohio, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Born March 11, 1915, in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Smith and Maggie Reid Price.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Newton Ray Wood; second husband, Owen Paul Moye; daughter, Joan Wood Roberts; son, Edward Wood; and daughter-in-law, Christine Wood; seven infant siblings, and brothers, Dallas Price, Jack Price, Simon Price, and sister, Marcella Ransom; sisters-in-law, Helen Price and Viola Price.

Survivors include daughters, Delores Skipalis and husband, Andrew, of Peely, Pa., Marilyn Cook and husband, Alvin, of Daniels, and Wilma Hale and husband, Nolan, of Cleveland, Ohio; sons, William Wood and wife, Shirlene, of Leavittsburg, Ohio, and Gary Moye and wife, Barbara, of Brunswick, Ohio; son-in-law, Harlan Roberts of Guernsey, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Wood of Eccles; stepson, Lacy Moye of Oak Hill; stepdaughter, Anna Basham of White Oak; brothers, Franklin (Barbara) Price, Luther (Lou) Price, and Jesse Price; sisters-in-law, Juanita Price and Elsie Price.

Grandchildren include: Barry Skipalis and Linda Morgan, Lori Cook and Lisa Cook, (Terry) Birch, Timothy Hale, David Hale, and Charlotte (Elliott) Supers, Tammy McCabe and Denita (James) Fuller, Ronnie and Ricky Moye, Kenny Davis and Karen (Bob) Cathers, Lee (Barbara) Wood, Steven Wood, and Kimberly (Scott) Bryant.

Great-grandchildren include: Kenny and Laura Davis, Bobby Cathers, Holly, Steve, and Jennifer Wood, Chad Wood, Loni Morgan, Hope Bryant, Kyle, Carmen, and Benjamin Birch, Tessa Hale, Dylan Hale, Erica and Chad Supers, Charlie Ward, Benjamin and Jesse Fuller, and Tabitha Moye. A special thanks to her special caregiver, Linda McKinney of Egeria, WV. She also cherished her many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, June 12, 2006, from 12 noon until time of the service at 2 p.m. at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Betty Lusk officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Wilma Ratliff, 77, of Shady Spring, died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at her home.

Jerry C. Spicer

HINTON — Jerry C. Spicer, 73, of 700 Temple St., died 4:50 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2006, in Summers County ARH Hospital following a short illness.

Born July 30, 1932, at Brooks, he was the son of the late Ott Spicer and Anna Mae Harford Spicer Cashion.

Mr. Spicer was a retired clerk for the C&O Railway Co. with 41 years of service. He was a Korean War veteran with the U.S. Army, a member of the Hinton Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. He served as Summers County Sheriff from 1969 until 1972 and was a former member of the Hinton City Council. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James D. Spicer; stepfather, William F. Cashion; and an aunt, Rena Lee Meadows.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Shirley J. Fox Spicer; a daughter, Virginia LeAnn Butler and husband, Mike, of Fayetteville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Andrew, Melissa, Justin, and Jackie Butler, all of Fayetteville, N.C.; a brother, Harold Spicer of Brooks; three sisters-in-law, Louanna Fox of Hinton, Lora Barnes and husband, Don, of Lerona and Teresa Spicer of Jumping Branch; a special nephew, Donald R. Barnes of Morgantown; two special nieces, Kristi Taylor of Jumping Branch and Kelly Albright of Charleston; and three great nephews, Tyler Spicer, Austin and Bryce Taylor, all of Jumping Branch.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Upland cemetery with Elders M.B. Wills and James Boothe officiating. Burial will follow.

Friends may call from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Monday at Pivont Funeral Home, Hinton.

Pallbearers will be Mike, Andrew and Justin Butler, Don Barnes, Donald R. Barnes II, Melvin Plumley, and Phillip Donnelly.

OAK HILL — Kathleen Tabb, 83, died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at SunBridge Pine Lodge Care and Rehabilitation following an extended illness.

Yvetta Dawn Wickham

CALDWELL, Ohio — Yvetta Dawn “Cherokee” Wickham, 48, died June 8, 2006.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at VanReenen Funeral Home, Marlinton. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nellie K. Hines

LEWISBURG — Nellie K. Hines, a longtime resident of Lewisburg, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, one month past her 86th birthday.

She was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Mars Hill, N.C., the daughter of the late Adolphus and Sarah Conely Koon.

