CYCLONE — John Holt Cook, 72, departed this life Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Logan Regional Medical Center.

Mishie Cox Flanagan

CROWN POINT, Ind. — Mishie Cox Flanagan (nee Cochran), age 91, of Crown Point, Ind., formerly of Rupert, passed away Friday, June 22, 2007, at Colonial Nursing Home in Crown Point, Ind.

Mrs. Flanagan was a former member of the Clear Creek Baptist Church in Rupert.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jennings Cox; and her second husband, Ray Flanagan.

Survivors include five children, Shirlene Burke and husband, Gerald, of Crown Point, Ind., Martha Lee Gruber and husband, Jerry, of Mansfield, Ohio, William Flanagan and wife, Barbara, of West Virginia, Fedora Celami of Maryland, and Jo Rae Hvezdos of Florida; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and two dear nieces, Carol Russell and Helen Huddelston.

Geisen Funeral Home of Crown Point, Ind., is in charge of arrangements. For information please call 219-663-2500.

A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Memorial Mausoleum in Clintonville, with Rev. Houston Boothe officiating.

Memorials may be sent to Harbor Light Hospice, 500 81st Ave., Merrillville, IN 46410.

Edith E. Case George

Edith E. Case George, 84, of Greystone in Beaver, formerly of Oak Hill, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley.

Born Nov. 18, 1922, at Plainfield, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lillian Gempler Case.

Edith was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill where she served in many positions including Elder.

For many years, Mrs. George and her husband were the owners of The General Food Store in Oak Hill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie George Jr., on March 28, 1993, and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one son, Danny W. George of Renick; one daughter, Sally G. Martin of Flat Top; one sister, Mabel Weston of Warren, N.J.; two grandchildren, Melissa Dunn and Erin G. Martin; and one great-grandson, Lucas “Luke” Dunn.

Services will be Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill with Rev. James Musgrave officiating. Entombment will be at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Oak Hill.

Visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, from noon to 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 250 Central Ave., Oak Hill, WV 25901.

Donald F. Lane

Donald F. Lane, 63, of Beech Run, Hinton, died Monday morning, June 25, 2007, at Summers County ARH following a short illness.

Frances Walthall Piotrowski

BROOKNEAL, Va. — Frances Clark Walthall Piotrowski, 94, of Cook Avenue, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 24, 2007, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Francis Louis Piotrowski.

Mrs. Piotrowski was born in Campbell County, Sept. 28, 1912, daughter of the late Willie Newton Walthall and Annie Woodall Walthall. Her family moved to West Virginia in 1921 where she married and raised her children. She returned to Campbell County in 1982. She was a lifelong member of Sharon United Methodist Church, Naruna.

She was the beloved mother of three sons, William L. Piotrowski and wife Carolyn of Annandale, Va., Walter L. Piotrowski of Alexandria, Va., and Stephen N. Piotrowski and wife Karen of Oak Hill; four daughters, Anna F. Wheelock of Lynchburg, Va., Sara P. Stone of Oak Hill, Va., Ferna P. Williams and husband John of Gladys, Va., and Patricia P. Bonner of Dalton, Ga.; 16 grandchildren, Gregory M. Wheelock, Stephen L. Wheelock and wife, Flo, Jeannine W. Bringman and husband Bob, Shelly S. Hibbeler and husband Richard, Suzette S. Busa and husband Paul, Sheila S. Sheats and husband Joseph, Thomas R. Stone, Michael R. Stone, John A. Williams Jr. and wife Joyce, Donna W. Nash and husband Gray, Gina W. Scott, Matthew F. Piotrowski, Lynn Beverage and husband Nick, Elizabeth M. Cooper and husband Justin, Brian S. Armstrong, Lori A. Walley; 31 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Thomas L. Walthall and wife, Mildred, of Prospect, Va.; two sisters, Mary Walthall Smith of Lynchburg, Margaret Walthall Carwile of Gladys.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Allen Walthall and Robert Athey Walthall; two sisters, Pattie Walthall Call and Elsie Walthall Hatcher.

