Thomas Quinton Jennings

RICH CREEK, Va. — Thomas Quinton Jennings, 86, of Powell Mountain Road, Rich Creek, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frances Marie Lilly

Frances Marie Lilly, 88, of Crab Orchard, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006. She died at home, peacefully in her sleep.

She was born Nov. 23, 1918, at Madams Creek to the late Jack and Ora Mae Mankin Frazier.

She was a homemaker, having lived in Crab Orchard for 61 years. She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband, and after his death she was active in her senior group as long as her health permitted.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O.A. “Abe” Lilly, on Nov. 11, 1992; and her brothers, James Frazier and Charles Frazier.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn June Lilly, who lived with her and was her caregiver; a son, Robert Lee Lilly and his wife, Katherine, of Strasburg, Va.; brothers, Robert Frazier and wife, Henrietta, of Shady Spring and Jack Frazier of Peterstown; a sister, Amma Jean Lilly of Nimitz, and her late husband, Elder David Lilly, who passed away Dec. 6, 2006; and sister-in-law, Norma Frazier of Crab Orchard.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Phillip Farrington officiating. Burial will follow in Lilly-Crews cemetery, Nimitz.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Phillip and Jim Farrington, Larry Green, Dewaun Gilkerson and Gary Lilly.

Ruby Erma Parker

HINTON — Ruby Erma Parker, 71, of 417 Temple St., Hinton, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at Hinton.

Born Feb. 16, 1935, at Athens, she was a daughter of the late Claude Masten and Mazie Sue Weiss Trivett.

She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church of Amelia, Ohio, and was active in the affairs of the church. Ruby had returned to Hinton in the past six months. Ruby was a caring and honest person who was always willing to help others. She will be greatly missed and forever loved by anyone who had ever met her. She will live in our hearts forever. Ruby is now reunited with her husband, Joseph Henry Parker, and together they will look down and watch over us.

She is survived by a son, Danny Neely of Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters, Joann Mann and husband, Ricky, of Liberty, Ky., Janet Fraley and husband, John, of Amelia, Ohio, and Lynn Parker-Meadows and husband, Cliff, of Hinton; four grandchildren, Miracle Jolee Parker, Victoria Elisa Vargas, Johnny Wayne Fraley and Ashley Shae Fraley; three sisters, Juanita Arnold of Chicago, Ill., Nora Keaton and husband, Ray, of Lerona and Berta Mae Hunsecker of Hinton; three brothers, Mark Trivett and wife, Judy, of Pulaski, Va., Jim Trivett and wife, Sharon, and Bill Trivett of Hilldale; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be noon today at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with the Rev. Charles Shrewsbury officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 10 a.m. to noon today at the funeral parlors.

Robert Packai, Petie Wheeler, Ron Thayer, Cliff Meadows, Danny Neely and John Fraley will serve as pallbearers.

Rev. Cecil H. Perry

OAK HILL — The Rev. Cecil H. Perry, 89, of Oak Hill, died peacefully at noon Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at Mary’s Garden at Hidden Valley in Oak Hill.

Born Oct. 3, 1917, at Sun, he was the son of the late Cyrus and Lottie Meadows Perry.

Rev. Perry graduated as valedictorian from Mount Hope High School. He graduated from Appalachian Bible College in Bradley and attended Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi. He was ordained as an American Baptist minister in 1954.

As a Baptist minister he filled pulpits at Dothan Missionary Baptist Church, Red Star Baptist Church and Ames Heights Bible Church. He served as aupply minister in Bradley, Fayetteville and other area Baptist churches. Rev. Perry served as president and treasurer of the Raleigh-Fayette Baptist Ministerial Association. He was particularly interested in the spiritual development of youth.

Rev. Perry was a retired coal miner and served as treasurer of Local 6046, District 29, UMWA. He and his wife, Virginia, both were actors in the movie “Matewan,” a film about the establishment of the UMWA in West Virginia.

He was a longtime friend of U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd, who invited him to open the United States Senate with prayer on his 85th birthday, Oct. 3, 2002. He opened the West Virginia Legislature with prayer on various occasions.

He was a Kentucky Colonel, an honorary member of the New River Gorge Square Dancers, a former member of the Fayette Baptist Association and was recently named a charter member of the Mount Hope High School Alumni Association for his academic achievements and dedication to his family and community.

His wife of 57 years, Virginia Bryant Perry; a son, Cecil Henry Perry; and siblings, Orville, Charles, Verner, Eva and Wanda, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, David Perry and wife, Nancy R., and a daughter, Nancy Lee James and husband, Tom, all of Oak Hill; a sister, Cylene Fleshman of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren, Sherri Shumate of Mount Hope, Scott Johnson of Beckley, Angie Grice of Troy, Ala., and Mindy Harris of Oak Hill; and 11 great-grandchildren, Johnna Lee Shumate and Perry Lee Shumate, both of Mount Hope, Zachary Scott Johnson and Alexis Ann Johnson, both of Beckley, John Stephen Grice, Adam Micah Grice, Jordan Leah Grice and Eli Caleb Grice, all of Troy, and Joel Tanner Harris, Carsyn Olivia Harris and Troy David Harris, all of Oak Hill.