Nellie was a former member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Mars Hill, N.C.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Hines; four sisters, Bessie Sutton, Daisy Rice, Pansy Henry, and Pearl Carson; and two brothers, Horace Koon and Howard Koon.

Nellie is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; a special niece, Martha K. Gardenhight of Asheville, N.C.; and her special family, James M. and Julie B. Johnson, and their daughters, Jennie F. Johnson and Rachel L. Johnson.

Mrs. Hines came to West Virginia as a teenager to work for Dr. James A. (Doc Jim) and Maude Weaver McClung of Charleston and Rupert, and became a cherished member of the McClung and Johnson families. She will be missed by those she touched with her warm smile and generous spirit.

Family and friends are invited to gather at McCraw Funeral Home, Lewisburg, at 10 a.m. Tuesday. A service of thanksgiving will begin at 11 a.m. in the McCraw Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Renick officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood cemetery.

Donations of sympathy may be sent to the cemetery Fund, Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1472, Mars Hill, NC 28754.

Allen Jackson Holland

MEADOW BRIDGE — Allen Jackson Holland, of Meadow Bridge, passed away Oct. 22, 2005.

Allen was born Nov. 24, 1938, in Meadow Creek. He was the son of the late John Allen Holland and the late Lura Mae Davis Holland

He was an avid woodworker and a member of the United Transportation Union for 44 1/2 years. He was a ticket agent, clerk, brakeman, conductor, and yardmaster with CSX Railroad. He was a member of the McDonald-Warren Masonic Lodge in Mt. Hope, current President of the Mt. Hope High School Alumni Association, a member of the Hinton Depot Historical Society, a member of the Beckley Moose Lodge; he was a founding member of the Fayette County Rescue Squad, and former member of the Oak Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Mary Vealey Holland; two daughters, Tammy Holland and husband Terry Vealey of Sandbranch and Anna Jessica Stanley and husband Scott of Oak Hill; a grandson, Jacob Allen Stanley of Oak Hill; three stepchildren and five stepgrandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Robert Barley officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

W.R. Welch, Greg Berry, Bud Berry, Larry Richmond, Billy Vaughn, Paul McClung, Jack Pate, and Homer Nicely will be serving as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family from 2 p.m. until time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Rita Mooney, of Coal City, passed away Oct. 23, 2005.

RUPERT — Lawrence A. Myers, 89, of Rupert, died Saturday evening at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor, Va.

Andre’ Jackson Nance

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Andre’ Jackson Nance, 59, of Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Beckley, passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at a Brooklyn, N.Y., hospital, following a short illness.

Samuel Pack

Samuel Pack, 81, of Mabscott, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, in a Beckley area hospital.

Samuel was born April 28, 1924, at Blue Jay. He was the son of the late Arthur Pack and the late Le-Antha Priscilla Cadle Pack.

Samuel was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, and loved the outdoors.

He was a retired coal miner with 37 1/2 years of service and was last employed with Westmoreland Coal Company at Eccles. He was a member of UMWA Local #5770.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a machine gunner and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Other than his parents, Samuel was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Whiting Pack; brothers, Chester, Jack, and Elijah Pack; sisters, Mary Sisk, Myrtle Wyatt, Mildred Lewis, Carmen Young, and Shirley Brier.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Pastor Samuel Pack and wife Vicki of Linwood, N.J., Jim A. Pack of Beckley, and Dean F. Pack and wife Barbara of Fishersville, Va.; three daughters, Shirley P. Knuckles and husband Dick of Princeton, Beverly S. Pack of Mabscott, and Nancy McGhee of Mabscott; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy Pack of Illinois and Lionell Pack of Australia; and two sisters, Nelly Barnabi of Prosperity and Beatrice Hylton of Shady Spring.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Samuel Pack officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Donna Walker, 46, of Shady Spring, passed away Oct. 22, 2005.

Faye Thompson Arcudia

OAK HILL — Faye Thompson Arcudia, 84, of Oak Hill, passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a long illness.

Born April 24, 1921, at Killarney, she was the daughter of the late Grady and Nora Barnes Gunnoe.

Mrs. Arcudia was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Thompson; her second husband, Frank Arcudia; and four brothers.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Arcudia and husband, Tom, of Oak Hill; two sons, Johnny Thompson and wife, Rhoda, of Delaware, Ohio, and Gary Thompson and wife, Cathy, of Glen Daniel; and three sisters, Imogene Acord of Jesse, Susie Salyers of Wise, Va., and Jessie Acord of Bolt.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Rev. Ronnie Acord officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