She was very faithful to her church and enjoyed her family and many friends. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will truly be missed.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at Sharon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Billy Swan with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal, and at the residence, 303 Cook Ave., Brookneal, other times.

Memorials may be made to Sharon United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

Dorothy Lee Schrader

Dorothy Lee Schrader, 57, of Mount Hope passed away Sunday, June 24, 2007. Born Oct. 5, 1947, she is the daughter of the late Willie and Ada McIe.

Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of the Beckley Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by Ruby Schrader.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Larry Schrader of Mount Hope; daughter Tonya Schrader of Mount Hope; two brothers and seven sisters.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Speaker Brother Steven Baird officiating.

Friends may gather with the family from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

James J. Bina

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — James J. Bina, 84, passed away at 11:09 p.m. Tuesday June 26, 2007 at Adams Lane Care Center.

James was born in Cleveland on Jan. 14, 1923, to the late Fred and Elizabeth (Carroll) Bina.

James had lived in Mentor, Austinburg, Zanesville and Somerset, Ohio, and Beckley. He was employed by Electric Products Co. in Cleveland for 35 years. He served our country and protected our freedom by serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Philippines during World War II. James loved fishing for Bass and Perch, he had a passion for his garden and enjoyed making clocks for his family and friends. He faithfully attended St. Frances DeSales Catholic Church in Beckley.

He is survived by a son, Paul V. (Donna) Bina of Beckley; a daughter, Beth A. (Bob) Burton of Zanesville; brothers Fred and John (Marcella) Bina, and a sister Donna (Mike) Franchino, all of the Cleveland area. He was Grandpa Bina to 10 grandchildren, Victoria Racine, Joseph Bina, Jeffrey Bina, Karen Mackenzie, James Mackenzie, Tommy Mackenzie, Kathryn Ann Mackinzie, Brooke Carpenter, Margo Burton and Adrienne Burton; 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Elizabeth Bina, who passed away on March 9, 1992; a daughter, Joan Mackenzie; grandsons, Douglas K. and Michael Paul Mackenzie; and brothers, Robert and Edward Bina.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday July 7, at St. Thomas Activity Center 139 N. 5th St. Zanesville, with Father Jordan McConway officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Muskingum Lions Club, C/O George Figgins, 2131 Dunzweiler Drive, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.

OCEANA — Georgia Green Booth, 87 years, two months, departed this life Saturday, June 23, 2007.

In keeping with Mrs. Booth’s wishes, her body was cremated. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel.

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Marie Canterbury, 96, formerly of Beckley, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at a Port Charlotte care center following a long illness.

Dorothy McKinney Caton

COLUMBIA, Md. — Dorothy McKinney Caton, 88, formerly of Welch, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, in Columbia following a short illness.

Clarence F. Drennen

HINES — Clarence F. Drennen, 84, died Monday evening, June 26, 2007, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a sudden illness.

Born Aug. 22, 1922, in Iron Gate, Va., he was a son of the late Walter Samuel and Daisy Elberta Tucker Drennen.

He was a member of Hines Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, song leader and honorary deacon, and was a former Sunday school superintendent, teacher and prayer meeting leader. Clarence was also a U.S. Army veteran during World War II, and a life member of John Page VFW Post No. 4484 of Rainelle.

He was a former 4-H leader, former BYF leader and a former Boy Scout leader. Clarence was a retired school bus driver, a former coal miner and a former proprietor of Hines Electric Store.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Drennen.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Florence E. Burdette Drennen; a son, Manuel F. Drennen and wife, Twila, of Hines; two sisters, Marie Ray and husband, Robert, of Rupert and Jeressa Jackson and husband, the Rev. Carl Jackson, of Hines; a sister-in-law, Thelma Drennen of Hines; a brother, Cecil Drennen and wife, Graceline, of Hines; two grandchildren, Mark F. and wife, Shelby Drennen, and Michelle L. Drennen and companion, Michael Bennett; and seven great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at Hines Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kermit Hunter Jr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. John Groves. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle.