Visitation will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill.

Service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at Calvary Baptist Church, East Main Street, Oak Hill, with the Rev. David Richardson and the Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Pallbearers will be members of the Plateau Ministerial Association.

Opal Virginia Sexton

OAK HILL — Opal Virginia Sexton, 83, of Oak Hill, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006.

Born Nov. 6, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Myrtle Hall Berry.

Opal worked as a school secretary for the Board of Education.

In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Watson B. Sexton; sister, Laurestine Mignor; brother, William Berry; and granddaughter, Syrena Dawn Sexton.

Those left to cherish her memory include sons, Booty Sexton and wife, Sandra, of Covington, Va., and Ronald Sexton and wife, Jane, of Oak Hill; daughter, Carol Jean Pomeroy and husband, Darrell, of Meadow Bridge; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Daniel Legg officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Harry C. Stewart

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Harry C. Stewart, 79, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, after many long illnesses.

Born July 17, 1927, in Welch, he was the son of Kelly C. and Margaret Wanda Cook Stewart.

Mr. Stewart was a Baptist and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, S. Kelly Stewart and Aaron H. “Bussie” Stewart; and a sister, Ileana Mae Stewart Collins.

Survivors include his lovely wife of 56 years, Mary Louiris Meador Stewart; six children of whom he was very proud, C. Kelly Stewart and his wife, Julie, of Dacula, Ga., Steven Mark Stewart and wife, Arlene, of Boiling Spring Lakes, N.C., Harry Timothy Stewart of Jacksonville, Jack Alan Stewart and wife, Pam, of Chapin, S.C., and Glenn Franklin Stewart and wife, Rhonda, serving the Lord in Southeast Asia; a daughter, Katherine Marie Stewart Robbs and husband, Kevin, of Jacksonville; and 10 terrific grandchildren. He thought of his daughters-in-law as his own; the Lord has been good to us.

Mr. Stewart was a member of the Rollaway Square Dance Club of Jacksonville and Crystal Lake Squares of Wauchula, Fla.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Jim Franklin officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Randall Lamar ‘Randy’ Thomas

SIMON — Randall Lamar “Randy” Thomas, 44, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Long Branch Freewill Baptist Church. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Mary Edith Jarrell

Mary Edith Jarrell, 83, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital. She was the daughter of the late James Franklin and Frances (Burgess) Treadway. She was born at Artie on March 5, 1922.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edwin Jarrell; a brother, Robert Lee Treadway; and two sisters, Agnes and Clara.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, James Franklin Treadway Jr. and wife, Bell, of Artie; her daughter, Lois Anita and husband, Joe Evans, of Beckley; her sons, Robert Paul Jarrell and wife, Martha, of Artie and David Edwin Jarrell and wife, Jan, of Drayton Plains, Mich.; five grandchildren, Krista Hundley and husband, Jeffrey, of Beaver, Keith Treadway and wife, Taron, of Marion, N.C., Christopher Jarrell and wife, Lisa, of Drayton Plains, Robert Jarrell Jr. and wife, Samantha, of Glen Morgan and Jennifer Leeann Honaker and her husband, Roger, of Glen Daniel; five great-grandsons, Paul and Andy Hundley, Jack and Noah Jarrell and Brandon Treadway; a special lifelong friend, Beulah Lasley; a special nephew, Charles Treadway and wife, Barbara; and many relatives and friends.

She was a member of White Oak Advent Christian Church and served as superintendent.

Friends and relatives may call 6 to 10 p.m. today at Advent Church, Artie, and service will be 11 a.m. Sunday at the church. The Rev. Roy Runion and Joe Barnette will officiate.

Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends and relatives will serve as pallbearers.

Albert Harold Lown

SCARBRO — Albert Harold Lown, 62, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Born Dec. 26, 1942, in Austin, Texas, he was the son of the late Jack Lown and Ida Katz Lown.

Albert came from a very fine Jewish family and was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carole Ann Lown.

Albert and Carole had no children, but had plenty of other family and extended family. Albert was a retired officer for the Internal Revenue Service.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Schwartz of McAllen, Texas; an aunt, Elenor Nebergel of California; an aunt and uncle, Maresa and David Rosenberg of California; a cousin, Herbert and Camille Lown of Houston, Texas; and extended family with whom he made his home, Jeanette Lawson, Kathy Lawson, Joshua Winebrenner and Annette Lewis, all of Scarbro.

Graveside rites will be 11:30 a.m. Sunday at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with Rabbi Helen Bar-Yaacov officiating. Those attending the service are asked to meet at High Lawn Funeral Home, Oak Hill, by 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
